The Land Rover Discovery is a series of seven-seater family SUVs, produced under the Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. Although positioned below the Range Rover in the company's line-up, the vehicle was both longer and higher, offered more room in the back, and optionally also more seats. Space utilization became more sophisticated in later iterations, but the series keeps offering seats for seven occupants. Despite originally being sold as an affordable alternative to the Range Rover, the Discovery has also progressively moved upmarket through its successive generations to become a bonafide luxury SUV.
The second Discovery (1998) was called the Series II, and though featuring an extended rear body, was otherwise an updated facelift, which carried on the 100 in (2,540 mm) wheelbase frame and rigid, live front and rear axles of the original Range Rover into 2004.
The third iteration – succeeding the series I and II in 2004 - was either titled the Discovery 3 or simply LR3 (in North America and the Middle East). This was the first all-original design for the Discovery. Although it followed the 2002 third generation Range Rover, also switching to fully independent suspension, it still received a separate, but integrated body and frame (IBF) structure. The fourth iteration, as of 2009 – like the series II, was again mainly an update of the new generation – marketed as the Discovery 4, or Land Rover LR4 for North American and Middle Eastern markets.
The fifth iteration of the Discovery, introduced in 2017, no longer sports a numeric suffix. Unlike the previous two generations, it now benefits from a unitized body structure, making it lighter than its predecessor.

- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Range Rover Sport and 2010-2016 LR4 vehicles equipped with 3.0L V6 or 5.0L V8 engines. The fuel outlet flange mounted on the fuel tank may crack, possibly resulting in a fuel leak.
- Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel outlet flange, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed October 7, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2022. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N623.

- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2014 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport and 2013-2014 LR4 vehicles manufactured September 16, 2013, to June 30, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may fail to learn the locations of the individual sensors while the vehicle is being driven. As a result, the low tire pressure warning light will illuminate, despite the the tire pressures being within specification. Should one of the tires subsequently lose air pressure, the driver would not be notified of the change in air pressure.
- Consequence: If the TPMS light illuminates because the sensors cannot be located, it could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, possibly resulting in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the Body Control Module (BCM) software, free of charge. The recall began on November 6, 2014. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837, Option 9. Land Rover's number for this recall is P050.

I bought a Range Rover in 2004 and it was a great SUV. However, I recently traded it in for the LR4 and I must say, it was a fantastic decision. The LR4 offers more bang for the buck, with a 5L V8 that puts out more power and a better driving experience. Although the fuel economy is not as good as my 2004 RR, the new Land Rovers are vastly improved and offer tremendous value compared to the competition.

The LR4 is an amazing performer both on and off the road. It has been through deep mud and steep slopes, and out of hundreds of off-road adventures, it only got stuck once on a steep grade of deep gravel stone, which was too loose and deep to get traction. I have towed a 22-foot, ~6,000 pound boat thousands of miles without any issues (though mileage went down to 11 mpg on average). On normal highway travel, I have gotten as high as 22 mpg (flatland in the summer with no load or passengers). Otherwise, I usually get 19 mpg on the highway and 15.5 mpg city. It is important to keep in mind that repairs after warranty can be costly. The bushings on the lower front control arms had to be replaced at ~90K miles (I replaced both lower control arms myself and had them re-aligned for ~$350). The water pump went out along with a plastic part under the valve cover at ~135K miles ($1,100 at a non-dealer shop specializing in Land Rovers, dealership quoted $1,600). The stitching on the front seats broke on a seam and was re-sewn at ~145K miles ($225). The exterior finish looks impeccable, and the interior, aside from the stitching, also looks impeccable. Changing the oil takes 15 minutes, and brake jobs are also easy for DIYers. My twin daughters will be driving this vehicle in 3 years from now as the LR4 is super safe. I was rear-ended by a Toyota Camry, which totaled that car, but only $1,200 of replacement plastic was needed on the LR4's rear bumper. At 7000 miles, my Land Rover experienced a major control module failure. Unfortunately, TATALand Rover was unable to provide a loaner vehicle and has been struggling to identify the issue with my truck. I purchased a new Discovery in December 2014, but unfortunately, in January, it started leaking oil. We took it back to LandRover and they needed 3 weeks to fix the engine, which required a major component replacement. Although I am disappointed with the situation, I am hopeful that LandRover will be able to provide a satisfactory resolution. I have expressed my concerns to them and am currently waiting for their response. I appreciate your understanding and patience as I work to resolve this issue. Thank you.
