UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-07-09
  • VIN: 3N1CN7AP8CL
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: IN reference to NHTSA Recall 15V-507 on this vehicle which included a CVT transmission reprogramming ,which I handled by taking vehicle to the dealer on 10/20/2015! The letter I received added this issue as if it were a COURTESY action of Nissan and made NO mention of the CVT transmission having MAJOR ISSUES! As MOST Car Owners, I assumed that this 2015 CVT reprogramming would resolve any PAST or FUTURE issues with it.! I was still concerned that my vehicle was only 3 years & already had 2 recall items! Sadly, I trusted the dealer & once these were handled , I felt good about driving the vehicle, thinking it should go to about 150,000 miles! I have NOW learned that so many of the CVT transmissions were totally failing and lawsuits were being filed because of it. Apparently in 2017, NISSAN admitted it and extended the warranty on CVT transmissions. If I ever received notice of this, I have no printed copy or memory of that! I lived 2 minutes from work in 2012 and retired a year after purchase. I primarily drive locally and short distances and have very low miles on this vehicle. NOW..My 6-week dilemma:*Check engine light came on 7/9/22, right after I got gas! Garage kept, only 52,000 miles on it, routinely serviced and in stellar condition, I am NOW being told that the CVT transmission needs TOTAL replacement. MY CAR however, did PASS NC inspection at a Nissan dealership (with Check Engine light STILL ON) 7/21/22, with them giving a 4200.00 estimate When I said I had no money, they sent me out the door and said they hope I don't break down! NISSAN of North America is going totally by VEHICLE'S AGE, even though I have found reference that the CVT warranty should be 10 years or 120,000! Since 7/9/21, I have been given totally conflicting information on current SAFETY of MY CAR and the best offer given by NISSAN is to reduce my repair cost to $2381.09 for a REBUILT transmission with ONE-YEAR warranty! MY main concern: IS MY CAR SAFE TO DRIVE? I am 64!

  • Summary: After having my transmission replaced with a used CVT transmission on Dec 2021, I went to leave the transmission shop only to have no power. When I gave my vehicle gas, there was no power it would not go forward or backwards. The code repeatedly coming up was P2101. My car was in the shop for 4 months with Williams Transmission in Park Hills, MO 63601. (573) 431-6570. Every time Willie would call & say it’s fixed & I would go try driving g home, again same issue. Finally on March 23, 2022 I was called once again to come pick up my car after hack v another used CVT Transmission put in still the same code P2101 was coming up with the check engine light. It took me 40 mins to go home occasionally getting evcrlation to make it home, it should’ve took no more than 10 mins from his shop to my house.. I paid $3000 to have transmission replaced and still isn’t running correctly. I lose excelaration on highway, county & city tosds. I never know when!! It’s a big issue & major safety issues & concerns

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-02-12
  • VIN: 3N1CN7AP5CL
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: The vehicle is a 2012 Nissan Versa driven only 81,000+ miles. I was driving the vehicle up a modest incline on Saturday, February 12, 2022. The car started to shudder and felt like it was losing power, as if it were running out of fuel. I pulled off when I turned the next corner and stopped. As I started out again, the check engine light came on, so I drove it to my mechanic. He has informed me that the malfunction code is a transmission failure code, and he is performing more diagnostics related to this code. In doing research, I now know that there is a fundamental failure with the CVT automatic transmissions for this model year of Nissan Versa, typically occurring at 75,000-85,000 miles. I am not eligible for Nissan's $278M settlement of a class action suit for this issue, because claims were only eligible for the first 84 months after purchase and the claim window is now closed. Everything I have read suggests that this is a critical and dangerous problem, because this CVT transmission failure can even result in the car losing all power and coming to a complete stop in traffic. This is a fundamental and life-threatening issue for which I believe Nissan should provide a full recall for the affected vehicles.

These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
  • Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflators, free of charge. The recall began on June 8, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Negative 2012 Nissan Versa car reviews

This car has had some issues, but I have taken it to the dealership for repairs. Despite their initial inability to detect the issue, I brought it back in when it was jerking on the road and the check engine light came on. While the warranty had expired, they were able to reprogram it to address the issue. Unfortunately, the transmission has since failed and requires a $3,000 repair. If you are considering selling this car, it may be best to do so while it is still in working condition.

