2018 Land rover Discovery problems
The Land Rover Discovery is a series of seven-seater family SUVs, produced under the Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The series is currently in its fifth iteration (or generation, according to the manufacturer), the first of which was introduced in 1989, making the Discovery the first new model series since the launch of the 1970 Range Rover – on which it was based – and only the third new product line since the conception of the Land Rover (vehicle and brand) by Rover in 1948. The model is sometimes called influential, as one of the first to market a true off-road capable family car.
Although the Range Rover had originally been designed as an everyday four wheel drive car that could be used as both a utility vehicle and a family car, it had progressively moved upmarket through its life to evolve into a luxury vehicle sold at a much higher price point. The Discovery was intended to fulfill the role the Range Rover originally was intended for; a segment which was now dominated by Japanese rivals such as the Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero and Toyota Land Cruiser. Although positioned below the Range Rover in the company's line-up, the vehicle was both longer and higher, offered more room in the back, and optionally also more seats. Space utilization became more sophisticated in later iterations, but the series keeps offering seats for seven occupants. Despite originally being sold as an affordable alternative to the Range Rover, the Discovery has also progressively moved upmarket through its successive generations to become a bonafide luxury SUV.
The second Discovery (1998) was called the Series II, and though featuring an extended rear body, was otherwise an updated facelift, which carried on the 100 in (2,540 mm) wheelbase frame and rigid, live front and rear axles of the original Range Rover into 2004.
The third iteration – succeeding the series I and II in 2004 - was either titled the Discovery 3 or simply LR3 (in North America and the Middle East). This was the first all-original design for the Discovery. Although it followed the 2002 third generation Range Rover, also switching to fully independent suspension, it still received a separate, but integrated body and frame (IBF) structure. The fourth iteration, as of 2009 – like the series II, was again mainly an update of the new generation – marketed as the Discovery 4, or Land Rover LR4 for North American and Middle Eastern markets.
The fifth iteration of the Discovery, introduced in 2017, no longer sports a numeric suffix. Unlike the previous two generations, it now benefits from a unitized body structure, making it lighter than its predecessor.

Common 2018 Land rover Discovery problems
The 2018 Land Rover Discovery has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most significant issues is with the multimedia infotainment system and its color touchscreen, which can be slow to respond, freeze, or fail to recognize touch input. Pairing smartphones with the system can also be challenging, and the sat-nav operation and effectiveness have been criticized. While software updates may have addressed some of these glitches, it's essential to ensure that they have been applied.
Another common problem reported by owners is water leaks from the windscreen, which can soak the headlining and carpets. Sagging hinges can also make the tailgate difficult to close. Malfunctioning electric handbrakes may stick on, and the Tow Assist system may not work correctly. Vibrations from out-of-balance front driveshafts have upset some owners, and a few have experienced catastrophic engine failure with the 3.0 Sd6 V6 diesel. Additionally, some owners of the Sd4 diesel have reported finding metal fragments in the engine oil, possibly due to failed piston rings.
Pumps for the air suspension's airbags can fail with age, causing the Discovery 5 to list to one side, making it dangerous to drive. Electrical gremlins have also plagued the Discovery 5, with minor issues potentially triggering more significant problems that are difficult to diagnose.
Recalls have been issued for the 2018 Land Rover Discovery, including a recall for faulty emissions software that caused excessive CO2 emissions. Some models with the 2.0-litre petrol engine were also recalled due to concerns about fuel leaks.
Consumer Reports predicts that the 2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport will be less reliable than other new cars based on Land Rover's brand history.

