2006 Toyota Sequoia problems
The Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV manufactured by Toyota mainly for the North American market since 2000 for the 2001 model year, being derived from the Tundra pickup truck. It is the second largest SUV ever produced under the Toyota brand, after the Japan-exclusive, military-focused Mega Cruiser.
Previously manufactured at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana in Princeton, Indiana between 2000 and 2021, and then in Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas in San Antonio, Texas since 2022, the Sequoia is the first vehicle from a Japanese marque in the popular mainstream full-sized SUV class in North America, and initial planning done by first-generation Sequoia chief engineer Kaoru Hosokawa aimed the Sequoia directly at the Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe, Nissan Armada, and other full-size SUVs.
Up until the 2021 model year, the Sequoia was slotted between the mid-size 4Runner and the premium Land Cruiser in the North American Toyota SUV lineup. With the discontinuation of North American sales of the Land Cruiser from the 2022 model year onward, the Sequoia became the flagship SUV in Toyota's North America lineup.
As of 2021, the Sequoia is sold in the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica. It is offered in left-hand drive only.

I have not driven her since Jan 3, 2022 because not only me+ (husband & dogs), but also my fellow motorists are at risk. Both my husband & an employee of the dealer shop asked Toyota directly in attempt to get them to replace frame at their expense. Toyota said No.

- Summary: The driver side, rear, trailing arm broke away from the vehicles frame due to “frame rot” while driving. The vehicle became extremely dangerous to drive. Toyota has since declined to help. They said they notified us via mail of a customer service campaign addressing the premature rust issue, but we never learned of the program and lawsuit until after the frame broke and I almost crashed. Later I saw the broken arm/frame under the vehicle. This frame failure can potentially be a catastrophic and deadly event. I opened an insurance claim and it was denied and I was referred back to Toyota. Our vehicle has been factory maintained it’s entire life. No service advisors ever mentioned a possible problem to my family and I. I recently spoke to the Toyota service manager at Parker Toyota in Couer d Alene Idaho and his master technicians have seen the same failure that occurred on our vehicle. This is extremely dangerous.

On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: 2003-2004 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles that are recalled under both 15V-043 and 15V-285 are under a Do Not Drive advisory. Owners of these vehicles are advised not to drive their vehicles until the recall remedy has been completed. Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag. The recall began on July 13, 2015. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Pontiac owners may call 1-800-762-2737. NOTE: This recall supersedes recall 14V-312 in its entirety.

I can tell you really love your vehicle! It's great to hear that it handles the road so well, especially for a large SUV. Safety and comfort are definitely important when it comes to driving, and it sounds like you've found both in your new ride. I'm glad to hear that you have no regrets about your purchase!

Quality you can feel. I've looked at all of the big SUVs. This Sequioa just beats them all. Gas mileage is not bad, but when you're driving a monster like this, who cares about gas mileage?

Our second Sequoia. You'll be happy to know that we've put a lot of long distance driving on it!! We couldn't ask for any better!! While it's not great on gas, we knew that when we bought it. It's still better than most!! We absolutely love this car!!

This truck is amazing! The power of the 4.7 engine is fantastic. I have never owned a truck with this much power before. The fuel efficiency is also quite good. My wife absolutely loved it when we test drove it at the dealership. We tried out all the competitors, but the Toyota was by far the best. The other trucks we looked at were poorly made on the inside. I never used to be a fan of foreign cars, let alone Toyota, but now I understand why people say they are the best. I plan on keeping this truck for at least 10 years!

I had a 2004 4runner and I absolutely loved it! Recently, I decided to upgrade to a third row seat, so I bought my Sequoia. Although I love the Sequoia, the only problem is that it gets horrible gas mileage, only 13.7 mpg. With gas prices reaching $4 a gallon, I'm wishing I had gone with a hybrid. All of our cars are Toyotas because you can't beat the quality. I'm looking forward to getting rid of a car seat or two and opting for a Prius. If you have the money to keep up with the gas, then you'll be fine.

After paying $48K to the dealer, my car failed to start the next day. I discovered that I needed a new battery and promptly returned to the service department. Despite waiting for an hour, I was able to get a new battery and continue on my way. Unfortunately, over the next 23 months, I experienced various issues with the low tire pressure sensor and had three warning lights for the battery randomly lighting up. Eventually, in February 2008, my car wouldn't start due to battery acid leaking and corroding my battery cables. Fortunately, AAA was able to clean up the mess and get me started again. However, in May 2008, my car failed to start once more due to battery acid corroding my fuse block. After a month of waiting, I finally received my car back from the dealer. Unfortunately, in September 2008, my car wouldn't start again.

Overall, the SUV is good. We purchased it brand new in the fall of 2005. However, we preferred our two previous Chevy Suburbans much more. We opted for the Limited Sequoia with DVD and were pleasantly surprised to find that the third-row seat is actually comfortable for adults. Unfortunately, the gas mileage is not great, as I only get 15 combined. For our next car, we are considering a Suburban or Audi Q7 diesel for better fuel economy. Additionally, the acceleration could be improved.
