2016 Dodge Journey problems

The Dodge Journey is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Dodge brand for model years 2009 to 2020 over a single generation, with a facelift for the 2011 model year. The Journey was styled by Ryan Nagode, and was marketed globally in both left- and right-hand drive, including as the Fiat Freemont.
Internally identified as the JC49, the Journey shares FCA's global D-segment platform with the Dodge Avenger and a nearly identical wheelbase to the outgoing short-wheelbase (SWB) Dodge Caravan.
Having debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Journey subsequently appeared at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. All models were manufactured in Mexico at FCA's Toluca Assembly facility, with just over 1.1 million manufactured before production ended in 2020.

- Summary: FCA US LLC PO Box 21-8004 Auburn Hills, MI 48321-8004 Mopar part #68194693AF (discontinued) VIN# 3C4PDDBG8GT[XXX] Sir or Madam, I am writing to your Company regarding the lack of availability of the ABS Control Module for my 2016 Dodge Journey. My vehicle, like those of numerous other Dodge Journey owners, has a malfunctioning ABS Control Module. Because of this malfunction, the ABS and cruise control do not work, placing me and my family in an unsafe situation. Some owners have even reported that they cannot drive their vehicles due to locked brakes resulting from this malfunction. I have tried every source in existence to find a replacement module, but I have been totally unsuccessful. Your Company's response that you are unable to maintain a complete inventory for an indefinite period of time is appalling. Several thousand Dodge Journey owners who paid tens of thousands of dollars for their vehicles deserve better support. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-01
- VIN: 3C4PDDEG2GT
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I was driving my vehicle and the engine light came on with cruise control one time and abs brake lighta another time. When I got it checked by a mechanic, I was told it was clamshaft and crankshaft and that it was under a recall for my specific make and model and to take it to Dodge dealership. I did so and they ean a diagnostic test that tevealed exactly what I told them the mechanic told me and that it was not under recall and would be $2900 to fix. I argued that there is a recall for my specific make and model for the exact issue and was told to call Chrysler. I called and spoke with them and was told my vin doesn't pop up for thr recall even though my same year, make and model is having the same specific issue and that there was nothing they can do. I drive my vehicle to take my son to school and go to work as a nurse, caring for others. I was told that my vehicle may power off in the middle of driving because of the faulty sensor, potentially causing harm to myself, my loved ones and others on the road for an issue that my same make, model and year vehicle has a recall for that my vin number doesn't come up for.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-03
- VIN: 3C4PDCEG2GT

- Summary: Transmission pump has failed at only 98,000 miles. I was stopped at a stop light and the vehicle would no longer move. I restarted it, and it allowed me to continue driving, but once I stopped again at a stop light it wouldn’t move. This endangers me and the cars around me since the vehicle doesn’t move out of the road. We had the vehicle towed and the mechanic confirmed that it was the transmission pump. There may have been one warning sign weeks ago, but I thought it was due to water in the gas line which happens often. The warning signs were not significant to what happened with the car not moving.

My husband and I have always been passionate about vehicles. Over the past 10 years, we've owned more than 40 cars for racing, pleasure, and aesthetics. However, my personal favourite was my 2008 Chevy Tahoe, mainly because it sat up higher. Although it was more expensive and cost more to fix, I loved it. After conducting extensive research, I decided on a Journey, which has been perfect for carpooling since my kids have many cousins who like to come over after school. The car has a hidden compartment under the passenger seat and coolers in the floorboard at the middle row seating. If you need more room in the third row, you can slide the middle row forward. I adore the push-button start (as long as the gas light isn't on, then it won't start), and the car has excellent power. I've raced many cars, so I'm not ignorant in that field, and I can drive it hard while still averaging 20+ mpg. My husband is 6'2

I spent a couple of years researching mid-size SUVs and crossovers as I considered replacing my trusty 1997 Dodge The car writers are mistaken if they believe that the Journey is not competitive or capable of meeting the needs of even the most discerning and enthusiastic drivers, such as myself. The only minor issue I have encountered is that the fuel gauge does not go all the way to 'F' when I fill up the tank, and when it reaches 'empty', I still have around 6-7 gallons left in the 20.5-gallon tank. On the bright side, the mileage I am getting and the fuel-tank capacity specified in the specs means that I could drive for over 600 miles if I do not mind driving on 'empty' for a few hours. I am pleased to report that this vehicle has been mostly trouble-free since I purchased it almost two years ago. The only thing I had to fix was one of the HVAC actuators that controls the 'mode' louver, which determines where the air is directed (floor, dash, or windshield). I found an OEM replacement part on eBay for about $10 and a video on YouTube on how to replace it, which took me about an hour. I continue to be impressed by this vehicle's comfort, ride, handling, and power. As of 2023, the factory-installed battery has lasted an impressive 7 years before needing replacement. However, replacing the battery was a strenuous and frustrating process, as it is located on a cramped platform in front of the driver-side wheel well, and you have to jack the car up, take the tire off, and remove a bunch of fiddly fasteners to take out the wheel-well lining before beginning the tedious process of unhooking and removing the battery in tight quarters, then reversing the process to put a replacement in. Another recent issue is that the driver-side seatbelt has stopped retracting, and this will likely be another costly out-of-warranty repair unless I try to fix it myself. Overall, this car has more positives than negatives, but it does have some annoying failures that make me consider trading it in.

Went from a 2004 Toyota Sienna to this and I was amazed at the space and storage areas, which is especially important for me as a parent of three young kids. The mileage has been great and I went with the crossroad edition, which has awesome features. With rebates, I was able to save a ton of money and got it down to $19,900. I absolutely love it!