- Summary: At the end of 2022 and early last year, I had multiple issues with the roof of my 2018 Land Rover Discovery coming apart/detached from the roof. On [XXX] a piece of my roof came off again that had already been replaced in 2023. There are four separate roof pieces and this is the fourth time one has separated from the vehicle (I believe three of the pieces at this point have detached). Two times, the roof pieces came off while I was driving on the highway, this could have seriously injured someone, luckily neither time hit a car or pedestrian. Land Rover will not accept that this is an issue with the build/body of the vehicle. I found a Land Rover forum where many people are having these same issues: [XXX] I am concerned that this will happen on the highway, cause an accident, and owner's will be held liable. I have attached multiple pictures I have taken reflecting this issue over the last year and a half, I tried to add more but I am receiving an error message. - Summary: To whom it may concern, I am writing to file a complaint about a serious defect in my Land Rover Discovery vehicle. The defect is a roof leakage near the windshield where it attaches to the body. This causes water to seep into the interior of the car and damage the electrical components. The service technician at the dealership informed me that they need to break the windshield in order to fix the leak and then replace the windshield. The estimate for this repair was around $3,500, which is unacceptable for a relatively new vehicle. I bought this pre-inspected vehicle in mid-2022 from the Land Rover dealership. I have learned from online sources that this is a common problem with many Land Rover vehicles, and that it poses a safety hazard as well as a financial burden for the owners. I request that you investigate this issue and issue a recall for all affected vehicles. I also request that you reimburse me for the cost of the repair or provide me with a replacement vehicle. I appreciate your attention to this matter and hope to hear from you soon. STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-04
- VIN: SALRR2RK5JA
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: July 2023 Jaguar LandRover of Sarasota serviced LandRover Discovery 2018 and checked for defect described in campaign no. 23V393 recall no. N 798. I was told my Discovery did not have the defect. One week later I was driving 40mph with my 12 year old autistic son in the back passenger seat when the door flew open. Fortunately, my son did not fall out of the car and we were not hit by oncoming traffic. The car needed to be towed and over a week later the dealership advised they have no part to repair the car, no loaner to offer me and no explanation as to why my car was checked for the defect in July apparently finding nothing, only to be put in a very dangerous position a week later. As an add on issue, my front passenger window will not roll up. This happened to the window on my driver side last year and was told the window motor needed to be replaced. Now the window on the passenger side stopped working. Is it possible water leaking into the door is eroding the electrical window motor stopping it from working. Can the passenger door lock and the window motor issue be connected? On four separate occasions trim on my Discovery have fallen off in the carwash. I was charged for parts and labor even though it did not seem normal for parts to literally fall off my car from being washed. I would like to be compensated for parts I had to purchase as well as the window being repaired at no cost. At the very least I expected a loaner vehicle, was told there were zero loaners available and have gone 8 days without transportation and secondly I would like to know how it is possible for the car to be checked for recall defect and told the car was safe and defect free.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-01
- VIN: SALRT2RV5JA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Car went black (all systems shut off) and i started to roll in the CVS parking lot when i was trying to drive in and Park. The brakes and nothing was engaging. IT happened so fast I was able to stop the vehicle and I am not sure how but may have just turned the shifter from drive to park... I took the vehicle in for service (a number of issues) and i forgot to mention this, I was told the Ground Stud needed replacing and it turned out this was likely the cause (I believe he said it had come loose). I have a extended warranty that has comprehensive coverage with CNA and they denied this part. Also, Land Rover recalled this exact part on 2019 and 2020 vehicles, clearly my 2018 has the same issue. Makes me wonder how many other 2018 vehicles also have the issue?

I purchased my 2017 Disco TD6 brand new in 2017. As someone who has owned virtually every brand and type of SUV imaginable over the past 40 years, including GM, FORD, BMW, Audi and others, both diesel and gasoline, I can confidently say that this LR Disco TD6 has been an absolute blessing. With 118,000 miles on the clock and 7 years of ownership, I have had ZERO issues. It rides like a magic carpet and gets GREAT gas mileage (23-29 highway). It has never let me down and is very capable off-road. I take it skiing annually and it performs great in the snow. The first year I had it, I took it up Muddy Ridge outside Casper, Wyoming. I ascended a 500-foot mountain on a steep rocky incline on a narrow 2-track trail. It performed flawlessly in rock crawler mode and never dragged bottom once with the suspension lifted. We take it on long road trips and easily range 500 miles per tank. It’s super comfy and I’ve never owned an SUV this comfortable, reliable, and capable. I simply cannot say enough good things about it.

