2019 Land rover Discovery problems
The Land Rover Discovery is a series of seven-seater family SUVs, produced under the Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The series is currently in its fifth iteration (or generation, according to the manufacturer), the first of which was introduced in 1989, making the Discovery the first new model series since the launch of the 1970 Range Rover – on which it was based – and only the third new product line since the conception of the Land Rover (vehicle and brand) by Rover in 1948. The model is sometimes called influential, as one of the first to market a true off-road capable family car.
Although the Range Rover had originally been designed as an everyday four wheel drive car that could be used as both a utility vehicle and a family car, it had progressively moved upmarket through its life to evolve into a luxury vehicle sold at a much higher price point. The Discovery was intended to fulfill the role the Range Rover originally was intended for; a segment which was now dominated by Japanese rivals such as the Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero and Toyota Land Cruiser. Although positioned below the Range Rover in the company's line-up, the vehicle was both longer and higher, offered more room in the back, and optionally also more seats. Space utilization became more sophisticated in later iterations, but the series keeps offering seats for seven occupants. Despite originally being sold as an affordable alternative to the Range Rover, the Discovery has also progressively moved upmarket through its successive generations to become a bonafide luxury SUV.
The second Discovery (1998) was called the Series II, and though featuring an extended rear body, was otherwise an updated facelift, which carried on the 100 in (2,540 mm) wheelbase frame and rigid, live front and rear axles of the original Range Rover into 2004.
The third iteration – succeeding the series I and II in 2004 - was either titled the Discovery 3 or simply LR3 (in North America and the Middle East). This was the first all-original design for the Discovery. Although it followed the 2002 third generation Range Rover, also switching to fully independent suspension, it still received a separate, but integrated body and frame (IBF) structure. The fourth iteration, as of 2009 – like the series II, was again mainly an update of the new generation – marketed as the Discovery 4, or Land Rover LR4 for North American and Middle Eastern markets.
The fifth iteration of the Discovery, introduced in 2017, no longer sports a numeric suffix. Unlike the previous two generations, it now benefits from a unitized body structure, making it lighter than its predecessor.

Common 2019 Land rover Discovery problems
The Land Rover Discovery 2019 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most significant issues is related to the infotainment system, which has been criticized for its slow response time, difficulty in recognizing touch inputs, and occasional freezing. Software updates have been released to address these glitches, but it is essential to ensure that the updates have been installed.
Another common problem reported by owners is water leaks from the windscreen, which can soak the headlining and carpets.
Vibrations from out of balance front driveshafts have also been reported to upset some owners, while a handful have suffered catastrophic engine failure with the 3.0 Sd6 V6 diesel.
Pumps for the air suspension’s airbags can fail with age, causing the Discovery 5 to list to one side, making it treacherous to drive.
In terms of recalls, a significant number of Discovery 5s were recalled in April 2019 for faulty emissions software that caused excessive CO2 emissions. This was cured with a software update.
It is important to note that the reliability of the Discovery 5 seems to be a bit of a gamble, with some owners reporting no issues while others have had significant problems, leading to frequent trips to the workshop.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-18
- VIN: SALRG2RVXK2
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: On May 18, 2024 at approximately 4pm, my husband turned on my 2019 Land Rover Discovery from a cold start after sitting parked for about 20 minutes. We heard a slight rattle upon start-up, so he turned the car ignition off. He restarted the car after about a minute and we did not hear the rattle. We began driving the car and after about 2-3 miles, the car started shuddering and began slowing down but did not completely stall. My husband turned off the car again and we waited for a couple of minutes and he restarted the car. It drove fine for about a mile and began shuddering/hesitating again as we were driving. Then the car made a loud warning sound, a warning light flickered on the dash and the engine completely turned off as we were driving. We were in the middle of traffic and had we been on the freeway, there would have been catastrophic consequences as the engine completely stopped. We thankfully were able to coast to a side-street on our immediate right and stopped. The engine would not turn over and my husband was unable to restart the car. I immediately made an appointment with my local Land Rover dealership for 3 days later (next available) and had the truck towed there. After inspection, they told me they believed the main bearing in the engine failed due to an oil pump failure and that the engine would need to be replaced. My truck is 5 years old and has less than 100,000 miles (only about 80K). No previous warning lights! A car this expensive and with so few miles with regular maintenance service being performed by either Land Rover or AAA, shouldn’t need a new engine. This is after I’d had the camshaft adjuster/timing chain replaced in this truck by the same dealership only 3 months prior! After speaking to the service person, he informed me that 2 other Land Rovers were sitting in the dealership waiting for the SAME engine and waiting for 4-5 months to be delivered from the manufacturer with NO ETA! Known, dangerous problem! Please help resolve!

