2010 Jeep Compass problems
The Jeep Compass is a compact crossover SUV introduced for the 2007 model year, and is currently in its second generation. The first generation Compass and Patriot, its rebadged variant, were among Jeep's first crossover SUVs. The second-generation Compass debuted in September 2016 in Brazil and at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November 2016, sharing a modified platform with the Renegade. It is positioned between the smaller Renegade and the larger Cherokee globally or the Commander in South America.
Concept
Four years prior to the introduction of the production Jeep Compass, a concept vehicle with the same name had its world premiere in Detroit at the 2002 North American International Auto Show. It featured a two-door body, all-wheel drive and a 3.7-liter V6 engine.
The 3.7 L Power-Tech V6 engine from the Jeep Liberty was not available in the new Compass for 2007, though the production model Compass kept the concept car's styling cues and some of its features. The production model Compass also had four doors instead of the two doors on the concept car.

Common 2010 Jeep Compass problems
The Jeep Compass, produced between 2007 and 2016, has been known for several common problems that have affected its reliability. These issues are primarily related to electrical faults, suspension and driveline problems, and potential rust damage.
One of the most common problems is no-start and stalling issues, which can be caused by a failing throttle body, crankshaft position sensor, or corrosion at the fuse box. These problems can lead to inconvenient and unexpected breakdowns.
Suspension and driveline problems are also frequent, with bad control arms and wheel bearings being common culprits. These issues can affect the overall handling and safety of the vehicle, making it essential to address them promptly.
Rust damage around the rear wheels can develop over time, which can weaken the vehicle's structure and lead to more significant issues down the road. This is particularly relevant for those who live in regions with harsh winter conditions or high humidity.
Electrical faults are a significant concern, with problems often stemming from issues with TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) modules. These modules, which serve as the main fuse box under the hood, can be expensive to replace, especially in early model years. While cheaper aftermarket TIPM modules are available, they may require reprogramming.
Ground wire connections, especially the one near the alternator, are prone to corrosion and can cause various electrical faults. Regularly inspecting and maintaining these connections can help prevent many electrical issues.
Alternator decoupler pulley problems can lead to a whining noise, and alternator failures are not uncommon. Replacing an alternator is a time-consuming process, taking approximately 1.5 hours plus the cost of the part for a 2.4L engine.
The code P0456 is often caused by a faulty gas cap or a failed EVAP (Evaporative Emission Control System) leak detection unit. In some cases, replacing the gas cap can resolve the issue and save money. However, if the problem persists, the EVAP system may need to be tested for leaks.
A damaged or clogged intake manifold in the 2.4L engine can cause the code P2004, which typically requires replacing the intake manifold, a 2.0-hour job plus the cost of the part.
In summary, the Jeep Compass, particularly the 2010 model, has been plagued by several common problems, primarily related to electrical faults, suspension and driveline issues, and potential rust damage. While these issues can be frustrating for owners, understanding them can help address them promptly and maintain the vehicle's overall reliability.

I have a 07 Patriot Ltd and I love it, but this Compass Ltd is even more fun to drive. I love its looks, especially the Ltd package with silver bumper accents, silver body side moldings and chrome wheels, which always turn heads of other drivers and pedestrians. Although it seems a little sluggish under load, the more I drive it, the more accustomed I become. The comfort is as good or better than the Patriot, and the fuel economy is very good too. The interior is better than most competitors in the same class, with tight and well-aligned seams and doors that fit tight.

My husband bought me the 2010 Jeep Compass as a gift when our youngest child graduated. Although the gas mileage is poor and the trunk area is small, it has been a very reliable vehicle. The back seat can be a bit cramped, especially with two car seats, but it has served its purpose. The only downside is the cabin noise, which can be quite loud and make it difficult to hold a conversation. Overall, I have had a love/hate relationship with the Compass, but I do appreciate the sentiment behind the gift.

Here are the assessments after 60 days for the Compass Sport 5spd 4x4 North: The average fuel mileage (without air conditioning running) is 28mpg, with 80% highway driving at 74mph and 20% city driving. The 5-speed transmission is good, but it requires some work for reverse with the clutch. The engine is good and quiet, with no rattles or noises and no false starts. No faults were detected, and the interior build is better than other models such as the 08 Liberty. The ride handling is great, with good sound insulation. I tested the 4x4 on a muddy access trail, and there were no undercarriage hits. The model has good ground clearance. All in all, it was a very good purchase for the dollar, and it is the only real 4x4 offered with a 5spd in this price range. It is also easy to reach zones for cleaning, which is important to me as my co-pilots are my pets.

I can understand why some people may not like the Compass, but personally, I think it's a great crossover utility vehicle. It offers plenty of room for those who don't need a large SUV, but also don't want to struggle getting in and out of a car. While the fuel economy on my Compass has been mediocre at best, I find it to be a fun vehicle to drive and I'm impressed by the safety features. Overall, I absolutely love my Jeep!
-
We've been the proud owners of this vehicle for several months now and it has exceeded our expectations. During a recent trip to upstate New York, the 5-speed Compass averaged an impressive 32 MPG, which is 3 MPG above the manufacturer's claims. The vehicle is an absolute joy to drive and handles like a dream on the curvy Rt. 664 in the Hocking Hills of Ohio, where we live and commute to work in Athens, Ohio on a daily basis. We are thoroughly impressed with the awesome Chrysler design of this vehicle. As longtime admirers of Jeep products, we are thrilled to finally own this American-made gem. We are delighted with this vehicle and would highly recommend it to anyone, even our best friend. After all, who wouldn't rather drive a Jeep than a Toy?

During the cash for clunkers program, my family and I were interested in purchasing a Patriot with 4wd. Unfortunately, we were unable to find one anywhere in the country. As a result, we decided to purchase a Compass instead. However, we have encountered some issues with the vehicle. The seat is too narrow for my comfort, and the seat belt digs into my right thigh while driving. Additionally, the high seat backs in the back row obstruct my view of the next lane, making it difficult to change lanes. Despite these issues, the handling is fine, the looks are great, and the fuel economy is okay. I am considering selling or trading this vehicle due to the discomfort it causes me.
