Cadillac Sts problems

The Cadillac STS (Seville Touring Sedan) is a mid-sized luxury 4-door sedan manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2004 to 2011 for the 2005 to 2011 model years. A version of the STS was marketed in China as the SLS through 2013.
It was equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with performance algorithm shifting and driver shift control.
Origins
The STS was the successor to the Cadillac Seville, which beginning in 1987 was available as an upscale performance-oriented STS (for Seville Touring Sedan) version.
While smaller than the full-size DTS, the more expensive STS was the flagship sedan of the Cadillac brand.

Common Cadillac Sts problems
The Cadillac STS, a luxury sedan produced from 2005 to 2011, has several common problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the most frequent issues and their details:
- Camshaft Actuator Solenoid Valve Failure: This problem can cause a check engine light and drivability issues due to improper timing of the cams. The camshaft actuator solenoid valves control the flow of oil pressure to the VVT actuators. To prevent this issue, maintain the oil at the proper level and change the oil regularly.
- MAP Sensor Failure: The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor measures the pressure inside the intake. A faulty MAP sensor can cause drivability issues and a check engine light with a MAP sensor code. To fix this issue, locate the MAP sensor, disconnect the electric connector, remove the bolt, and replace the sensor.
- Passenger Presence Sensor Failure: This problem can cause the air bag light to be on with a code for the passenger presence system. The passenger presence sensor is located in the passenger seat and senses if there is a passenger on the seat for the air bag system. To fix this issue, replace the sensor.
- Steering Wheel Position Sensor Failure: This problem can cause the service stability light to be on on the dash and the ABS light to be on. The steering wheel position sensor is located at the base of the steering column and senses the steering wheel's position. To fix this issue, replace the steering wheel position sensor by following specific steps, including disabling the air bag system, removing the lower dash panels, removing the intermediate shaft, and sliding the sensor out.
These are some of the most common problems reported by Cadillac STS owners. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent some of these issues.

Timing chain: The timing chain on GM 3.6L engines is prone to breaking or stretching, leading to engine misfires, reduced performance, and potential engine damage. 2. Water pump: The water pump on GM 3.6L engines is known to leak or fail, causing the engine to overheat and potentially damaging other engine components.

- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-25
- Date Complaint: 2021-12-13
- VIN: 1G6DK67V180
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The Cadillac Company sent me a letter several years ago informing me of a premature timing chain wear and the illumination of the Service Engine light. They knew about this defective engine problem but they did not recall the vehicle. Instead they extended the engine warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles. I have only 90,000 miles on my vehicle but I've owned it for over 10 years and now the check engine light is illuminated. The Cadillac dealer refuses to extend the warranty. This is a safety issue because if the engine were to fail the driver would also lose power steering and power brakes putting the safety of the vehicle occupants and others at risk. I believe that this vehicle and other GM vehicles with the 3.6 liter engine should be recalled and repaired at no cost to the vehicle owner.

THE END RESULT WAS THAT THEY SAID IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I WOULD JUST LIKE YOU TO INVESTIGATE TO SEE IF THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT CADILLAC SHOULD ADDRESS. *JS

Finally found my dream car, a V8 STS, after a year of searching online. It's the perfect black color, has low mileage (50k), and the previous owner took great care of it. I got it for a great price too, only $12k! I think the reason these amazing performance cars are so affordable is because people tend to overlook American cars. Thank you to all the BMW owners out there for keeping the prices low. The Northstar engine in my new beauty sounds absolutely amazing, so powerful and deep. I promise to be a Cadillac owner for life (if I can afford it). My advice to you, dear reader, is to wait for the V8. It's definitely worth it! Maybe I'll even put that on a bumper sticker.

Congratulations on your new purchase! It's great to hear that you are enjoying your V8 style STS. Although the adaptive speed control was not available on the V6, it sounds like you made a good decision in choosing the V8. It's understandable that the gas mileage hasn't been great so far, but hopefully, it will improve as you put more miles on the car. It's wonderful to hear that you believe the 2008 STS is a big improvement over the 2005, both in terms of looks and ride. It sounds like you made a great choice in purchasing the 2008 STS.

I absolutely adore my STS! I have owned it for 27 months now and my love for it only grows stronger with each passing day. As a GM owned CPO with only 8200 miles, it was an absolute steal. This is my third Cadillac and I must say, I do not miss the V8s of my previous cars at all. The V6DI is an amazing engine, providing both power and great fuel mileage. The car is incredibly comfortable on long trips and handles like a dream. Although there were a few minor issues early on, the dealer promptly fixed them. Now, I only take it in for an annual oil change and inspection. Without a doubt, this is the best car I have ever owned in my 67 years!

Your car is excellent for driving, although it may have a harder ride compared to a DeVille.

Great car! I absolutely love driving this car, especially with its snappy 6 cylinder and all-wheel drive that make it my go-to winter car. The only downside is that it's not quite as comfortable as my Chrysler 300c, so long drives can become a bit of a challenge.

I really liked the look and smooth ride of my STS when I bought it with 7K miles as a certified pre-owned car with an extended warranty. However, I did experience some issues with the fuel pump at 18k miles and the water pump at 33K miles, and then some other problems each year, such as the cat converter, intake position sensors, vent solenoid, motor mounts, and control arms. Unfortunately, the transmission also started clunking, especially when driving slow or going from reverse to drive. Despite always garaging and maintaining the car, I had to stop the expenses at 85,000 miles when the transmission/drive train was about to drop out. The Cadillac dealer quoted me $3,500 for a new drive train and warned of possible other issues. This was my third Cadillac, and my beautiful Eldorado also had mechanical troubles. It's a shame because they are such beautiful cars. I wonder if it's the aluminum North Star engine? Since my experience, I have heard of others having numerous problems with this system.

My 2006 Cadillac STS V8 has been nothing but trouble since delivery. The dealership had to replace the entire radio, causing a delay in delivery. After driving 1,000 miles, a loud noise like crunching tin cans developed in the front-end. Despite several attempts by the dealership to fix it, the issue persists. While waiting for a part to remedy the problem, a coil in the engine went out, causing it to operate on less than all 8 cylinders. Despite communicating with Cadillac customer relations, I have received no relief. It is important for potential buyers to be aware of these issues.

The car is fun to drive and has great potential, but unfortunately, I have had some issues with it. I have had to take my brand new STS in for service twice in the last three months for different problems. I feel that the service I received from GM and Cadillac did not meet my expectations for a high-end product. I believe that other high-end imports are more reliable and offer better customer service. Despite my negative experience, I appreciate the potential of the car and will continue to explore other options in the market.

I was hoping for a fun and practical car when I purchased the STS 4, all wheel drive. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with the car and have had to make several trips to the dealer. Despite this, the issues have not been fully resolved yet. I have had some ongoing problems with the all wheel drive, leaks, seals, and excessive wind noise. The acceleration/transmission and HVAC system have also been problematic. Additionally, the car's electronics can be quite complex to navigate. The interior is a bit small and there is limited back seat space. Overall, I am not completely satisfied with my purchase.
