The Scion xB is a compact car (subcompact car in its first generation) made by Scion, a now-defunct fully owned division of Toyota, for the United States market. It is a box-shaped, 5-door hatchback.
First generation (XP30; 2003)
The first-generation xB was a lightly modified and rebadged version of the Japanese-market subcompact Toyota bB. It was a small hatchback based on the Toyota Echo/Yaris platform. The xB was one of two models in the lineup of Toyota's US-exclusive Scion division present at the brand's 2003 launch, the other being the xA, based on the Toyota ist. The car proved to be unexpectedly popular with senior drivers.
First-generation xB vs. first-generation bB
Only the first-generation models for both the xB and bB are related. Second-generation models are based upon different platforms.
To create the first-generation xB, the bB was modified from right- to left-hand drive, the front passenger area was also changed significantly with the bB's front bench seat replaced with bucket seats and the column-mounted shifter changed to a floor-mounted shifter.
The available drivetrains also differed. The bB was available with either the 1.3 L I4 2NZ-FE engine or the 1.5 L 1NZ-FE, mated exclusively to a 4-speed automatic transmission with available all wheel drive. The xB was only available with the 1NZ-FE that produced 108 hp (81 kW) and 105 lb⋅ft (142 N⋅m) in US spec, but offered both a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission. All-wheel drive was not offered on the xB.
The Toyota bB was equipped with a compact spare tire under the floor of the luggage area. On the Scion xB, a compact spare tire was stored under the left side of a raised rear cargo floor. Since the spare tire raised the cargo floor by several inches, a storage bin was added to the right of the spare tire to reclaim some of the lost storage space. A jack was stored under the driver's seat of the xB.
The Toyota bB had a pull-out storage tray under the passenger seat that the xB lacks.
The bB went on sale in February 2000, whereas the xB went on sale in June 2003 for the 2004 model year. Sales of the first-generation bB ended in December 2005, whereas the first-generation xB ended sales in June 2007.

WHEN THERE ARE COMPANIES WHO ARE MAKING A PROFIT PRODUCING ENHANCED REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR YOUR CAR BECAUSE TOYOTA WON'T SOMETHING IS WRONG. I WILL BE BUYING MY REPLACEMENT PARTS FROM THEM. BEFORE THE SEAT FAILED, I DID NOT CHANGE ANY SEAT POSITION (I PROBABLY ADJUSTED IT A WEEK BEFORE IT HAPPENED). IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN FEBRUARY, THAT TIME IT HAPPENED TO ME IMMEDIATELY AFTER PUTTING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN PARK THE SEAT DROPPED BACK ONE POSITION BACK. AFTER ALL THIS ALL HAPPENED I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL DEALER (TOYOTA OF TAMPA BAY) WHERE THEY LOOKED AT THE SEAT AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I AM SLIGHTLY SUSPICIOUS THAT THEY DID FIX SOMETHING BUT DID NOT WANT TO ADMIT THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF THIS HAPPENED TO SOMEONE ELSE OR IF I WAS DRIVING FASTER (E.G. ON THE INTERSTATE) WHERE SMALLER ADJUSTMENTS TO THE STEERING CAN CAUSE SEVERE INJURIES, IF NOT FATALITIES.

LATER AFTER I STOPPED, I WENT AROUND AND OPENED THE DOOR AND TRIED THE SWITCH ON THE DOOR. THE WINDOW WOULD NOT OPEN. I CONTACTED SCION BY EMAIL AND THEY TOOK DOWN THE INFORMATION AND ASSIGNED ME CASE #150808054 AND TOLD ME TO CONTACT THEM BY PHONE. I DID AND SPOKE WITH LAUREN WHO WAS VERY GRACIOUS AND TOOK INFO FROM ME BUT HAD NO RESOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME THE DEALERSHIP WOULD HAVE TO GIVE ME A PRICE ON REPAIRING IT. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED ME AND SAID IT WOULD BE BETWEEN $300 AND $500 DEPENDING ON WHAT WAS WRONG TO FIX IT. THE GENTLEMEN TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING MORE TO BE DONE IF SCION DIDN'T OFFER TO REPAIR IT FOR ME. I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN AND CANNOT AFFORD THIS TYPE OF COST TO REPAIR A WINDOW. THEREFORE I AM DRIVING WITH IT UNABLE TO OPEN. NOW AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. IF SOMEONE IS IN THE BACKSEAT AND FOR ANY REASON WOULD NEED TO GET THAT WINDOW DOWN AND COULDN'T IT COULD BE VERY SERIOUS. A WINDOW SHOULD WORK AS LONG AS THE CAR IS ON THE ROAD AND THERE IS NOTHING TO OVERRIDE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO OPEN THE WINDOW. THIS LOOKS LIKE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR CAR. SCION SEEMS TOTALLY UNCONCERNED AND OFFERED NO HELP. WHAT CAN BE DONE IF ANYTHING? YOU ARE MY LAST HOPE FOR RESOLVING THIS...IT MAKES ME EXTREMELY NERVOUS TO KNOW THAT WINDOW CANNOT BE OPENED FOR WHATEVER REASON IT MIGHT NEED TO BE. Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to say that I really enjoy driving this car on the highway. It's been great for me, and I get about 34 MPG, sometimes even more! I know some people think it's small, but once they get inside, they're always impressed with how much space there is. We've even hauled some big stuff in it while moving, and had 5 adults fit comfortably for a ride. Plus, we've never had any problems with the car itself, which is always a relief. I live in WI, and even with all the snow we get, I've never gotten stuck in it. The only thing I wish was different is the suspension - it can be pretty bumpy on some roads. Oh, and we did have to replace the windshield from a random crack that split all the way across. But overall, I'm really happy with my Yaris - I just love Toyota's small cars!

Bought the car new on 06. Ten years later, and 186,000 miles it is still going strong. We've made the NY to FLA trip 6 times, ski and never a problem. No major repairs ever- only scheduled maintenance and oil changes. Simply put- the best car we've ever owned.

I have no regrets! I absolutely love this car! I think my dog thinks it's hers! It makes me smile just to look at it and everybody needs to smile! What a great car!!!

The 2006 xb may not be the most attractive car, but its unique design provides an incredible amount of interior space. Despite stop-and-go traffic, my wife still averages an impressive 31 mpg during her daily commute. While the interior may not feel luxurious, the high seating position offers excellent visibility. The 1.5 liter engine may not be the most powerful, but with such great gas mileage, it's not a concern. At only $15,000, this car is a steal, especially with the optional cruise and armrest. The rear liftgate may be a bit awkward to open due to its height, but it's a small price to pay for such a spacious interior. Although the cruise control can be a bit finicky, once engaged, it works perfectly fine. Overall, this car offers the best value for your money, which is why it has such a high resale value.

I bought this car new and unfortunately, I had to pay extra for cruise control and an armrest that is not very comfortable. The armrest is made of cheap plastic and covered with cloth, and my elbow barely fits on it. However, it did add a rear cup holder which is a nice feature. Unfortunately, my windshield suffered a stress crack only 6 days after I purchased the car, and I have been driving around with a cracked windshield ever since. Although this is a well-known problem, it is not covered under warranty. Additionally, there is a strange rattle in the dash that is quite annoying. The cruise control is a cheap aftermarket piece of plastic that does not stay at a constant speed, so I never use it. It is also not flushly mounted. Despite these small issues, this is a cool car with great MPG and plenty of room.
