2017 Land rover Discovery problems
The Land Rover Discovery is a series of seven-seater family SUVs, produced under the Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The series is currently in its fifth iteration (or generation, according to the manufacturer), the first of which was introduced in 1989, making the Discovery the first new model series since the launch of the 1970 Range Rover – on which it was based – and only the third new product line since the conception of the Land Rover (vehicle and brand) by Rover in 1948. The model is sometimes called influential, as one of the first to market a true off-road capable family car.
Although the Range Rover had originally been designed as an everyday four wheel drive car that could be used as both a utility vehicle and a family car, it had progressively moved upmarket through its life to evolve into a luxury vehicle sold at a much higher price point. The Discovery was intended to fulfill the role the Range Rover originally was intended for; a segment which was now dominated by Japanese rivals such as the Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero and Toyota Land Cruiser. Although positioned below the Range Rover in the company's line-up, the vehicle was both longer and higher, offered more room in the back, and optionally also more seats. Space utilization became more sophisticated in later iterations, but the series keeps offering seats for seven occupants. Despite originally being sold as an affordable alternative to the Range Rover, the Discovery has also progressively moved upmarket through its successive generations to become a bonafide luxury SUV.
The second Discovery (1998) was called the Series II, and though featuring an extended rear body, was otherwise an updated facelift, which carried on the 100 in (2,540 mm) wheelbase frame and rigid, live front and rear axles of the original Range Rover into 2004.
The third iteration – succeeding the series I and II in 2004 - was either titled the Discovery 3 or simply LR3 (in North America and the Middle East). This was the first all-original design for the Discovery. Although it followed the 2002 third generation Range Rover, also switching to fully independent suspension, it still received a separate, but integrated body and frame (IBF) structure. The fourth iteration, as of 2009 – like the series II, was again mainly an update of the new generation – marketed as the Discovery 4, or Land Rover LR4 for North American and Middle Eastern markets.
The fifth iteration of the Discovery, introduced in 2017, no longer sports a numeric suffix. Unlike the previous two generations, it now benefits from a unitized body structure, making it lighter than its predecessor.

I purchased my 2017 Disco TD6 brand new in 2017. As someone who has owned virtually every brand and type of SUV imaginable over the past 40 years, including GM, FORD, BMW, Audi and others, both diesel and gasoline, I can confidently say that this LR Disco TD6 has been an absolute blessing. With 118,000 miles on the clock and 7 years of ownership, I have had ZERO issues. It rides like a magic carpet and gets GREAT gas mileage (23-29 highway). It has never let me down and is very capable off-road. I take it skiing annually and it performs great in the snow. The first year I had it, I took it up Muddy Ridge outside Casper, Wyoming. I ascended a 500’ mountain on a steep rocky incline on a narrow 2 track trail. It performed flawlessly in rock crawler mode and never dragged bottom once with the suspension lifted. We take it on long road trips and easily range 500 miles per tank. It’s super comfy and I’ve never owned an SUV this comfortable, reliable and capable. I simply cannot say enough good things about it.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my positive experience with this car, especially after reading a couple of negative reviews. I've actually owned this car for five years now and I absolutely love it! The only issue I ever had was when the battery died, but it turned out to be my fault for leaving the center console cooler (refrigerator) on. Other than that, I've had zero issues. I really appreciate the app that allows me to start my car and warm it up from a distance on a cold day, or cool it down before I load the kids in after being out all day. It's also great on mileage, dependable, comfortable, has a great turning radius, looks great, and gets fantastic mileage - 23 mpg daily and averages 26 mpg on road trips. I just love it!

This SUV is not only luxurious and bold looking, but it's also highly comfortable with loads of space and compartments for everything. Plus, it comes with good electronics and features. And with 7 seats, there's plenty of room for the whole family!

This is definitely the best SUV I've owned.

We have been the proud owners of our Land Rover Discovery for over 3 years now and we have never regretted our purchase. We test drove many other luxury models and even leased a Benz before deciding on the Discovery. The comfort and capabilities of the Discovery are unparalleled. We previously used a pick-up truck to tow our 22' sailboat, but the Discovery has taken on that duty with ease and without complaint. The dealership and sales representative were extremely accommodating and a pleasure to work with. We are certain that we will be repeat customers of Land Rover. The quality and craftsmanship of their vehicles are truly unsurpassed. UPDATE: After 15 months of ownership, our Discovery continues to serve our needs admirably and still looks brand new. We continue to receive many compliments on the vehicle and are always happy to refer folks to the dealership in San Antonio, TX. UPDATE #2: We have now owned our Discovery for 4 years and our initial evaluation still stands. We have had nothing but routine maintenance for the entire time, aside from a couple of cactus flats from moving our boat. During our last trip to the dealership, our sales representative took us for a ride in a Defender. My husband's eyes lit up and I have a feeling this may be our next vehicle when it's time to trade in our current one. We remain impressed with the quality of Land Rover's products and are certain that we will not consider anything else when the time comes to purchase a new vehicle.

The car looks and drives like a dream. Although the reliability has been questionable, I'm hoping to get the issues resolved as I love how the car drives. Unfortunately, it has been in the shop three times already with only 16K miles. The biggest issue has been with the Turbo Management system, which has gone to Restrictive Drive four times and now the check engine light is on the dashboard. It's been a disappointing experience after spending $60K on an SUV. I had higher expectations for the brand than what they are delivering.

This was my dream car and I was so excited to finally buy it. However, after a few months, I noticed some issues with the windshield leaking, which was disappointing. Thankfully, the dealership was able to replace it quickly. Unfortunately, after 6 months, I started experiencing more leaks throughout the car, causing the carpet to become soaked and a bad smell to develop. While this has been frustrating, I am hopeful that the dealership will be able to resolve the issue soon. Although I may consider selling the car before the warranty is up, I still appreciate the quality of the Land Rover brand. However, I had a negative experience with the Warren Henry dealership in Miami, as their service wait time was quite long. I hope to find a better dealership in the future.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2017 Discovery Diesel that I purchased in November 2017. Unfortunately, I've had to take it to the dealership multiple times for various reasons since owning it. One issue was a leaking windshield, which took months for them to replace. Even after the replacement, I noticed condensation forming in the vehicle. The dealership took it back and removed the carpeting to let it dry out. However, I recently noticed what appears to be a melted spot on the rear spoiler just to the left of the LED light. The dealership suggested that I or someone/something must have caused it, but I'm not sure how it happened. I've shown it to a dozen folks, but no one can figure it out. Unfortunately, the spoiler is quite expensive at $1500, and it also needs to be painted. I just wanted to share my experience with you. Thank you for listening!

I recently purchased a brand new 2017 Discovery Lux TD6, but unfortunately, I experienced a number of non-stop infotainment issues. These included the dash being completely blanked out, the GPS indicating that we were driving in the Atlantic ocean, the rear camera staying on when the car was off, and the infotainment screen freezing. I took the car to the dealer, and they had it for over two weeks at one point. They even had to do a video conference with UK engineers who rebuilt the entire computer. Additionally, I had non-stop significant vibration in the rear tires, and the alignment seemed to shred the tires. When I inquired with the dealer about the lemon law, he suggested that I go buy a new car on the lot, and they would give me wholesale on a trade. Overall, I was disappointed because the design of the car was awesome. However, I traded it in for an Infiniti QX80, and I have had zero problems since then.
