2010 Jeep Wrangler problems
The Jeep Wrangler is a series of compact and mid-size four-wheel drive off-road SUVs manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and currently in its fourth generation. The Wrangler JL, the most recent generation, was unveiled in late 2017 and is produced at Jeep's Toledo Complex.
The Wrangler is a direct progression from the World War II Jeep, through the CJ (Civilian Jeeps) produced by Willys, Kaiser-Jeep, and American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the mid-1940s through the 1980s. Although neither AMC nor Chrysler (after it purchased AMC in 1987) have claimed that the Wrangler was a direct descendant of the original military model — both the CJ Jeeps and the conceptually consistent Wrangler, with their solid axles and open top, have been called the Jeep model as central to Jeep's brand identity as the rear-engine 911 is to Porsche.
Similar to the Willys MB and the CJ Jeeps before it, all Wrangler models continue to use a separate body and frame, rigid live axles both front and rear, a tapering nose design with flared fenders, a fold-flat windshield and can be driven without doors. Also, with few exceptions, they have part-time four-wheel drive systems, with the choice of high and low gearing, and standard open bodies with removable hard or soft tops. However, the Wrangler series was specifically redesigned to be safer and more comfortable on-road, to attract more daily drivers, by upgrading its suspension, drivetrain, and interior, compared to the CJ line. The suspension on all Wranglers included trackbars and anti-roll bars, and, from the 1997 TJ onwards, front and rear coil springs instead of the previous leaf springs.
From 2004 on, the Wrangler has been complemented with long-wheelbase versions, called Wrangler Unlimited. 2004-2006 models were longer versions with 2 doors. In 2004 only automatic transmission-equipped “Unlimited” versions were sold. In 2005 both an automatic and manual 6-speed (NSG-370) were offered. Since 2007, the long-wheelbase Wranglers were four-door models, offering over 20 in (508 mm) more room. By mid-2017 the four-door models represented three-quarters of all new Wranglers on the market.

Common 2010 Jeep Wrangler problems
The 2010 Jeep Wrangler is known for its impressive off-road performance and rugged driving experience. However, it has also been associated with several common problems that owners have reported, which are more severe than those found in other SUVs.
One of the most common problems with the 2010 Jeep Wrangler is computer issues, specifically with the totally integrated power module (TIPM). This module is responsible for controlling various electrical systems in the vehicle, and when it fails, it can cause problems such as random shifting, failed emissions tests, engine stalling, poor engine performance, and failed diagnostics.
Another common problem with the 2010 Jeep Wrangler is fuel spilling while filling up. This issue is caused by a clogged filter that prevents fuel from making it into the tank, resulting in fuel spilling out while filling up. Changing out the filter costs about $250, depending on local labor rates.
Excessive oil consumption is also a problem that some 2010 Jeep Wrangler models experience at around 40,000 miles. The V6 engine found in the Wrangler is known to consume more oil than other engines, which can lead to costly repairs if not addressed promptly.
In addition to these issues, the 2010 Jeep Wrangler's engine is a weak 3.8L V6 that only makes 202 horsepower and gets around 17 MPG. Performance is poor, taking 7.9 seconds to go from 0-60 MPH.
Interior quality is another area where the 2010 Jeep Wrangler falls short compared to other SUVs, earning a rating of 6/10. The materials are durable and clean up easily, but the stereo system is simple, and the back seats are tiny.
Despite these issues, the 2010 Jeep Wrangler is a reliable vehicle that can last around 250,000 miles with some computer and fuel spilling issues. It's worth the money if you want a capable off-road SUV, but it's more expensive than other SUVs in its class, with blue book values ranging from $14,726 to $18,902.
In conclusion, while the 2010 Jeep Wrangler offers impressive off-road performance and a rugged driving experience, it's important to be aware of the common problems that owners have reported. These issues include computer problems with the TIPM, fuel spilling while filling up, excessive oil consumption, poor engine performance, and poor interior quality. However, with regular maintenance and checkups, the 2010 Jeep Wrangler can be a reliable and capable off-road SUV that lasts for many years.

It is, however, a well known issue reported on Jeep owner forums as an ABS Dashboard Christmas Tree. I have not yet had an ABS related accident but it is extremely concerning that there is an internal ABS module failure that could cause an accident. I have attempted to replace the ABS Module, part 68067458AA, but I am told this part is not available due to a hold for engineering review. I have found on the internet that this is common and the repair part is available, but I feel that this is very similar to the recall on Toyota trucks that is now on going so I feel it is my duty to report this safety situation
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-15
- VIN: 1J4BZ3H1XAL
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: This vehicle was recalled in 2016 for defective airbag clock spring replacement and I had the recall work done in early 2017. In June of 2021, the airbag warning lamp came on and a scan showed that the airbag clock spring (which had been replaced under the recall in 2017) was defective. I took the vehicle to the local Jeep/Chrysler dealer and was told that they only warranty recall related parts for 2 years, which had already expired, and that I was responsible for FULL payment to get the clock spring replaced. It is incomprehensible to me that an official NHTSA recall that resulted in replacing a supposedly defective part with another part that proved defective would not be covered by the original recall at Jeep/Chryslers expense. Serious injury or death could occur to myself and other passengers if the airbags are not properly deployed in a collision. An additional recall should be issued for owners of all Jeep vehicles that had a defective part replaced with another defective part.

POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-27
- VIN: 1J4HA5H17AL
- Components: POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: When starting the vehicle the check engine light comes on. Including the low tire pressure sensor comes on. The tires have been repaired yet the pressure system still says low. The car when shortly after it's been turned on only going several miles an hour and staying about 2RPMs starts to kick forward in a abrupt motion as if it wants to accelerate. Sometimes it's a hit or miss to start the car so I have to put it in neutral to start it. In conclusion everytime the vehicle starts to move from a complete stop or braking a loud clanking noise repeats a 2-3 times (clank, clank, clank) continues then stops after driving continually, then repeats after every stop that is made. I'm not sure what to make of it but my guess it has to do with the braking system even though no warning lights for brakes have come up.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-05
- VIN: 1J4HA6D19AL
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The muffler heat shield has become detached from all 4 fasteners and drops onto the top of the muffler. When starting the engine could hear a loud metal banging noise from the rear of the vehicle. Where the heat shield attaches to the body on 4 studs and is held in place by 4 zinc plated pal nuts, around the pal nuts the heat shield corrodes and separates from the zinc pal nuts allowing the heat shield to fall onto the muffler. On the Jeep Wrangler forums this is a widely discussed topic happening to many Jeep Wrangler owners from about the 2007 model year to about the 2015 model year. Some have just removed the heat shield by themselves and other have reportedly taken the Jeep Wrangler to Jeep or Chrysler dealerships where they have removed the heat shield. Is there a safety risk?? Not sure, but the manufacture installed the heat shield for a reason. This component, if there for a safety reason, should last almost the life of the vehicle. Only have 48K on the odometer.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-21
- VIN: 1J4BA3H10AL
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Hello, Recently my 2010 Jeep Wrangler has developed the infamous death wobble. It is one of the most terrifying things I've ever experienced. Being on the freeway, doing 75, having my vehicle suddenly start shaking and wobbling like it's coming apart at the seams, and having to come to a complete stop in the middle of rush hour traffic, 3 lanes away from the shoulder has given me extreme anxiety! I have read in depth about this issue, I have read that there have been lawsuits and tech bulletins, but never a recall because "nobody has died from this". Believe me, it's only a matter of time, whether it be a heart attack or an accident, it will happen.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-28
- VIN: 1J4BA5H13AL
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: I was driving from the store, I was coming up to a cross road when my wipers just went wild for reasons unknown. When I went to turn them off it completely shut off putting at a sudden stop thankfully just before the crossroad and I'm blessed my kids weren't with me. Put it in park then tried to start it and it was shortly after when I was able to get it started again. Once it was able to start I put into drive and the whole dash was up in lights, and it was almost like it was bogging the rest of the way, under a certain Rpm it was gunna die and I couldn't get it to sustain at a rpm. Almost like it was bogging down on me. Just hoping and praying it would last till home. Once I got it home it died on me. Once it was parked and I tried to figured it out it only tries to turn over after that it dies on me. For how sudden it happened I just don't think I can trust taking it out anymore especially with my children. I am greatful that myself and no one else was injured if it had happened seconds later it would of been a different story. I haven't been able to move it or get it checked because of work and towing costs. So I'm at a loss for what it could be.

WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-18
- VIN: 1j4ba3h16al
- Components: WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: I purchased the vehicle from Loperena Auto Sales based on a video and phone conversation with Eddie Loperena who said nothing was wrong with the vehicle expect maybe a left front tire. On March 31 I wired ($14, 995.00) to Loperena Auto. I hired a transportation company to transport the vehicle to my home address in Bedford NH - the vehicle arrived with a ripped temporary plate, 1 key, copies of Bill of Sale but NO TITLE.He informed me the title was coming (On April 20th still no title) and to relax. I ordered four new tires (as they were all bad and would not pass inspection) and they arrived a few days ago so I took the Jeep to Tire Warehouse and they said the vehicle has some issues and they recommended I take the vehicle to a mechanic. I texted Eddie from Lopererna who informed me that this was a used vehicle and he does not check anything in his cars including brakes, engines nothing - this was a completely different tune than when I spoke with him before when he said nothing was wrong with the vehicle. He then called me a text gangster, so I called him and became belligerent and asked me if I knew who I as dealing with and come down to the dealership.I told him the car needed work which was different than what he told me on the phone before purchasing the vehicle and he again said he never checks his cars.. they are used cars. I took the vehicle to my local mechanic and he said the car was a lemon. The car needs new front bearings, two new U joints and if they are stuck to the front axle then a new front axle, rear axle seal and additional bearings. He then said there is so much OIL on the engine that it is a fire hazard (Must not be Driven) and he cannot determine where the oil is coming from without pressure washing the Engine but at a minimum the whole engine needs to be resealed. Answers: Engine, Tires and Axle failed inspection and yes. Definite safety risk! Inspected by mechanics and police. NO Lights at all and only made aware at mechanics shop

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-02-02
- VIN: 1J4AA2D13AL
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: When trying to fill up with gas, the automatic shut off on the nozzle will go off, to the point where when trying to fill up you end up spilling gas on yourself or out of the car, happens every time, all the time and is a known issue for Jeep Jk's. A recall was posted for two of the eleven years. When I spoke to the dealer, they wanted to do a smoke test, because they had never heard of this issue even though there is a service bulletin that I had to personally find. Dealer seems to just want money. I think spilling gas every time I fill up is a major safety concern.

