2010 Jeep Grand cherokee problems
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a range of mid-size SUVs produced by the American manufacturer Jeep. At its introduction, while most SUVs were still manufactured with body-on-frame construction, the Grand Cherokee has used a unibody chassis from the start.
Development
The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors Corporation (AMC) was designing a successor to the Jeep Cherokee. Three outside (non-AMC) designers—Larry Shinoda, Alain Clenet, and Giorgetto Giugiaro—were also under contract with AMC to create and build a clay model of the Cherokee XJ replacement, then known as the "XJC" project. However, the basic design for the Cherokee's replacement was well under way by AMC's in-house designers and the 1989 Jeep Concept 1 show car foretold the basic design.
As AMC began the development of the next Jeep in 1985, management created a business process that is now known as product lifecycle management (PLM). According to François Castaing, Vice President for Product Engineering and Development, the smallest U.S. automaker was looking for a way to speed up its product development process to compete better against its larger competitors. The XJC's development was aided by computer-aided design (CAD) software systems making the engineers more productive. Meanwhile, new communication systems allowed potential conflicts to be resolved faster, thus reducing costly engineering changes, because all drawings and documents were in a central database. The system was so effective that after Chrysler purchased AMC in 1987, it expanded the system throughout its enterprise, thus connecting everyone involved in designing and building products.
The Grand Cherokee thus became the first Chrysler-badged Jeep product. Development work for the new Jeep model continued and Chrysler's employees (after the 1987 buyout of AMC) were eager for a late-1980s release date; however, CEO Lee Iacocca was pushing for redesigned Chrysler minivans, thus delaying the Grand Cherokee's release until late 1992 as an Explorer competitor. Unlike the Explorer, the Grand Cherokee utilized monocoque (unibody) construction, whereas the Explorer was a derivative of the Ranger pickup with a separate body-on-frame. A Dodge-branded version was designed as a precaution should Jeep dealers struggle to handle so many Grand Cherokee units.
The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the 1992 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The vehicle that was driven was a Poppy Red Clear Coat 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ Laredo with a quartz cloth interior and high-back bucket seats. Then Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman Young, from the Jefferson North Assembly Plant on North Jefferson Avenue via a police escort to Cobo Hall, up the steps of Cobo Hall and through a plate glass window to show off the new vehicle. Sales of the 1993 model year Grand Cherokee began in April 1992.
Production of the Grand Cherokee started shortly afterward in the purpose-built Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, Michigan. European Grand Cherokees are manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr. The Grand Cherokee "played a significant part in reviving Chrysler's fortunes by moving it into the then-nascent market for high-margin sports utility vehicles."
Upon its introduction, it was the first full-scale manufacture of an automobile in the US using HFC-134a refrigerant in place of HCFC-12 for the HVAC system.

Common 2010 Jeep Grand cherokee problems
The 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been reported to have several common problems by its owners, which include vehicle rollaway, issues with the wireless ignition node module, rear track bar, and brake booster.
One of the most common problems reported is the potential for vehicle rollaway. This issue can occur if the vehicle is parked on a slope or if the parking brake is not properly engaged. This can lead to the vehicle rolling away, potentially causing damage or injury.
Another common problem is an issue with the wireless ignition node module. This module is responsible for controlling various functions in the vehicle, including the power windows and locks. If this module fails, it can lead to a variety of issues, including the inability to start the vehicle or the power windows and locks not functioning properly.
The rear track bar is also a common source of problems for the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This component helps to keep the rear suspension aligned, and if it becomes worn or damaged, it can lead to a variety of issues, including poor handling and uneven tire wear.
Finally, the brake booster is another common source of problems for this vehicle. The brake booster is responsible for amplifying the force applied to the brake pedal, making it easier to stop the vehicle. If the brake booster fails, it can lead to a hard brake pedal, making it difficult to stop the vehicle.
These are just a few of the common problems reported by owners of the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While these issues can be frustrating, they are generally not safety-critical and can often be addressed through routine maintenance and repairs. However, it is important for owners to be aware of these potential issues and to have their vehicle inspected regularly to ensure that it remains safe and reliable.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-06-10
- VIN: 1J4RR5GT0AC
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Driving 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee with HEMI engine on the freeway and the car lost engine power causing it to rapidly slow. Was able to make it safely to the side of the freeway, although multiple cars had to avoid, and had the car towed to our mechanic. The mechanic stated that the car needed an entire new engine as there were issues with the timing chain that then caused issues to the surrounding valves. In doing research, as this car only has 98,000 miles and is always serviced, I found that Chrysler has already recalled the Challengers with the same 5.7L HEMI engines, but has not done so for the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee's. We are at a loss and looking at $8,000-$10,000 to get a new engine and pay for labor. Currently looking for an attorney or an existing class action lawsuit as if we knew there were problems, we would have done things ahead of time to prevent the engine failure. There was NO WARNING provided on this issue, but have now found multiple individual complaints about the same issue on the internet. Please advise.

