FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-04
  • VIN: 2G1WX15K329
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: My car has the engine 3.1 L automatic. On January 4, I was going to go run errands so I went out to my car and cranked it to start the engine but instead, I heard a loud explosion, causing the front tires of the car to go up in the air and then land back on the ground. Smoke started coming out from the hood and a fire almost got started. I was scared to half to death causing me to almost have a heart attack. Morning inspection, I found that the intake manifold had exploded on the car and pieces of it were all over the engine. I feel that the pressure regulator may have been the culprit, but the plastic upper intake just literally blew up. Nobody was injured neighbors came out to see what the explosion had been, the window on my windshield cracked and major damage has been done to the Plenum. I have pictures but I’ve been unable to upload them but they are available. If you need them I went to Mission Chevrolet where I purchased the car but was referred to contact you in general. no recalls sent over this issue, but have I been driving when the explosion occurred it may have caused fatalities to myself, and perhaps other drivers on the freeway.

I WAS GOING ABOUT 45 MPH BY THE GRACE OF GOD I WAS ABLE TO BLAST THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AND MISS EVERYONE, EVERYTHING!. RATTLED I GUESS I SHUT THE CAR OFF WHEN I REGAINED MY COMPOSER I STARTED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I DID NOT WANT TO BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED! I THOUGHT I DID SOMETHING WRONG MAYBE HAD MY FOOT UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL OR SOMETHING. HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR SINCE 2 WEEKS AGO WAS STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT, WOULD NOT START. HAD THE CAR TOWED HOME, TRIED TO START IT AND STARTED RIGHT UP. NOW SERVICE TRACK LIGHT IS ON AND ANTI LOCK BRAKES IS ON AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON SOMETIME AND THE CRUISE LIGHT IS ON. YESTERDAY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND SAME THING NO BRAKES, YOU COULD NOT PUSH THE PEDAL DOWN IT IS AS IF THERE IS SOMETHING UNDER THE PEDAL IT'S THAT SOLID. MY CONCERN FOR MY OWN SAFETY AS WELL AS OTHER MONTE CARLO OWNERS IS MOST IMPORTANT. IF EITHER TIME WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON A EXPRESSWAY WHERE WE COULD NOT TURN TO A SHOULDER THIS WOULD BE CATASTROPHIC . CALLED THE SERVICE MANAGER WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED, ALSO HARBOR CHEVY IN MICHIGAN CITY, IN AND GATES CHEVY IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, ALL SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. GOT ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND SIMILAR POSTS IN CAR COMPLAINTS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM, SEEMS ODD GM DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. FOR EVERY ONES OWN SAFETY THIS SHOULD BE A REDUNDANT SYSTEM IN OLDER CARS YOU WOULD NOT LOSE ALL BRAKES. COULD UNDERSTAND IF YOU LOST ANTI LOCK PART BUT STILL COULD STOP. THIS HAS TO BE A OVERLOOKED FLAW IN DESIGN AND GM SHOULD BE MADE TO CORRECT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. IF SOMEONES BEEN KILLED BY THIS HOW COULD THEY TELL YOU THAT HE LOST HIS BRAKES? THANK YOU MIKE

2002 Chevrolet Monte carlo recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 7 recalls for different components of the 2002 Chevrolet Monte carlo.

2015-10-26
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina and Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1997-2004 Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix, 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala, and 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. The affected vehicles were previously repaired under recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, and 15V-201 to address the possibility that engine oil may drip onto the hot exhaust manifold.
  • Consequence: Engine oil that drips onto the hot surface of the exhaust manifold may result in a fire.
  • Remedy: The remedy applied under recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, and 15V-201 did not adequately remove the safety risk. Under the improved remedy, dealers will replace the engine’s front valve cover and gasket. Vehicles that are covered by recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, or 15V-201 that have not yet received the original remedy will instead receive the improved remedy under the original recall number. The recall began on February 19, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Oldsmobile customer service at 1-800-442-6537 and Pontiac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15757. Note: Until the improved remedy has been applied, owners are advised to park their vehicle outside since the fire risk exists even when the vehicle is unattended.
2014-07-03
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
  • Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 5,877,718 model year 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2005 Malibu Classic, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
  • Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 9, 2014. GM's number for this recall is 14350.

