2000 Lexus Es300 problems
The Lexus ES (Japanese: レクサス・ES, Hepburn: Rekusasu ES) is a series of mid-size executive cars marketed since 1989 by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, across multiple generations, each offering V6 engines and a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The first five generations of the ES used the Toyota Camry platform, while the latter generations are more closely related to both the Camry and the Avalon. Manual transmissions were offered until 1993, a lower-displacement inline-four engine became an option in Asian markets in 2010, and a gasoline-electric hybrid version was introduced in 2012. The ES was Lexus's only front-wheel drive vehicle until 1998, when the related RX was introduced, and the sedan occupied the entry-level luxury car segment of the Lexus lineup in North America and other regions until the debut of the IS in 1999. The ES name stands for "Executive Sedan". However, some Lexus importers use the name, "Elegant Sedan".
Introduced in 1989, the first generation ES 250 was one of two vehicles in Lexus's debut range, along with the LS 400. The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.
Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. In Europe, Japan and other markets where it was not available until the seventh generation model, the GS sport sedans occupy the mid-size category in the Lexus lineup until it was cancelled August 2020. In the United States, the ES has been the best-selling Lexus sedan for over fifteen years.

Are Lexus ES300 reliable?
Super reliable, never had any maintenance issues.
I've owned this Lexus ES300 for 18 years (I'm the original owner). The car currently has 136,000 miles on it. This car is the best car I've ever owned. I take it for its regularly scheduled maintenance and that is really the only thing I do for it.
How many miles will a Lexus ES300 last?
Typically, the Lexus ES will last around 200,000 miles.
Are Lexus ES300 expensive to repair?
Lexus ES300 Repair: Service and Maintenance Cost. The annual maintenance cost of a Lexus ES300 is $424.
Are early 2000 Lexus reliable?

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-09-15
- VIN: JT8BF28G5Y0
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I JUST PAID $3,600 TO HAVE THE KNOCK SENSORS AND CONNECTING HARNESS REPLACED, AND A TRANSMISSION RE-BUILD, IN THIS CAR BECAUSE THE KNOCK SENSOR PROBLEM CAUSED THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM TO AUTOMATICALLY STOP WORKING ("TRAC OFF" LIGHT, NO OVERRIDE) AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO STAY ON. IT IS ALSO WHAT CAUSED MY TRANSMISSION TO NEED RE-BUILDING BECAUSE WHEN TRACTION CONTROL IS OFF, THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE, AND THIS DESTROYS THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER REPLACING AND REPAIRING THESE, THE PROBLEM RECURRED WITHIN 2 WEEKS. AFTER TO SPEAKING TO A NUMBER OF PEOPLE, AND TRYING TO FIND OUT WHY THE PROBLEM RECURRED, I WAS TOLD, AND YOU CAN FIND ALL OVER THE INTERNET, THAT 1998-2002 LEXUS ES300S AND TOYOTA CAMRYS WITH THE V-6 ENGINE HAVE THIS PROBLEM CONTINUOUSLY AND OWNERS ARE PAYING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO TRY TO SOLVE IT WITH NO LUCK. ONE TOYOTA MECHANIC TOLD ME, OFF THE RECORD OF COURSE, THAT THE SENSORS IN THESE YEARS HAD SENSITIVITY ISSUES THAT WERE CORRECTED STARTING IN 2003. OF COURSE, DEALERSHIPS REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, AND WANT TO CHARGE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN DIAGNOSTIC FEES TO TELL YOU IT WILL COST THOUSANDS TO FIX, AND THEN THE PROBLEM RECURS. I THINK THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED, AND THAT TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THESE SENSORS WITH A NEW SET THAT NO LONGER HAS THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM CAN OCCUR WHETHER THE CAR IS MOVING OR SITTING AT AN IDLE. TO ME, THE FACT THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM QUITS WORKING IS VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IN A CAR THAT THE DRIVER IS USED TO DRIVING WITH THAT FEATURE. SEARCH "ES300 KNOCK SENSORS" ON THE WEB AND YOU WILL SEE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF POSTINGS BY FRUSTRATED OWNERS.