DROVE IT FOR OVER 40 MILES AND TOOK IT TO THE SAME PLACE FOR SMOG AND AGAIN OBD11 NOT READY. I SPOKE TO BAR AND THEY CAN'T FIGURE THIS OUT. I NOW HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE REF AND THEY NOTED THAT THEY CAN PASS ME DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF MONEY I'VE SPENT TRYING TO CORRECT THIS OBD11 NOT READY. I EVEN REPLACED THE UPSTREAM OXYGEN SENSORS FOR NO REASON. I HAD A DIAGOSTIC PERFORMED AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THIS OXYGEN SENSOR ISSUE?
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-05-10
- VIN: 1J4RR5GT0AC
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DOWN A HILL AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES AND HOUR, ECO MODE WAS ACTIVATED, AND BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN THE LIGHT WHEN SUDDENLY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. I FELT MY CAR LOSING POWER AND STEERING, BUT THANKFULLY WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE IT TOTALLY SHUT OFF. I HAD IT TOWED TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY INSPECTED IT AND INFORMED ME THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE. THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE AND INFORMED ME IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE THAT THIS HAPPENED DUE TO NORMAL USE OF THE VEHICLE. THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE CHAIN, TENSIONERS, ETC., WHICH I HAD THEM DO, BUT THEY WENT TO TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE VALVES. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I CAME ACROSS THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE, OCCURRING UNDER THE SAME OR SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES, IN DODGE CHALLENGERS AND CHARGERS WITH THE SAME ENGINE (5.7L V8 HEMI) IN THE SAME YEAR (2010). I SAW THAT THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL FOR THOSE VEHICLES AND CALLED JEEP TO DISCUSS THIS, BUT THEY INFORMED ME THAT WHILE THIS WAS THE SAME THING, THERE WAS NO OPEN RECALLS FOR MY GRAND CHEROKEE AND SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *TR

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-11-27
- VIN: 1J4RS5GTXAC
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING ON I20 IN ATLANTA.IN THE LEFT LANE, OF AT LEAST 6 LANES AT 70 MPH. MY ENGINE JUST STOPPED IN HEAVY, HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. I MOVED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AS CAR FLEW BY, FLASHING LIGHTS AND BLOWING THEIR HORNS AND WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED SEVERAL TIMES. THE JEEP WAS HAULED TO A DEALER WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT MY TIMING CHAIN HAD BROKEN AND HAD SEVERELY DAMAGED MY ENGINE WITH 95,760 MILES SHOWING. I LOVE MY JEEP. IT IS IN EXCELLENT COND. AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED IT TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS, 3,000 MILE MOBILE 1 OIL CHANGES, ALONG WITH ALL OTHER RECOMMENDED SERVICES. CHRYSLER HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS TIMING CHAIN PROBLEM AND RECALLED OTHER, SAME YEAR MODELS INCLUDING THE 300, THE CHARGER AND THE CHALLENGER ALL WITH THE SAME ENGINE. THE RECALL IS # P01. HAD I KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM I WOULD HAVE HAD THE RECOMMENDED REPAIRS DONE THAT WOULD HAVE COST A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR PARTS AND 5 TO 6 HOURS LABOR. INSTEAD, I HAD TO PAY OVER $7,000. FOR THE ENGINE REPAIRS. ABOUT AS MUCH AS MY CAR IS ACTUALLY WORK! YES THIS WAS EXPENSIVE BUT MORE IMPORTANT WAS THE "WHERE AND HOW" THIS HAPPENED. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS HIGH SPEED, TRAFFIC SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE EASILY PRODUCED A HUGE, REAR ENDING TRAGIC ACCIDENT AND LOSE OF PROPERTY AND/OR LIVES. WHY DID CHRYSLER NOT WARN OWNERS OF THE 2010 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH THIS DANGEROUS, EXPLOSIVE ENGINE PROBLEM THAT THEY KNEW WAS GOING TO HAPPEN? THEIR RECALL INCLUDED SOME 50,000 OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE. WERE THEIR LIVES MORE VALUABLE THAN MINE? SHAME ON CHRYSLER AND WHATEVER REASONING THEY USED TO PUT ME AND THE OTHER OWNERS OF THE 2010 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 5.7 AT RISK. IF IT HASN'T HAPPENED TO DATE, SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED DUE TO THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER. PLEASE HELP MY TO FORCE CHRYSLER TO INCLUDE THESE CARS IN THEIR RECALL. THESE OWNERS ARE IN DANGER!

