2006 Jeep Liberty problems
The Jeep Liberty is a four door unibody compact SUV manufactured and marketed by Jeep for model years 2002–2012 over two generations, internally designated the KJ (2002-2007) and KK (2008-2012), respectively. Both generations were marketed globally, including as the Jeep Cherokee outside North America.
Introduced as a replacement for the Cherokee (XJ), the Liberty was priced between the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee and was the smallest of the 4-door Jeep SUVs until the car based 4-door Compass and Patriot arrived for 2007. Both generations were assembled at the Toledo North Assembly Plant in the United States and other countries including Egypt and Venezuela. The KK generation was manufactured alongside the closely related Dodge Nitro. Production ended in August 2012.
The Liberty was superseded by the Jeep Cherokee.

I checked online and this seems to be a known problem caused by the ethanol in the fuel reacting with a check valve. HAVING FUEL SHOOT OUT AT YOU EVERY TIME YOU FILL THE CAR IS DANGEROUS!!!

SUSPENSION PROBLEM

- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: The rear lower control arms on my car are about to break. One has holes all the way through. At 40 mph, vehicle shakes in back. Issue also causes stability control to malfunction. No Jeep dealers that I can use will make appointments before 06/27 even after being shown the terrible condition of the parts. Nor do they offer a loaner car. I contacted Jeep themselves and was offered NO manner of accommodation or compensation. I drive for a living, so I can either risk my safety, or give up two weeks income, and job, waiting for Jeep and it's dealers to fix defective equipment. If Jeep and their dealers are unable/unwilling to fix dangerous recalls in a timely manner, they should either afford customer a rental car, or offer to buy the vehicle at market value. I would have accepted either, and not filed this complaint, had I been offered.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-08-05
- VIN: 1J4GK48K46W
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE
- Summary: Hello, my name is Jamie Woodley. I'm filing this complaint on my 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport. Currently, there's a recall for the Suspension Rear lower control arms. I've read the previous recalls on it, which I saw this vehicle has been reprogrammed before. I've only had the vehicle for a few months and I've had an oil leak, bad thermostat, and the transmission is busted. I can't reverse or drive over 10 mph. I heard the transmission may be in Fail Safe mode. I had Midas do a full inspection, but they failed to acknowledge the lower control arms by suggesting brakes. I knew it wasn't the brakes. The technician drove the vehicle after the brakes were done, but I still heard/felt a problem with the Suspension. There is a recall for that from 2018. I purchased the vehicle last year in March 2020. Also, the rear lift gate was dented when I bought it like the vehicle may have been in an accident. This was a vehicle I purchased for my 2 kids and I. This vehicle has been giving me problems since I bought it. The back driver's side window won't go all the way up. I have to keep a stick in between just to keep the window from falling all the way in the door. Definitely not a safe vehicle. My Engine stalled out on the free way while I was on my way to pick up my kids. After my oil change, no oil light came on. I am seeking help with any buy back programs or a valued trade in appraisal. I have a quote from Conrad's on how much it's going to cost to fix it and the price is over $3,000. I have extended warranty, but am unsure if it will cover any service requests. That is pretty outrageous that it's going to cost that much to fix it. I've been at Take 5 to keep up on the maintenance and was told I had an oil leak somewhere. On top of the brakes, I've spent money on 4 new tires, 6 ignition coils, an O2 Sensor, and I bought a New PCM/ECU computer I have yet to have installed. Feel free to contact me at the information I've provided. I'd be truly grateful for any assistance. Thanks!
STEERING,SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-07-25
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1j4gk48k46w
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My back rear control arms/suspension/alignment were recalled, I had them replaced. Now My front control arms/suspension/alignment are very unsafe to drive. Wobbly, unstable, loose, noises, screeching. It Feels like it’s going to break/snap/fall off. Yes my vehicle is available for inspection. I feel unsafe on turns especially. It could snap at any moment and my Jeep could roll injuring me or others. I had a tire/allignment center check the status. No warning lights or messages. The sound and issue has been going on since I got my jeep recall fixed. The dealership hit the front of my Jeep in the parking lot and still has not taken responsibility for their actions and damages done to my Jeep. It was evaluated from Jeep’s body/auto shop estimating at outer damage 1,500$ + and they have not inspected the damage caused to the control arm/suspension/alignment from the employee hitting me Jeep into something moments before returning my Jeep from a recall-fix. Jeeo still has yet to take responsibility for the damages caused. I have not felt safe since then. The steering has been wobbly, the turns make noise and shudder like the wheel is going to break off/fall off or worse snap. I have tried numerous attempts to get these issues resolved with Jeep Liberty of San Diego Camino del rio s. With no responsibility taken from them for the damages they have caused making me Jeep unsafe to drive.

