The Jeep Wrangler is a series of compact and mid-size four-wheel drive off-road SUVs manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and currently in its fourth generation. The Wrangler JL, the most recent generation, was unveiled in late 2017 and is produced at Jeep's Toledo Complex.
The Wrangler is a direct progression from the World War II Jeep, through the CJ (Civilian Jeeps) produced by Willys, Kaiser-Jeep, and American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the mid-1940s through the 1980s. Although neither AMC nor Chrysler (after it purchased AMC in 1987) have claimed that the Wrangler was a direct descendant of the original military model — both the CJ Jeeps and the conceptually consistent Wrangler, with their solid axles and open top, have been called the Jeep model as central to Jeep's brand identity as the rear-engine 911 is to Porsche.
Similar to the Willys MB and the CJ Jeeps before it, all Wrangler models continue to use a separate body and frame, rigid live axles both front and rear, a tapering nose design with flared fenders, a fold-flat windshield and can be driven without doors. Also, with few exceptions, they have part-time four-wheel drive systems, with the choice of high and low gearing, and standard open bodies with removable hard or soft tops. However, the Wrangler series was specifically redesigned to be safer and more comfortable on-road, to attract more daily drivers, by upgrading its suspension, drivetrain, and interior, compared to the CJ line. The suspension on all Wranglers included trackbars and anti-roll bars, and, from the 1997 TJ onwards, front and rear coil springs instead of the previous leaf springs.
From 2004 on, the Wrangler has been complemented with long-wheelbase versions, called Wrangler Unlimited. 2004-2006 models were longer versions with 2 doors. In 2004 only automatic transmission-equipped “Unlimited” versions were sold. In 2005 both an automatic and manual 6-speed (NSG-370) were offered. Since 2007, the long-wheelbase Wranglers were four-door models, offering over 20 in (508 mm) more room. By mid-2017 the four-door models represented three-quarters of all new Wranglers on the market.

- Summary: I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that has a lifetime powertrain warranty. Since I purchased the vehicle in 2008 I have maintained it exactly as required to keep the warranty valid. This includes the 5 year lifetime warranty powertrain inspections which are performed every 5 years. I have documented proof of the inspections. In January 2024 my ABS brakes failed and I went to my local dealership where I purchased the vehicle. The dealership service department told me that my ABS module failed with a code of C2200 ABS Module Internal Failure. the part number is 68030936-AB. The dealership said they ordered the part from the manufacturer. Since January 09, 2024 I have called the dealership about the ABS module. They told me I could drive the vehicle and that it would brake, but the antilock brakes would not work. This ABS module also controls the Electronic Stability Program, and that does not work either. Chrysler has not manufactured the broken part. Chrysler sold me the vehicle with a lifetime powertrain warranty and this part is included in the warranty. However, Chrysler has failed to provide a replacement part or offered another vehicle to safely drive.

- Summary: ABS brakes not working on my Jeep. Was told by dealer that it needs a new ABS module, but nobody has the part. How can I drive my vehicle when my ABS brakes are not working and you don't provide the part to fix it? The one dealer in Texas that has the part jacked up the price for it. That is price gouging, which is against the law. Chrysler is and will be responsible for any accident cause due to this issue.

- Summary: On my 2008 jeep wrangler the driver’s rear drum hard brake line bursted completely and almost split in half, leaking fluid. The hard brake line follows the frame rail, and this breakage occurred at the 90° bend above the transmission cross support. My safety, my passengers safety, as well as others on the road were at risk when the brake failure occurred. While operating the vehicle on a decline, brake pedal began to sink to the floor and the “brake” e-brake warning indicator began flashing and dinging. There were no prior indications of the issue. Thankfully I was able to slow down my vehicle by shifting down and using my e-brake. Had vehicle towed and Private mechanic inspected and performed repairs, mopar/Chrysler no longes makes this part and a custom bent hard line had to be created. Attempted to contact Chrysler 3 times regarding the safety issue this posed, they referred me to the dealer 1st call. I spoke with a mechanic at my local dealer whom agreed with me that the hard line had no reason to break given the location of the damage and that it’s a non-wear item. The Mechanic suggested i call back the 1-800 number to continue with reporting my safety concerns to the manufacturers as there was nothing he could do at the dealership. 2nd call, the new representative also told me to call the dealer and when i asked for a supervisor to report my safety concerns, she hung up on me. The third call the rep said the exact same thing, however he sated a supervisor would call me back. I haven’t received a call back for a week.

Car was in idle and was shifted to drive and automatically accelerated rapidly without foot on gas pedal and breaks did not work when breaks were forcefully applied during the incident. The car crashed into a house deck and went off the cement pad and crashed into trees in the yard. Unable to remove key from ignition, had to be placed in neutral to remove key. We had the car for less than an hour after purchase. Damage was sustained to the deck and significant damage to car, air bags did not deploy. Claim was immediately filed with insurance.

