2007 Toyota Matrix problems
The Toyota Matrix, officially named Toyota Corolla Matrix, is a compact hatchback manufactured by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada in Cambridge, Ontario and derived from the Corolla. Introduced in 2002 as a 2003 model, the Matrix was the result of a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors, with the GM version being the Pontiac Vibe, which was assembled by New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) in Fremont, California, United States.
The Matrix was positioned as a sporty hatchback counterpart of the North American Corolla and was counted as a variant of it in Toyota's sales figures.
Although identical mechanically, and nearly as much internally, the Matrix and Vibe had different sheetmetal and exterior trim designed by their respective brands. Both vehicles are narrow, tall station wagons styled in a quasi-SUV fashion (called a crossover utility vehicle or "CUV" by Toyota) and marketed to a fairly youthful market segment. This type of car is also commonly referred to as a sport wagon.
First sold in February 2002, the Matrix saw a minor facelift for the 2005 model year, and was redesigned completely in 2008 for the 2009 model year, following the tenth generation Corolla. Sales of the Matrix were discontinued in the United States in 2013 and in Canada in 2014.

Common 2007 Toyota Matrix problems
The 2007 Toyota Matrix has several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include engine problems, transmission problems, sudden acceleration, and exhaust system issues.
Engine problems are one of the most severe issues in the 2007 Toyota Matrix. Many owners have reported that the car consumed too much oil and heard ticking or rattling noises coming from the engine. Eventually, the Matrix engine just failed, and the repair cost was around $3,400.
Transmission problems are also a common issue in the 2007 Toyota Matrix. Some owners have reported knocking noises coming from the transmission, erratic shifting, and whining noises from the floorboard. These symptoms are indicative of a problematic transmission system.
Sudden acceleration is another significant issue in the 2007 Toyota Matrix. Many owners have reported that their Matrix suddenly accelerated while driving at slow speeds, and hitting the brakes did nothing. This issue prompted a major recall from the Japanese carmaker.
Exhaust system issues are also prevalent in the 2007 Toyota Matrix. Some owners have reported cracks in the exhaust system, which meant the entire system needed replacing. However, Toyota no longer makes the parts, and off-brand parts had to be replaced again.

WE HAVE SEEN THE WORDS 'BRAKE OVERRIDE' AND 'SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION' IN CASES AGAINST TOYOTA. THERE WERE NO FLOOR MATS IN THE CAR. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR IN THE FIRST WEEK OF OCT 2016, SO IT WAS ONLY APPROX 75 DAYS IN OUR POSSESSION. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NEVER GET US IN CONTACT WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER (ABOUT UNRELATED QUESTIONS) AND NEVER MENTIONED ANY POSSIBLE ISSUE WITH THE CAR. THEY GAVE ME A CARFAX, BUT THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THE SUA ISSUE. WE FEEL TOYOTA OR SOMEONE SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS HAPPENING. NOT ONLY IS THERE PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE PERSON, BUT ALSO MENTAL DAMAGE ABOUT DRIVING ANY CAR. WE BELIEVE THE ELECTRONICS ARE TO BLAME FOR THIS HAPPENING. WHAT ARE OUR OPTIONS? WE CANNOT FIND ANYONE TO TAKE THE CASE. PLEASE ADVISE, THANKS. *TR