I recently traded in my 2004 (8 cyl.) Buick Rainier for a loaded Sahara. I was a bit apprehensive about the new Wrangler, having owned a Jeep 20 years ago. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how well it compared in terms of cabin comfort, on-road driving, and acceleration. Although there is a slight drop off, the power everything, leather trim, and NAV/Hard drive/Satellite make up for it. This model and its options make it a more than capable day-to-day family vehicle. I don't feel like I'm giving up much to have all the fun and capabilities of a Jeep. My kids were even more excited than me when I pulled into the driveway. I'm looking forward to years of fun with this one!

I went shopping and checked out several vehicles including the H3-Alpha, GM Avalanche, and many others. Then, I took the Jeep Wrangler for a test drive. It handled, shifted, and drove very nicely. The ride was smooth, although it's not quite as luxurious as a Cadillac. The acceleration is a bit lackluster, but it's good enough. The turning radius is excellent, and visibility is also great. By the way, the Jeep Wrangler is the only 4x4 vehicle that allows you to remove the roof and doors! Now, the real fun begins! I prefer to use a stick shift because it provides better mileage and helps me feel more connected to the car and the road, whether on or off-road. I shunned the high-dollar 4x4s as some of the extras were not really necessary. Why pay $47,000+ for the others when you can get a Jeep for $24,000? Enough said!

Although fairly new, I'm so glad we got our Rubicon! It's been a lifesaver during Michigan winters. We actually decided to get one after off-roading in a Jeep in Moab, Utah. Plus, it heats up so quickly that we don't even need a block heater!

This car is amazing off-road! It can handle anything - rivers, trees, lakes, mud, you name it. I used to own a Mercedes G55 AMG, which was definitely more luxurious, but the Wrangler beats it hands down in off-road situations. However, it's important to note that this car is not your typical on-road vehicle, so if you plan on using it for urban commutes and driving, it might be worth considering getting a second car.

This is my 5th Wrangler, and it just keeps getting better! Even in its stock form, it handles great on and off the road. I chose the bone stock Unlimited Sport model because I knew I was going to change the suspension and add bigger tires. It's a great value with a warranty.

The vehicle experienced excessive oil loss at 45,000 miles, with a rate of about 3-4 quarts every 2000 miles. Although it was just out of warranty, I took it to a machine shop and discovered that the piston rings were stuck to the piston. However, after driving the Jeep from Indiana to Florida and conducting a compression check on all cylinders, they all tested good and the oil loss stopped. It is unclear why this occurred, but I am confident in the current state of the vehicle.

I bought this Jeep (2 door) just to have a toy and I got the Mountain Package. I absolutely love the way it looks and the seats are very comfortable. I decided not to go with the 2011 model because I didn't like the seat covers and the softer interior look. In my opinion, this is an outdoor vehicle and it's great that it has a tougher feel to it. Although it could use more power, I'm amazed at how quiet the interior is with the soft top. It's not the quietest vehicle, but it does well for a convertible with a soft top. I do think the stereo could be better, but I didn't get the subwoofer and I honestly didn't feel like it made much of a difference anyway. While I wouldn't recommend any Wrangler as a primary vehicle, especially if you drive a lot, I would definitely buy another one because I absolutely love it!

After convincing my husband to finish our 71 Scouts, he finally allowed me to get a Jeep. However, I wish he had stuck to his guns. I didn't test drive it much, and if I had, I wouldn't have bought it. It's a rough ride and more of a man's truck than a family vehicle. I need to trade it in for a car with better fuel economy. I only bought it because I wanted a smaller car payment. As the forums say, 'You're either a Jeep lover or not.' Unfortunately, I'm one of the 'nots.' My husband, on the other hand, likes it. It looks cool, but it's just not for me.

Hello! I purchased my JK on May 5, 2011 and unfortunately, I noticed that the battery light was on. After that, I had to deal with issues such as the alternator, battery cable, and oil change. It has been a frustrating experience, to say the least. Today's date is June 14, 2011, and I still don't have air conditioning. According to corporate, there is no date for when they can get the parts to fix the problem. I understand that the situation is out of their control, but it's still frustrating. I thought I bought a new vehicle, but it seems like there have been some issues. I hope we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your time.

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned a common issue with burning oil in your Jeep Wrangler, about 1 quart per 1000 miles (with additive). I came across this petition that might interest you: https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/oilburningjeepwrangler#comments
