Chrysler 300 2005 problems

The Chrysler 300 is a full-size car manufactured and marketed by Stellantis North America and its predecessor companies as a four-door sedan and station wagon in its first generation (model years 2005–2010) and solely as a four-door sedan in its second generation (model years 2011–2023).

The second generation 300 was marketed as the Chrysler 300C in the United Kingdom and Ireland and as the Lancia Thema in the remainder of Europe.

Background

The Chrysler 300 continues a tradition of large front engine, rear-wheel drive V8-powered luxury sedans the company has offered, starting in the 1940s with the Chrysler Saratoga and Chrysler New Yorker, followed by the Chrysler Windsor, Chrysler Newport and the Chrysler Cordoba, with the last rear wheel drive sedan, the Chrysler Fifth Avenue that ended production in 1989.

When the company began operations in 1925, the Chrysler Six was entered as a roadster in the 1925 24 Hours of Le Mans where it finished the race, and in 1926, the Chrysler Imperial started the tradition of luxury and performance products. Starting in 1955, the Imperial became its own luxury brand and offered the Imperial Newport along with the Imperial Crown. The original Chrysler FirePower Hemi engine powered the Cunningham C-5R, a special racecar, and finished the 1952 Le Mans, 1953 Le Mans, and 1954 Le Mans endurance races, as well as the 1953 12 Hours of Sebring.

Common Chrysler 300 2005 problems

The Chrysler 300, introduced in 2005, has been a popular choice for car buyers seeking a blend of style, performance, and luxury. However, as with any vehicle, the Chrysler 300 has its share of common problems that owners have reported. This article will delve into these issues, providing a detailed analysis of each problem based on complaints from owners.

  1. Power Windows Not Working

One of the most common issues reported by Chrysler 300 owners is related to the power windows. The window might not move, or the window motor in the door could make a noise. Problems with the window switch could be from a bad window motor, bad or broken window regulator, or defective or damaged wiring. Inspect the wiring behind the boot for damage. See if any have been pinched or spliced open. The window motor may be defective, or there may be an issue with the window regulator. You can remove the door panel to access and test what’s causing the problem. With the door panel removed, inspect the window regulator for damage, like for a broken cable.

  1. Squeak from Steering Wheel

Another common problem reported by Chrysler 300 owners is a squeaking noise from the steering wheel when in use. This issue is often caused by the seal at the base of the steering shaft, which can be found at the steering shaft’s base from the engine compartment. Lubricating the seal and turning the steering wheel back and forth until the noise stops can fix this problem.

  1. Transmission Shifting Problems

Transmission issues are also a common problem in the Chrysler 300. Owners have reported hard shifting or shuttering while driving, which is likely from a problem with the control module. Contact your dealership with your car’s VIN number. They might need to update the car’s control module. If the car doesn’t need updating but still has this problem, the transmission will need further diagnosing.

  1. Check Engine Light and Engine Misfires

Carbon build-up on the backside of the valves can cause misfires, leading to the check engine light coming on. If the engine is shaking and the check engine light is on, connect the scanner to the OBD-II port to scan for codes. Usually, these symptoms will trigger a P0300 misfire code. Since this problem is usually caused by carbon build-up, have the engine cleaned professionally. The dealership is also known to offer updated valve spring retainers to prevent this issue.

  1. Oil Pressure Sending Unit

The oil pressure sending unit is another common problem in the Chrysler 300. If the check engine light is on and the scanner shows a PO520 code, replace the oil pressure sending unit underneath the engine beside the oil filter. Disconnect the connector, replace the part, and clear the code. If the code returns, diagnose the problem further with a wiring diagram.

In conclusion, while the Chrysler 300 is a popular and stylish vehicle, it does have its share of common problems. Owners have reported issues with power windows, steering wheel squeaks, transmission shifting problems, engine misfires, and oil pressure sending units. By being aware of these issues, potential buyers can make informed decisions, and current owners can take proactive steps to maintain their vehicles and address these problems as they arise.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-09-02
  • VIN: 2C3AA53G45H
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: Reverse gear went out after vehicle slipped once, acted as if in neutral when in reverse and pressing gas pedal down but would not move. Had local towing and mechanic shop in Gower Missouri check transmission fluid level in which was found to be a quart low on transmission fluid. Car had been extremely well maintained and all recommended maintenance services completed by previous owners. Able to drive car in all other gears, codes p0007 code appear with no check engine light or any type of warning or indication that a problem was present within my 2005 Chrysler 300 3.5l v6 rwd car with the 42rle transmission My vehicle also has issues occur suddenly regarding front end suspension has death shake and very loud clinking popping banging noises while driving at all speeds. Steering wheel has a weird squeek/creeking noise when turning the wheel at times and feels like steering is loose. Tie rod end and sway link bar on front passenger right side of vehicle is bent opposite direction it is supposed to and car also has higher rpm than normal and shifting at higher rpms. Went into limp mode twice which I reset myself due to having an emergency where I had to drive it. With the suspension and steering issues it causes a safety risk due to sway link and tie rod end breaking causing vehicle to crash and wheel to detach from vehicle. Transmission gear loss due to transmission fluid leaking and gear linkage issues causes safety risk due to the event of reversing to move out of the way and to avoid potential harm to passengers (my 5 young children) within the vehicle in the event the vehicle can't move from the place parked. The vehicle is available to be inspection and has been checked out by 3 different mechanic shops located in Gower, saint Joseph, and Savannah Missouri all in which stateed verbally that low fluid due to leak somewhere from transmission and poor linkage components within gear solenoid and possible pcm and mil issues to be at fault of vehicle mufacture

