The Maserati Levante (Tipo M161) was an executive crossover SUV produced by Italian manufacturer Maserati at the Mirafiori factory in Turin from 2016 to 2024. The Levante went on sale in Europe in May 2016, and in North America in September 2016, remaining on sale into 2024. Production of the Levante ceased by the end of March 2024, commemorated with the release of a top-spec 424BHP special edition.

The Levante was named after a warm, easterly wind that blows in the western Mediterranean Sea, southern France, down to the Strait of Gibraltar. The name of the wind, in turn, comes from the Latin word "levare", which means "to rise". Its design is based on the Kubang concept car that debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Was recently taking my 2019 Maserati Levante in for service and front lower arms were broken. I am at about the same mileage with the 2019 (35k vs 40k on the 2018). Could this same issue be the culprit or was I supposed to receive a recall notice about faulty welding that I see has happened in other 2018 Levantes?

Negative 2018 Maserati Levante car reviews

  1. Billy Bailey 2024-10-16

The car initially caught my eye, however, at around 60,000 miles, issues began to arise and ultimately led to a complete engine failure at approximately 80,000 miles. Despite the high cost of replacement, I made the decision to invest in a new engine for $38,000. Unfortunately, the vehicle's value has significantly decreased and it is now worth only $10,000 in scrap. Although I paid over $100,000 for the vehicle when it was new, I have come to realize that it was not a wise investment.

  2. Berry Medhurst 2024-02-11

The paint on my car looked beautiful at first, but unfortunately, after driving it for only 5 months and 5,066 miles, I noticed over 30 chips in the paint. Additionally, I have experienced some issues with the stereo, front tires rubbing, and a rattling noise at 20 miles an hour. Despite these issues, the car has good acceleration once it gets going. However, at 70 miles an hour, I can feel the road through the steering wheel and gas pedal. The brakes squeak, but they do stop the car quickly. Although I have been told that I am the only person experiencing these issues, I am hopeful that they can be resolved. I was even presented with a solution to trade it in for a better Maserati, but unfortunately, I would lose $20,000 in the process. Overall, I would recommend being cautious before purchasing this car. By the way, I accidentally mentioned the wrong year earlier, mine is actually a 2017.

Positive 2018 Maserati Levante car reviews

  1. Chesley Legros 2025-01-07

Trading in a Porsche Cayenne, I received a surprise gift from my husband - a Maserati! I had been wanting one for years, ever since he purchased his first Ferrari. I met him at the dealer to pick up his car that was being serviced, and that's when I saw the Levante on the showroom floor. It was a 2018 model that had just come in, and it was stunning. The dark blue exterior with the beautiful dark gray/dark tan leather interior reminded me of a beautiful leather purse - hey, I'm a woman, what else would I think of? The car had beautiful dark gray wheels that complemented the exterior perfectly. The dealer was kind enough to let me test drive as many cars as I wanted (4 in total) before I decided on the Levante. Although it had a smaller horsepower than the other models, I felt it was fast enough for me to drive around town. The 'sport' feature kicks it up a notch, giving it that fabulous Ferrari exhaust sound. My husband was sold the minute he heard two things - it has a Ferrari engine and is chain-driven. I fell for the gorgeous interior and loved the fact that the car raises and lowers a whole 9 inches for ease of getting in and out. Not only am I a woman, but I'm also old! And one last really fabulous feature this car has - if another car is passing you in your blind spot, a light along with a 'ding' goes off on the side mirrors of the car, alerting you that someone is there. This is a safety feature that every car should come with. Go drive one, and you will be sold! Update one year later... The car is still fabulous! I haven't had a single complaint or issue with it in the past year. I love that I have only seen one other on my side of Atlanta. My old Porsche Cayenne was a dime a dozen. The gas mileage has leveled off at about 14-16 mpg. I rarely drive it on the highway; this is mostly local driving. Every feature works just fine. The sound of the engine sold me then, and I still love starting it up. It sounds just like my husband's Ferrari. I highly recommend this SUV.One more thing, I absolutely love the feature where the car raises and lowers by a full 9 inches. It makes it very easy for me to get in and out of, especially at my age. It keeps me feeling young!

  2. Deion Schroeder 2024-11-04

This car is both luxurious and sporty, but it's important to be cautious. The ride is so smooth that it can be difficult to gauge your speed. You could easily find yourself going over 100 mph on the expressway without even realizing it, unless you're keeping an eye on the speedometer.

  3. Damian Farrell 2024-11-01

This is a great looking SUV. I'm glad to hear that you bought it in champagne color, it sounds really fabulous! As with all new cars, there is a long learning curve without a lot of guidance from Maserati. It's great to hear that this car gets the number one spot in valet parking. It must be a true treat to look at and drive.

  4. Kobe West 2024-10-24

Hey there! This vehicle is definitely not for the faint of heart. When you put it in sport mode, it really comes to life! It handles like a sports car, but still has all the luxurious features you'd expect from a high-end vehicle.

  5. Timmothy McKenzie 2024-10-20

My wife and I test drove a Range Rover Sport and Levante on the same day, and we both preferred the Levante. The rear seat legroom is particularly impressive, surpassing other SUVs in its class. It's a great car for going out to dinner with another couple or your teenage kids. My wife, who usually doesn't enjoy driving my Cayenne Turbo, feels much more comfortable in the Levante. We've owned our Levante S for almost 2 years now, and it has been very reliable. Initially, I was concerned about owning a Maserati, so I purchased an extended warranty. However, in hindsight, the car is very well-built, engineered, and the interior finishes are awesome, so the extra warranty was probably unnecessary. In contrast, our friends had numerous issues with their leased 2017 Supercharged Range Rover Sport, and after several trips to the service department totaling over 60 days last year, they had to give it back to the dealer under the Lemon Law. It's unfortunate that their $120K car will be taken to the junkyard and crushed.