I just purchased a Land Rover Discovery and I'm thrilled with it! It drives so smoothly, has quick pickup, and is incredibly spacious inside. The interior is just fantastic!
-
This is definitely the best SUV I've owned.

I leased the Discovery when it first came out in 2017. The SE model had a 6-cylinder engine that I absolutely loved. It had great acceleration and power, and the ride was both soft and sturdy. What I appreciated most about the ride was that it wasn't too springy like a Buick or Tahoe. The chassis absorbed a ton of road vibration and bumps, yet maintained a rigidity that made it feel controlled. Although I almost bought the car at the end of the lease, I ended up purchasing a new Defender instead. Throughout my time with the Discovery, I had zero issues with the car, except for the infotainment unit that would turn off every now and then (once a month). The blip would last maybe a few seconds, and then it would just reboot itself. Not a game changer. I drove the car hard and often and had zero complaints or mechanical issues. The engine was very reliable and efficient for a car of this size. I would definitely recommend it. I love the Discovery, but now I am a proud Defender owner!!!

First trip to Asheville from Charlotte and the round trip mpg was exactly 30 mpg! I'm so glad to hear that you found the journey very comfortable.

This car has unfortunately been a very disappointing purchase. However, it is important to note that many of the issues I experienced occurred after the warranty had expired. Despite this, I have had to replace the windshield twice due to water leaks, and the console cooler stopped working at only 50k miles despite minimal use. Additionally, there have been issues with oil leaks, the hood cable has had to be replaced twice before 60k miles, and there have been numerous software updates required to fix glitches such as screens randomly going black, slow touchscreen response, and freezing infotainment. The sunroof motor also had to be replaced before 60k miles, and there have been multiple DEF errors. The car also seems to go through tires quickly, although this may be due to the quality of the Continental tires. There have also been issues with the seat belt assembly and more oil leaks. It is worth noting that LR has installed two protective plates underneath the car to conceal the plastic connected to metal components. Overall, while this has not been a positive experience, it is important to consider the age of the car and the fact that many of these issues occurred after the warranty had expired.

The car looks and drives like a dream. Although the reliability has been questionable, I'm hoping to get the issues resolved as I love how the car drives. Unfortunately, it has been in the shop three times already with only 16K miles. The biggest issue has been with the Turbo Management system, which has gone to Restrictive Drive four times and now the check engine light is on the dashboard. It's been a disappointing experience after spending $60K on an SUV. I had higher expectations for the brand than what they are delivering.

We leased a brand new 2017 Land Rover Discovery HSE TD6 AWD, hoping it would be the perfect fit for our family of six. Unfortunately, the vehicle did not live up to our expectations of comfort, reliability, and luxury. Upon delivery, we discovered several issues, including detached interior door panels, malfunctioning windows, and a faulty radio/information panel. Although these problems were eventually repaired, we later experienced water leaking into the cabin from the upper center console and loud surging and vibrations when driving over 65 miles/hr. Over the past 26 months of ownership, we have encountered a range of issues, from leaky windshields and sunroofs to electrical glitches with the entertainment console. Despite our frustrations, we want to caution others to consider their options carefully before choosing this vehicle. We did not receive the support we needed from the dealership, and we were left feeling disappointed and dissatisfied with our experience.I contacted Land Rover to express my distress and after 2 months of research, they agreed to purchase the vehicle from me. However, they required me to purchase a new vehicle from them. It's disappointing that they treated me poorly, but I appreciate their willingness to work with me. Thank you, Land Rover. Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that you bought a 2018 CPO in early December 2021. It's great to hear that you chose a CPO car as a safe way to get into a used Land Rover. How has it been treating you? It's been about four months since you purchased it, so I hope everything is going smoothly.