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-01-01
  • VIN: 2C3JA53G75H
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: My 2005 Chrysler 300 has been having an issue with the fuel tank. When you get fuel in it then it won’t stay started. It keeps stalling out repeatedly. It also stalls out randomly under 25mph. Both are dangerous as it may cause you to get T-boned leaving gas station as it repeatedly stalls. Also it stalled out on the freeway on-ramp under 25mph. This is also dangerous as you lose your steering at the same time. Someone could have been injured or killed. And Chrysler needs to take this more seriously than they did just with the 2005 300c. It’s happening to more models of that year as well. Their offered remedy was telling me not to fuel it all the way up anymore past 3/4 of a tank. A dealership confirmed it needs a full fuel tank replacement and has had it since Memorial Day. They still have it currently. Chrysler told me and the dealership I’m on my own after treating me horribly most of the time on the phone calls with customer care center as I was jumping through hoops for them over and over for around 2 months. Whenever I get someone kind and helpful they won’t let me speak to them again. I have this all written down. And will get the estimate when I get my car back. But I don’t have $2800 ($2000 alone is just the fuel tank) to fix this on my own. Especially not when there is a known issue. Fuel tanks just don’t break and need full replacement as a common issue in vehicles. But Chrysler says my vehicle is too old. Which they knew the year of my vehicle when I called in the first place. And they know there is a known issue which is why they have lifetime fuel tank replacements on others of the same year. It’s too bad they weren’t pushed to do a total recall rather than just a safety bulletin. It left the rest of us that end up having issues with the fuel tanks in danger. It’s not just coincidental. It’s been acting up for awhile and I couldn’t find anyone that had ever heard of this until the Chrysler forums. It got worse in 2020 to present. Thank you.

I have reported several issues to the dealer over the last 6 months. These include: 1) The car rolling backwards in drive even on minor grades, 2) Hard shifting from reverse to drive, 3) Hard up-shifting from 2nd to 3rd at low RPM acceleration, 4) Poor quality control on the painting, with visible primer on the inside of the gas cap door and bare metal on the interior of the rear wheel wells, and 5) Difficulty maintaining radio station reception, which is a first for me after 22 years of commuting. Additionally, there is a vibration in the dash. I am confident that these issues can be resolved with the appropriate attention and expertise.

I've had this car since December and I've noticed that when I'm sitting at a light or a stop sign, it feels like the car is going to stall. Sometimes it downshifts and feels like someone has rear-ended me. The first few times it happened, I thought the car behind me had hit me. Lately, it's been happening more and more, and it has even stalled out on me a few times while I was waiting to turn. I took it to the dealership, but they said nothing is wrong. However, I had a recall on my transmission with something, which they say has nothing to do with it, but I'm not so sure. At this point, I just want to make sure everything is okay with my car.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 300 Limited that I bought brand new in 2005. Unfortunately, I did encounter a few issues along the way. Firstly, I noticed that the left back and quarter panel primer was showing through the paint. However, I took the car back to the dealer and they were able to repair it for me. Later on, at around 49000 miles, I noticed that the car would smoke out the exhaust when started after setting over night and was using almost 2 quarts of oil in 2000 miles. It turned out that the seals around the valve stems were shot, which resulted in a $1500 repair bill. Despite these issues, I have since traded in the vehicle and have decided to explore other options. Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience!

Positive Chrysler 300 2005 car reviews

  1. Keeley Huel 2024-11-27

What can I say, I absolutely love this vehicle! The boxy exterior design and the muscle under the hood make it a future classic. As someone who appreciates luxury, the 300 is everything I could ask for and more.

  2. Judd Marks 2024-11-27

I've had my 300 since it had 2500 miles on it, it now has 55,000 and I've never had an issue with it. The only expense I've had is oil changes and tires. While it may not be as luxurious as a BMW or Mercedes, it's a reliable choice that won't break the bank with costly repairs. It may not offer the smoothest ride, but the peace of mind it provides is definitely worth considering.

  3. Florian Marvin 2024-11-26

This is one of the finest cars I have owned in the last 20 years. The combination of smooth ride and precise handling is great. It feels like a luxury car from the past, but with greatly improved handling qualities. Although the interior could use some improvement, with too much gray plastic on the dash and door panels, the leather seats have a nice appearance and are very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this comfortable sedan with great styling to anyone.

  4. Kevin Kunze 2024-11-21

I've had this car since 2007 and it's been one of the best cars I've had in the last 30 years!

  5. Keshawn Robel 2024-11-20

This is a nice car. I've been driving it for 125k and it still drives like new. I do have one complaint though, the navigation system and radio quality could be better. The sound is great, but the stereo itself is not very good. Unfortunately, when my screen turned completely black and I tried to get a replacement, I was surprised to find out that the stereo system costs more than the engine. It's a bit ridiculous.
