2005 Volvo S60 problems

volvo logo

The Volvo S60 is a compact executive car manufactured and marketed by Volvo since 2000.

The first generation (2000–2009) was launched in autumn of 2000 in order to replace the S70 and was based on the P2 platform. It had a similar designed estate version called Volvo V70 and a high performance engine and sports-oriented suspension version called S60 R. Styling cues were taken from the ECC concept car and the S80.

The second generation (2010–2018) was released in 2010 for the 2011 model year and has its own estate version, known as the Volvo V60.

The third generation joined the Volvo line-up in 2018 for the 2019 model year. It is built on a shortened version of the Scalable Product Architecture platform, in America's first Volvo factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina. The US became the sole global source of the S60 sedan after production in China was phased out in early 2019.

Common 2005 Volvo S60 problems

The Volvo S60, introduced in 2000, was a popular choice in the market despite stiff competition from German sedans like the BMW Series 3 and Audi A84

. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems.

One of the most frequently reported issues is oil leakage at the junction of the transmission and engine nozzle, particularly in the D5 diesel engines

. This problem can lead to significant engine damage if not addressed promptly.

Another common issue is related to the fuel gauge and turbocharger. Some owners have reported problems with the fuel gauge reading incorrectly, while others have experienced issues with the turbocharger hose control unit

The Volvo S60's battery can also be a source of problems, particularly in older models. Battery issues can cause a variety of problems, including difficulty starting the car and electrical system malfunctions

The transmission is another area where the Volvo S60 can experience issues. Some owners have reported problems with the transmission shifting, including erratic shifting and transmission shift failures.

The engine itself can also be a source of problems. Some owners have reported issues with engine reliability, particularly in the earlier models of the Volvo S60

. These issues can range from minor problems like knocking and clicking sounds to more significant issues like thumping engines.

In summary, the Volvo S60, while a popular choice in its class, is not without its common problems. These include oil leakage at the junction of the transmission and engine nozzle, issues with the fuel gauge and turbocharger, battery problems, transmission shifting issues, and engine reliability concerns. It is important for potential buyers to be aware of these issues and to consider them when making their purchasing decision.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-10-01
  • VIN: YV1RH527952
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
  • Summary: ANGLE/COLLAR GEAR/SLEEVE, HALDEX AWD. HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF AWD VOLVOS HAVE THIS ISSUE YET VOLVO HAS NEVER TAKEN ACTION OR RECALLED PART. THIS IS JUST ONE OF MANY ISSUES THOUSANDS OF VOLVO'S HAVE. BUT THE AWD SYSTEM NON FUNCTIONING DUE TO STRIPPED TEETH CAUSED BY RUST BECAUSE OF INADEQUATE GREASE/LUBE ETC. ON THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES RANGING FROM THEIR SMALL SEDANS TO SUV'S SHOULD BE SOMETHING. THEY HAVE EVEN UPDATED THE ANGLE GEAR/COLLAR SLEEVE WITH ONE THAT HAS "HARDENED" TEETH, BUT NO RECALL ON A PART OF THE VEHICLE THAT IS SUPPOSE TO ALWAYS FUNCTION. A LOT WERE LUCKY ENOUGH IT HAPPENED WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. BUT GETTING STUCK/STRANDED IN SNOW BECAUSE YOUR VEHICLE IS ONLY 2 WHEEL DRIVE WHEN ITS SUPPOSE TO BE AWD. I DID NOT FIND OUT MY AWD DID NOT WORK UNTIL I HAD GOTTEN STUCK IN THE SNOW. TURNS OUT HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAD TO FIND OUT THIS SAME WAY. I BELIEVE VOLVO HAS JUST BEEN LUCKY NO ONE HAS DIED YET DUE TO FAILED AWD SYSTEM. I AM NOT CERTAIN ABOUT WHAT CONDITIONS NEED TO BE MET BEFORE A RECALL IS DONE. THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE ISSUES WITH VOLVO'S. I AM NOT SURE ON THE EXACT DATE MY AWD SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING BECAUSE DRIVING ON ANYTHING OTHER THAN SNOW, OR ICE YOU CANNOT TELL. BUT A SIMPLE SEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE STARTING EARLY AS 2000'S TO MOST RECENT AS 2019 HAVING SAME ISSUES, SOME MORE THAN ONCE, AND A FEW COMING UP WITH THEIR OWN WAY OF FIXING VOLVOS ISSUE. BUT PHOTOS CAN BE FOUND ALL OVER THE WEB. ALSO VOLVO SELLS THESE ADVERTISED AS AWD WHEN IN FACT IT IS FWD ALL TIME, UNTIL FRONT TIRES LOSE TRACTION WHICH ONLY THEN DO THE REAR WHEELS ENGAGE. YET CAN BREAK OR MALFUNCTION EVEN THOUGH THEY ONLY EVER COME ON 20-30% OF THE VEHICLES TOTAL MILES DRIVEN. NOT SURE OF AWD DEFINITION BUT I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT STOOD FOR ALL WHEEL DRIVE, NOT FRONT WHEEL DRIVE; ALL WHEEL DRIVE WHEN FRONT WHEELS LOSE TRACTION.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-04-17
  • VIN: YV1RS640252
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: TWICE NOW OVER A TEN DAY PERIOD FIRST WHEN REDUCING SPEED TO A STOP OR THEN AGAIN AT A SPEED OF LESS THAN 5 MPH, THE CAR DIED...FIRST THE ENGINE DIED THEN ALL ELSE DIED. THE CAR WENT DEAD. I STILL HAD MY STEERING AND SLOWLY ROLLED TO THE CURBED THEN AS I GENTLY PUT ON THE BRAKES THE CAR JERKED TO A HALT. DURING THE SECOND INCIDENT THE CAR STILL JERKED AFTER I HAD STOPPED. A LOUD SOUND OF A FAN FROM THE ENGINE COULD BE HEARD. THE FAN STOPPED AFTER 10 TO 15 SECONDS. AFTER A MINUTE I RESTARTED THE CAR AND MADE IT HOME BOTH TIMES. *TR

SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-09-15
  • VIN: YV1RS592452
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: THE CAR HAD DIFFICULTY IN STARTING ALL OF A SUDDEN. IT APPEARED TO BE AN ELECTRONIC IGNITION PROBLEM. AFTER A FEW STARTS, WARNING SIGNALS STARTED COMING ON. FIRST WAS "ENGINE UNDER PERFORMANCE" AND THEN IT WAS "BREAK FAILURE". THE CAR WAS STOPPED AND TOWED TO VOLVO DEALER. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE CAR'S FUEL PUMP / LINES WERE DESIGNED AND INSTALLED OUTSIDE THE WEATHER SHIELDED HOUSING. THE SALT USED FOR SNOW MELTING CORRODES THESE LINES AND SEVERAL CARS SHOW UP WITH THIS ISSUE.SO THEY REPLACED THEM AND MOVED THEM TO WITHIN THE WEATHER PROTECTED AREA. SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I FOUND SEVERAL VOLVO CARS OF THIS ERA HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND SEVERAL OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING - BOTH LOSS OF SPEED AND BREAK FAILURE. MY CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED, REGULAR OIL CHANGES WITH THE SYNTHETIC OIL AND MAINTAINED BY VOLVO DEALER OR SPECIALIST. I ALSO USE THE RECOMMENDED 91 OR 93 OCTANE GAS, SO IT CANNOT BE ATTRIBUTED TO LAX MAINTENANCE OR LESSER QUALITY FUEL. THE ONLINE FORUMS SEEM TO HAVE ALL KINDS OF DIAGNOSTICS FOR THIS PROBLEM. IF IT WAS A DESIGN FAULT AT MANUFACTURER, AS ADVISED BY THE VOLVO DEALER, I WOULD THINK IT WOULD SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR RECALL. *TR

THE CONTACT HAD AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACE THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR MORE THAN THREE TIMES BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR WAS CLEANED AND THE SENSOR WAS RESET BY THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT THAT DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT AN INTERIM SOLUTION WAS TO DISCONNECT THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND UPON DOING SO THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE THE HESITATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

  • Summary: CAR CUT OUT AND STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. THE CAR HAD MORE THAN A QUARTER TANK OF FUEL AT THE TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR EARLY FEBRUARY 2014. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND THERE IS A HIGH POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE READ OTHER VOLVO S60'S FROM OTHER YEARS WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN RELATION TO FUEL SYSTEM. WHY WAS THIS YEAR NOT RECALLED WHEN THERE IS CLEARLY THE SAME PROBLEM?

