1967 Jeep 8701 problems
The Jeepster Commando is an automobile which was first produced by Kaiser Jeep in 1966 to compete with the International Scout, Toyota Land Cruiser and Ford Bronco. Four different models were available: a pickup truck, convertible, roadster and wagon. The Jeepster remained in production after American Motors Corporation (AMC) bought the Jeep line from Kaiser in 1970. After AMC's acquisition, the Jeepster Commando C101 (101" wheelbase) steadily grew in popularity. In 1972, AMC shortened the vehicle's name to Commando C104, extended the wheelbase to 104", and changed the front-end design to accept the AMC I6 and V8 304ci, similar to the Ford Bronco. The new configuration, formerly an AMC best seller, quickly caused the line to drop in popularity and was taken out of production in 1973; it was replaced with the full size Cherokee. The Jeepster is an ancestor of the modern Jeep family produced by Chrysler.
There are several Jeepster enthusiast clubs across the United States.
Willys-Overland, the original producers of the "Jeep" (originally manufactured for military use), also produced a "Jeepster" from 1948 until about 1950. This vehicle led to the later Kaiser productions.

Common 1967 Jeep 8701 problems
The Jeep 8701, introduced in 1967, is a rare and unique vehicle with a limited production run of only 2,885 units over three years. While the car is generally well-regarded, there are some common problems and maintenance issues that owners have reported.
One of the most frequently reported issues is with the steering, which can be described as clumsy or loose.
Another issue that owners have reported is with the brakes, which may require more pedal pressure than in a normal car. This can be a safety concern, particularly when driving at high speeds or in heavy traffic. It is important to have the brake system inspected regularly and to ensure that the brake pads and rotors are in good condition.
Rust is another common problem with the Jeep 8701, particularly in areas where the car is exposed to salt and moisture. Rust can affect the bodywork, frame, and suspension components, and can lead to expensive repairs if left unchecked. It is important to inspect the car regularly for signs of rust and to take action to prevent further damage.
Maintenance issues with the Jeepster Convertible include regular oil changes and fluid checks, as well as replacing worn or damaged components such as spark plugs, ignition wires, and belts. It is also important to check the tires regularly for proper inflation and wear, and to replace them when necessary.
In terms of value, the Jeep 8701 is a rare and desirable car, with only 136 units produced in 1969 and 2,885 units produced in total from 1967 to 1969. However, the value of the car can vary significantly depending on factors such as condition, mileage, and originality. It is important to have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic and to obtain a professional appraisal before making a purchase.
In summary, while the Jeep 8701 is a unique and desirable car, it is not without its common problems and maintenance issues. Owners should be aware of the potential issues with the steering, brakes, rust, and maintenance, and should take appropriate action to ensure the safety and longevity of the vehicle.
