2015 Nissan Maxima problems
The Nissan Maxima is a car manufactured and marketed by Nissan and offered as Nissan's flagship sedan primarily in North America, the Middle East, South Korea, and China—and currently in its eighth generation. Having debuted for model year 1982 as the Datsun Maxima, it replaced the earlier Datsun 810. The name Maxima dates to the 1981 model year when Datsun marketed the upscale 810 as the 810 Maxima in North America. Like the 810, early versions of the Maxima had their origins in the Datsun/Nissan Bluebird. It is renamed to Nissan Maxima when the Datsun brand was phased out for the 1985 model year.
The Maxima was marketed as an upscale alternative to the Altima and prior to 1993, the Stanza, distinguished by features such as a premium interior and V6 engine. Most Maximas were built in Oppama, Japan, until North American assembly began in Smyrna, Tennessee for the 2004 model year.
For the US and Canada, Nissan ended production of the Maxima in July 2023.
Outside North America, the Maxima nameplate has also been applied to variants or trim levels of several other models.

The Nissan Maxima, a reliable four-door sedan known for its engine power and smooth ride, has been a popular choice for many car buyers. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues with the 2015 Nissan Maxima, based on complaints from owners.
- Leaking and Low-Pressure Air Conditioning Hose: A common problem with the 2015 Nissan Maxima is a leaking and low-pressure air conditioning hose. This issue can lead to reduced cooling efficiency and may require replacement of the hose.
- Transmission Malfunction and Failure: Transmission problems are another concern for 2015 Nissan Maxima owners. Some drivers have reported experiencing jerks when shifting, which can be caused by transmission malfunctions. These issues can lead to costly repairs, with an average cost to fix of $2,500 for the 2004 model year, which is the worst year for transmission problems in the Nissan Maxima lineup.
- Faulty Front-Seat Wire Harness: The 2015 Nissan Maxima has also been reported to have a faulty front-seat wire harness. This issue can cause the seat to become inoperable, requiring replacement of the harness.
- Power Steering Pump Leak: Although this issue is more common in older Nissan Maxima models (1995-2001), it is still worth mentioning. Power steering pump leaks can cause noisy and unstable steering, and if left unaddressed, can lead to deterioration and failure of the lower control arm bushing. This issue typically occurs around 120,000 miles and can cost between $400 and $1,000 to repair.
- Ignition Coil Failure: Ignition coil failure is a known issue in older Nissan Maxima models (1995-2002, 2004, 2007, and 2009). This problem can cause the check engine light to turn on and may damage other coils due to sparks sending feedback through the wiring harness. The average cost to replace an ignition coil is between $500 and $660, depending on labor and component pricing.
While these issues can be concerning, it is important to note that the Nissan Maxima has a high reliability score among sedans, and the 2014 model year is particularly praised for its reliability. When considering a Nissan Maxima, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and factor in potential repair costs.