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2008-11-03
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
  • Summary: I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM (RADIATOR) TWICE FOR THIS CAR IN LESS THAN 66K. WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING, THE WARNING "STOP CAR IMMEDIATELY COOLANT LOW" COMES ON. VOLVO HAS CHANGED THE SUPPLIER FOR THIS PART, WHICH TELLS ME THEY KNOW IT IS A PROBLEM. NOT ONLY IS THIS SCARY, BUT THE COST TO REPLACE (WITH LABOR) IS OVER $1,300. I THINK THIS IS BOTH A HAZARD FOR THE DRIVER, OTHER DRIVERS (IF YOU NEED TO PULL OVER QUICKLY AND STOP YOUR ENGINE) AS WELL AS AN UNNECESSARY COST. AS A CONSUMER WHO HAS TOLERATED ENOUGH CORPORATE ABUSE (BANKS, WALL STREET, CAR BAILOUTS) I AM HOPEFUL THAT THE NHTSA WILL LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND REQUIRE THAT VOLVO STAND BEHIND THE QUALITY OF THE CARS THEY MAKE AND SELL. *TR

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-11-28
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: I OWN A 2005 VOLVO S60. WHEN DRIVING TODAY TO WORK, WITH NO WARNING, THE VEHICLE STALLED. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE GAS AND THE STEERING BECAME ROUGH. HITTING THE ACCELERATOR DID NOTHING. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ONCE I TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON IT RESTARTED. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY, IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH VOLVO. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THESE INCIDENTS FOR UNDER YEARS 2003 -AND 2004- 07V226000 . THE RECALL FOR THE S40 COVERED THROUGH 2006 - 08V033000. A SEARCH OF THE INTERNET FORUM SHOWS THAT THIS IS HAPPENING FOR A LOT OF THE 2005 MODELS AS WELL. PLEASE CONSIDER INCLUDING THESE MODEL YEARS AS THIS IS A DANGER. *KB

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-09-11
  • VIN: YV1RH592X52
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: WITHOUT WARNING OR OTHER PROBLEMS, THE CAR'S ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AT ABOUT 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, MESSAGE OF "REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE" CAME ON. ALTHOUGH THE CAR REMAINED TURNED ON, PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL HAD LITTLE TO NO EFFECT ON EITHER THE MOVEMENT OF THE CAR OR THE RPM'S. ONCE THE CAR WAS STOPPED BUT WAS STILL TURNED ON, IT MAINTAINED A STRONG "PULSING" ACTION AND SOUND FROM THE ENGINE. WHEN PUT INTO "DRIVE" AND "REVERSE" GEARS, THE CAR MOVED IN "LIMP MODE" AT APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH PRESSURE WAS PLACED ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER COASTING IT OFF THE TOW TRUCK, THE CAR STARTED NORMALLY AND RESPONDED NORMALLY WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE AND FORWARD GEARS, BUT THE "REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE" MESSAGE REMAINED. DEALER'S SERVICE COMPUTER INDICATED AT LEAST 10 ERROR CODES, MOST PERTAINING TO FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS. THE SERVICE COMPUTER ALSO INDICATED THAT THE INITIAL AND PRIMARY PROBLEM WAS WITH THE ELECTRONIC FUEL PUMP MODULE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT'S INSPECTION OF THIS ELECTRONIC PART, AND THE STAFF'S EXPERIENCE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON OTHER VOLVO'S MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO 2006, INDICATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC FUEL PUMP MODULE HAD SUFFERED CORROSION DUE TO ITS PLACEMENT ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED WHEN A NEW ELECTRONIC FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS INSTALLED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS A VERY COSTLY REPAIR. I WAS INFORMED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF NO. AMERICA'S VOLVO CUSTOMER CARE DEPARTMENT THAT THIS DEFECT CONTRIBUTED TO RECALLS OF TWO DIFFERENT VOLVO MODELS OF THE SAME YEAR, BUT NOT THE S60. THE REASON FOR OMITTING THE S60 FROM THE RECALL WAS NOT EXPLAINED, BUT CLEARLY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED SINCE THE LOCATION OF THE FUEL MODULE AND THE RESULTING PROBLEMS ARE THE SAME. IN ADDITION TO THE HIGH COST OF THE REPAIR, THE UNUSUAL HIGHWAY BREAKDOWN WAS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR

  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER
  • Summary: I HAVE SEEN THE RECALL OF VOLVO S60 MODELS 2001-2005 IN US IN REGARDS TO THE FUEL PUMP CRACKS IN FLANGE AND THUS LEAK OF FUEL WHICH MAY RESULT IN A FIRE. I AM CURRENTLY (SINCE 7 DAYS OF THE DATE OF WRITING THIS COMPLAINT) HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY CAR (VOLVO S60 MODEL 2005) IN UAE/ ABU DHABI. THE DEALER ALONG WITH THE SERVICE MANAGERS AND WORKSHOP REFUSED TO CARRY THE REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE SINCE THE RECALL IS NOT WITHIN UAE AND MY CAR CHASSIS NUMBER IS NOT LISTED EITHER. I WAS DOING THE UTMOST TO LET THEM UNDERSTAND THAT THIS A SAFETY ISSUE REGARDLESS THE RECALL LIST AND REGARDLESS IF IT IS INSIDE UAE OR OUTSIDE AND THUS VOLVO DEALER MUST REPAIR FOR ME AT ONCE FREE OF CHARGE. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT MY SAFETY WHERE I STILL SMELL THE GAS INSIDE THE CAR AND I AM EXPOSED TO A FIRE AS LONG AS I AM DRIVING IT WITH NO REPAIR. I AM WRITING THIS TO ANNOUNCE THE UNSATISFIED ABOUT THE WAY THE DEALER/ SERVICE MANAGER TREATED THIS SUBJECT AND CONCENTRATING ABOUT THE MONEY TO BE PAID BY THE CUSTOMER RATHER THAN SUSTAIN THE SAFETY OF PERSONNEL/ OWNERS OF VOLVO. I TOLD THEM THAT THEY NEED TO REPORT TO VOLVO INTERNATIONAL THAT THE SUBJECT OF THE RECALL IN US HAPPENED WITH ONE OF THE CUSTOMERS IN UAE. YET I GOT A NEGATIVE ACTION AND/ OR CARE. *TR

  • Summary: HEADLIGHT WIRING AND CONNECTOR BURNED CAUSING LIGHT TO GO OUT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE WIRING AND CONNECTOR ACCORDING TO A TSB ISSUED BY VOLVO. DEALER STATED THAT THEY HAD REPAIRED SEVERAL VOLVOS WITH THIS PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH THE DEALER SAID THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND VOLVO ISSUED A TSB AND PROVIDED A REPAIR KIT FOR REPAIRS VOLVO DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. THANKFULLY, ONLY ONE LIGHT BURNED OUT AT THE TIME OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE CRASHED AT 70 MPH. DEALER SAID BOTH HEADLIGHT WIRING CABLES AND CONNECTORS WERE BURNT AND THEY REPLACED BOTH. I REPORTED THIS SAFETY ISSUE TO TENNESSEE AND KENTUCKY CONSUMER PROTECTION DIVISION. THIS ONE LIGHT WENT OUT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BEFORE I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND DISCOVERED THE SAFETY PROBLEM. REPAIRS MADE AT MY COST. *TR

I WAS ABLE TO MOVE RIGHT TO SAFETY AND WHEN DOING SO THE UPPER HALF OF THE TIRE ROLLED PAST ME AND CAME TO REST 50 FEET AHEAD OF THE CAR AGAINST THE RAILING. ALL TIRES ARE NEW, WITH LESS THAN 200 MILES ON THEM. I CALLED 911, THE STATE POLICE CAME AND CALLED A WRECKER. I WAS TOWED AND RECEIVED A REPLACEMENT TIRE AT A CAR SHOP AND RETURNED HOME. ON INSPECTION IT APPEARED THAT THE SIDEWALL COMPLETE GAVE A WAY. FORTUNATELY A PIECE OF THE RUBBER STAYED ON THE RIM THUS PROTECTING THE RIM FROM DAMAGE. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AND I WOULD LIKE YOU TO INVESTIGATE. FORTUNATELY NOBODY WAS HURT BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. Negative 2005 Volvo S60 car reviews

I didn't plan on buying a Volvo, but ended up with one. The acceleration is great, but I have had some issues with the brakes squeaking and needing replacement. Unfortunately, the expensive tires had to be replaced at only 20,000 miles. The multi CD player skips, and even after being replaced, still has the same issue. The back seat doesn't have much leg room, and it's difficult to fit a car seat behind it. Additionally, the car's turning radius makes it challenging to park. However, my husband's truck is much better at turning and parking.

