The Mitsubishi Outlander (Japanese: 三菱・アウトランダー, Hepburn: Mitsubishi Autorandā) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors since 2001. The second generation of the vehicle was introduced in 2006 and all markets including Japan adopted the Outlander name, although production of the older version continued in parallel. It was built on the company's GS platform, and used various engines developed by Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, and PSA Peugeot Citroën. PSA's Citroën C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007, which were manufactured by Mitsubishi in Japan, are badge engineered versions of the second generation Outlander. Global sales achieved the 1.5 million unit milestone in October 2016, 15 years after its market launch.
As part of the third generation line-up, Mitsubishi launched in January 2013 a plug-in hybrid model called Outlander PHEV. As of January 2022, global sales totaled about 300,000 units, and according to JATO Dynamics, the Outlander PHEV is the world's all-time best selling plug-in hybrid since December 2018. As of 2019, Europe is the leading market with over 126,000 units sold through January 2019, and the Outlander plug-in hybrid listed as Europe's best-selling plug-in hybrid car for five years running, 2015 to 2019.
The fourth-generation model was released 2021. Following Mitsubishi's entry to Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, the fourth-generation Outlander is based on the Rogue/X-Trail, which is built on the CMF-CD platform.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the drive belt was cracked on the ribs of the belt, the sway bar links, and front and rear CV boots were torn, the tie rod end replacement boots were torn, and the lower front and lower control arms, ball joints, and rear bushings were torn, the motor mount front bushings had started to tear, motor mount was torn, and the shock absorbers needed to be replaced due to rear shocks leaking and that all the listed parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 134,148.

How is that possible and it's falling apart. The dealership it was taken to was South Suburban in Matteson, IL. THE POLICE FOUND MY VEHICLE AFTER IT HAD ROLLED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, INTO TRAFFIC AND ENDED UP CRASHING IN A DITCH. IT HAD TO BE HAULED OUT AND SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND MAY BE A TOTAL LOSS. I CAN ONLY BE GRATEFUL THAT IT DID NOT COLLIDE INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE,L OR HIT A PEDESTRIAN. THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE EASILY KILLED SOMEONE. THERE IS NO LOGICAL REASON THAT A SAFETY MECHANISM SHOULD NOT BE A STANDARD REQUIREMENT IN ALL PUSH BUTTON START VEHICLES TO PREVENT SUCH A TRAGEDY. THE CAR RENTAL I AM CURRENTLY USING IS A 2019 ESCALADE. I TESTED THE REMOTE START IN THE ESCALADE AND NO MATTER WHAT GEAR I AM IN WHEN I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, IT AUTOMATICALLY DEFAULTS TO PARK. LATER DOWN THE ROAD MONTHS LATER I RECHECK AND MY YEAR NEWLY BECAME SKIPPED FOR THIS TRANSMISSION RECALLS. I BELIEVE THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE REASON FOR YOUR RECALL. CAN YOU DO THE RIGHT BY THE CAR I BOUGHT FROM YOU FOLKS AND REPLACE THE FAULTY TRANSMISSION THAT WAS PUT IN MY CAR? YOU: I HAVE A 2012 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. I BROKE DOWN ON THE INTERSTATE AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE MITSUBISHI DEALER AND THEIR SERVICE DEPT SAID MY TRANSMISSION IS SHOT DUE TO A SECONDARY CODE THAT THE CVT HAS NON OPERATIONAL PRESSURE WITH AN INTERNAL WEAK OIL PUMP WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE. AND IT WOULD BE 7,500$ JUST FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION AND AN ADDITIONAL 800$ TO PUT IT IN. I BELIEVE THERE WAS A RECALL SKIPPING MY YEAR CAR BEING A 2012 OUTLANDER. I BOUGHT IT NEW AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD DIFFERENT PROBLEMS WITH IT. ONE OF WHICH BACK IN 2016 THE PINION SEAL FOR THE TRANSFER CASE WAS FAULTY AND IT TOOK ME TO DEMAND CHECKING WHY I WAS GETTING A LEAK OF OIL LEFT ON MY CLEAN GARAGE FLOOR. I BRING THAT UP AS TO COULD THIS BE ONE OF THE CAUSES OF TRANSMISSION FAILURE? I DID HAVE IT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY WHICH NEVER WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I DIDN'T NOTICE THE LEAK MYSELF. WHILE I AM AT IT MY HEAT AND AC HAVE BEEN BARELY BEEN ACCEPTABLE FOR KEEPING US WARM IN THE COLD WINTERS HERE AND AC NOT PERFORMING VERY WELL EITHER. - Summary: TRANSMISSION/ENGINE MAKES A HIGH PITCHED WHINING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING ABOVE 2000 RPMS CURRENTLY. IT STARTED OUT ONLY DOING IT WHEN GOING UP HILL AT HIGHER RPMS BUT HAS GOTTEN WORSE. IT HAS ALSO AFFECTED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND HAD THE LOCKS, BACKUP CAMERA, REVERSE LIGHTS ALL GOING HAYWIRE. THIS WAS WITNESSED BY MY OIL SHOP WHILE GETTING AN OIL CHANGE ON IT THE MECHANIC COULDNT GET THE VEHICLE FROM DRIVE TO PARK AMD ONCE IT DID GO IT WOULD UNLOCK FROM PARK. I WAS TOLD IT WAS SENSORS BY A MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP BUT THAT DIDNT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT REVS THE ENGINE IT HIGH TPMS WHILE DRIVING NOT LETTINGNIT SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND MAKES IT SO YOU CANT GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION SHUTS DOWN. EVEN IN NEUTRAL THE RPMSWILL INCREASE WHEN IT DOES THIS. THIS IS A SAFTEY ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE/TRANSMISSION IF YOU GET STUCK IN A HIGH TRAFFIC AREA AND CAN NOT GET TO A SAFE PULLOFF. IVE HAD MY KIDS IN THE CAR WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED AND THE DEALERSHIPS (ALL 3 OF THEM) CA NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD TO MISS WORK FOR THESE APPOINTMENTS AND NOW THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED AS I BOUGHT IT USED AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE AND BEING THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND SEEING OTHERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME THINGS WITH THERE VEHICLES IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND CORRECTED. The drive belt automatic tensioner flange may crack, allowing the accessory drive belt to detach.
- Consequence: If the drive belt detaches, the battery will discharge and the engine will stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

