2005 Nissan Titan problems
The Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck manufactured in the United States for the North American market by Nissan. It was named after the Titans of Greek mythology.
First generation (A60; 2003)
Development of the Titan began in September 1999, with design work under Diane Allen. Giovanny Arroba's TA60 exterior was chosen in late 2000, with a final production freeze in July 2001. The design language of the future truck was previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, which had previously developed through November 2000.
Production began on September 21, 2003, and sales on December 1, 2003. The Titan used Nissan's new full-size F-Alpha platform. This new platform was shared with the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, with all three manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The first generation Titan continued without a major redesign through 2015.

Common 2005 Nissan Titan problems
The Nissan Titan, a full-size pickup truck introduced in 2004, has been praised for its powerful 5.6-liter V8 engine and solid transmission. However, the first generation of the Titan, covering model years 2004 to 2015, has had its fair share of issues, as reported by owners
. Here are some of the most common problems with the 2005 Nissan Titan, based on owner complaints:
- Coolant mixing with transmission fluid: The radiator, which contains a transmission cooler, can crack internally, causing coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. This can lead to a lack of power, poor shifting, and overheating. The only solution for this issue on the first generation Titan is to replace the seals repeatedly .
- Rear axle seal leaks: The rear differential can build up pressure, causing axle seals to leak. This problem is common in the 2006 Titan, with owners reporting constant seal replacements. The root cause of this issue is the lack of a vent or pressure release mechanism in the differential .
- Differential failures: The rear differential can fail, leading to expensive repairs. This issue has been reported in the 2004 and 2005 Titan models.
- Exhaust manifold cracks: The exhaust manifolds can crack, leading to potential exhaust leaks and reduced performance. This issue has been reported in the 2004 Titan.
- Interior trim issues: The interior of the Titan can suffer from various cosmetic issues, such as chipped paint on dials, worn-out paint on hand controls, broken handles, and exterior toolboxes that can become damaged due to road salt and sand .
- Antifreeze and transmission fluid mixing: In some cases, antifreeze can mix with transmission fluid, causing problems with the transmission. This issue has been reported in the 2005 Titan.
These common problems with the 2005 Nissan Titan are based on owner complaints and should be considered when purchasing a used Titan from this generation. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and address these issues before they become major problems.

Is a 2005 Nissan Titan a good truck?
While you could complain about interior quality, you can't complain about the drivetrain. There's only one engine offered in the Titan, and it's a good one: an all-aluminum 5.6-liter V8 good for 305 horsepower. Maximum towing capacity is an excellent 9,500 pounds for the King Cab and 9,400 pounds for the Crew Cab.
Do Nissan Titans have transmission problems?
These are two common Nissan Titan transmission problems, and they're caused by two separate issues. 1: Slipping on the 4-5 shift is typically caused by a failed solenoid, worn transmission bands, or using the wrong type of ATF. 2: Harsh 2-3 shifts are usually the result of a worn clutch pack.

Gas was put in the truck and it started right up. The mechanic informed me of a recall on the 2005 nissan titans that matched what was happening to my truck. When I informed nissan they told me there is a recall but that my vin number is not included in the recall. I have had the same incident where the truck just shut off 2 more times now and this should be covered by the nissan recall since this is the exact problem that is happening to my truck that is stated in the recall and my truck is the exact year. 2005 Nissan Titan recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2005 Nissan Titan.
- Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2006 ARMADA, TITAN, INFINITI QX56 AND MODEL YEAR 2005-2006 FRONTIER, PATHFINDER AND XTERRA VEHICLES. THE INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM) ASSEMBLY CONTAINS AN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) RELAY THAT HAS A DIODE FOR ELECTRICAL CURRENT NOISE REDUCTION. THE ECM RELAY MAY ALLOW SILICON VAPOR TO FORM AND, OVER TIME, THE SILICON EVAPORATES FROM THE DIODE MOLDING WHICH CAUSES SILICON OXIDE TO DEVELOP ON THE ECM RELAY CONTACT DUE TO ARCING.
- Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE ENGINE STALLING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ECM RELAY INSIDE THE IPDM ASSEMBLY. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 6, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

A WIRE MAY HAVE BEEN PLACED IN AN INCORRECT POSITION IN THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR HOUSING. THIS RESULTS IN AN INCORRECT ROUTING OF WIRES BETWEEN THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER AND THE TOWING VEHICLE WIRING SYSTEM.
- Consequence: THIS HARNESS WOULD RESULT IN POWER FROM THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER GOING TO THE TOWING VEHICLE DASH LIGHT CIRCUIT RATHER THAN THE TRAILER BRAKES. THIS RESULT WOULD BE THE LACK OF TRAILER BRAKING WHEN THE TOWING VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IT WOULD ALSO RESULT IN THE TOWING VEHICLES DASH LIGHTS BEING ACTIVATED WHEN THE VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE FAILURE OF THE APPLICATION OF THE TRAILER BRAKE COULD RESULT IN REDUCED ABILITY TO STOP AND CONTRIBUTE TO A POSSIBLE CRASH.
- Remedy: HOPKINS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE ORIGINAL HARNESS WITH A REVISED HARNESS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN AUGUST 17, 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT HOPKINS AT 800-835-0129.
- Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: ON CERTAIN KING CAB TRUCKS, THE WIRES IN THE HARNESS WERE ROUTED THROUGH THE REAR DOORS AND INTO THE BODY. THESE WIRES MAY BREAK DUE TO OVER BENDING OF THE HARNESS AS THE DOOR IS OPENED AND CLOSED. THE HARNESS CONTAINS WIRES FOR THE DRIVER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER AND FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WHICH IS PART OF THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM. WIRES FOR THE REAR AUDIO SPEAKERS ARE ALSO CONTAINED N THE HARNESS.
- Consequence: IF THE WIRES FOR THE SEAT BELTS AND SPEAKER WIRES BREAK AND MAKE CONTACT, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE PRETENSIONER MAY DEPLOY. IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE SEAT BELT IS RETRACTED, IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO USE THE SEAT BELT. IF ONE OF THE WIRES ON THE RIGHT SIDE HARNESS FOR THE SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR BREAKS, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY AS DESIGNED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH AND PERSONAL INJURY.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WIRE HARNESS COVER WITH A DIFFERENT TYPE THAT PREVENTS OVER BENDING OF THE HARNESS AND THE HARNESS WILL BE REROUTED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 19, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

