Common 2008 Toyota Scion tc problems
The Toyota Scion tC 2008 has been known for its reliability, but like any other vehicle, it has its common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues by the owners:
- Water Pump Seal Failure: The water pump seal failure is another common problem reported by the Scion tC 2008 owners. The water pump is responsible for circulating coolant throughout the engine to prevent overheating. When the water pump seal fails, it can cause the coolant to leak, resulting in engine overheating. The symptoms of water pump seal failure include engine overheating, a sweet smell of coolant, and a coolant leak. In some cases, water pump seal failure can result in engine damage, which can be expensive to repair.
- Excessive Oil Consumption: The Scion tC 2008 has been known for its excessive oil consumption problem. The symptoms of excessive oil consumption include a burning smell, blue smoke from the exhaust, and a low oil level. In some cases, excessive oil consumption can result in engine damage, which can be expensive to repair. However, the good news is that Toyota has issued a service bulletin for the Scion tC 2008, which covers the excessive oil consumption issue. If your Scion tC 2008 has this issue and is still under 10 years since production and less than 150k miles, the dealership will take care of it.
- Head Gasket Failure: The head gasket failure is a serious problem that can occur in the Scion tC 2008. The head gasket is responsible for sealing the engine's cylinders and preventing coolant and oil from mixing. When the head gasket fails, it can cause coolant and oil to mix, resulting in engine overheating and damage. The symptoms of head gasket failure include engine overheating, white smoke from the exhaust, and a rough engine idle. In some cases, head gasket failure can result in engine replacement, which can be expensive to repair.
- Broken Trunk: The Scion tC 2008 has been known for its broken trunk problem. The trunk latch can break, making it difficult to open and close the trunk. The symptoms of a broken trunk include difficulty in opening and closing the trunk and a rattling noise from the trunk. In some cases, a broken trunk can be fixed by replacing the latch, but in severe cases, the entire trunk may need to be replaced, which can be expensive to repair.
In conclusion, the Toyota Scion tC 2008 is a reliable vehicle, but like any other vehicle, it has its common problems. The most frequently reported issues include clutch failure, water pump seal failure, excessive oil consumption, head gasket failure, and broken trunk. If you are considering buying a Scion tC 2008, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and to have them checked by a qualified mechanic before purchasing. Why did Scion fail?
However, market preference changes with time, and Scion found itself in trouble when its intended market lost its penchant for attention-grabbing cars. Suddenly, those young buyers grew up and had no interest in over-amplified sound systems, undercarriage neon lights, supercharger kits, or funky wheels.
