The Land Rover Discovery is a series of seven-seater family SUVs, produced under the Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The series is currently in its fifth iteration (or generation, according to the manufacturer), the first of which was introduced in 1989, making the Discovery the first new model series since the launch of the 1970 Range Rover – on which it was based – and only the third new product line since the conception of the Land Rover (vehicle and brand) by Rover in 1948. Space utilization became more sophisticated in later iterations, but the series keeps offering seats for seven occupants. Despite originally being sold as an affordable alternative to the Range Rover, the Discovery has also progressively moved upmarket through its successive generations to become a bonafide luxury SUV.
The second Discovery (1998) was called the Series II, and though featuring an extended rear body, was otherwise an updated facelift, which carried on the 100 in (2,540 mm) wheelbase frame and rigid, live front and rear axles of the original Range Rover into 2004.
The third iteration – succeeding the series I and II in 2004 - was either titled the Discovery 3 or simply LR3 (in North America and the Middle East). This was the first all-original design for the Discovery. Although it followed the 2002 third generation Range Rover, also switching to fully independent suspension, it still received a separate, but integrated body and frame (IBF) structure. The fourth iteration, as of 2009 – like the series II, was again mainly an update of the new generation – marketed as the Discovery 4, or Land Rover LR4 for North American and Middle Eastern markets.
The fifth iteration of the Discovery, introduced in 2017, no longer sports a numeric suffix. Unlike the previous two generations, it now benefits from a unitized body structure, making it lighter than its predecessor.

The contact was later informed by the dealer that he had to pay for his vehicle to be shipped off his island and onto the mainland where the dealer was located. The manufacturer had not reimbursed him for the repair made prior to the recall. The vehicle was not yet repaired under the recall. The failure mileage was 100,914.

- Summary: Back in Feb 2019 my LandRover suddenly leaked a large amount of gasoline and then broke down. It stopped running and needed the fuel rail & line replaced & stabilizer bar and bushings & subsequencely complete engine replacement. I also had fluid in the engine and wrecked the engine requiring us to replace the engine.

THE TANK IS UNDER THE VEHICLE NEXT TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM, SO THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE. THERE WAS A STRONG FUEL SMELL AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE, BUT NO FUEL DRIPPING WHEN PARKED. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN INTERNET SEARCH WHICH TURNED UP SEVERAL OTHER INSTANCES OF THE SAME PROBLEM INCLUDING A VIDEO ON YOUTUBE SHOWING THE SAME ISSUE. FURTHER RESEARCH REVEALED AN INVESTIGATION ON THE ISSUE: NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE20018. I REPLACED THE FILTER MYSELF AND WILL KEEP THE OLD ONE IN CASE IT IS NEEDED FOR THE INVESTIGATION. - Summary: VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FUEL. I COULD ALWAYS SMELL GAS BUT COULD SEE NOTHING DRIPPING. WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE JUST DIED. THE GAS MONITOR SAID I HAD 50 MILES TO GO BEFORE NEEDING FUEL. I GOT IT TOWED IN AND WAS TOLD THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING. THIS WAS DANGEROUS BECAUSE I HAD NO WARNING AND WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OF 70MPH WHEN IT JUST DIED ON A BRIDGE. THEY TOW COST ME ALMOST $300 TO GET IT TO SHOP. THE NEXT DAY THEY TOLD ME THE GOOD NEWS IS I JUST RAN OUT OF GAS, AND THE BAD NEWS IS I HAVE A LEAK AROUND FUEL PUMP WHICH CAUSED IT TO GIVE A FALSE READING OF HOW MUCH FUEL I REALLY HAD. AS STRONG AS THE FUMES WERE IT'S A WONDER IT NEVER CAUGHT FIRE. THIS COST OVER $800 TO FIX. THE OTHER PROBLEM I HAD IS WHEN THE FUEL INJECTORS FAILED, AND I NEEDED A TOW TRUCK AGAIN. THE CAR GAVE A WARNING SAYING 'RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE' THE FAILURE OF THE FUEL INJECTORS CAUSED GAS TO LEAK AS WELL, AND THE SHOP HAD TO OPEN ALL IT DOORS AND WINDOWS. THIS TIME THE LEAKING FUEL WAS VISIBLE. THIS COST ME OVER $2600 TO FIX. THIS WAS ALL WITHIN 90 DAYS OF EACH OTHER.

IF WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE YOU LIGHTLY REST YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL (FOR INSTANCE IN DRIVING IN CLOSE QUARTERS) THE CAR WILL ILLUMINATE MULTIPLE WANRING INDICATORS INCLUDING ENGINE FAILURE, BRAKE FAILURE, GEARBOX FAILURE, PARKING BRAKE FAILURE, ABS FAILURE, TRACTION CONTROL FAILURE, STABILITY CONTROL UNAVAILABLE AND CRUISE CONTROL UNAVAILABLE. GENERALLY WHEN THESE CONDITION OCCUR THESE SYSTEM WILL DEFAULT TO REDUCED FUNCTIONALITY MODES. THIS PROBLEM IS REPRODUCIBLE AND IS A KNOW ISSUE WITH THE DEALER AND LRNA. LAND ROVER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THIS ISSUE AND HAS NO CURRENT FIX OR PLANNED FIX. ITS APPARENT CAUSE IS A TWO STAGE BRAKE SWITCH WHICH CAUSES A SOFTWARE FAULT WHEN ONLY ONE OF THE TWO SWITCHES IS ENGAGED. LAND ROVER CANNOT CONFIRM THAT THE FAILURE OF THESE SYSTEM DOES NOT COMPROMISE THE SAFETY OF THE CAR. AT THE LEAST THIS FRIGHTENS THE DRIVER WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE A MASSIVE SYSTEMS FAILURE OR AT WORST COMPROMISES VIRTUALLY ALL THE ELECTRONIC SAFETY SYSTEMS OF THE CAR. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO APPLY TO THE LR4, RANGE ROVER SPORT, RANGE ROVER AND JAGUAR MODELS THAT USE THE SAME ENGINE COMPUTER SOFTWARE AND BRAKE SWITCH. MY RESEARCH HAS SHOWN OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR ISSUES

- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Range Rover Sport and 2010-2016 LR4 vehicles equipped with 3.0L V6 or 5.0L V8 engines. The fuel outlet flange mounted on the fuel tank may crack, possibly resulting in a fuel leak.
- Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel outlet flange, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed October 7, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2022. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N623.

The LR4 is an excellent choice for those seeking off-road capabilities, spacious seating for up to 7 adults, and a comfortable ride. The firm suspension ensures a smooth ride even on bumpy or uneven roads. The interior is roomy and the seats are comfortable without being too plush. The heated seats and steering wheel have been particularly useful during the winter months. The rearview camera and front/rear parking sensors make parking a breeze. The SUV is easy to drive and has a small turning radius. The navigation and iPod electronics have functioned perfectly. Additionally, there have been no issues or warranty work required. In terms of gas mileage, it gets 16-17 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.

Have driven 6000 miles in 5 months on all terrains and I can't say enough about how comfortable, useful and capable off-road the LR4 is. The air suspension allows the vehicle to be lowered, making getting in and out easy. Pickup with the powerful 8 cyl engine is great and you feel really safe in the LR4. I do wish it had better fuel performance or the choice of a diesel engine, but otherwise, there's nothing to complain about. It's a great car!
