Common 2013 Mini Cooper countryman problems
The 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include transmission problems, shattering or exploding sunroof, engine overheating, and internal oil leaks.
Transmission problems are prevalent in various Countryman models, with symptoms such as abnormal noises, delayed shifting, excessive vibrations, and acceleration jumps. Experts recommend regular transmission checks to mitigate these issues.
The 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman has also faced concerns regarding the sunroof, where the sunroof has been reported to shatter following an exploding sound. This issue can be resolved by replacing the sunroof with shatterproof glass.
Engine overheating is another problem reported in the 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman. When the engine overheats, drivers may experience symptoms like illuminated check engine lights, coolant leakage, blown head gaskets, and other related issues. The overheating issue is primarily caused by faulty core plugs and coolant leaks.
Internal oil leaks are another noteworthy problem in the 2012 Countryman. Unlike common oil leaks, this issue is hard to detect outside the car, as the internal oil leak drips through the wiring sheath and may reach the electronic control unit (ECU). This may result in a short circuit and severe damage.
In summary, the 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman has several common problems, primarily related to transmission issues, sunroof shattering, engine overheating, and internal oil leaks. Regular checks and maintenance can help mitigate these issues, but it is essential to be aware of these problems when considering purchasing this vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-25
- VIN: WMWZC3C58DW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE
- Summary: The problem started with fog lights blinking on and off while the car was off. As I entered the vehicle I noticed a pool of water on the floor bed. The car has a sunroof which was closed at the time, as well as all of the windows - water came in from somewhere else. I proceeded to turn on the car to see what was happening and the car did not turn on. I thought maybe the battery is dead - tried to give it a boost and it did not work. I replaced the battery - it turned on the car but most lighting areas and power windows do not work. The two front windows are not working properly, they do not go up or down, only the back windows. I do not have control of the headlights - it just stays on one setting. The directional lights do not work. The console lights do not work. This puts myself and others at risk because I can’t aware other drivers when I making a turn or changing lanes. I can’t see the console panel at night, unaware of gas, speed, or radio functions. The car has been driven locally only during the day to avoid accidents and when I arrive at my destination - I notice smoke coming out of the hood. There is an active recall (23V-337) on the R55 & R56 models but not R60 models - which is my car. The exact description of defect (see below) is what is happening to my car and I’d like to have this model added to the recall. It is very dangerous to keep driving this car which I need for daily use. “This safety recall involves the Footwell Control Module (FRM), an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) which controls various lighting and power window functions, and is installed near the bottom of the driver's side A-pillar behind an interior trim panel. Due to several contributing factors (environmental, certain US States' wintertime road treatment, vehicle design configuration and age), over time, the FRM could become susceptible to corrosion. For vehicles equipped with a sunroof, after a multi-year period involving large temperature changes, multiple freeze/thaw cycles..”

WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-16
- VIN: WMWSV3C58DT
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: I wrote to you before. My complaint number is/was:11559619. I never received a response from you. I explained in my previous complaint that I purchased a used car from Carvana in August of 2022. I bought a 2013 Mini Cooper S. This car comes standard with run-flat tires. When I took possession of the car there were 4 brand new tires on it. I drove the car for a year or so, and got a flat tire one night. There is no spare in this car because there is no room for a spare. I was stranded on the side of a busy highway with NON-run-flat tires and no spare because Carvana replaced the standard run-flats with non-run-flat tires. I had no way of knowing this until I got a flat and found myself stranded on the side of the road, alone, at night. Carvana never informed me that the tires they put on the car were not run flat tires, and they did not provide me with any type of flat tire pump or anything like that. They sold me an unsafe car! I am STILL driving a car with no spare and non-run-flat tires all because Carvana wanted to save a few bucks and figured I wouldn't find out until the 7-day or 30-day warranty had long ago expired. Carvana is guilty of selling an unsafe car. They know that the Mini Cooper comes with run flat tires and that there is no spare in the car, yet they didn't care and replaced the tires with cheaper non-run-flat tires. I have contacted Carvana multiple times but they just tell me that since I didn't report this issue within the 7-day return window I'm out of luck. How would I have known the tires they put on the car before selling it were not standard tires until I had a flat tire! I am not able to schedule my flat tire so that it happens within their short warranty window. I have contact the States Attorney General's office, the BBB, Consumer Affairs and eveyone tells me that they don't handle these types of complaints. I need you to help me get Carvana to replace the unsafe equip they put on the car with safe tires! PLEASE!!

TIRES PROBLEM

- Summary: I purchased a used car from Carvana. It had brand new tires on the car when I took possession of it. The make and model of my car comes standard with run-flat tires because my car does not have a spare tire. Before Carvana sold the car they replaced the tires with non run-flat tires but did not inform me of this. One year after I took possession of the car, I had a flat tire and was stranded on the side of a busy highway for hours because I had no spare and the tires Carvana put on the car were not run flat tires. I think Carvana put my safety at risk just to save a few bucks. I have contacted them multiple times and they won't help me. I think they should replace the tires on my car with run flat tires since I'm still driving an unsafe car. They knew the car comes standard with run flats and they knowingly replaced the tires with non run flats. Can you help me?