- Summary: HELLO, MY NAME IS [XXX] AND I OWN A 2010 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 5.7L HEMI HERE IN KUWAIT. I HAVE BEEN WORKING IN KUWAIT SUPPORTING THE WARFIGHTER SINCE 2007. I PURCHASED MY NICE WELL MAINTAINED JEEP IN FEBRUARY 2018. I JUST REACHED 82,000 MILES AND ON MONDAY SEPTEMBER 2 2019 I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AROUND 60-70MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A VERY SUBTLE NOISE AND I LOOKED AT MY DASH TO SEE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ANOTHER LIGHT. AT THAT POINT I HAD NO POWER AND I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. I TRIED RESTARTING AND COULD HEAR THE STARTER TURNING OVER BUT IT DIDN'T START BACK UP. ONCE I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE I TRIED AGAIN AND STILL NOTHING. IT WAS TURNING OVER WITH NO BAD SOUNDS AND SEEMED LIKE IT WAS TURNING OVER EASILY. I HAD THE JEEP TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHERE THEY FOUND 4 CYLINDERS HAD NO COMPRESSION. THEY REMOVED THE HEADS TO FIND SOME VALVES WERE VISIBLY BENT. WHEN THEY TRIED TURNING THE CRANK BY HAND THEY FOUND THE CAM WAS NOT MOVING. UPON OPENING THE FRONT COVER THE TIMING CHAIN HAD ACTUALLY FAILED AND WAS BROKEN. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED TO SAY THE LEAST. I WAS HOPING TO HAVE A NICE CAR FOR A WHILE AND THIS JEEP WAS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING AND FOUND THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THE SAME ENGINE IN OTHER MOPAR VEHICLES AND WAS HOPING TO GET SOME INSIGHT IF MY JEEP LIKE OTHERS I HAVE READ ABOUT WOULD BE ABLE TO GO UNDER THAT RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I THINK ITS SOMETHING WITH THE TENSIONER ON THE RECALL THAT ENDS UP WIPING OUT THE TIMING CHAIN. I DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ONLY PUT LIKE 3 VEHICLES IN THE RECALL BUT IF ITS THE SAME ENGINE WHY NOT FIX THEM ALL. I REALLY LIKE MY JEEP AND HOPE TO GET MORE INFO OF THE RECALL. RESPECTFULLY, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

Overall, this is a great vehicle with impressive power and better than expected fuel efficiency. However, we have had some trouble with the tires as they have been easily damaged on even simple gravel roads. Unfortunately, we have been unable to find suitable replacements for the 18

I'm so glad to hear that you've been enjoying the Jeep GC Limited diesel! It's great to know that you're getting outstanding power while still achieving great mileage per gallon. The 2007 Jeep really seems to offer a lot of value for your money. I completely agree that the fit and finish are excellent. It's interesting that you mention the diesel - perhaps there should be a separate category for it? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

This is my only disappointment with my first Jeep. Unfortunately, the auto off for lights is not standard and cannot be added. I completely understand your frustration, as I haven't had to pay attention to turning off lights for YEARS. This could have been a deal breaker if I had realized prior to purchase.

I purchased a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee brand new with only 4 miles on it. The first year went smoothly, but unfortunately, during my second year of ownership with 30,000 miles on it, my Jeep has required frequent visits to the repair shop. I have had to replace the ERG valve, ABS sensor, and unclog the drain tubes from the moon roof. One day, while driving, I hit the brakes and water poured out of my overhead lights. However, I am grateful that all of these repairs were covered under the factory warranty. I only have 2000 miles left before the warranty expires, and the dealer has suggested that I trade it in for a 2011 Compass. While I am considering my options, I may explore other brands such as the Honda CRV. Thank you for your understanding.

I purchased my first Jeep back in 2001 and drove it for over 250k miles. Unfortunately, I was involved in a bad accident and had to replace it. I decided to go for a 2010 model, which is a limited edition. Although I enjoy driving this vehicle, it does have a few faults. The throttle response on the engine is poor, which can make it slow to get going. At 60k miles, the exhaust rotted off and I had to go to an aftermarket supplier as Chrysler didn't have any replacements available. The dashboard lights have also been failing on a regular basis, and the A/C switch-over mechanism failed, leaving my passenger with warm air. Both driveshafts have failed, and again, no parts were available from Chrysler. The easy exit seat also failed at 70k miles, and the moon roof has an electrical quirk that causes it to close oddly. Additionally, the side mirror has an electrical failure, and the key fobs are not very reliable. The check engine light is also on frequently for O2 sensors, and dealerships don't always perform the requested work, instead looking for more profitable fixes. However, the JGC is still fun to drive and tows very well. The best thing about the JGC is the marketing. I am considering a Tundra for my next vehicle.

Although I have experienced some challenges with this vehicle, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience in maintaining it. I have replaced the timing belts and the starter multiple times, but I have learned how to do it efficiently. While it may not be the most reliable vehicle, it has taught me a lot about car maintenance and repair.

I recently had some issues with my 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, including a new water pump and a crack in a gasket. Unfortunately, I have also been experiencing some engine problems, which is disappointing. Despite my best efforts to maintain the vehicle, it has not been as reliable as I had hoped. I am considering other options for my next vehicle, but I will continue to take good care of my Jeep in the meantime. I appreciate you taking the time to listen to my experience. Thank you.

Congratulations on your new Laredo 3.7 ltr! As a loyal Chevy man, it's great to hear that you're open to trying new things. It's good to know that your initial driving experience has been positive. Although you mentioned that the back seat area seems a little tight and it doesn't seem to be as solid as the Chevy Equinox, it's still a nice looking vehicle. It's understandable that you'll need more time to fully evaluate it. Thank you for sharing your initial thoughts and we look forward to hearing more from you in the future!
