2007 Jeep Wrangler problems

The Jeep Wrangler is a series of compact and mid-size four-wheel drive off-road SUVs manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and currently in its fourth generation. The Wrangler JL, the most recent generation, was unveiled in late 2017 and is produced at Jeep's Toledo Complex.

The Wrangler is a direct progression from the World War II Jeep, through the CJ (Civilian Jeeps) produced by Willys, Kaiser-Jeep, and American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the mid-1940s through the 1980s. Although neither AMC nor Chrysler (after it purchased AMC in 1987) have claimed that the Wrangler was a direct descendant of the original military model — both the CJ Jeeps and the conceptually consistent Wrangler, with their solid axles and open top, have been called the Jeep model as central to Jeep's brand identity as the rear-engine 911 is to Porsche.

Similar to the Willys MB and the CJ Jeeps before it, all Wrangler models continue to use a separate body and frame, rigid live axles both front and rear, a tapering nose design with flared fenders, a fold-flat windshield and can be driven without doors. Also, with few exceptions, they have part-time four-wheel drive systems, with the choice of high and low gearing, and standard open bodies with removable hard or soft tops. However, the Wrangler series was specifically redesigned to be safer and more comfortable on-road, to attract more daily drivers, by upgrading its suspension, drivetrain, and interior, compared to the CJ line. The suspension on all Wranglers included trackbars and anti-roll bars, and, from the 1997 TJ onwards, front and rear coil springs instead of the previous leaf springs.

From 2004 on, the Wrangler has been complemented with long-wheelbase versions, called Wrangler Unlimited. 2004-2006 models were longer versions with 2 doors. In 2004 only automatic transmission-equipped “Unlimited” versions were sold. In 2005 both an automatic and manual 6-speed (NSG-370) were offered. Since 2007, the long-wheelbase Wranglers were four-door models, offering over 20 in (508 mm) more room. By mid-2017 the four-door models represented three-quarters of all new Wranglers on the market.

I've heard of the death wobble and I'm pretty sure this is what's happening. I have an appointment Tuesday August 24 to put a new stabilizer on it. Has there been a recall on my jeep that wasn't fixed properly. It's a dangerous situation when it happens because I have no control over my vehicle at all. I've been lucky so far that it's happened in places that there were no other vehicles in front of me. There's no way I could stop if there was. I have no way of knowing if the stabilizer will fix the problem.

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-11-20
  • VIN: 1j4fa241x7l
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,STRUCTURE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I bought my 2007 Jeep Wrangler in November 2020. It had approximately 122,000 miles on it and has the 6 speed manual transmission. After driving it for 7 days, I was backing out of a parking spot and heard a loud squeal and was unable to shift gears. It had to have the clutch replaced along with the flywheel and several other clutch associated parts. The total was $1,600. The salesman at the dealership where I bought it told me as I was buying it that there is no warranty but if something happens in the first couple of weeks that he would work with us. Of course he did NOT help me. He wouldn't even return my phone calls. Whatever, buyer beware! Second issue is of course the fuel spit back problem. Every time I fill up, I end up with gas on the Jeep and on the ground. I love wasting money like that. There is apparently a recall on this issue but your website says my vehicle has no recalls. Third issue is all the door hinges are rusting really bad. I saw that there were several service bulletins on the proper procedures for replacing those hinges. Those should be replaced by the dealer at no cost.

THE WELL KNOWN FAILURE OF THE TIMP IN CHRYSLER VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY ALL JEEP WRANGLER SERIES DATING AS FAR BACK AS 2006, HAVE NOT BEEN ADDRESSED NOR FIXED BY CHRYSLER. THIS TIMP FAILURE IS A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS AN IMMEDIATE RECALL FORCED UPON CHRYSLER/DAIMLER/JEEP. MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER JKU TIMP QUIT WORKING, WHILST I WAS DRIVING. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT OF WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN INJURY, AND/OR DEATH. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO PHYSICALLY THROUGH THE DISABLED POWER STEERING TO STOP VEHICLE. THROUGH MY RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE PLAGUING NEARLY EVERY JEEP WRANGLER PRODUCED. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE NOW TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with Jeep Wranglers. I've owned four of them over the years, but I have to say that I've been a bit disappointed with the lack of attention to some long-standing complaints. That being said, if you're in the market for a vehicle that can be towed behind a motorhome, the Wrangler is still a great option. However, if you're looking for something with a bit more all-around performance, you might want to check out the FJ Cruiser. It seems to be a superior choice in many ways.

