The Mitsubishi Outlander (Japanese: 三菱・アウトランダー, Hepburn: Mitsubishi Autorandā) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors since 2001. It was originally known as the Mitsubishi Airtrek (Japanese: 三菱・エアトレック, Hepburn: Mitsubishi Eatorekku) when it was introduced in Japan.

The original Airtrek name was chosen to "describe the vehicle's ability to transport its passengers on adventure-packed journeys in a 'free-as-a-bird' manner", and was "coined from Air and Trek to express the idea of footloose, adventure-filled motoring pleasure." The Outlander nameplate which replaced it evoked a "feeling of journeying to distant, unexplored lands in search of adventure."

The second generation of the vehicle was introduced in 2006 and all markets including Japan adopted the Outlander name, although production of the older version continued in parallel. It was built on the company's GS platform, and used various engines developed by Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, and PSA Peugeot Citroën. PSA's Citroën C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007, which were manufactured by Mitsubishi in Japan, are badge engineered versions of the second generation Outlander. Global sales achieved the 1.5 million unit milestone in October 2016, 15 years after its market launch.

As part of the third generation line-up, Mitsubishi launched in January 2013 a plug-in hybrid model called Outlander PHEV. As of January 2022, global sales totaled about 300,000 units, and according to JATO Dynamics, the Outlander PHEV is the world's all-time best selling plug-in hybrid since December 2018. As of 2019, Europe is the leading market with over 126,000 units sold through January 2019, and the Outlander plug-in hybrid listed as Europe's best-selling plug-in hybrid car for five years running, 2015 to 2019.

The fourth-generation model was released 2021. Following Mitsubishi's entry to Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, the fourth-generation Outlander is based on the Rogue/X-Trail, which is built on the CMF-CD platform.

SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-02-15
  • VIN: JA4JT5AX0AZ
  • Components: SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE
  • Summary: High Point Mitsubishi in High Point NC preformed the recall in regards to rust forming on the underside crossmember of this vehicle. Less than 3 years later this vehicle is immovable because of the exact same reason as the original recall. The technician obviously overlooked areas of which to spray the rust preventative in which caused the structural integrity to completely fail at the front mounting location of the driver side control arm onto the crossmember. This vehicle is not safe to drive any longer because of Mitsubishi's lack of thoroughness in performing and evaluating the situation and the condition of said crossmember. High Point Mitsubishi now insists that the issue was resolved even after clear pictures have been sent showing the clear damage and obvious nature of the reasoning of the recall in the first place but argue that they took care of the recall although obviously the exact issue that the recall was made for is thr reason this vehicle is no longer driveable.

  • VIN: JA4JS4AX6AZ
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: AFTER MY ABS, TCS, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON, I STARTED TO RESEARCH WHAT MY PROBLEM WAS. COME TO FIND OUT THE ABS PUMP MOTOR IS GETTING LOW VOLTAGE RESULTING IN POOR BRAKING AND OVERALL DRIVEABILITY IN ANY WEATHER. IN MY RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY MITSUBISHI'S AROUND THIS YEAR. I WAS COMPLETELY FINE WITH REPLACING THE PARTS BECAUSE THE CAR ISN'T SAFE FOR MY CHILDREN, BUT WHEN LOOKING INTO THE COST OF REPLACEMENT OF SUCH A SMALL PART, I (ALONG WITH MANY OTHER PEOPLE) CAN NOT AFFORD TO SPEND ~$2000 TO MAKE OUR CARS SAFE. IF THIS HAS TRULY BEEN A PROBLEM FOR SO LONG WHY HASN'T MITSUBISHI HANDLED IT YET. UNTIL I CAN FIND A CHEAP REPLACEMENT OR IF MITSUBISHI CARES ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY, I WILL BE DRIVING MY 2010 OUTLANDER WITH NO ABS OR TRACTION CONTROL. WHICH IS VERY UNSAFE.

I COULD FEEL PIECES OF GLASS FALL DOWN ON TOP OF ME. WHEN I LOOKED UP I COULD SEE THAT THERE WAS A SUBSTANTIAL HOLE IN MY SUNROOF AND ALL OF THE GLASS AROUND THE HOLE WAS SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION OF THE GLASS UPON STOPPING MY CAR, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE GLASS WAS BROKEN FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR WITH THE GLASS BLOWING PARTIALLY OUTWARD. THERE WAS NO OUTSIDE FORCE THAT CAUSED THIS TO OCCUR.

(Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Mitsubishi Lancer vehicles manufactured January 12, 2009, to July 6, 2010, 2009-2010 Outlander vehicles manufactured January 12, 2009, to August 27, 2010, 2010 Lancer Sportback vehicles manufactured June 17, 2009, to June 8, 2010, and 2010 Lancer Evolution vehicles manufactured July 14, 2009, to August 4, 2010. The affected vehicles have an electronic control unit (ECU) that controls the head lights, tail lights, and windshield wipers. Due to a manufacturing error, the voltage inside this ECU may be unstable.
  • Consequence: Unstable voltage could result in intermittent failure of the vehicle's head lights, tail lights, and windshield wipers. If the headlights and/or windshield wipers fail, the driver could have reduced visibility. If the tail lights fail, the vehicle could be less visible. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected ECU, free of charge. The recall began on June 15 ,2015. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-15-002.

  • Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Lancer vehicles manufactured March 16, 2009, to March 30, 2011, 2010-2011 Lancer Sportback vehicles manufactured June 17, 2009, to December 1, 2010, 2010-2011 Lancer Evolution vehicles manufactured July 14, 2009, to January 7, 2011, 2009-2011 Outlander vehicles manufactured February 10, 2009, to June 22, 2011, and 2011 Outlander Sport vehicles manufactured August 26, 2010, to November 19, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the blower motor may fail.
  • Consequence: Failure of the blower motor may reduce the performance of the windshield defroster, diminishing the driver's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace a suspect blower motor, free of charge. The recall began on June 15, 2015. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-15-003.

  • Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:BELTS AND ASSOCIATED PULLEYS
  • Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Lancer, Lancer Evolution, and Outlander; 2009-2011 Lancer Sportback, Lancer Rilliart, and Lancer Sportback Ralliart; and 2011 Outlander Sport vehicles. The affected vehicles, manufactured with 4B1 engines, have an engine pulley and belt arrangement for turning the alternator, the cooling fan and the power steering pump (if equipped). These pulleys may experience unusual wear and allow for belt detachment.
  • Consequence: If the drive belt detaches, the battery may discharge, resulting in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the drive belt with a rubber belt. Drive pulleys that are excessively worn will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 15, 2014. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-14-009.

  • Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
  • Components: STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS
  • Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2013 Outlander vehicles equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, Mitusbishi is recalling certain 2007-2012 Outlander vehicles that received replacement 6-speed automatic transmissions during servicing. The transmissions in these vehicles have insufficient clearance between the power steering pressure tube and the converter housing of the automatic transmission. As a result of the contact, the power steering pressure tube may develop a hole and leak power steering fluid.
  • Consequence: A power steering fluid leak could result in a loss of steering assistance, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the power steering pressure tube and return tube, free of charge. The recall began in August 2014. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-14-006.

Negative 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander car reviews

Hi there! I recently purchased a 2010 Outlander XLS and unfortunately, the air conditioner stopped working after just one week and five drives. I noticed there was some leaking too. I'm a bit disappointed with the quality, but I'm hoping to get it fixed soon. Thanks for listening!

I've only had this vehicle for less than 24 hours and it's already in for service. As a first-time Mit. owner, I'm a bit disappointed. I've never had this problem with other vehicles. However, the dealership did provide me with a loaner and kindly asked me to return it with the same amount of gas. It's a bit inconvenient to have to check in my brand new SUV for 3-5 days for service, but I appreciate the dealership's effort to provide me with a loaner. Overall, my first impression is not too good, but I still believe that the value of the vehicle is good. I hope that this is not the type of experience that I will have in the future.

Positive 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander car reviews

This is my first SUV and I had a tough time deciding between the Outlander and the Subaru Forester. They were both very close in comparison. However, what put me over was the Outlander's better pick up (4 cyl) compared to the Subaru. Although the seats are more comfortable on the Subaru (why do car makers not add lumbar support for all their cars?), I prefer the Outlander's tighter steering. Pound for pound, I feel the Outlander is a great car! I have not been disappointed so far. If you are considering a small SUV, I highly recommend checking out the Outlander and not ruling it out.

I love this car, but it struggles with potholes and dips on the road. Whenever it hits one, it makes a banging noise like metal on metal. I took it to the dealer, but they said nothing was wrong with it. I've owned many cars and never heard a sound like that. One day, I was on the expressway, and the car in front of me jammed on their brakes, so I did too, and it made the same bang noise. I wish I could fix it because it would be the perfect CUV.

I did some thorough research on this highly competitive market and found many good options, but none that offered better value when considering everything. The MSRP is $24,705, the invoice price is $23,333, and the sale price is $22,199. I also received the full Blue Book Trade-In Value for my old car. Additionally, I was able to take advantage of 0% financing for 36 months. Lastly, the car comes with a 5-year bumper-to-bumper warranty, 5-year roadside assistance, and a 10-year powertrain warranty. It's worth noting that Mitsubishi's don't hold their value as well as some other brands, so it's something to keep in mind if you plan on selling or trading in the car after a few years with low mileage.

Hi there! I can tell you really love your 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander, and I completely understand why! It's always tough to say goodbye to a car that has been so reliable and has served you so well. However, I think it's great that you're considering trading it in due to its age and high mileage. You were so lucky to have that 10 year/100k mile warranty, and it's amazing that the transmission was replaced at no charge when it failed at 67k miles. Overall, it sounds like you've had a great experience with your Outlander and I'm sure you'll find another car that you'll love just as much!

  5. Kris Simonis 2024-10-14

I'm so glad to hear that you purchased a XLS V6 Outlander! It sounds like you're really enjoying it so far, even with only 500 miles on it. The technology in this car sounds amazing, with features like Rain Sensing Wipers, Keyless entry/starting, and subscription-free traffic service. It's great that you and your family decided to go for something different than the typical Rav4 or Cr-v, and the Outlander definitely has a unique and stylish look to it. Plus, with its powerful performance, it's sure to turn heads on the road!