I'm glad to say that I was able to return this vehicle under CA lemon law. Unfortunately, I had to take it in for brake squeak/squeal on 7 separate occasions within 12 months. I tried euro spec pads, updated US pads, deglazing rotors, and more, but nothing seemed to work. It was frustrating to have a stealthy car that drew attention because of the HORRIBLE squeal from the brakes. I even had to roll up my window on many occasions because I couldn't stand the noise! On top of all that, the Service Manager told me that all brakes squeak, which I found hard to believe. To their credit, Volvo paid me back in full, less $433 of accrued costs through ~1,000mi when I first reported the problem. I hope this feedback helps them improve their future models.

The car has great acceleration and handling, and a nice sporty look. Although my wife loves the car, I would suggest looking elsewhere mainly because of the interior design and options. As someone who is 6'1

I had two S60R cars from Volvo, but unfortunately both turned out to be lemons. The second car had several issues such as wheel bearings and rear tail lights going out, burning oil at a high rate, and the chassis loosening up after only 6000 miles. Despite multiple service calls, the issues persisted and I eventually had to get rid of the car. I strongly advise against purchasing this vehicle, unless you enjoy spending a lot of time with your service people.

Positive 2005 Volvo S60 car reviews

As a sports car enthusiast since childhood, I decided to purchase something practical after owning a Ford F150 4x4 for 8 years. I grew tired of spending over $100 a week on gas. The 'R' was my top choice, above all other considerations. It is a highly competitive car that offers the best value for money. With AWD, superb interior design (except for the rear legroom), and power, it is an exhilarating car to drive. In its most sporty and aggressive mode (advanced), it's hard to press the gas pedal without finding yourself at 100 mph. The handling is responsive with a firm ride. In comfort mode, it feels like a luxury car with a lot of power. It also has a great sound system and looks fantastic!

I just got this car a few days ago and I absolutely love it! It's so much fun to drive and feels much heavier than my 01 Honda Civic (which I also liked as well) on the road. The transmission is great and it has excellent power. While the jury's still out on gas mileage, I think it's worth it for the smooth ride. I'm also very pleased with all of the safety features. I hope to have this car for a long time to come!

  3. Avery Schuster 2024-10-07

This is a great long distance touring sedan that offers impressive performance and can keep up with the likes of BMW M5, Audi A4, and all Mercedes class sedans. While the gas mileage may not be as good as modern cars, we still manage to average 21 all around. It's important to keep up with timely maintenance to avoid costly repairs. If you're able to find an s60r for the price listed by Edmunds, be prepared to invest an additional $3000 in suspension and maintenance. A reliable 2005 s60r will cost around $7500. I've personally put 200,000 miles on my s60r without any major repairs and have traveled all over the U.S. in all sorts of weather with no problems. Plus, this car is built for the snow and is very safe in that regard.

  4. Jamal Bernhard 2024-10-05

I absolutely love my 2006 S60 R! After owning two 850 R's from 96/97, I thought I had all the style and performance I needed, but this car has exceeded my expectations. It's packed with amazing features and is the most fun I've had driving in years. I've even had several people, mostly women, tell me how sexy it looks. I've left a M3 in the review mirror, leaving jaws dropping. It's such a cool feeling! While some reviews complain about the limited back seat room, I don't mind at all. I prefer not to have anyone back there, as it would only slow me down. And who cares about the limited turning? I'm always looking ahead to passing the unexpected. With the 18-inch rims and body package, it looks very aggressive. It's just BAD!!

  5. Marc Ratke 2024-09-20

That's great! I can hardly believe that I bought a Volvo! Just three months ago, if you had asked me if I would consider a Volvo S60R, my response would have been, 'A Volvo?' However, when I went to the Volvo dealership to test drive the XC90, I found the R to be very appealing. I took it for a spin, and the rest is history! I have fun every time I drive this car. My previous car was a '97 Honda Prelude, which doesn't come close to the ride feel, comfort, and solid build of the Volvo. Although I am yet to see how reliable the turbocharged engine turns out to be, my old Honda never let me down. Overall, I am very pleased with my R. Before I decided to go with the Volvo, I test drove the IS300, 330I, TL, and G35.