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-06-19
- VIN: SALRR2RV8K2
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Suddenly, one morning on my way to work the steering became extremely heavy and the handling became very dull. The steering wheel still turned the wheels, but it required a vast amount of effort where the previous day the steering wheel could have been turned with one finger. There were no noises coming from the steering column, or warning lights associated with the defect. No smells associated with friction from parts rubbing together, either. Totally silent. I consulted the manual and no mention was made re: what was happening. It had advised to call an authorized dealer to have it inspected. A trip to the dealership confirmed that the steering gear assembly (a $5,000 part) had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealership did not make mention of this issue being common, or even having happened recently with a similar model/year. There is almost no power assistance coming through the steering, and I am worried about what could happen as a result. Perhaps the steering itself will become impossible? The dealer was uncertain as to whether it posed a greater issue or was just "an annoyance".

- VIN: SALRR2RV9K2
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASING MY LAND ROVER DISCOVERY I NOTICED THERE WAS A LAG TIME WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHEN MAKING A TURN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT SHOULD BE RESOLVED BY UPDATING THE SYSTEM. THEY UPDATED IT BUT IT CONTINUED TO HAVE THE LAG ISSUE SO I COMPLAINED AGAIN AND THEY SAID IT'S THE NATURE OF THE CAR. I TOLD THEM THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVEN'T RECEIVED ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO SAY IT'S AN ISSUE WITH CAR. I ALSO HAVE HAD OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SUCH AS THE NAVIGATION SCREEN GOING BLANK WHILE DRIVING OR NOT COMING ON AT ALL AND ALSO MY REMOTE KEY FOBS DO NOT WORK ALL THE TIME. EVEN WITH THE REMOTES IN MY HAND NEAR THE CONSOLE THE CAR WILL SAY THEY ARE NOT DETECTED. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WERE FINE. TODAY, I RECEIVED A RECALL FROM LAND ROVER STATING THERE ARE VARIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH CAR WHERE THE VEHICLE COULD CUT OUT WHILE IN MOTION AND MAY LOSE ALL ELECTRICAL POWER. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT THEY ARE BOOKED OUT FOR 3 WEEKS SO I WILL HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS UNSAFE CAR. I THINK IT'S VERY IRRESPONSIBLE OF LAND ROVER TO PUT OWNERS IN A POSITION TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE A VERY UNSAFE CAR. THESE CARS SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD.

I leased the Discovery when it first came out in 2017. The SE model had a 6-cylinder engine that I absolutely loved. It had great acceleration and power, and the ride was both soft and sturdy. What I appreciated most about the ride was that it wasn't too springy like a Buick or Tahoe. The chassis absorbed a ton of road vibration and bumps, yet maintained a rigidity that made it feel controlled. Although I almost bought the car at the end of the lease, I ended up purchasing a new Defender instead. Throughout my time with the Discovery, I had zero issues with the car, except for the infotainment unit that would turn off every now and then (once a month). The blip would last maybe a few seconds, and then it would just reboot itself. Not a game changer. I drove the car hard and often and had zero complaints or mechanical issues. The engine was very reliable and efficient for a car of this size. I would definitely recommend it. I love the Discovery, but now I am a proud Defender owner!!!

We bought a 2019 new & absolutely love it! Although the Bluetooth can be temperamental at times, which can be a bit of a pain, and there was a recall on the leaking windshield, it's still a steady, heavy, and capable hauler. We've driven 63K kms and now it's time for its first big service, including a new set of brakes.

This is definitely the best SUV I've owned.
-
Best 3rd seat space. Comfortable ride. You've had the car for 2 1/2 years and driven 33,000 miles with no trouble. Although, some of the console coating is showing signs of wear.