The water may cause internal corrosion of the windshield wiper motor and the possible failure of the motor.
- Consequence: Failure of the wiper motor can cause a loss of visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

In the affected vehicles, water may enter between the hood and windshield and cause the front wiper link ball joint to corrode, possibly resulting in the wiper link separating and the wipers becoming inoperative.
- Consequence: Loss of wiper function can reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rubber boot on the ball joint to prevent water intrusion. Additionally, they will inspect the wiper motor crank arm for excessive play, replacing it as necessary. These repairs will be done free of charge. The recall began on July 28, 2017. The transmissions in these vehicles have insufficient clearance between the power steering pressure tube and the converter housing of the automatic transmission. As a result of the contact, the power steering pressure tube may develop a hole and leak power steering fluid.
- Consequence: A power steering fluid leak could result in a loss of steering assistance, increasing the risk of a crash.

I bought my GT in August 2011 without a sunroof or navigation. I was drawn to this fantastic SUV because of its reputation for reliability, awesome S-AWC system, great ergonomics, and powerful V6 engine. I've owned American, Japanese, and German brands in the past, but this time Mitsubishi really impressed me with their excellent warranty and standard features. I've already driven 4000 miles and the fuel economy is great for an SUV of this size, averaging 23mpg. The driving experience is very predictable and sporty, and the xenon headlights are incredible! I feel like I have the headlights of a rally car!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my girlfriend's recent car purchase with you. She traded in her 2009 Lancer GT for a 2011 Outlander 4cyl AWD. We absolutely loved her Lancer and the service we received from Mitsubishi was always fantastic. However, we recently moved to an area where we needed a 4x4, so we started looking at different options from Hyundai, Nissan, Jeep, and more. After careful consideration, we decided on the Outlander! We went with the 4cyl because we didn't need the power or fuel consumption of the V6. We're really happy with our choice so far, as we're averaging 23mpg city and 28mpg highway, which is great for a vehicle this size! I just wanted to let you know that the 4cyl is perfect for fuel savings, while the V6 is better for power and towing. Make sure to choose wisely, as some people have been disappointed by the lack of 4cyl power (168hp). It's always important to know what you're buying! Thanks for listening.

