2006 Nissan Titan problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck manufactured in the United States for the North American market by Nissan. It was named after the Titans of Greek mythology.

First generation (A60; 2003)

Development of the Titan began in September 1999, with design work under Diane Allen. Giovanny Arroba's TA60 exterior was chosen in late 2000, with a final production freeze in July 2001. The design language of the future truck was previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, which had previously developed through November 2000.

Production began on September 21, 2003, and sales on December 1, 2003. The Titan used Nissan's new full-size F-Alpha platform. This new platform was shared with the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, with all three manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The first generation Titan continued without a major redesign through 2015.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-04-08
  • VIN: 1N6BA07A56N
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: These units are being sold at various retailers and deceptively marketed. I purchased one with the warning label defaced. The listing stated it was a bStock item due to cosmetic damage otherwise fully functional. It was only after receiving it did I find the truth of the 2 NHTSA recalls in 2019. https://bigjeffaudio.com/products/open-box-ioxus-12v-group-31-smart-power-bluetooth-car-audio-ultra-capacitor After I brought it to their attention and a little convincing, did they add the disclaimer at the bottom of the listing. To be transparent I purchased the same item, through that specific vendor on eBay. I did capture the listing before they added the disclaimer. Ultimately they refunded the purchase and I sent the item back. The photos explicitly omit the "warning" that has large print ultracapacitor and small print, "follow this link to the the actual warning" Going further the manufacturer went as far as to post a video of an employee throwing the battery, showing that it is completely safe and instructs the viewer to hit up a distributor and go buy one now. I have captured that as well https://youtu.be/-EMm-z_WcPY As I understand it these have been sold for over a year. Big Jeff audio just added a disclaimer. It is one thing to inform the customer and quite another to sell to an unsuspecting person.

2006 Nissan Titan recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 7 recalls for different components of the 2006 Nissan Titan.

2010-10-28
  • Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
  • Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2006 ARMADA, TITAN, INFINITI QX56 AND MODEL YEAR 2005-2006 FRONTIER, PATHFINDER AND XTERRA VEHICLES. THE INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM) ASSEMBLY CONTAINS AN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) RELAY THAT HAS A DIODE FOR ELECTRICAL CURRENT NOISE REDUCTION. THE ECM RELAY MAY ALLOW SILICON VAPOR TO FORM AND, OVER TIME, THE SILICON EVAPORATES FROM THE DIODE MOLDING WHICH CAUSES SILICON OXIDE TO DEVELOP ON THE ECM RELAY CONTACT DUE TO ARCING.
  • Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE ENGINE STALLING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ECM RELAY INSIDE THE IPDM ASSEMBLY. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 6, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

THE LOWER CONTROL LINK ASSEMBLY HAS TWO CYLINDRICAL COLLARS FORMING THE INBOARD ATTACHMENT POINTS TO THE CHASSIS. DUE TO AN IMPROPER WELDING PROCESS SOME COLLARS MAY CONTAIN WELDS THAT DO NOT MEET STRENGTH SPECIFICATIONS.
  • Consequence: IF THE COLLAR WELD SEPARATES, THE VEHICLE HANDLING WILL DETERIORATE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
  • Remedy: NISSAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY AFFECTED LOWER LINK FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 12, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

  • Manufacturer: HOPKINS MANUFACTURING CORP.
  • Components: EQUIPMENT
  • Summary: CERTAIN HOPKINS AFTERMARKET TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL CONNECTION HARNESSES SOLD FOR USE ON CERTAIN MODELS OF NISSAN VEHICLES WHICH ARE LISTED ABOVE. THE INTERNAL PART NUMBERS WITHIN HOPKINS ARE: 1010476025, 1040376025, 1110476025, 1170376025, 1290376025, 1010476035, 1040376035, 1110476035, 1170376035, AND 1290376035. A WIRE MAY HAVE BEEN PLACED IN AN INCORRECT POSITION IN THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR HOUSING. THIS RESULTS IN AN INCORRECT ROUTING OF WIRES BETWEEN THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER AND THE TOWING VEHICLE WIRING SYSTEM.
  • Consequence: THIS HARNESS WOULD RESULT IN POWER FROM THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER GOING TO THE TOWING VEHICLE DASH LIGHT CIRCUIT RATHER THAN THE TRAILER BRAKES. THIS RESULT WOULD BE THE LACK OF TRAILER BRAKING WHEN THE TOWING VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IT WOULD ALSO RESULT IN THE TOWING VEHICLES DASH LIGHTS BEING ACTIVATED WHEN THE VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE FAILURE OF THE APPLICATION OF THE TRAILER BRAKE COULD RESULT IN REDUCED ABILITY TO STOP AND CONTRIBUTE TO A POSSIBLE CRASH.
  • Remedy: HOPKINS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE ORIGINAL HARNESS WITH A REVISED HARNESS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN AUGUST 17, 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT HOPKINS AT 800-835-0129.
2006-11-30
  • Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: ON CERTAIN KING CAB TRUCKS, THE WIRES IN THE HARNESS WERE ROUTED THROUGH THE REAR DOORS AND INTO THE BODY. THESE WIRES MAY BREAK DUE TO OVER BENDING OF THE HARNESS AS THE DOOR IS OPENED AND CLOSED. THE HARNESS CONTAINS WIRES FOR THE DRIVER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER AND FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WHICH IS PART OF THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM. WIRES FOR THE REAR AUDIO SPEAKERS ARE ALSO CONTAINED N THE HARNESS.
  • Consequence: IF THE WIRES FOR THE SEAT BELTS AND SPEAKER WIRES BREAK AND MAKE CONTACT, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE PRETENSIONER MAY DEPLOY. IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE SEAT BELT IS RETRACTED, IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO USE THE SEAT BELT. IF ONE OF THE WIRES ON THE RIGHT SIDE HARNESS FOR THE SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR BREAKS, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY AS DESIGNED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH AND PERSONAL INJURY.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WIRE HARNESS COVER WITH A DIFFERENT TYPE THAT PREVENTS OVER BENDING OF THE HARNESS AND THE HARNESS WILL BE REROUTED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 19, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
2006-03-08
  • Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
  • Components: LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH
  • Summary: CERTAIN LIGHT TRUCKS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 206, "DOOR LOCKS AND DOOR RETENTION COMPONENTS." AN ARC WELD IS MISSING ON SOME RIGHT SIDE REAR DOOR UPPER LATCH ASSEMBLIES.
  • Consequence: THIS MAY RESULT IN THE RIGHT SIDE DOORS COMING PARTIALLY OPEN INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO OCCUPANTS.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE UPPER LATCH ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 3, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 800-662-6200.

