The water trough runs under the windshield wipers runs from one side of the car to the other. the trough collects water and has the drains on each side get plugged, water collects in the trough and will slosh back and forth especially when you are driving and making turns. There is an entry hole (filter cabin, i believe) that then lets the built up water flow right into the passenger side floor. My carpet becomes wet from the front passenger side to the back passenger side. I have called my dealership and they have no clue. the Nissan dealership wanted me to leave my car for two days for a diagnosis and they do not give loaners during this time of diagnosis and repair.

I was trapped inside of the car and could not get out of the car through the driver's side door and had to climb out of driver seat over to passenger door to get out of the car. If I was older and had health problems I would of not been able to get out of the car. Very dangerous and should not ever happen to any car door. When I took my car into my mechanics for repair, there was another Versa that was brought in for the exact same problem, unbelievable. I did write to Nissan and they had a consumer affairs person call me. I spoke to a women and she informed me that Nissan did not have any recalls for the door locks. I expressed my concern for the safety and she told me that I should of taken the car to the Nissan dealer. I told her that I was not able to get into the driver's door and had my daughter climb into the car to drive to our mechanic to have it repaired as there is not a Nissan dealer nearby.

SUSPENSION,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-08-01
  • VIN: 3N1CN7AP9HL
  • Components: SUSPENSION,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: IF YOU HAVE THE AC FULL BLAST AND ARE IDLING AT A RED LIGHT THE CAR WILL STALL OUT AS IF IT WEREN'T GETTING FUEL BECAUSE IT WON'T START RIGHT BACK UP. IN ORDER FOR ME TO START IT I HAD TO PRESS AND DEPRESS THE ACCELERATION PEDAL WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN IT OVER. IF TURNING OVER EXCEEDS THE BATTERIES VOLTAGE IT WILL KILL THE BATTERY RESULTING IN WORSE PROBLEMS. IF YOU'RE LUCKY IT WILL TURN OVER AFTER A LONG TIME TURNING IT OVER WHILE PUSHING GAS PEDAL BUT IF YOU DON'T UNPLUG AND PLUG IN THE FUEL PUMP IT MIGHT NOT WORK. IF YOU IDLE FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME YOU'LL STALL OUT FOR SURE ONCE THE CAR STARTS SPUTTERING HITTING THE GAS PEDAL WILL ONLY INCREASE THE SPEED OF THE STALL BECAUSE LETTING GO SEEMS TO DRAIN THE SYSTEMS FUEL AND IT SEEMS YOU'LL HAVE TO GET THE FUEL RUNNING THRU SYSTEM AGAIN. THIS CAR ALSO HAS A LOT MORE WRONG WITH FOR STARTERS THE TRUNK IS NOT SEALED BY WELDING IT HONESTLY LOOKS LIKE BROWN PAINT WHICH DOESN'T COMPLETELY COVER THE CRACKS BETWEEN THE FRAME AND TRUNK BOTTOM AND SOMETIMES I GET LIGHT HEADED WHEN IDLING BEFORE IT STARTED TO STALL OUT. THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS MADE IN MEXICO AND SEEMS TO BE CHEAPLY MADE BECAUSE THE TRIM DOESN'T EVEN DISPLAY THE VERSA S JUST VERSA ASIDE FROM THAT IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING IT THE PASSENGER DOOR LOCK NO LONGER WORKS NEITHER DOES THE TRUNK. YOU CAN HEAR THE WIND THRU THE DOORS WHILE DRIVING AND THE FLOOR SEEMS POORLY INSULATED FROM HEAT. THE BLOWER MOTOR ISN'T BLOWING THE AC OUT AS HARD AS IT WAS. WHEN ACCELERATING POPS ARE HEARD COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR WHICH I DON'T KNOW THE SOURCE BUT I DO KNOW IT CAN'T BE GOOD. THIS VEHICLE IS MY MOTHER'S BUT I DRIVE IT A LOT AND THIS IS ONLY MY HALF OF THE EXPERIENCE. I HONESTLY THINK SHE GOT SCAMMED BECAUSE THIS 2017 CAR DOESN'T HAVE ELECTRIC SEATS, DOOR LOCKS OR WINDOWS AND DOESNT EVEN HAVE A KEY FOB OR ALARM.

  • Summary: THE AC OK MY CAR KEEPS GOING OUT. THIS YEAR IT WAS SO BAD THAT IF I HAD ACCIDENTALLY TURNED IT ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING THAT THE CAR WOULD COMPLETELY STOP AND I COULD BE DANGEROUSLY HURT WHILE DRIVING. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP ALSO. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY WOULDN'T EVEN LET ME TALK TO ANYONE THAT COULD POSSIBLY HELP. THE VEHICLE INITIALLY TURNED OFF WHEN I WAS MAKING A UTURN AFTER LEAVING WORK SO I PARKED IT SO I WOULDN'T BE STRANDED OR BLACK TRAFFIC. *TR

2017 Nissan Versa recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2017 Nissan Versa.

2018-08-21
  • Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION

In these models, over time, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position to the accessory position, turning off the engine.
  • Consequence: If the vehicle stalls, it can increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the production information on the ignition switch, and replace it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2018. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation", and number 214, "Side Impact Protection."
  • Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating side curtain air bag deployment, if the side curtain air bags do not deploy as intended there would be an increased risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left and right side curtain air bags, free of charge. The recall began on December 2, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Negative 2017 Nissan Versa car reviews

  1. Mckenzie Runolfsdottir 2024-11-29

Great fuel mileage, but unfortunately I would not buy again due to multiple expensive repair issues.