Negative 2002 Chevrolet Monte carlo car reviews

I bought a Monte Carlo when GM offered 0% financing. What a deal! So far, the car has been good, although not exceptional. My only complaint is that it needs more power (I should have gotten the SS). The interior is roomy and practical, and I got a fair amount of equipment, including On-Star, which I think is great. While I don't think this is the best car out there, it's a great choice for the money, especially since it's an American car.

I am extremely disappointed with this car. As a long-time buyer of North American cars, I had high expectations, but unfortunately, this car did not meet them. The interior console peeled, and I had to argue with the dealership to get it replaced. Additionally, the paint is peeling in large chunks in the wheel wells, which I have heard is a common issue, and it is taking the side body paint with it. The car is also covered in paint pops, which are clearly a result of coating failure, despite the dealer's claims. As a former paint chemist, I can confidently say that GM should be ashamed of putting such poor quality on the road. The fact that they have done nothing about it speaks volumes about their commitment to their customers. Going forward, I can no longer trust this car manufacturer.

I have only had this car for 5 weeks, and unfortunately, I have experienced several issues. Firstly, there was a jerky transmission due to a computer problem. Secondly, the trunk wouldn't close properly. Thirdly, the car suddenly stopped running at 40 m.p.h. Lastly, there were several interior rattles. It is disappointing that this car is built with cheap and flimsy materials. Additionally, the sound system is not up to par. In my opinion, Ford provides better quality materials and their fit and finish is superior to GM. Quality is job 1.

I had a bad experience with this vehicle on wet roads, unfortunately. I hydroplaned and wrecked my car while driving at 45mph. I think the seats could benefit from more padding and the back seats could use more leg room. The car's mileage is not great, only 21mpg. Although the exterior looks good, there is room for improvement. On the bright side, the car is very sturdy and I only sustained a minor cut on my finger after the accident. I have had some difficulty with the car's reliability on wet roads since I purchased it, which is a shame because I used to enjoy driving it. I previously owned a 2001 SS and never had this issue.

  1. Jameson Pollich 2025-02-16

I am confident in my Monte SS, despite the challenges I have faced with wiring, flickering lights, paint issues, catalytic converter problems, and a rotted oil pan. Although GM has not offered any assistance, I remain steadfast in my love for this car.

  2. Selmer Kris 2025-02-09

Hey there! I'm so excited to share that I finally have a car that spins its wheels when I punch the pedal!

  3. Jessy Gusikowski 2025-02-04

This car is a joy to drive, despite some initial technical issues that were promptly resolved under warranty. The fuel mileage is impressive, with 26 city and 35 highway. Although the resale value was disappointing, I am confident in the car's overall quality and reliability. The windshield has been fogging up recently, but I have consulted with two certified mechanics who have not yet identified the cause.

I absolutely love my '02 Monte Carlo SS! It was already two years old when I bought it, but it has never let me down, not even once. As an old school hot rodder, I need a car that's both comfortable and reliable, and this one ticks all the boxes. The back seat is especially great - it lays down and has made for some amazing sleeping arrangements during my travels all over the east coast. I even used it as a spare room before heading to the Atlanta Motor Speedway! I have to say, this is the most comfortable car I've ever owned. And don't even get me started on the acceleration - it's surprisingly quick for its engine size. Passing other cars is a breeze! I wouldn't mind finding another one with low mileage. After fourteen years, it's still going strong!

  5. Hilton Stokes 2025-01-15

A very good balance of performance and luxury. Fortunately, my catalytic converter clogged, shot-up my EGR pipe and melted my intake manifold, but it was completely covered by the warranty. Otherwise, it is a very reliable car. Additionally, the aftermarket is producing some very affordable and reliable go-fast upgrades for this 3800 engine!
