2015 Jeep Grand cherokee problems
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a range of mid-size SUVs produced by the American manufacturer Jeep. At its introduction, while most SUVs were still manufactured with body-on-frame construction, the Grand Cherokee has used a unibody chassis from the start.
Development
The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors Corporation (AMC) was designing a successor to the Jeep Cherokee. Three outside (non-AMC) designers—Larry Shinoda, Alain Clenet, and Giorgetto Giugiaro—were also under contract with AMC to create and build a clay model of the Cherokee XJ replacement, then known as the "XJC" project. However, the basic design for the Cherokee's replacement was well under way by AMC's in-house designers and the 1989 Jeep Concept 1 show car foretold the basic design.
As AMC began the development of the next Jeep in 1985, management created a business process that is now known as product lifecycle management (PLM). According to François Castaing, Vice President for Product Engineering and Development, the smallest U.S. automaker was looking for a way to speed up its product development process to compete better against its larger competitors. The XJC's development was aided by computer-aided design (CAD) software systems making the engineers more productive. Meanwhile, new communication systems allowed potential conflicts to be resolved faster, thus reducing costly engineering changes, because all drawings and documents were in a central database. The system was so effective that after Chrysler purchased AMC in 1987, it expanded the system throughout its enterprise, thus connecting everyone involved in designing and building products.
The Grand Cherokee thus became the first Chrysler-badged Jeep product. Development work for the new Jeep model continued and Chrysler's employees (after the 1987 buyout of AMC) were eager for a late-1980s release date; however, CEO Lee Iacocca was pushing for redesigned Chrysler minivans, thus delaying the Grand Cherokee's release until late 1992 as an Explorer competitor. Unlike the Explorer, the Grand Cherokee utilized monocoque (unibody) construction, whereas the Explorer was a derivative of the Ranger pickup with a separate body-on-frame. A Dodge-branded version was designed as a precaution should Jeep dealers struggle to handle so many Grand Cherokee units.
The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the 1992 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The vehicle that was driven was a Poppy Red Clear Coat 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ Laredo with a quartz cloth interior and high-back bucket seats. Then Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman Young, from the Jefferson North Assembly Plant on North Jefferson Avenue via a police escort to Cobo Hall, up the steps of Cobo Hall and through a plate glass window to show off the new vehicle. Sales of the 1993 model year Grand Cherokee began in April 1992.
Production of the Grand Cherokee started shortly afterward in the purpose-built Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, Michigan. European Grand Cherokees are manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr. The Grand Cherokee "played a significant part in reviving Chrysler's fortunes by moving it into the then-nascent market for high-margin sports utility vehicles."
Upon its introduction, it was the first full-scale manufacture of an automobile in the US using HFC-134a refrigerant in place of HCFC-12 for the HVAC system.

