2008 Ford Ranger problems
The Ford Ranger is a compact or mid-size pickup marketed globally by Ford over a series of generations, varying between both in-house or outside development and manufacturing — and with a hiatus in North America from 2011–2018.
Debuting as a compact pickup in North America in 1982 for the 1983 model year, the Ranger was later introduced in some South American countries. From 1998 to 2011, the Ranger nameplate was used for models developed by Mazda for sale outside the North American market. In 2011, Ford introduced the first Ranger based on the T6 platform. Considered a mid-size pickup truck, the model was developed in-house by Ford Australia. In that same year, the North American-market Ranger was discontinued, leaving the T6 platform-based Ranger as the sole Ranger model worldwide.
For the 2019 model year, the Ranger was reintroduced in North America using the globally-marketed T6 model. It is manufactured at the Michigan Assembly Plant at Wayne, Michigan. The Ranger is smaller than the F-150 and larger than the Maverick in the Ford North American pickup truck range, while for markets outside the Americas it is typically the only Ford pickup offered for sale.
The second generation of the T6-based Ranger was released in 2021 for worldwide markets, using a revised T6 platform.

Common 2008 Ford Ranger problems
The Ford Ranger, a popular pickup truck, has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. One of the most widely reported issues is with the transmission system, particularly in automatic transmissions.
Another commonly reported problem is with the engine, which can be difficult to diagnose due to the similarity of symptoms between different engine problems. These symptoms include the check engine light illuminating, a smoking exhaust, frequent overheating, and decreased fuel economy. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is crucial to get the fault checked out by a specialist as soon as possible.
The fuel injector is another component that has caused problems for some Ford Ranger owners. The most common symptoms of a faulty fuel injector are a misfiring engine, the check engine light illuminating, and rough idling. These problems are often caused by the fuel injector becoming clogged or dirty, and can feel very similar to those of a faulty fuel pump or fuel filter.
In addition to these problems, the 2008 Ford Ranger has been recalled 7 times, with the vast majority of complaints being for airbag issues. Drivers have reported faulty, unsafe airbags despite five recalls intended to address the issue. A handful of structure complaints point to excessive corrosion in the undercarriage, particularly in the straps holding the gas tank, which can create a major safety hazard.
Despite these common problems, the Ford Ranger has a reputation for being rugged and dependable, making it ideal for both work and home life demands.
In conclusion, while the Ford Ranger has been known to have several common problems, it is still a popular and dependable pickup truck. With regular maintenance and care, these issues can be minimized, and the truck can last for many years.
What problems do 2008 Ford Rangers have?
AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.
Are 2008 Ford Rangers any good?
The Ford Ranger falls far short of modern pickup-truck standards. It's ungainly and stiff-riding; has a rough and noisy, inefficient engine; and a cramped, uncomfortable cabin. The interior is crudely finished. Compact dimensions and a usefully sized bed are the Ranger's only pluses.
What is the common problem of Ford Ranger?
Intermittent crankshaft sensor failure is a common problem with a Ford Ranger. A dip in fuel efficiency, engine misfires, and sluggish acceleration are some of the aftermaths of a faulty crankshaft sensor. There is also a possibility that your Ranger won't start due to a faulty crankshaft sensor.
How long does a 2008 Ford Ranger engine last?
Ford Rangers can last up to 20 years and beyond if they are well maintained and well cared for. The Ranger is built to withstand up to 300,000 miles and years upon years of use. The Ford Ranger is considered the littler brother of the Ford F-150 and is a great alternative if you want a more gas-friendly truck.

This is actually my third Ranger, so I'm quite comfortable with them. I haven't had any issues with this latest one. It seems to be just a tad lighter than my 02, for some reason. There's a bit of air noise around the windows that the dealer couldn't seem to fix, but it's not a big deal. I've been getting a steady 21 mpg in urban driving with the 4.0/auto, which is pretty good. I've actually had people compliment me on the Vista Blue color!
-
Fit, finish, and paint are great. The engine is powerful and the auto transmission is flawless. The ride is quiet (I had mine undercoated) and it effortlessly pulls my pop-up trailer (2500 lbs). I have had no issues with rattles, wind noises, or any other problems. As someone who has owned Nissans in the past, I must say that I absolutely love this Ranger!