Negative 2006 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Maximillian Wintheiser 2024-06-26

I bought my truck back in April 2006 and it's been a bit of a love/hate relationship ever since. However, I must say that I really admire its power, towing and off-road capability, especially for an '06 Titan. The cab is spacious and the seats are supportive enough to keep me comfortable even on long drives of over 300 miles. Although the materials used inside the truck have a cheap look and feel, the Fosgate sound system is great. Unfortunately, there are a few things that I dislike about the truck. For instance, the factory tires wore out after just one season, and all brake components were worn out after only 10000 miles. Additionally, I can't replace relay switches singly, which means that I have to replace the entire integrated power distribution module. Lastly, the alternator burned out at 28000 miles and some stitching is coming undone on the bucket seat.

The reason we decided to purchase this truck was due to its impressive looks and towing capabilities, as well as the comparisons made to Ford and Toyota. However, we have unfortunately experienced some issues with the vehicle. The gas mileage is quite low, at only 9mpg city and 11mpg hwy. Additionally, we have had some problems with the airbag light and the radio, which have been frustrating. We have also found that some components under the hood, such as the fuse box, are difficult to access. Furthermore, the weight of the truck when towing can affect the ride quality. Overall, we would not recommend this truck for the price.

I have a 2006 Nissan Titan LE crew cab and it has been absolutely fantastic to me. Even with 250k miles on it, I still use it every day and it never lets me down. I even tow my 26ft camper with it and it handles it with ease. When I buy a brand new truck next year, I'm torn between choosing a Titan or an F-150.

This truck is awesome! It's reliable and very comfortable. It's a tough truck that can handle anything. I was pleasantly surprised by its fuel economy - I got 26 miles to the gallon on the highway, even though it was only supposed to get 20. It's great on gas and built like the old pickup trucks. Nissan is really making a push to be at the top of the truck market.

The windshield seems to be a major issue. The wipers struggle to keep up with snow and ice, and they tend to rip on icy windshields. Additionally, the defroster appears to be too small for the size of the windshield, making it difficult to keep the ice off. Another issue is that only the driver's side has a door key lock, which can be problematic when there is a sheet of ice over the door. All the door windows seem to take in water and/or ice and freeze, which can lead to rusting from the inside out. Lastly, there are metal air valve stems on the tires, which tend to break. Despite these issues, the mileage is not what is claimed.

This truck is really cool and super strong. It can definitely outperform the new Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and Toyota trucks, especially the 2010 domestics. My truck has a D.F. 10 single chamber racing muffler that adds 23 horsepower and 11 ft.lbs of torque. The paint job is pristine and the workmanship is top-notch. Overall, this truck is truly impressive.

I'm glad to hear that you've had your Titan for over a year now and have been impressed with its performance. It's great to know that you haven't had any maintenance issues and that the truck has been reliable. The comfortable seats and good visibility, along with the well-designed dash layout, make for a pleasant driving experience. The engine and transmission combination is also impressive, although the exhaust can be a bit loud at times. It's good to hear that you hardly notice the boat and utility trailers you tow, except for slower acceleration. While the fuel consumption may not be the best, it's comparable to others in its class, especially considering the power and weight of the vehicle. I also appreciate the thoughtful features like the tie downs in the truck bed, the storage pocket behind the left rear wheel, and the rear seat arrangement. It sounds like you made a great choice in trading in your F-150 for the Titan.