An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM owners. Mitsubishi owners will be notified by their company. Dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S43. Note: This recall supersedes recall 14V-7700.

- Consequence: Failure of the air bag circuit may prevent the driver's frontal air bag from deploying in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating airbag deployment, a broken electrical circuit in the airbag clockspring wiring assembly can lead to non-deployment of the driver-side frontal airbag and will not be able to properly protect the driver, increasing the risk of injuries.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the clockspring and add a steering wheel dust shield, free of charge. The recall began on June 10, 2013. This vehicle is a blast to drive and it always turns heads, so get ready for some questions, especially about the price. It seems like people think it costs more than it actually does, which is a great value. The only thing I would mention is that the armrests on both the door and console are not in the most comfortable position for me. I'm 5'8

I hope you're enjoying your new JEEP! It's always fun to walk up to it and feel like you're about to play with a big toy. Regarding the leaking issue, I believe there was a notice about the freedom tops leaking due to inadequate weather stripping, but that's what warranties are for! As for the gas, I don't think anyone who buys a Wrangler is overly worried about shelling out for it. Keep Jeepin' and waving!

Convertible sports car owners, you've got some competition! The open-air driving experience doesn't get any better than this...and the best part? No need to worry about getting a ticket for racing anyone. It's such a relief not having to worry about road conditions limiting your adventures when the great outdoors are calling. Gone are the days of having to rely on friends with high clearance vehicles and 4x4's to take you to hiking and biking trailheads. Now, I'm like a dog in the back of a pickup truck, smiling the whole time, and I go when I want. I have a Sahara with all the bells and whistles because I love the fenders that match the body color. It's the perfect way to travel in style with a very capable vehicle.

You got a fantastic deal! I'm glad to hear that you love the choice in colors and models. I recommend getting the hard top 3 piece, as it has no leaks so far. The gas mileage is okay, averaging at 18.5. It's great that you're planning to put a cold air intake and spacer to improve fuel consumption. The Jeep is fun to drive, looks great, and can go anywhere off-road. There's plenty of room in the back seat and cargo area, and the stereo rocks! For those who want more zoom, I suggest buying a car. After all, it's a Jeep!

I love my Jeep! The ride is fantastic, but I have noticed that the inside of the doors get scratched easily. Unfortunately, the dealers in Virginia don't provide as much support as those in bigger cities like Michigan. I have the six-speed manual, and while it's great, it can be a bit jumpy in second gear when it's cold out. I've added some chrome accessories like a bumper, side boards, gas cap, and mud flaps, and now everyone says it looks like a Hummer. Overall, I'm really happy with my Jeep!

Congratulations on your 7th new Jeep purchase! The 4 door concept is really great, especially for travelling with the added cargo area. While the gas mileage may not be the best, it's still better than many other SUVs out there. It's great to hear that you enjoy driving it. However, it's important to be aware of the Death Wobble issue that you experienced while driving on a 5 lane Highway. It's fortunate that you were able to avoid a big crash. Additionally, the rear disc brakes may overheat on occasion, which can cause both calipers and rotors to need replacement. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Although this vehicle has been in production for a long time, there are some areas that could use improvement. One of the biggest concerns is the lack of power, with only around 202 horsepower compared to the 250-300 horsepower of most V6 engines. Additionally, the lack of a hood latch can be dangerous, as the hood can slam up and down on windy days or when a truck passes by. The soft top can also be difficult to remove and put back on. Overall, there is room for improvement, but it's important to note that this vehicle has a rich history as an American icon.

At 54k miles, the dealership is recommending replacement of the shocks and steering damper due to seepage and leakage, respectively, at a cost of $800. However, I have experienced similar issues with my previous Jeep models, including repeated leakage from the hard top and doors despite multiple trips to the service department. While the service manager claimed that this was a common issue, I was not satisfied with this response and ultimately had to go through a buy-back process. Despite these challenges, I was able to resolve the leakage problem with heavy-duty gaskets. Additionally, I experienced the 'death wobble' issue, which was also resolved through replacement of the steering stabilizer. As a result, I am confident in my ability to address any issues that may arise with my Jeep and will make an informed decision regarding the recommended repairs.

Congratulations on your new 08 x Wrangler! As a Jeep enthusiast who has owned over twenty Jeeps, including cj's, yj's, and tj's, I can understand your concerns about the fuel economy and power. However, I believe that the Jeep is perfect in every other way. While the 4.0 was an excellent engine, I appreciate the effort to innovate and improve. I'm sure the engineers had good reasons for replacing it. Overall, I think your Jeep is amazing, and I wish you many happy adventures with it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