My experience with Land Rover has been disappointing from the beginning. Although I loved the look and ride of my first Land Rover Discovery, I encountered poor knowledge from the salesman, inadequate support from the service department, and poor management from both the local dealership and corporate office. As a luxury brand, I expected the best customer service, which I have received from other luxury brands. Unfortunately, Land Rover's slow response from both local and corporate headquarters, as well as their inability to address the problem quickly, has left me feeling frustrated. It has been four months since I bought the car and I still have not been able to use the activity key. I was told that it was a software issue that had to be addressed by corporate, but I am still waiting for a resolution. I am disappointed that Land Rover sold me a car and made it sound like the activity key was ready to use, when in reality it was not. The back and forth between the dealership and the lack of knowledge of what is going on is unacceptable for a company of this size. I am still waiting for a resolution and have not received any apologies, only requests to wait. Additionally, the unreliability of their phone app is frustrating. The app only works once in about 50 attempts and constantly gives poor connectivity alerts or does not work at all. This is false advertising on their part, as they are selling cars that they advertise as having a working activity key, when in reality it does not. I am disappointed with the service department, which may have been an issue with my local dealership, but the difficulty of getting in touch with the service managers and the lack of response from the general manager is concerning. Unfortunately, this will be my last Land Rover. Although I wanted to experience Land Rover and I do like their car, bad customer service is a big part of purchasing a car for me, and it is not worth it in the future. (December 2018)I've had this car for about a year now and unfortunately, I've had more issues with it than any other car I've owned. In early December, I noticed a leak from the front windshield that caused the interior to become soaked with water. When I took the car in for repairs, the dealership was aware of the issue and explained that Land Rover had experienced problems with the front windshield and sealing. I was surprised that I hadn't received any notice from the dealership or the company, but the staff were very helpful and kept the car while it was being repaired. Although it's now January 16th, 2019, the car is still at the dealership because they're having trouble locating the necessary windshield from Land Rover. While I'm missing my car, which has my XM radio and data, I'm grateful for the loaner car that I've been given. I'm disappointed that the dealership hasn't been able to locate the windshield yet, but I'm confident that they're doing everything they can to resolve the issue. Although I haven't received a phone call from the manager to apologize or explain the situation, I'm hopeful that the dealership will make things right. While I won't be purchasing a Land Rover in the future due to the issues I've experienced with the car and the service, I'm happy to say that I've recently switched to a BMW X7 and I'm loving it. The dealership and service have been fantastic, and I'm looking forward to a great experience with this car.

Despite numerous visits to the dealer, my interior computer is still not functioning correctly. It is slow, unresponsive and outdated. I am disappointed with the performance of my vehicle and its resale value after only two years. I would recommend considering other options before making a purchase.

This car is cute, but unfortunately, it has some quality issues. The racks on the hood have fallen off on me three times while driving on the freeway, and the interior is not the best. The material on the seats is not of the highest quality. Overall, I regret buying this car.

We are confident that the GMC Yukon is a better fit for my wife's needs. Our previous experience with the Yukon was positive and we plan to trade the current vehicle for another one.

In 2007, I purchased my first Land Rover, an 04 Disco with 30xxx miles. I was really impressed with the ruggedness and overall coolness of the vehicle. However, after a year and a half, it turned into a nightmare. The oil pump blew on the freeway and totally destroyed the engine, which was the first engine failure of any vehicle I had previously owned. It shook me pretty bad and I stayed away from Land Rovers for 18 years. Recently, the new Discovery caught my eye and I thought for sure Land Rover had changed as far as reliability goes. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. I purchased my 2019 Discovery SE with 26000 miles on it and the first thing to happen was tires wearing quicker than normal and alignment issues. The car also went into limp mode at low RPMs. I took it to Land Rover and they said it was the catalytic Converter. They had the car for 4 weeks due to the part being on backorder. This was done at 37k miles. At 43k, while driving at low RPMs through a subdivision, the engine started hesitating and I had to pull over. I got it towed and sure enough, it needs a new engine. Unfortunately, the car is out of warranty now and the price I was given was $22,000. I have decided that I will not be buying a Land Rover again.