- Summary: I have 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman S and I was driving and I almost got rear ended because my turn signals were not working. There were no signals on the car indicating that the module failed. I took it to get inspected and It turns out that the footwell module failed and this is a known issue for Mini coopers, that has forced Mini to extend the warranty. [XXX] Apparently the footwell module is known to fail under very normal repair conditions when the battery is disconnected or jumped. Unfortunately, my car meets the warranty mileage limit but not the 10 year service data limit as the car's in service date was in January 2013. UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-20
- VIN: WMWSU3C51DT
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: In July 2023, a recall letter I received from MINI states a defective Footwell Control Module “could potentially result in a short circuit, resulting in a potential thermal event which could increase the risk of a fire or injury.” It also states “a remedy is currently being developed.” I called the local MINI dealer service department, and that department had never heard of the defect or the recall, sending me in to MINI Customer Relations. The gentlemen I spoke with said he thought the car was safe to drive (nowhere mentioned in the letter), and he could not offer anything in writing to back-up his claim. When I said what if there is a fire in the car, he suggested I “evacuate the vehicle.” I asked for a loaner since I was and still am concerned the car is not in fact safe to drive without an official written confirmation from MINI explaining why and how MINI knows my affected car is safe to drive in light of “increased risk of a fire or injury” identified in the recall letter. He could not answer and sent me on to MINI’s “Executive Office.” I received a call from Alyssa in that office who confirmed that no loaner or alternative transportation would be provided and who offered no other solution beyond another assurance the car was safe to drive despite the specific reference to increased “risk of fire or injury” in the recall letter. Again, no supporting information was provided for that claim, so I remain uncertain as to the safety of my vehicle and will not drive it without a remedy. I offered to have MINI buy back the car if they are so sure it is safe since I will not try to sell the car to anyone else under the circumstances. Since then, nothing whatsoever has happened and my car just sits idle. Surely there is some remedy available for this sort of callous disregard of customer safety and lack of any remedy about a safety issue that MINI itself has acknowledged. I am hoping your office can help me get this resolved quickly.

Congratulations on your recent purchase of the pre-owned Countryman S ALL4 (6-speed manual)! While I cannot personally vouch for its reliability, I can attest to its nimble handling and peppy performance. The interior space is also quite impressive, with ample leg room and trunk space. The steering feel and handling are simply sublime, and the acceleration in sport mode is excellent. Overall, this car is a great choice for those who enjoy small, fun-to-drive cars. It has a similar feel to the BMW xDrive. Enjoy your new ride!

In this price range, you may be faced with a dreary econo-box, stripped-out sedan, or something else uninspired. However, when I was purchasing a brand new car, my main goal was to find something with space, great gas mileage, and that was FUN to drive. The Countryman checks every box and then some! Don't get me wrong, there are other cars in this segment that offer great value, but the Countryman is the only one that will make you take a second look when you're walking away from it in a parking lot. Why not have your cake and eat it too?!
-
Hi there! I'm selling this car because I was looking for an automatic with the All/4 capability. But don't worry, it's still an outstanding car and so much fun to drive!
-
Congratulations on your new car! It's great to hear that you're enjoying your 2012 Countryman S with an automatic transmission. From your description, it sounds like a really fun car to drive, and it's wonderful that you're having such a positive experience with it. The steering sounds tight and very responsive, and the acceleration fantastic. It's also great to hear that you're enjoying the sport mode. The design of the car is really cool, and it's refreshing to have a car that stands out from the crowd. It's no surprise that so many people have asked about it when you pull into a parking lot. At 6'2

I was excited when I purchased my used 2013 Mini Countryman, but unfortunately, I have had a lot of problems with it. It seems like every week there is a new issue, with lights and beeps alerting me to yet another problem. I have had to deal with oil leaks, problems with the turbo, and even issues with smoke. Despite my best efforts to fix the problems, they persist. Unfortunately, I have spent more money on repairs than the car is worth, and I am unable to sell it due to the ongoing issues. It has been a frustrating experience, but I am hopeful that I will be able to find a solution soon.

I had a really bad experience with those cars and I wouldn't recommend them. My car had to be serviced four times in just seven months, which was frustrating and inconvenient. The service took a long time and I had to pay a full car payment during that time. The tires had to be replaced twice, and I didn't like the run flats. The water/coolant pump failed and had to be replaced with a refurbished pump. Lastly, the engine had to be replaced, which was surprising since the car only had 11,500 miles on it. At first, the service manager tried to blame me and said that Mini wouldn't cover the cost of a new engine, but when they found out that the oil had coolant in it, they changed their tune. Overall, I was disappointed with the service and felt like corporate was not helpful.

I got this car in April 2020 and have spent a lot of money on it, around $10,000 in total. Unfortunately, it has needed a lot of repairs, including a fuel pump, tire pressure sensor and tires, oil changes, alignments, battery, turbo charge, spark plugs and coils that needed replacing multiple times with minor driving usage, timing belt, drive belt, high pressure fuel pump, and more. The check engine light comes on almost every month, which has been frustrating. I have realized that it is not worth continuing to pour money into this car, especially since it is an older model and everything about it is expensive due to its age. I have decided to trade it in for a newer model with a car warranty. It's important to make a smart investment in a car that won't constantly drain your wallet.

I own a Mini Cooper S and it's a blast to drive! However, I have found that the maintenance costs can be quite high. Recently, I had an issue with the steering wheel shaking and took it to the only dealership in Pittsburgh, Mini of Pittsburgh. While requesting a quote to fix the problem, I found that they were unsure of the issue and quoted me $4500. Unfortunately, the staff was not very helpful and I left feeling frustrated. After declining their service, I was able to find a local mechanic who fixed the issue for only $900. It can be difficult to find a mechanic who is willing to work on this brand, but with a little effort, it's possible. While the maintenance costs can be high, I still enjoy driving my Mini Cooper S.

This car has had constant mechanical problems for five years, with issues such as the hood latch breaking ($300), the dashboard railing snapping off when the key got stuck (which I fixed myself), the 'car access module' going bad ($800), the driver's side door seizing up ($500), and the shift linkage breaking ($900), among others. In my opinion, the designers of this car (and possibly the whole Mini line) prioritized form over function in almost every aspect. Therefore, I strongly advise against purchasing this vehicle.
