2007 Jeep Compass problems

The Jeep Compass is a compact crossover SUV introduced for the 2007 model year, and is currently in its second generation. The first generation Compass and Patriot, its rebadged variant, were among Jeep's first crossover SUVs. The second-generation Compass debuted in September 2016 in Brazil and at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November 2016, sharing a modified platform with the Renegade. It is positioned between the smaller Renegade and the larger Cherokee globally or the Commander in South America.
Concept
Four years prior to the introduction of the production Jeep Compass, a concept vehicle with the same name had its world premiere in Detroit at the 2002 North American International Auto Show. It featured a two-door body, all-wheel drive and a 3.7-liter V6 engine.
The 3.7 L Power-Tech V6 engine from the Jeep Liberty was not available in the new Compass for 2007, though the production model Compass kept the concept car's styling cues and some of its features. The production model Compass also had four doors instead of the two doors on the concept car.

I've never bought a new car before, always used ones. That is until I first saw the Compass back in September of 2006! Its body style is so unique, I had to check it out. Now, 18 months later, I still love my Compass inside and out! I've only had one minor problem, an air sensor, which was quickly diagnosed and replaced. I get between 24 and 25 mpg and I'd say that 75% of my driving is in the city rather than on the highway!
-
I sold my minivan because of the mileage. I compared this Jeep to the RAV4 and other Japanese vehicles. I am so satisfied with my Jeep purchase starting with the price. It is comfortable, economical, and handles very well in the Michigan winter. This car is worth the money and will do all you ask of it. It will not win any races but once you get it on the highway you will be very satisfied. Try it. I think you will be very surprised!
-
This car is amazing! I love the fuel economy and it has some zip in the city and fun in the mountains. I previously owned a Honda Element for 3 years, but I sold it and bought this dandy of a vehicle. It rides great and feels like a car, yet has the room and comfort of an expensive SUV.
-
I needed an economical small SUV and this car fits the bill perfectly. It's comfortable, handles well, and is much more affordable than its Japanese competitors. While it may not accelerate as quickly as larger cars on the expressway, it still holds its own. Overall, I highly recommend giving it a try - you might be pleasantly surprised!
-
It's a great car, but it can be a bit problematic at times. Unfortunately, my 4WD is currently stuck in 4WD. I did some research into the computer operations and found a phrase called 'interrupts', which means that any part of a software loop (or circuit) can cause everything to falter.

I bought the Compass about a week ago after considering many other small SUVs. I traded in my Toyota Prius because I needed 4WD for driving in the northeast winter. The pricing was acceptable, being less than most SUV models. The engine seems strong for a 4 cylinder and there's lots of safety equipment as standard. I like the lock in 4WD option and the manual shift. However, I'm disappointed in the fuel economy, averaging only about 23 mpg on the highway. The vehicle is truly a compact SUV, so there's not much leg room in the rear seating area and very limited cargo space. There are several blind spots with solid headrests in the rear seats and the front cup holders are inaccessible. The build quality is suspect with lots of hard plastics.

This is the first jeep I have ever owned. I purchased it 3 years ago used with 43,000 miles on it for $6000. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with it since then. It has required over $3000 worth of repairs so far, which has been frustrating. I have had front end work done multiple times, ball joints tie rods etc... throttle control problems, power steering pump problems and so many more that out of sheer frustration at the moment I can't even remember the rest! I have been told that framework on rear end is completely shot, which is a safety concern. Living in upstate NY, I am used to driving in horrible winter conditions and because of frame problems I have handling issues and slide all over the place on roads with even the tiniest amount of snow on them while going 20mph!! From my research, it seems that these problems are typical of this vehicle and it looks like the most expensive fix is going to be the current framework problem. I would advise against buying this car, as it has been in the shop more than on the road and has been a total money pit.

I bought my Compass brand new in 2007 with high hopes of having a reliable vehicle, but unfortunately, it has not lived up to my expectations. I have had to make several repairs, including a new transmission at around 30,000 miles, a new sway bar, two new ball joints, and front and rear brakes replaced. Currently, both of my outer tie rods need to be replaced, and all of this has happened with only 65,000 miles on it. I hope that Jeep can improve the quality of this model in the future. As someone from a 'Jeep Family,' I am disappointed and will not be purchasing another one.
Vaughn Weissnat 2024-11-11
The 2007 Jeep Compass has not been a reliable vehicle for me. Unfortunately, I have experienced several issues with it, including the Transmission Oil Temp light coming on within a week of purchasing the vehicle. Despite having it fixed, the light has come on again 2 weeks later and 8 months later. This has caused the RPM's to go up and the speed to go down, which can be frustrating. I have also had to replace the control arm, sway bar, and bushings in the front at 66552 miles. Overall, my experience with this vehicle has not been positive.
Enid Bashirian 2024-10-21
I bought my Jeep Compass new in October 2006. A month later we had a major ice storm and the AWD and anti- lock brakes worked great! I was disappointed from the start about the highway mileage I was getting, the highest ever was 27 MPG. I visit my parents who live in another state regularly. This is the first vehicle I have had in the last 17 years that could not make the trip on a tank of gas. I have had both tie-rod ends replaced under warranty and the front brakes which I had to pay for. Items that you normally don't have problems with under 30,000 miles. The CD player lacks a compression mode to even the volume out. The dash board is very clunky looking. The YES seat fabric does not work.