Common 2015 Jeep Grand cherokee problems
The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been reported to have several common problems, based on complaints from owners. These issues include transmission being sluggish, automatic headlights not working, and engine control module failures.
Transmission being sluggish is a prevalent issue in the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This problem is characterized by improper shifting, vibrations when engaged, or difficulty engaging the car in drive mode.
Another common problem with 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee models is their automatic headlights not working properly. This issue arises when a switch for the auto-headlights malfunctions and fails to turn them off or on while they are supposed to be engaged. While replacing the headlight switch is one potential solution, it may not guarantee a fix. In such cases, seeking assistance from a Jeep dealership for a thorough examination is advisable to pinpoint the root cause of the problem and ensure your safety on the road.
Engine control module (ECM) failures are another serious problem that can occur in the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. ECM failure can occur due to a short-circuit or freezing, leading to unpredictable engine behavior, such as random starts or sudden shutdowns while driving. When faced with ECM issues, it is strongly recommended to bring your vehicle to a Chrysler dealership for professional assessment and prompt resolution.
In addition to these issues, the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee can also experience problems with its fuel efficiency, with a significant drop in fuel efficiency or, worse, no efficiency at all, which could signal engine problems that require immediate attention from a mechanic. Neglecting this issue may lead to severe consequences, including difficulty starting the car and unexpected stalls while driving.
Another critical problem to watch out for is poor engine performance in your Jeep Grand Cherokee. This issue may result from a faulty catalytic converter responsible for managing exhaust emissions or an air leak within the vehicle that disrupts optimal performance. Ignoring engine performance problems can lead to extensive damage and costly repairs down the line.
Understanding the common problems that can affect your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee is essential for maintaining the vehicle's performance and safety. Whether you encounter transmission issues, faulty automatic headlights, ECM failures, poor fuel economy, or engine performance concerns, addressing these problems promptly with professional assistance is crucial.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-17
- VIN: 1C4RJFCM6FC
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I have owned this vehicle for 9 years and the vehicle has had an issue with the electronic fuel pump since I bought it. I would take pictures of the warning showing the error message. I have had the vehicle in the shop more than 10 times for the same symptoms and begged them to replace what the computer is saying was the problem. I have spent over $9,000 on repairs and I continue to get the same message, The check engine light is on continuously and every time I bring it in they say it is not that it is something else and they replace something not related. Then the recall came out for the High Pressure Fuel Pump which was apparently the issue for the entire time like the on board computer had been stating was the issue. I have replaced the Thermostat when there was no over heating issue, the alternator when there was no electrical issue, the Particulate filter because they said that was what was causing it to go into crawl mode which it still does periodically when it rains out. The recall was issued on 6/9/2022 and it is still not repaired. There is no telling what other internal damage was done over the 9 years of not replacing what was the issue the entire time.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-05
- VIN: 1C4RJFCM4FC
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: My 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland EcoDiesel (VIN# [XXX] ) had a catastrophic engine failure at 96k miles (400 miles from home) on a family trip Friday [XXX] leaving us stranded far from home for the second time in the last year (first time was for a turbo coolant line that failed requiring me to leave my car in California for 3+ weeks while parts were on back order). I still have an active AEM Warranty from the emissions recalls a few years back that's good until 120k miles, however previous inquiries have stated that this warranty doesn't cover the engine failure and was given a repair estimate in excess of $30k+. Premature engine failures have been a very common problem of this series of vehicle, it was involved in the AEM class-action lawsuit, and had numerous recalls that are related to the engine and engine components. Myself and the Lithia Jeep Dealership staff in Grants Pass, OR were all shocked when the warranty claim was denied for this replacement given the number of EcoDiesel failures they had seen. With the systemic premature failures of these engines, the AEM class-action lawsuit updates, extent of recalls that are related to the engine and engine components, I have been disappointed in how Chrysler/Jeep have handled this situation, leaving the burden of their design flaws on their customers. - Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured December 9, 2015, to January 14, 2016. In the affected vehicles, the left front brake caliper may crack due to being made from an incorrect material.
- Consequence: A cracked brake caliper may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front left brake caliper and depending on its casting date, replace it, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on May 12, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S16.

- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured June 12, 2015, to June 20, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with rear lower control arms that may have been incorrectly heat treated. This may cause the rear lower control arm to fracture.
- Consequence: If the rear lower control arm fractures it may result in a change in ride height, loss of rear end stability, and reduced braking capabilities, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the lower control arms, free of charge. The recall began July 29, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R38. Note: This supersedes Recall No. 15V-407.

- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.
- Consequence: Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R40.

I was initially hesitant about purchasing a 2015 model due to negative reviews of the 2014 version. However, I am thrilled that I decided to take the leap! The 2015 JGCherokee has been an absolute joy to drive and is easily the best vehicle I've owned in a long time. It's worth noting that the on-board computer system may experience issues with wi-fi, but this can be easily resolved by keeping your iPhone's wi-fi setting turned off. I experienced some problems with Siri, volume control, and the computer turning off, but this was quickly resolved once I made this adjustment. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend the 2015 JGCherokee to anyone in the market for a new car. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts!

Congratulations on your new 2015 Overland! It's great to hear that you're enjoying your SUV and that it's been running smoothly. It's always refreshing to hear positive feedback, especially when there are so many negative reviews out there. The blind spot monitoring, adaptable cruise control, and user-friendly interface are just a few of the many features that make this SUV stand out from the rest. It's wonderful to hear that you haven't had any issues with the transmission, electrical, or any other features. Here's to many more enjoyable rides in your new SUV!

