1993 Nissan Quest problems
The Nissan Quest is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Nissan for model years 1993–2017 over four generations.
The first two generations (internally designated V40 and V41) of the Quest were short-wheelbase models co-developed and manufactured with Ford, aside its badge engineered Mercury Villager. For model year 2004 and the third generation (V42), Nissan ended its joint venture with Ford, manufacturing the Quest on its own. For model year 2011, the fourth generation (RE52) became a widened variant of the Nissan Elgrand minivan and was now manufactured in Japan. For the preceding generations, the Quest loosely shared its chassis and powertrain with the Nissan Maxima.
Following the decline of minivan sales in North America, Nissan ended sales of the Quest after the 2017 model year.

- Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY
- Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINIVANS. THE FUEL TANK VENT HOSE ALLOWS AIR TO VENT FROM THE FUEL TANK DURING REFUELING. CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED IN THE VENT HOSE. IF (1) THE FUEL TANK IS OVERFILLED, NOT ALLOWING EXCESS FUEL IN THE VENT HOSE TO FLOW BACK INTO THE TANK, (2) THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN ONLY A SHORT DISTANCE AFTER REFUELING AND, (3) THERE IS SUBSEQUENTLY SIGNIFICANT HEATING OF THE FUEL TANK, THE FUEL IN THE TANK CAN EXPAND INTO THE VENT HOSE AND LEAK FUEL.
- Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE VENT HOSE.
- Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM
- Summary: LEAVES AND OTHER FOREIGN MATERIAL CAN ENTER THROUGH THE COWL PANEL AIR INTAKE DURING OPERATION OF THE FRONT HEATER AND/OR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM RESULTING IN A BUILD-UP OF MATERIAL IN THE PLENUM. THIS CAN LEAD TO NOISE, ODORS, OR IN SOME CASES, IGNITION OF THESE MATERIALS.
- Consequence: A VEHICLE FIRE COULD OCCUR.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL HEATER/AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM INTAKE SCREEN.
- Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
- Summary: FUEL FILLER HOSES MAY HAVE BEEN CUT PRIOR TO INSTALLATION BY A UTILITY KNIFE USED TO OPEN THE SHIPPING BOX.

- Remedy: REPLACE THE FUEL FILLER HOSE.
- Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER
- Summary: THE SERVICE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WAS NOT PROPERLY ASSEMBLED OR COULD HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY THE EVACUATION AND FILLING OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT.
- Consequence: THIS CAN RESULT IN A PARTIAL BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE DUE TOINTERNAL MASTER CYLINDER LEAKAGE WHICH CAN CAUSE LOSS OF BRAKING ON TWO OF THEFOUR WHEELS. IF THIS OCCURS, THERE WOULD BE INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL, HIGHERPEDAL EFFORTS AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES.
- Remedy: A NEW BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WILL BE INSTALLED.
- Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: ONE OR BOTH OF THE BOLTS SECURING THE AUTOMATIC SEAT BELT RESTRAINT SYSTEM TRACKS TO THE B-PILLARS WERE NOT ADEQUATELY TIGHTENED.

Congratulations on your new van! It sounds like you've already had some great experiences with it, adding 600 miles in just 3 weeks. From your description, it seems like the van is in good condition, with excellent performance and fuel economy on the highway. It's great to hear that the dash is clean and easy to read, and that the body is still in great shape. It's clear that you have a lot of love for your van, and we hope it continues to serve you well. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I had no problems with my Quest except for normal wear and tear. I've heard of them rolling in the desert and everyone being okay. From my own experience, I'm proud of how it handles in a wreck. I absolutely love this car!

You have a great car that has served you well, but unfortunately the manifold/header bolts went out around 80K. However, the dealer informed you that Nissan might be able to help and they did offer to pay almost half the cost, which was a great relief. Despite this issue, you still like the car a great deal and plan to drive it until it simply falls apart.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share our experience with the Quest. We were in need of a family van when we were expecting our third child and decided to go for the Quest. Although we are Honda fans, we can safely say that the Quest has been a great van for us. It has been very reliable and we have put 113,000 miles on it and it's still running like a charm. The only issue we've had is that the rear lights tend to go out often, but unfortunately Nissan hasn't been very helpful in that area. Overall, we are very happy with our purchase and would definitely recommend it to others!

Abe Skiles 2024-10-08
When my manifold bolts failed at 75K, the dealership informed me that it was after warranty. However, they also suggested that I should contact Nissan and express my dissatisfaction. This turned out to be helpful as Nissan covered several hundred dollars of the repair cost. Although it is disappointing that the bolts failed at such low mileage, it appears to be a common issue and could be considered a hidden recall. Apart from this, my experience with the car has been positive. I had to replace the water pump at 109K, but I also did the timing belt at the same time. The car has been running well for almost ten years now, and I hope to get another 5 years/50K out of it. Despite being exposed to lots of snow and salt, the finish has held up well.

Hi there! It's been two years since I last wrote and I'm happy to report that my car is still going strong! While there have been some minor annoyances like the antenna being stuck in the up position, one power door lock being manual only now, and the tape player being effectively dead, I'm still a big fan. Last summer, I even converted the AC and I'm planning on getting new mats this spring. It's got 128K miles on it and hasn't been garaged for the past two years in the snowy NE, but the body is still rust-free. Gotta love it!