I did a lot of research on SUVs of all makes since Jan '16, after my second vehicle went to car heaven (it was 14 years old). I'm very analytical when it comes to spending my hard-earned cash, so I wanted to make sure I did my homework! I visited a Hyundai dealership in Rockwall, but unfortunately, no one was willing to deal, so I left. However, the dealership right next door had great people! They did all they could to get me into a Honda CRV, which was almost a sell because those cars are awesome. But, I didn't want to make a hasty decision without doing my research and knowing exactly what trim/package I wanted. Although their offers were fabulous and they were willing to earn my business with extras, I had my heart set on a Dodge Journey, and I was determined to find it or go home and start researching the Honda CRV! They even called me (although too late) to let me know they could get me what I wanted from one of their sister dealerships. That's great customer service and follow-up! In the end, I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned from ROCKWALL DODGE. Melvin, my salesperson, was fabulous. He took our offers seriously, and we made the deal. There was a miscommunication snafu regarding add-ons, but this company was quick to make it right. ROCKWALL DODGE wanted to make me happy not only right then, but in the long years to come, not only with my vehicle but with my entire experience. And they have! Job well done ROCKWALL DODGE! The only thing is that I am missing the key to my wheel locks, but I'm sure this can be resolved. These guys are great! The vehicle is immaculate inside and out, with only one miniature ding on the passenger rear door, which took me a while to find after I got home. My vehicle is a V-6 FWD, not 4cyl AWD.I absolutely love the 'beastly power' of this vehicle, but I always try to use it responsibly (wink). On a recent trip from Rockwall to my home, I was able to cover just under 400 miles on a single tank of gas, and even after driving 20-25 miles daily for a week, I still didn't need to refuel! The color of the car is like a well-tailored power suit for a businessman (insert wolf whistle here). The cargo space is simply amazing, especially with the third row folded down. I use it to carry my ladder and still have plenty of room for my vacation luggage. There are also many hidden compartments for extra storage. The only thing I plan to add to this amazing vehicle is an AMP step on both sides, which will drop down when I open the door. I'm only 5'0 tall and I usually enjoy climbing, but at this point in my life, I can afford to take it easy. So ladies, don't be intimidated by this vehicle. It handles like a dream, and if you have kids with lots of stuff, or if they have friends with lots of stuff, you'll still have plenty of room for your own belongings.

I absolutely love my Red Crossroad plus! I've had it for four months and driven 5500 miles, and it's been a fantastic experience. I opted for the 4cyl engine due to special pricing, and it has exceeded my expectations. The ride is top-notch, and the interior is incredibly quiet with minimal road noise. I traded in my 2010 Honda Accord, which I really liked, but the road noise was a big distraction. The Journey, on the other hand, has a tight, supple ride, crisp handling, and nice steering. It's surprisingly spacious inside, and the crossroad plus has all the bells and whistles, including a fantastic nav system and backup camera. The vehicle turns heads as I drive by, and it's a splendid road trip vehicle. In fact, we took a trip from Texas to Utah and Colorado and had a wonderful time. So far, I haven't had any problems with the car, and I'm very happy with it. Update: It's been four more months since my last review, and I love the Journey even more. With 8000 miles on it, the gas mileage is even better as it gets broken in. It's still as quiet and comfortable as ever. I give it FIVE STARS PLUS! Great job, Dodge!

I purchased a 2016 Dodge Journey two years ago, and unfortunately, the transmission has failed. Despite the fact that this is not my fault, Dodge is requesting that I pay approximately $4,000 out of pocket for a new transmission. As a hardworking single mother, this is an unreasonable request, especially considering that I still owe $12,000 on the vehicle and pay $400 a month. It is disappointing to experience such issues with this SUV, particularly given the 24 recalls that have been issued. Although my vehicle was subject to a recall for the ECM, Dodge has stated that the transmission pump recall does not apply to my vehicle, which I find hard to believe. I have always taken good care of my vehicle, and it is frustrating to be in this situation.

I really appreciate the U connect and heated seats. However, I have had some issues with several sets of tires even with tire rotations and alignments, as well as some Evap system code errors and two repairs. Unfortunately, the vehicle has left me stranded several times even with routine maintenance. It has been the most expensive vehicle I have ever owned in terms of repairs. In my opinion, it would be wise to avoid the Dodge brand to save yourself from similar experiences.

This is the standard issue company car for the company that I work for. Most of my coworkers get the FWD 4 banger, but because I live in the Northeast, they upgraded me to the AWD version, which automatically upgrades the engine to the V6 Pentastar. Note that this outdated engine still requires 3000 mile oil changes. Although it's loud and makes a lot of horsepower, when paired to this obesely overweight compact SUV, it's not very impressive. The transmission slips and clunks around between gears and doesn't downshift quickly enough when you need to floor it. Body roll is noticeable, and it feels a bit insecure around corners at highway speeds. The front seats are heavily bolstered, which might be comfortable for someone shorter and smaller than me, but at 6 feet and 215 lbs, my thighs are sore after a long drive. Steering response feels kind of like stirring a straw in a slushie. Unfortunately, my particular Journey has some sort of electrical defect which causes the headlights to briefly flicker randomly, not to complete darkness, but enough that it is noticeable, and my local Dodge dealer can't figure out the problem. The touchscreen system which controls the radio and climate control system requires way too many touches to change climate settings. Bluetooth is not standard equipment in 2016, which is ridiculous. Rear visibility is abysmal, and a backup camera and/or parking sensors are not standard either. The power window motors sound like they are straining to raise or lower the windows. On the upside, cargo room is excellent, and with the 2nd row seats folded down rivals most midsize SUVs. The 3rd row seating is ok for kids, but adults will be very cramped. Although they are popular due to their affordability, there are many other better choices available.
