VEHICLE WAS IN A GRADUAL ACCELERATION AT THE TIME OF FAILURE ENTERING THE FREEWAY. THIS RESULTED IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION, AS INITIALLY IT WAS NOT APPARENT WHAT HAPPENED AND THE ENGINE OVER REVED CAUSING UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. EVENTUALLY IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STUCK IN GEAR. SPEED CONTROL WAS IMPAIRED, AND VEHICLE WAS IN AN UNSAFE, DIMINISHED CONTROL CONFIGURATION. THIS ALSO CAUSE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL FOR A MOMENT AS THE TAIL OF THE CAR SWEPT OUT. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS MINIMAL TRAFFIC WHICH ALLOWED THE SITUATION TO BE HANDLED. HAD THE TRAFFIC BEEN HEAVIER THIS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THE CASE. THIS ALSO MADE FOR AN UNSAFE SITUATION TRYING TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN AND MOVE OFF THE FREEWAY. VEHICLE IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, SO EVENTUALLY REDUCED THROTTLE AND USE OF THE CLUTCH ENABLED A SAFE OUTCOME. REPLACEMENT OF THE SHIFTER CABLES WAS REQUIRED TO RESTORE VEHICLE TO OPERATIONAL CONDITION ( AFTER TOW TO A REPAIR LOCATION). UPON SEARCHING FORUMS, THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE DESIGN OF THE SHIFT CABLES. A PLASTIC SHEATH CAN MOVE OUT OF ALIGNMENT CAUSING METAL ON METAL WEAR OF THE CABLE UNTIL IT SNAPS.

I bought my 2008 Cayman S two months ago and have driven 2000 miles. It's been a blast to drive! The only downside is the sound system, which has some intermittent bugs that the dealer can never seem to recreate. I have a Bose in my other car and I know it can sound much better.

The beautiful curves of the exterior are very reminiscent of the classic 911s of the 80s and 90s, making it a truly stunning car. I chose the 08 model because it doesn't have all the electronic features that modern cars have. I wanted a driver's performance sports car that handles like a Formula 1 car. I didn't want a car filled with gadgets that defeat the purpose of owning a Porsche. The car runs smoothly with Michelin PS Z tires and can easily handle 55 mph curves at 100. When manually shifting, I wind it to 4800 rpm and shift, feeling like I'm on a rocket. The gas mileage is about 19.8-20.5 at speeds of 75-85 and the AC works well. I appreciate the simple dashboard without screens and entertainment, making everything easy to operate. The gauges are easy to read and the car is of the same quality range as my MBZ 250 coupe. The dealer service is fantastic and I get new Porsche loaner cars with every service. With 80,000 miles, I have no worries about engine problems. I recently sold the car because I realized that I was overwhelmed by its high performance and speed. This car demands 200% attention, like flying an airplane. If you don't have that skill level, it can be dangerous. It's not a car for daily commutes, but rather for hard-core performance enthusiasts. You can keep up with Lamborghinis and Ferraris if that's your wish (top speed Porsche lists is 212 mph). After owning the car for a year, I came to the realization that if I kept the car, it would very likely be too much for me to handle. It's a safe car, but it requires a person trained in its operation.Driving a high-performance car can be dangerous if you are not aware of the risks involved. It is important to understand the machine's capabilities and not exceed your skill level. I sold my car because I realized that it was like a motorcycle, and it was not a matter of if it would hurt me, but when. I found that my MBZ 250C, with the same tires, handled just as well and was more comfortable and quiet. Although it was fun to drive, I became aware of the temptation to exceed safe limits for me.

So far I have put 300 miles on the car. The car turns heads everywhere I go. The sports exhaust note is incredible. The glossy with matte strips is very flashy and spruce. Aside from the visual appeal, the performance is incredible.

I have owned this car for one year and it has been fantastic! I've taken it on two major trips of 1,000 miles each and there was plenty of room for luggage for two people. The best part is that I haven't had to make any trips to the dealership because the car is so reliable. It's definitely one of the most well put together cars I've seen in years, with a great engine sound and comfortable seats. Even though it's a sports car, the ride is still very smooth. Plus, the fuel economy is amazing - I get an average of 24 mpg around town and 31 mpg on our two trips.

This car is definitely a head turner in the looks department and can be quite fun to drive (when it runs properly). It also has some functional features such as cupholders and front and rear storage. However, I have had some issues with reliability as I have owned two Porsches and both have been quite unreliable. Unfortunately, this car has been in the garage every $5K miles due to issues such as failed oil separators (2x), MAF issues (2x), and power steering leaks, among others. It's quite puzzling how this car has received good reviews.

Unfortunately, this model is known for IMS problems, which can cause major engine issues. Unlike American or Japanese cars, the cost of repairing a Porsche engine can be very high.