  2. Stephen Osinski 2024-11-28

I drove this car for 75,000 miles without any major issues until the CVT transmission needed to be completely repaired. Although this came as a surprise, I was fortunate enough to be eligible for partial reimbursement for the repair. Other than the transmission, I haven't had to do any unusual repairs for its age. While it may not have much power, it's a great city car for its price. Just keep in mind that there is a potential for a $5000 transmission replacement. With proper care, this car should serve you well. However, I must update my review and say that I regret buying this car due to the transmission issues that are common in this generation of Nissans. The repairs have far exceeded the value of the car and the display for the radio doesn't work under any amount of heat. It struggles to go up hills and accelerate, but it does have good gas mileage. Overall, I would advise against purchasing this car.

  3. Reagan Brakus 2024-11-25

I have three Nissan Versas parked in my driveway, including my neighbor's. I noticed that the rear bumper appeared to be supported by clips. Unfortunately, I backed into a curb with very little impact and the right rear bumper's clips separated. This happened to my 2015 Versa. My housemate also experienced a similar issue with the front bumper when the clips separated after a slow-motion impact, although the other car had no damage. I was surprised to find out that my insurance bill was $2300. Do they put these cars together with tiny clips and a touch of glue? This experience has left me feeling disappointed, and I am hesitant to purchase another Nissan in the future. Sincerely, Jerry Seckeler from Winter Springs, FL.

  4. Emerald Feeney 2024-10-27

This car is a great value for its price, although it may not be the most exciting option out there. While the acceleration may not be the best, it's important to note that I'm used to driving a car with a turbo engine, so it may be perfectly fine for someone who is not used to a faster car. The steering may take some getting used to, as it is not as responsive as I am used to, but it is still manageable. The brakes are very responsive and reliable. The interior is spacious and comfortable, although the model I had did not come with a backup camera or touch screen display, which was a bit disappointing. However, the audio system was quite impressive. Overall, this car is a great choice for anyone looking for a reliable and affordable option. However, if you're looking for something with more performance, you may want to consider other options.

  5. Brendon Becker 2024-10-24

The CVT transmission takes a bit of time to get up to speed, so if you need to get on the freeway, take a deep breath and stay calm. Unfortunately, the dealership added some extra features that were not explained to me by the salesperson (Nissan of Vacaville). Although they were supposed to make some additions, it has been almost a month and I have had to contact them a few times. However, they have assured me that they will get back to me soon. On the bright side, the Versa gets great gas mileage and handles turns really well. While the trunk has plenty of cargo space, the glove box is a bit small and there is no console. There are cup holders in the center and doors, but larger beverages may be a bit of a tight fit.

Positive 2017 Nissan Versa car reviews

  1. Gideon Graham 2024-09-10

Overall, it's a great starter car for credit repair. It's light on the road, especially on windy days. I added 120lbs in my trunk, which gave it stability. Other than that, I love my 2016 Versa Sedan. But my next car will be a Nissan Sentra, only because I'm moving up. Or maybe I will stay with the Versa...

  2. Earl Rice 2024-09-03

My Versa is a base model, 5 speed stick and I already love it! How could I not with the amazing mileage I'm getting? It's surprisingly comfortable for a small car. The only thing I would mention is that there is a bit more engine noise compared to a luxury car, but I knew this before I bought it and it really isn't a problem. Overall, I'm thrilled with my base model Versa - it's comfortable, economical, and perfect for me!

  3. Regan Walter 2024-08-27

I bought my 2016 Versa in 2018 with around 50,000 miles and drove it to almost 150,000 miles in 3.5 years. The only repairs I had, aside from regular maintenance, were replacing a ball bearing on one tire at around 110,000 miles and replacing the stock battery at around 120,000 miles. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for good mileage and reliability. It was easy to park and I averaged 39 miles per gallon. Oil changes were a little bit of a hassle due to the oil filter placement on the vehicle, but overall not too bad. I changed my oil every around 10,000 miles with full synthetic and had no issues with how the car functioned. I only got rid of it because I was tired of dealing with the bureaucracy and absolute nonsense of trying to get my title back from the state of Kansas (the Kansas TR-42 form is a nightmare). I loved my Nissan! Although driving it in high winds was a little rough, since the car weighs like 10lbs.

  4. Olin Ferry 2024-06-18

I purchased my Versa in August 2017 and have driven it for almost 5 years, covering 35,500 miles. It is a great little car that offers good value for money. While the engine can be loud at interstate speeds, the car's fuel economy and affordability more than make up for it. The only area for improvement is the air conditioning, which struggles to keep the car cool during the hot Mid Atlantic summers, despite having tinted windows all around. Overall, I am confident in recommending the 5-speed S model Versa.

  5. Jaiden Streich 2024-05-04

We really enjoyed the car! Unfortunately, we had a bit of trouble with the dealer not honoring the certificate at San Bernardino Nissan because we weren't financing. Thankfully, Pete was able to arrange everything and we were able to get the car in the end.