I love my little Liberty! It's so fun to drive and very comfortable. Although, I have had a bit of trouble with both rear window regulators going out. Currently, I'm holding them up with tape as money has been a little tight. It would have been nice if they could have at least gotten stuck closed. I worry someone might rob or take my Jeep when I park it somewhere.

I can totally relate to your experience of switching from a 2003 Jetta wagon to an SUV, but I'm so glad to hear that you're loving your new Liberty! It's great to hear that you're getting 20 MPG and enjoying the higher visibility. While the ride may be a bit bumpier than the Jetta, it's to be expected from an SUV. I'm glad to hear that the seats are comfortable and that the Liberty handles well with excellent power and responsive handling. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice and I'm thrilled that you're extremely happy with your Liberty!

I bought my jeep and I absolutely love it! It gets awesome mileage. Although, I have had a few issues with the windows and the CD player broke about a month after I bought it. I had to replace one of the passenger window regulators already and after reading all these consumer reviews, I seriously don't want to deal with another regulator going out. I'd rather spend my day off from work and school having fun instead of waiting for my jeep's windows to be repaired. Perhaps there should be a recall soon!

I am confident in my Jeep Liberty despite the negative reviews. Since February 2006, I have driven over 65,000 miles and have only encountered one issue with the back driver's side window, which I was able to fix with the help of a friend. Other than that, I have only needed to change the oil and one set of tires. The brakes are still original and the car continues to perform exceptionally well. I am excited to continue driving this car for the next 65,000 miles and beyond.

This is a reliable and durable high clearance road car. I have owned it for 10 years and have had very few issues or repairs. It has clocked 169,000 miles and receives regular maintenance. Although the radio stopped working a few years ago, I use my iPhone for audiobooks and a small speaker attached to the dash. Overall, it has been a great car to own!

During the first week, my car had to be towed due to a computer glitch. Unfortunately, in the second week, the gas gauge failed and in the third week, three pieces of trim fell off. To add to my frustration, the air conditioner failed in the fourth week. As someone who has owned four Grand Cherokees, I must say that the Liberty has been a real disappointment. Additionally, the driver's seat is too high for someone who is six feet tall to see out of the front window. Unfortunately, after only a month of ownership and 3300 miles of driving, I have come to dislike my new car. However, I am hopeful that things will improve in the future and I will consider trading it in a year down the road.

I absolutely adore my car! The design is fantastic and I love how high up I am. As my first SUV, I couldn't be happier with my choice. The 4x4 is great, especially selec tracs, which I prefer over all-time 4x4. The steering is incredibly responsive and the interior provides ample leg room for both the driver and passengers. I haven't had any issues with the windows so far, but I did get an extended warranty just in case. The only thing I wish it had was a sunroof. Overall, I'm thrilled with my purchase!

The paint job on the 65th anniversary model with the dark military green paint job is subpar. Even minor scratches leave permanent marks on the metal. The paint seems to be applied too thinly, making it very fragile.

I rarely use the back window and have had to replace the driver side rear window as it would not stay up. Unfortunately, the seat cover stains easily, even with water. Recently, I have noticed a loud noise coming from the rear end and have been informed that others have had to replace it. It seems that the dealer only wants to change fluids until the warranty expires, leaving the owner to replace the rear end. Has anyone else experienced this issue with their Jeep Liberty?

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the Renegade model with you. I purchased this model specifically to tow behind my motorhome and overall, it's been a great choice. However, I have been experiencing some issues with the ABS, ESP and related display light at around 35,000 miles. Even though I was not in a slippery road condition, these lights would display and force the brake system to respond as if I were. I live in Arizona where most days are dry and hot, so it was quite surprising. I took it to the dealership where it was purchased and they have been working on it for the past two years. Unfortunately, even after fourteen attempts, the lights still come on. I'm hoping we can find a solution soon. Thanks for listening!