This is my first Jeep/Chrysler and my first 4x4 with a diesel engine. I bought it brand new on 04/18/2015 and it only had 381 miles on the odometer. My previous SUV was a 2007 Escalade, so I was hesitant to make the switch. However, after reading some bad reviews for the 2014 model (electronics/Uconnect/tranny, etc.), I was pleasantly surprised with my experience so far. The diesel engine and transmission respond quickly, and the diesel lag is normal. It picks up speed quickly on the highway, making it easy to overtake or merge. I'm currently averaging 26.5mpg with 55-60% highway driving, and I expect it to go up. The Uconnect and driver's display are large, informative, and sleek, with quick response to user input. The air suspension drops for easy passenger entry/exit, and the overall cabin is spacious with nice leather trim and convenient/luxury features. I can't wait to write my second review!

I love my 2015 GC Summit! Although the navigation system could use some improvement in terms of resolution and maps, I have had no reliability issues with this vehicle and it is an absolute joy to drive. I recently purchased an updated nav map from HERE, but unfortunately it still seems to be missing some highway changes that have been in place for several years. Despite this setback, I am still happy with my purchase!

Hello! Thank you for considering this car. I just wanted to let you know that the heated front seats may not be as warm as you might expect. The sensor is placed quite far under the seat, so you may not feel the heat as much as you would like. However, the ventilation works great and provides instant coolness. I had some issues with the battery and the dealerships were not able to fix the heating issue, but they did confirm that the seat is heated to its specifications (106 degrees at the sensor). Unfortunately, it just may not feel as warm as you would like. Thank you for your understanding!

Electrical repairs on the Jeep Grand Cherokee can cost thousands of dollars outside of the warranty period. It's important to be aware of this potential expense. While I cannot recommend the Grand Cherokee as a long-term vehicle, there are many other great options available. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

undefinedSince I couldn't drive this car anymore, I had to trade it in for a more reliable Japanese car and I know I'll be happy with it. And at least I won't have to get software updates for it. I'm so happy with that. Jeep, you're history for me!!!

I recently had an issue with the shifting lever in my 2015 Jeep Cherokee. When shifting from park to drive, it would often go to 'N', and when shifting from 'D' to 'P', it would stop at 'R'. I found this to be quite concerning, as it could lead to dangerous situations if not double-checked. Despite what the dealer told me, I decided to trade in my Jeep for a Lexus due to the number of close calls I had experienced. I hope to recover some of the money I lost through a Class Action lawsuit. Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience.

It is not recommended to purchase one of these vehicles until the electronic shift program is improved. The current system relies on sensors to read the position of the shift lever, which often results in delayed or incorrect gear changes. Additionally, the requirement to step on the brake pedal when shifting from Neutral to Drive is an unnecessary and potentially dangerous feature. As an experienced owner of almost 40 cars and trucks, I have never encountered such a cumbersome and unintuitive design in an automatic transmission. A more reliable and user-friendly system should be implemented to ensure the safety and satisfaction of drivers. The repeated visits I have made to the dealer regarding the issues with my vehicle have unfortunately not resulted in any solutions. Despite the fact that many other owners have reported similar problems, there seems to be no available repair or adjustment. It is disappointing to have purchased a vehicle with such issues, and my sympathies go out to others who have experienced the same. However, it is worth noting that the Federal Government is currently conducting an Engineering Review of the electronic shift program in response to the numerous complaints, which may lead to a recall. This is a positive step towards resolving the issue.

I think the 2015 Grand Cherokee is a great-looking SUV. The Overland with V8 is a fantastic vehicle that offers excellent ride quality, design, and performance. However, the fuel economy is not great, with only 13 mpg in town and 18 mpg on the highway, averaging at 14 mpg. After 5000 miles, there was some blow-by smoke on start-up, which the dealer said was normal. After 10,000 miles, there was a strange rattle in the dash, but the dealer couldn't locate the noise. When running at low speeds in Eco mode, there was a loud vibration under the driver's seat. Despite these issues, I had the vehicle for 18 months before trading it in for a 2016 F150 3.5 Ecoboost. The F150 has more horsepower and torque, and it gets 3 to 5 MPG better in all areas. It also has a 0 to 60 time of 6.2 seconds in a full-size 4-door 4x4 truck, which is a full second faster than the Jeep. Overall, the F150 is a much better 4x4 and a better vehicle overall.