This car is fantastic! It's a great gas saver and comes with a lot of cool gadgets like Bluetooth, handsfree, and satellite radio. I love that it has a 5-speed manual gearbox that nobody else seems to have, and the 4WD is real, not just AWD. It's definitely the best car I've ever owned, and the warranty is unbeatable. The 4-cylinder engine has great power, and the car looks amazing both inside and out. Plus, the third row comes in handy when I need it. Overall, everything about this car is just fantastic. I've been a Mitsubishi fan for life, having owned the Montero, Montero Sport, Mirage, and the old pickups.

We purchased a 2011 Outlander in 2015 with low mileage. It has a 3.0 liter v6 engine, 6-speed automatic and currently has 127,000 km (79,000 mi). Overall, it has been a pretty good car. It has a powerful engine that can tow up to 3500 lbs and the AWD is great in snow. The shifts are smooth once the car has warmed up. The back seats are spacious, can recline and even move forwards and backwards. However, the third row is quite small and uncomfortable. Once you fold the third row away, the cargo area is quite large. The infotainment system has a backup camera, but it can be confusing to use. The ride can be bumpy on bad roads and there is some noise on the highway. Reliability wise, it has been alright. There have been a few minor issues, such as brakes failing once and two exhaust leaks. Overall, it's a decent car and I would recommend it, especially if it has the v6 engine. However, it's not the most refined SUV out there and the fuel economy is rather poor.

I test drove this car when it was first released, but as a high school student, I couldn't afford it. I waited until I purchased a used 2011 Outlander 2.4L 4WD in 2015 with 74,000km (46k miles) for $14,000 CAD ($10,500 USD). It was a great deal and I paid it off in 2018. I haven't had any mechanical trouble, except for a CV axle that was leaking in 2016 and was replaced under warranty. Currently, it has 170,000km (105k miles) and is still going strong. I absolutely love this car, especially since I'm 6'6

My CVT transmission seized at 137,500 miles. It is important to note that the owners manual does not mention changing the fluid, only checking it every 30k miles. Additionally, it is expected that the MIVEC motor valves be adjusted every 30k miles, which can cost around $400. Due to limited Mitsubishi dealers, I would advise against purchasing any Mitsubishi vehicles. It is also worth noting that the CVT fluid is $19.50 per quart, and roughly 6 quarts are needed to change the fluid once. Buying a 2011 model of this vehicle back in 2013 for $17k seemed like a good deal. Unfortunately, it hasn't lived up to my expectations. While it handles beautifully in the snow and has pretty good cargo space, the SE trim version has had some issues. However, I must say that the third row seating is very handy and the body design is attractive. I've had to make some repairs within 5 years, but I'm grateful for the Eclipse I own that has not had many of these problems and continues to be one of the best cars I've ever owned. It's also approaching the 200k mile mark. Although I'm ready to part ways with this vehicle now, I still believe that Mitsubishi has made some of my favorite vehicles in the past. It's just a shame what the vehicle division of the company has become.

I bought a 2011 Mitsubishi outlander SE FWD grey in color in 09/2011. I have had nothing but problems! 1st the sunroof popped out of it sitting in the garage!!Mitsubishi 1st gave me the run around, and after much debate, they paid for it. Then a stress crack in the windshield. I paid for it myself because I got NOWHERE w/ mitsubishi. It runs terrible, I have to be careful getting out on the highway or I will get run over. the dealership says nothing is wrong w/ it! I can smell burning rubber, and so can everyone else! They say nothing is wrong! Now the PAINT is comming off!! Mitsubishi says its MY fault....driving conditions??? The running light FELL out going down the road,and low MPGs!!!
