2005 Suzuki Aerio problems
The Suzuki Aerio (also called the Liana – Life In A New Age – in China, Pakistan, Europe, Israel, South Asia, Taiwan and Australia or Baleno for sedan version in Indonesia) is a subcompact car that was built by Suzuki. It was introduced in 2001 as a replacement for the Suzuki Esteem/Baleno, with a tall 5-door SX model hatchback (for maximum inner room efficiency) and a 4-door sedan body. It featured two different 16-valve gasoline inline-four engines, with 1.5-litre and 1.8-litre, this one capable of 125 PS (92 kW; 123 hp) JIS. Production was discontinued in 2007 around the world and replaced by the Suzuki SX4, except in Pakistan (2006 to 2014) and China where production was continued by Changhe-Suzuki until 2019.
Overview
Models in North America got a larger and more powerful 2.0-litre engine with 145 hp (108 kW). A 5-speed manual transmission was standard with a 4-speed automatic optional. All-wheel-drive was available, but only with the automatic. American Aerios came in two trim levels: the S and GS (2002–2004), S and SX (2005), and Base and Premium (2006–2007). Key changes over the years included an upgrade to a new 2.3-liter 155 hp (116 kW; 157 PS) engine in 2004, a major styling and interior refresh in 2005 (replacing the digital instruments with conventional analog ones), and the standardization of antilock brakes in 2006. Only the Aerio sedan remained for 2007, as the hatchback had been shelved to make room for the new 2007 SX4 hatchback. Likewise, the Aerio sedan bowed out at year's end, making way for the 2008 SX4 Sport sedan. Throughout its run, the Aerio was distinct for being the most affordable car in America to offer all-wheel drive.
In Europe, where the car was called Liana (an acronym for Life In A New Age), it was seen as a more affordable alternative to small family cars or to mini MPVs, introducing a new generation of Suzuki M engines, with 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre I4 engine. All-wheel drive was available on the bigger engine. In 2004, the car was restyled with a look that closer resembled the Japanese version, and also received a Diesel engine, with a 16-valve version of the 1.4-litre HDi engine supplied by PSA Peugeot Citroën, capable of 90 PS (66 kW; 89 hp) thanks to common rail direct injection and a variable geometry turbocharger.
The Liana remained in production in Pakistan in 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre variants until 2014.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-05-30
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: JS2RC61H955
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: AFTER I BOUGHT MY CAR (IN LATE DECEMBER 2004), I NOTICED THAT THE REAR-END TWITCHED (VERY SLIGHT SWINGS TO THE LEFT & RIGHT THAT QUICKLY RE-GRABBED THE ROAD AFTER LOSING TRACTION). THIS OCCURRED EVERY TIME THE ROADS WERE WET OR SLIPPERY, AND I USED IT AS A SIGNAL TO SLOW DOWN. THIS TWITCHING GOT WORSE AS THE TIRES WORE DOWN, AND I HAD REPLACED THE REAR-TIRES 8 MONTHS AGO, AND GOT AN ALIGNMENT AS WELL. I WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON MINNESOTA HIGHWAY 77, APPROACHING THE MINNESOTA RIVER BRIDGE (MILE MARKER 7). A RAINSTORM HAD GONE BY EARLIER, SO THE ROAD WAS WET. I HAD SLOWED DOWN, BECAUSE THE CAR'S REAR-END WAS TWITCHING AGAIN, AND IT STOPPED TWITCHING, AND IT WASN'T TWITCHING AROUND WHEN I GOT TO THE BRIDGE. AS I CROSSED THE BRIDGE, THE REAR-END LET GO, AND THE CAR (AND I) CRASHED INTO THE BRIDGES SAFETY MEDIAN, NOSE FIRST. THE CAR DIDN'T DO ANY TWITCHING FOR THE 3 MINUTES PRIOR TO GETTING ONTO THE BRIDGE. AS A RESULT OF THE REAR-END LETTING, THE CAR IS TOTALED, AND I WAS INJURED. *TR

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-01-12
- VIN: JS2RD61H755
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: WHEN MY VEHICLE HAD 11,295 MILES ON IT I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES AS THEY HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR. THE VISCOUS COUPLING WAS REPLACED AND THE ALIGNMENT WAS CHANGED PER MY WORK ORDER AS RECOMMENDED BY THE TS BULLETIN 11225. NOW MY CAR HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE TO REPLACE MY TIRES AGAIN. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE MANUFACTURING OF THE VEHICLE ITSELF AS TO CAUSE TWO SET OF TIRES TO BE WORN BARE AFTER ONLY 30,000 MILES. DEALERSHIP WORKED WITH ME ON FIRST SET, THEY ARE UNSURE ABOUT WHETHER THEY WILL HELP WITH THE SECOND SET, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER ITS 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT KEEPING THE VEHICLE IF I WILL HAVE TO GET NEW TIRES EVERY 10-20,000 MILES AND THE CAR MANUFACTURER IS NOT WILLING TO FIX THE VEHICLES. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY VEHICLE KNOWING THAT THE TIRES ARE WEARING DOWN EXCESSIVELY AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW THE CAUSE. *NM

