Common 2018 Audi Rs5 problems

The Audi RS5, introduced in 2018, is a high-performance luxury vehicle known for its impressive speed and handling capabilities. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its common problems and issues.

One of the most commonly reported problems with the Audi RS5 is related to its electrical system, specifically the infotainment system. The 2018 Audi RS5, in particular, has had issues with its MMI (Multi-Media Interface) system, including the MMI screen going blank or freezing, the system failing to power on or off, and difficulties recognizing CDs or DVDs.

Another common issue with the Audi RS5 is related to its Multitronic gearbox. The earliest models, particularly those produced between 2007 and 2016, have had more reported instances of Multitronic gearbox problems. These include transmission failure, power loss or immobility, shuddering, jerking, and unusual noises during acceleration or cruising. Overheating is another problem, particularly during demanding driving conditions or towing heavy loads.

The Audi RS5 has also had issues with its airbags, which can impact all models. The water pump is crucial in circulating coolant throughout the engine to maintain optimal temperature. When the water pump fails, circulation is disrupted, resulting in the engine overheating and the potential for severe damage to the vehicle.

Carbon build-up issues have also been reported in Audi RS5 vehicles. Excessive carbon build-up can result in engine misfires, leading to poor performance and decreased fuel efficiency. If carbon deposits build up within the engine, they can disrupt the combustion process, causing misfires and performance issues with the vehicle.

In addition to these common problems, some owners of 2018/19 S5 models have reported issues with the windows, engine thermostat, passenger airbag failure light, and stop/start system failure.

Despite these common problems, the Audi RS5 is still a highly desirable vehicle for those seeking a high-performance luxury vehicle. However, it is essential to be aware of these potential issues and consider the costs of maintenance and repairs when purchasing a new or used Audi RS5.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-12-05
  • VIN: WUAPWAF57JA
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Autonomous Emergency Services Notification Feature: Audi has informed its owners of vehicles made from 2018 and earlier that a safety feature provided as standard equipment in the vehicle will no longer be available because of the inevitable shut down of 3G wireless systems across North America. However, features that are not free (which require a subscription) are supported by a 4G radio in the car and will not be impacted. Owners were NEVER notified that two different wireless systems were used in the car, a 20 year old technology for safety related features, and a 4GLTE module for expensive, subscription based telematics which have nothing to do with safety. I purchased and selected my vehicle based on these exact safety systems, especially as I'm a disabled driver. I'm not even out of warranty yet and TWO features have now been or will about to be sunset, without a fix. I was also never notified that this was going to occur, I found out by accident and most dealers aren't even yet aware. Audi has stated they are working with an outside company to bandaid the issue, however, this bandaid was not integrated with the car and basically won't solve the problem that it isn't the car I purchased. In the posted letters other owners received, there is ZERO indication of when this might be available, no evidence or indication it will be approved by the DOT or NHTSA because it's a bandaid. I have already contacted Audi for resolution, without result. I have requested updates, without result. The process is supposed to take 20 business days. It has now been over 40 business days. Regardless of the price of the vehicle, there was NEVER any indication by the dealer or in the manual that would lead customers to believe two different technologies were in use in the car.... 4G is plastered everywhere, however, 3G is stated nowhere. In hindsight, this is not only a dangerous situation for many drivers, but also a fraudulent one. Need help.

Positive 2018 Audi Rs5 car reviews

I suggest communicating online with the dealership before going in, and even if you are knowledgeable about the car, it's important to have a fixed price in mind before arriving. Additionally, make sure to carefully read and understand the fine print of any vehicle extended car care plans before signing any paperwork. It can be helpful to read forums from previous or current owners to gain insight into the car's reliability. Remember, it's easy to get swayed, so if you're just going to look, make sure that's all you do before leaving.