Negative 2007 Toyota Matrix car reviews
Positive 2007 Toyota Matrix car reviews

I absolutely love driving my Matrix on trips and around town! While the gas mileage is just okay, I find that there is plenty of room, especially when the rear seats are down. The only thing that would make it even better is if there was a mat to cover the whole cargo area. I've read many reviews on the car, but I haven't seen my pet peeve mentioned yet - the lack of a roof rack option. Unfortunately, it's very expensive to fit this car with a roof rack. Despite this, I still consider the Matrix to be my number one car due to its overall performance, gas mileage, and especially its handling.
-
If you're in search of a vehicle that offers a combination of cargo room, gas mileage, styling, and performance, the Matrix is the logical choice. It's more sporty-looking than the Vibe, in my opinion. If you want to look good while saving at the pump, it's either this or a mini-cooper. You can probably fit the mini-cooper in the back of your Matrix if you fold down your back seats, but all you need to fit inside are two bicycles, so no problem. If you're like most people and don't really need an SUV, the Matrix is the smart mpg alternative. The manual transmission is more fun to drive, but I find the automatic to be more convenient in traffic. While it's not a sports car, it still offers decent power, especially compared to other 4 bangers.
-
I'm so glad to hear that you walked away unharmed after your 2005 Matrix was T-boned on the driver's side by a minivan running a red light at 50 mph. It's great to know that the side impact safety features worked so well that you decided to purchase another Matrix (2007). The manual transmission's city MPG of 29-30 is impressive, and I love that the seat raises to accommodate your height. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with the Matrix!
-
A true Toyota. Solid build quality, cutting edge styling and outstanding fuel economy. Already averaging over 30 mpg and it's not broken in yet! Cut my gas bill in half instantly! Comfortable, excellent stereo and tons of fun to drive. Pinch me!
-
Congratulations on your new purchase! It sounds like you made a great choice with the 2007 base model w/ 5-spd and the 'M Theory' package. With 36000 miles, it seems like you got a great deal. It's impressive that you were able to get 31 MPG cruising at 77 MPH with the AC on intermittently, and even better that you got 35 MPG cruising at 71 MPH with the AC on full time. It's great to hear that you're enjoying the way it handles and finding it to be a very useful car for parking, cargo, and cost. While the 'M Theory' package may be purely for looks, it's still a bright and eye-catching addition to your car. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Despite the issues I experienced with my car, I remained confident in my assessment of the situation. The 'check engine' indicator appeared on my dash with only 15K miles, but I knew there was nothing wrong with the engine. The dash dial also began to malfunction, but I was informed by the dealer that it needed to be replaced for $2K, despite the car having less than 40K miles. I was also able to identify the acceleration problem before it was widely known, despite attempts by the dealer to blame it on my mat being caught under the accelerator. Today, I took the necessary steps to replace the airbag, which had the potential to cause fatal injuries. Overall, I remained confident in my ability to handle these issues and make informed decisions about my car.

I bought my 2007 Matrix XR brand new, and no one else even test drove it. I have driven it for 30,000 miles, and so far, at less than 20,000 miles, they had to resurface the rotors, but the pads are just fine. They then replaced the belt, followed by the water pump and the belt again! Unfortunately, today it died while I was driving down the road, and it's currently in the shop. I don't know yet what the latest problem is, but of course, it is out of warranty now. On the bright side, the car style is great for hauling stuff. I love the fold-down back and passenger seats, and I appreciate that the window in the back opens without having to open the entire back.

I bought this car because of Toyota's reputation for reliability and good mileage. I mostly use it for running my kids around town. Although it seems a little cheap inside for the cost, I'm still happy with my purchase. I'm used to driving nicer cars like Volvo and BMW, but this one gets the job done.

My husband and I purchased this car about 3 and a half years ago. We decided to downsize from an SUV to counterbalance the rising gas prices at the time. I had done my research and found that the car had good reliability and very few major complaints such as transmission issues or malfunctions. This still holds true today, so if you're looking for a reliable car, this is the one for you. However, I didn't consider the handling, especially in the snow, as we live near the mountains. The car has fantastic storage space and is comfortable for long road trips. The fuel efficiency is also decent. After reading additional reviews, I agree with many that the paint chips easily, the interior scratches easily, and the clutch is difficult to use. I have driven manual cars my whole life, but I still struggle with this one. The engine is weak, but that was expected since I wanted a car with better gas mileage. However, the combination of the weak engine and difficult clutch makes driving in the snow a nightmare. Despite having snow tires, I still have trouble getting traction. I have to start in second gear, and even then, it's not always reliable. Other front-wheel-drive cars seem to handle better in the snow. Overall, the car is roomy, has great storage, and is ideal for road trips. However, it may not be the best option for those who frequently drive in snowy conditions.Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with the Terra. While it may not be the best in the snow or rain, I did find that it had some great features. However, I did notice that the clutch could use some improvement and the paint and interior quality could be better. Just thought I'd share my thoughts with you!