I recently picked up an Aerio SX and I have to admit, I wasn't expecting much. I had just come out of a 2004 Honda Accord Coupe with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 240 hp V6 engine, so I wasn't sure how this car would compare. But to my surprise, I've had it for almost seven months now and I'm really enjoying it! While it may not have the best handling or impressive pick up, the shifter is a joy to use and it's incredibly comfortable. Plus, the features are pretty impressive too. I highly recommend giving it a try and seeing for yourself!

We purchased a Suzuki Aerio for our college daughter, who was not thrilled as she had been driving an Audi A4 quattro. We also own an A6 quattro, but unfortunately, the Audis have been unreliable and expensive. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find an affordable AWD car to replace our daughter's A4. I only drove the car once, from CT to FL, but it was a super ride! The car is roomy, comfortable, and has well-placed dash controls. The cloth seats are awesome! Our daughter thinks it is 'cheap', but she was spoiled driving an Audi. She says that the AWD doesn't feel like it works, so I recommend you test drive the AWD in rain/snow if possible as I can't confirm daughter's complaint. I do know that I want my own Aerio.

Hi there! It's so great to hear that you've been enjoying your Aerio SX Wagon for a whole year now! It sounds like you really appreciate its handling and appearance. I completely understand your frustration about Suzuki no longer making this model, but have you considered checking out the Sedan? It may not have all the performance parts you're looking for, but it's still a great car. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

Overall, this car is excellent for its price. It has impressive power and can really move on the road. You might not expect it to be so great for a new car on the market, but give it a try and you'll end up liking it.

I named my Aerio 'Lucky Lady.' It's been months and I'm still crazy about driving it. As a regional store manager, I drive little winding mountain roads every day. I upgraded the factory tires with Yokohama TRZ and have had no problem getting to my distant store in snow or ice, which means I never miss work! My passengers are always amazed by the comfort and roominess of the interior, and my boss loves my trunk space. He is always loading me down with cases of drinks. Have you ever heard of Old Fort Mountain in NC? My Lucky Lady, loaded with drinks, can do 60+ over it and I pass everyone. Its great gas mileage is a bonus in times like this.

I purchased my Aerio brand new a year ago, but unfortunately, I have had to repair it multiple times since then. I have experienced some issues with the front sway bar bushings coming out of the mounting brackets, and there was a mechanical defect that caused damage to six tires. I have also had to get three alignments done, and the power door locks failed. Additionally, I had to address some issues with the front lower control arm bolts, the rear bumper styrofoam, and the heat shield for the exhaust manifold and hood. While it has been a frustrating experience, I am hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon. As a first-time new car owner, I have learned a lot from this experience and will be more prepared in the future. Thank you for your understanding.
Dwight Considine 2024-09-07
Although I initially liked the look of my car, the frequent repairs, particularly for the wheel bearings, and other mechanical issues have made me reconsider recommending it to others. Despite being a proud owner of three Suzukis prior to this one, I cannot in good conscience recommend this brand anymore. The experience has been a nightmare, including the Suzuki repair service causing additional problems. Furthermore, the car's fuel efficiency is only 17 miles to the gallon and the cruise control is not functional. It is clear that improvements are needed in the design and manufacturing of this vehicle.
Deangelo Runte 2024-08-17
Our car's vibration issue at 55 mph and above persists despite the dealer fixing the viscous coupler joint and aligning the tires. The current tires are also wearing fast. We require a more comprehensive solution to address these persistent issues.
Roscoe Gutkowski 2024-07-21
I've had some trouble with my car's tires and brakes. I've had to replace them more frequently than I expected, and the paint chips off easily. Despite these issues, the car is very comfortable, spacious, and easy to drive. However, the maintenance costs have been quite high, and I'm not sure if it's worth it in the long run. Maybe I just got a lemon.
Trever Doyle 2024-06-18
This car has had some issues. The paint began to chip before reaching 100,000km, and the muffler, exhaust, and tires needed to be replaced. The rotors are also overdue for replacement. At 105,000km, the engine had to be replaced due to a manufacturer's defect. The transmission also had issues at 120,000km, causing severe grinding during downshifts. The stock battery is not very reliable, and the airbag light came on at 85,000km. Additionally, there is some road noise and the electrical motors in the windows are failing. However, these issues can be addressed and the car can still be a reliable mode of transportation.