The style of this truck is thick, brawny, and efficient, and it's descended from the bulldog. The basic model is perfect for hauling furniture, plants, groceries, wood, sod, and bricks. No space is wasted. I highly recommend that you get the electrical windows option. I installed aftermarket windows and remote door locks, but I wished I had purchased the factory options with Ford. Additionally, you should protect your investment and get a bedliner with the Ford logo. The white paint is beautiful, like porcelain, and reflects the 100-degree southern heat. For the low price, this truck is a very reliable and satisfactory long-term investment. The MPG is really comparable to other 6-cylinder trucks as well as luxury cars, so you're definitely in the ballpark.

I sold my 2003 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4 X 4 with Hemi and ordered my Ranger XLT 4 Banger with auto and all options. In short, I love this truck. It's fun to drive and I think Ford should put time and effort into the Ranger's future! As a happy Ford customer, I'm getting an average of 24 MPG.

I've had my latest Ranger for 11 months now and it's been great! Even with all the traffic-jams on I-95 through CT, NY and NJ, it still averages about 31 MPG on highway trips. My last Ranger was a 1993, which I gave to my son and he still uses it to haul heating-wood. While other brands may be more luxurious, if you need a tough little truck (not a car with a box stuck on the back), Ford still builds the best. It's no wonder the Ranger Plant is staying open for a while longer. You'll be hard-pressed to find another pickup that actually gets over 30 MPG. Good luck with your search!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with this truck. I actually bought it as a second vehicle for hauling stuff without ruining my other car, and it has been a great solution for my needs. Even though it's a stripped down version with only air and auto, I've been really happy with it. While the ride can be a bit stiff and the transmission unrefined, the low end torque of the 4-cyl engine really comes through when I'm loaded up. I have noticed that the truck can be a bit loose in the rear on wet pavement, but overall it's been a very economical choice. The air conditioning works well, although I have accidentally knocked the truck into neutral when reaching for the radio controls due to the bad layout. All in all, I would definitely recommend it!

I used to work as an engineer at Chrysler, while my father worked at GM. Currently, I work as a driver. The first USA car with no manufacturing defects was a great achievement. It looks great and has the best mileage with a small 6 and gas-efficient rear end. However, the handling on the highway is quite dangerous, as indicated by the warning printed on the visor. The interior design is not up to par, and it seems like the engineers were fired 30 years ago. Everything is in the wrong place, works the wrong way, and is the wrong size. For instance, changing a fuse is a challenge, and getting groceries out of the back seat is not easy. Additionally, there is no fan switch off, and the center knob only has three settings: Off(1), vent(1), and AC(6).

I have experienced issues with the transmission since delivery, and despite having taken it to the dealer four times within 3500 miles, the problem persists. Initially, there was a delay of up to three seconds when shifting from 'R' to 'D', and when it finally engaged, it did so with such force that I was concerned something might break. Although the dealer has made some progress, the transmission still disengages when decelerating at slow speeds, causing a bump when accelerating back into gear. Additionally, the rear passenger supercab door is bent, which prevents it from closing properly. I have returned the vehicle to the dealer to address these issues. As a long-time Ford customer, this is the first time I have experienced any problems, and I am confident that the dealer will be able to resolve these issues to my satisfaction.

Hey there! I wanted to share my recent experience with you. I just got a loaded 2008 Ford Ranger XLT and on my way back from the out-of-town dealership where I bought it, I noticed a rattle coming from the driver's side suicide door. I took it to a local Ford dealer to get it fixed and they did a pretty good job in eliminating the rattle. However, they did mention that some body work would be needed to fully correct the issue.

I purposely looked for and purchased a base XL 4WD regular cab pick-up. Mine came from a North Carolina dealer who used E-bay as the primary sales tool. My expectations were rather low because of the heavily discounted price and the low equipment level, but I was happily surprised. For such an old design, the basic utility and honesty of this truck really stands out. I'm completely satisfied.