I really appreciate everything about the JEEP, but I have had some trouble with the steering damper. Unfortunately, JEEP recognizes this as a flaw but has not taken any action to address it. Even though I purchased the care plus extended warranty, I had to pay out of pocket for the second time. When I called JEEP, they apologized for my problem but could not offer a solution. It would be great if they could stand behind their product.

At 50,000 miles, unfortunately, the automatic transmission (torque converter) failed along with other internal parts. Despite following all manufacturer service/maintenance schedules, I experienced multiple problems, the most serious being the 'death wobble'. Despite multiple attempts by the dealership and other trusted mechanics, the issue could not be resolved, and I had to get rid of the vehicle due to safety concerns. This was the most regretful automotive purchase I have ever made. Although I have owned Jeeps prior to this one, this experience was the worst.

Although I enjoyed driving my Rubicon and appreciated its performance in the snow, I had to trade it in for a new SUV due to numerous quality control issues. Despite having only 40k miles, it had several recalls, ball joint problems, gasket leaks, power module failure, and rust spots on the body. These issues made it difficult for me to keep the car for a long time. I am confident that my new SUV will be much more reliable and better suited to my needs. However, I believe that my Rubicon could still serve as a great second car.

This 2007 4 door 4x4 automatic V6 has been a disappointment. It feels sluggish both off-road and in town. However, it does handle freeway speeds of 70 MPH with ease. Despite being trail rated, it burns about a quart of oil every 1000 miles since 22000 miles, which is quite concerning. Although there is no visible oil on the engine or underneath the jeep, it always requires a lot of oil. Chrysler claims that this is normal and refuses to take any action. This is not acceptable, especially when compared to my other vehicles that have over 200K miles and only burn 1/2 quart every 7500 miles. I am extremely dissatisfied with this and will not be purchasing another Chrysler product again. I wish someone else owned it. If you search the internet, you will find that this is a common problem.

Congratulations on your new 2007 Rubicon! It's great to hear that you're enjoying it so much. It's always tough to say goodbye to a beloved vehicle, but it sounds like the new Rubi is really impressing you. The added comfort and quietness must be a nice change, and it's great to hear that it's still performing well off-road. Thanks for sharing your experience with us, and happy driving!

  2. Geovanny Bartell 2024-11-12

I have driven my Rubicon through mud pits, up 50 degree slopes, up rock banks after driving through rivers and almost nothing has stopped it. Although its gas mileage is not as good as my old BMW, getting around 15 miles to the gallon, it's well worth the trade considering the hauling ability. By removing the back seat, I was able to haul 70 pumpkins in the back, putting my friend's F-250 to shame. The reliability is amazing as well, and it is extremely easy to change the oil and do minor work. I love putting all the Hummer owners to shame when they realize they spent 15,000 more on a vehicle nowhere near as good as my Rubicon.

Firstly, I'm happy to report that I get over 30 miles per gallon at 55mph! I opted for the 6-speed manual with rear-wheel drive and limited slip, and with the added traction control and ABS, it's definitely all you need in the South.

  4. Lonzo Connelly 2024-10-07

Our previous Jeep was a 98 Wrangler SE with a four-cylinder and a 5-speed manual. However, our new Jeep is a six-cylinder with a six-speed and we're getting better highway mileage at 70 mph than the four-banger ever did. Additionally, this Jeep is quieter and has full doors with roll-up windows. We haven't had any problems with it so far. While there is a lot of plastic on the interior, it's washable, so it's not a big deal. The plastic cladding over the bumpers is a bit un-Jeep-like, but everything else is pretty rugged. The sixteen-inch wheels are also a plus. We found that tall, skinny tires work best in the snow, and that's been our experience with the '07 as well. We recommend sticking with the factory wheels.

Congratulations on your new Jeep! It sounds like you made a great choice with the 4 door, 4wd X model. I'm glad to hear that it's comfortable to drive and that you're enjoying the removable top. The rescue green color sounds fantastic too! It's great that you're getting over 19 mpg and that everything feels solid and tight. I understand that the right foot space on the driver's side is a little cramped, but it's good to know that everyone else has plenty of room. I hope you have many more enjoyable drives in your new Jeep!