It seems like many people are experiencing issues with the CVT in their Nissan vehicles, including myself. Unfortunately, after only 4 years of ownership, I am faced with the costly replacement of the CVT. It's disappointing that this seems to be a common problem regardless of how long someone has owned their vehicle. I am considering joining a class action suit to address this issue. It's disheartening to lose trust in a brand that I once believed in.

Hey there! It looks like your CRT might fail just beyond the warranty period.

  4. Shane Marks 2024-09-15

This car has significant issues with its CVT, with an average failure rate of 69,000 miles. Unfortunately, the CVT cannot be repaired by a transmission shop and must be replaced with either a re-manufactured or used unit. It is important to note that every transmission shop I visited confirmed that the CVT will inevitably fail between 120 and 160 thousand miles, if not sooner. I personally experienced a failure at 93,583 miles. The cost to replace the CVT with a re-manufactured unit ranges from $3,000 to $4,500. It is important to consider these factors before purchasing this car.

I purchased my new Versa in late September and unfortunately, it started making a constant, high-pitched, very loud, whiney noise. I took it back to Benson Nissan in Easley, S.C. and the mechanics were able to hear the sound right away. They informed me that there have been several complaints about this noise and it is coming from the CVT. Nissan is currently working on a solution and there will be a recall once the issue is resolved. I must also mention that the Versa has a strong glue smell in the interior and I discovered that the car contains many toxic chemicals in the interior materials, which is why it is rated as the No.1 Most Toxic Car in America. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this car.

Positive 2012 Nissan Versa car reviews

This car may not be the most stylish, but it definitely gets the job done. I have the S model with the CVT transmission and I am pleased with the spacious interior that easily accommodates me (6' 240), my wife, daughter, mother-in-law, and luggage for the weekend. I appreciate the roll-up windows, although it can be a bit of a hassle that the passenger door does not have a keyed entry and there are no power door locks. However, one feature that came in handy a few weeks ago is the tire pressure sensor. When I picked up a nail, the dashboard warned me that a tire was low on air pressure. Although I am not a fan of the seat material on the S version, I bought some seat covers that are much better. Overall, the car is an excellent value and there is not much to complain about.

The Versa manual 5-speed sedan is amazing when it comes to mileage. I am getting an impressive 53-56 miles per gallon as indicated by the on-board mileage computer when driving at speeds of 55 to 60 miles per hour. It's surprising that the manufacturer doesn't advertise this mileage on its window sticker. The ride is smooth even at faster speeds and the mileage increases to 60 miles per gallon when driving at 45 miles per hour.

  3. Harold Schmeler 2024-07-11

After test driving almost every subcompact model, we ultimately chose the Versa sedan due to its exceptional combination of interior space, excellent visibility, and outstanding fuel efficiency. While it may not be the most stylish car on the market, we couldn't find another vehicle that was as easy to drive and could comfortably fit four 6-foot adults. The Versa sits about 6 inches taller than other small cars, providing excellent visibility in all directions and making it very easy to get in and out of all four doors. Although the interior is made of basic hard plastic, it does offer six cup holders and all controls are easily accessible. Additionally, the seats in the SL trim are soft and comfortable. Overall, the Versa is an excellent choice for those seeking outstanding fuel efficiency.

We're so glad to hear that you've had no problems with your car in the month that you've had it! It sounds like you're getting great value for your money, especially with your wife getting 41mpg on her commute. It's impressive that the car is quite large for a sub compact, and it's great that you were able to customize it with a center arm rest and vanity mirrors. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

I understand the struggle of having a long commute, especially when it involves covering 110 miles a day. It can be quite tiring, especially when you have to deal with a gas-guzzling SUV that only gives you 17 miles per gallon. That's why I was on the lookout for a car that would give me great fuel economy without having to worry about car payments. After considering several options, including the Honda and Toyota Yaris and Corolla, I found that they just didn't meet my expectations. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I came across the Nissan Versa, which was being offered for under 11k. Although the 11k version had a manual transmission, wind-up windows, basic stereo, and seat cloth that felt like twine, I understood that it was a new car and not a luxury vehicle. The dealer then showed me the SV version, which was a little more expensive at 16.5k but had a much nicer interior, CVT box, iPod plug, and nicer seats. I test drove it and bought it on the same day. I must say, the car has exceeded my expectations with its amazing fuel economy, which is even better than what they claim. Overall, it's a great car that I'm really happy with.