I've owned Chevy, Ford, Dodge, and Jeep pickups, and I tried them all again before buying my Titan. I'm getting older, so I appreciate the comfort, and this pickup is very comfortable. My wife feels safe in it, too. After a really bad accident in a half-size pickup, I decided once again for a full-size. I knew it wouldn't have good mileage, but this truck is terrific. It has no mechanical issues, looks great, runs fantastic, and Nissan maintenance is great. Brakes and tires wear out, so no issues for me there. It tows like a dream. The only drawback is the front columns on either side of the windshield take some getting used to looking around it. I have no complaints, and I wish I had enough miles on it to justify buying another. :)

I recently traded in my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 with a Hemi engine. I loved that truck and thought no other truck could replace it. However, I have found that the Nissan Titan has more low end power than the Dodge Hemi.

Your Nissan 4x4 Titan sounds like an amazing truck! It's great to hear that you've had such a positive experience with it. The compliments you receive on it must make you feel proud. It's impressive that the Titan performs well both on and off the road, and that switching to 4 wheel drive is easy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your truck!

I purchased my Titan in 04 and have put about 1500 miles on it. I wanted to share a few comments that a potential buyer might find helpful. The performance of this truck is fantastic! It's very quick and handles well. While the steering does require a bit more power to turn than my previous Ford or Chevy trucks, it's still very manageable. The brakes do tend to dirty up the front wheels with black dust, but that's to be expected. Unfortunately, I do have a rattle in the dash. As for gas mileage, it's about what I expected - around 12 in town and 15-16 on the highway. The exhaust noise is barely noticeable on the highway. While the radio quality on FM is poor, the CD player sounds great. One minor issue is that the radio light reflects on the rear glass through the rearview mirror. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend the Titan to anyone in the market for a new truck.

I'm so glad I purchased this truck at a year-end clearance price! This is actually my fourth Nissan, and I have to say, it's my favorite so far. I've owned an 89 Pathfinder, 02 Frontier, and 03 Pathfinder, but the Titan really stands out. Even though I was a little intimidated at first, as soon as I test drove it, I fell in love. The power-adjustable pedals, backup assist warning, utility track in the bed, and storage compartments everywhere make it so convenient. Plus, there's plenty of interior room, and it handles like a luxury SUV! The only downside is that the gas mileage isn't great, but I love driving this truck so much that I'm willing to put up with it. It would be nice if step rails were standard, though.

Despite having a few fancy features such as navigation, DVD, and a sunroof, it had to be taken to the dealership six times and was out of service for almost 60 days due to minor issues such as the stereo, tire pressure monitoring system, and auto up/down window controls. While the base models are priced competitively, Nissan still has room for improvement in their truck manufacturing. Perhaps in a few years, they will have caught up to the likes of Toyota and Ford.

I have owned several trucks since 1972, but unfortunately, this particular truck has been quite problematic. In the 42,000 miles that I have driven it, I have had to deal with a number of expensive issues. The doors froze shut, which required a $650.00 kit to fix both doors, and there was no warranty. The rear seals leaked at 18,000 miles, but thankfully, it was covered by the warranty. The power steering lines needed to be replaced at 25,000 miles, but there was no warranty. At 36,000 miles, both the rear seals and rear axle needed to be replaced, and only the cost of the axle was covered, which was $900.00. The soaked brakes were shot and needed to be replaced, which cost $600, and there was no warranty. The front brakes were replaced at 40,000 miles, which cost $700, and there was no warranty. Whenever I go for an oil change, I know that it will cost me a minimum of $500, as they always seem to find something else that needs fixing. Despite these issues, I remain confident in my ability to handle any challenges that may arise with this truck.

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my truck, which has been a reliable vehicle for me until last summer when it reached about 70,000 miles. Unfortunately, I encountered some issues with the rear differential seals leaking oil onto the brake rotors, which affected the braking performance. Additionally, the fan motor and front differential drive shaft broke, and there is some rusting on the vehicle. I am currently addressing some slipping issues with the transmission, but I think it may be time for me to consider purchasing a new vehicle that will last me for at least 150,000 miles. Thank you for your time and attention.

I've owned the truck for a year now. I really enjoyed it for the first 3000 miles, but then I started having brake problems. I had to replace the rotors and pads three times in total - once at 3000 miles, then again at 5000 miles, and then again at 3000 miles. It seems like there might be a pattern here. After doing some research, I found out that the 04 and 05 models have smaller brakes than their competitors. I'm not sure if getting new vented rotors and redesigned pads will solve the problem. What do you think?

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my Nissan Titan. While I have enjoyed driving it, I have had some concerns with the brakes. Unfortunately, the rotors on my Titan had to be resurfaced twice, once at 4500 miles and again at 10,000 miles. Despite my efforts to address this issue with Nissan, I have not received a satisfactory response. As you can imagine, this is a serious safety concern that I hope Nissan will take seriously and address soon.