- Summary: I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD, AND MY 2000 LEXUS ES300 RPM WENT DOWN TO 0 AND SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY TRAFFIC. I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR PILEUP WITH INJURIES. I HAD TO BE PUSHED OUT OF TRAFFIIC CAR WOULDN'T START. AFTER, GETTING THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC THEY DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE, IT IS COSTLY TO REPLACE AND A PROBLEM WITH THAT MAKE AND MODEL 2000 LEXUS ES300. THIS IS A SERIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND I FOUND OUT A FAULTY IAC VALVE CAN CAUSE YOUR CAR TO STALL ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME. I AM THANKFUL NO ONE, AS WELL AS MYSELF WAS INJURED, BUT I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE NEXT PERSON THIS MAY HAPPEN TO. THE PART COST ABOUT 200 DOLLARS AND THE LABOR IS APPROXIMATELY 300 DOLLARS. THIS HAPPENED ON WED. 08/10/2011 AND THE PART HAS TO BE ORDERED DUE TO COST. AS A RESULT, NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE BECAUSE OF EXPENSE. THERE SHOULD REALLY BE A RECALL AND THIS A SAFETY HAZARD; ESPECIALLY IF THE DRIVER{S) BEHIND ME HAD BEEN SPEEDING OR NOT PAYING ATTENTION. *KB

MALFUNCTION FIRST OCCURRED DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND DEALER DID NOT SUGGEST REPLACEMENT PART DURING THAT TIME. NOT UNTIL AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED, DID LEXUS EXPRESS CONCERN FOR REPLACE OF PARTS. NOW THE ISSUE HAS AROSE AGAIN AND I DON'T FELL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY THE DEALER FOR ANY ADDITIONAL ISSUES ARISING FROM THE SAME MALFUNCTION. I HAVE ALL SERVICE REPORTS FROM THE DEALER TO DOCUMENT ALL OF THESE OCCASIONS AND MY SERVICE HISTORY FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE RELATED TO THE TRAC OFF & CK ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATING. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW FROM LEXUS OF WILMINGTON AND FEEL THEY SHOULD NOW TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS THAT, MOST LIKELY, SHOULD HAVE COMMENCED DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-09-10
- VIN: JT8BS28G9Y5
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: HAVE A 2000 ES300. RECENTLY, THE CHECK ENGINE/TRAC LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND AFTER A QUICK SCAN CODE PO446 WAS DISCOVERED. I STARTED BY TIGHTENING THE GAS CAP AND DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY; THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AFTER A WEEK. I HAVE TAKEN A LOOK AT THE VACUUM LINES AT THE CHARCOAL CANISTER AND UP UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE COVER. EVERYTHING LOOKS OK. I DO ALL MY OWN WORK, AND I HATE BEING A 'PARTS REPLACER'. I'D RATHER SOURCE THE EXACT PROBLEM AND FIX JUST THAT PARTICULAR PART. HAVING SAID THIS, MY RESEARCH ON THIS SITE HAS INDICATED THAT THE PO446 CODE COULD BE ONE OF MANY THINGS, INCLUDING THE CHARCOAL CANISTER ITSELF, THE VSV ATTACHED TO THE CANISTER, OR THE VACUUM VALVE UP UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE COVER. FIRST QUESTION: I WAS GOING TO REPLACE THE CHARCOAL CANISTER AT EXPENSIVE WAY? DOES ANYONE HERE KNOW IF THE ISSUE BEING RECALL AND THEY CAN REPLACE NEW OEM CHARCOAL CANISTER INCLUDES THE VSV VALVE? IF IT DOES, HOW CAN I GET THIS DONE. SECOND QUESTION: DO YOU THINK I AM WAY OFF BASE WITH MY INTENTION TO REPLACE THE CHARCOAL CANISTER NEXT? IF SO, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? OBVIOUSLY, I AM TRYING TO AVOID MY DEALER AT ALL COSTS. PERHAPS SOMEONE HERE COULD HELP IN MY QUEST TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. *TR

Good size and very comfortable. I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any problems with it.

Your car is not a second generation Acura Legend Coupe (the car the ES300 replaced), but then again, neither is my wife's 2003 Acura 3.2 CL Type S. I found the ES300 to be much more enjoyable to drive than what the buff magazines suggested. It seems like they reviewed the car without actually driving it. I understand your regret for trading in your 1995 Legend Coupe, but I think you will enjoy the ES300 for at least 10-12 years. You can always rotate the

I never thought I would like a car better than my 95 ES until I got this one. This is the best car I have ever owned. Lexus quality is second to none. The dealer was exceptional as before. A++++++++++ All the way around

I'm so glad to hear that you love the car! It's interesting that it seems to wait until it hits around 30mph to take off without punching it, but I'm glad you still like it a lot. The ride is so smooth and there's no noise. It's a fun and sporty drive, yet still soft and not like a sport suspension.

In only three years, unfortunately, the emission sensor went bad and did not pass the State of Virginia inspection. It costs $450 to replace, and the service is quite expensive from the Columbus Lexus dealer.
