The Jeep Cherokee is a line of SUVs manufactured and marketed by Jeep over five generations.

Marketed initially as a variant of the Jeep Wagoneer, the Cherokee has evolved from a full-size SUV to one of the first compact SUVs and into its current generation as a crossover SUV.

Named after the Cherokee tribe of Native Americans in the United States, Jeep has used the nameplate in some capacity since late 1973 when American Motors Corporation introduced the 1974 model year line.

Electrical Issues: On top of all the car’s fundamental problems, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee also has gremlins in its electrical system. Drivers have complaints ranging from lights shutting off while driving to cruise control issues to the automatic locks not working properly.

These issues have led to a high number of complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with more than 250 complaints regarding the engine, over 70 related to the brakes, and around 170 about various electrical problems.

  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I've been advised that the cover over the rear differential is cracked and that the entire differential needs to be replaced. It seems illogical that the cover protecting a rear differential on a Jeep vehicle would be of a material that would crack when the vehicle has not been driven under extreme conditions. Both drivers have been and are currently [XXX] and have not had any citations. My residence is on a dirt road and some of my travel is on dirt roads however the appropriate care is taken. The vehicle is a 2019 with approximately 32,000 miles which indicates that the yearly mileage is low. I would appreciate consideration that the material used for the cover is faulty and that I should not be subject to the expense of replacing it and the rear differential. Fortunately it is not providing problems at this time and I have contacted the dealer to get it repaired/replaced. BUT I truly feel that this is faulty equipment on a JEEP. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: 1C4PJMJN3KD
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
  • Summary: My family and I drove from San Antonio, TX to El Paso, TX on [XXX]. In the car were 4 passengers, including a 11 month old child. At the start of the drive, a warning message that read "4WD overheated. Temporarily unavailable" was seen. The alert showed 1 time and upon a quick search online, was seemingly insignificant. It never showed up again during the drive. We did leave around 4pm so the sun was out and hot, we believed it to be a temporary warning that would not affect our drive as we did not need 4WD during the drive. The jeep did not have a lot of miles on it and was only serviced at the dealership at appropriate windows as recommended by professionals. Once we reached El Paso, a strong smell occurred. Followed shortly by fire and flames coming from the front area, under the hood, near the engine. We pulled off to the side of the road while the flames grew bigger. The infant and all 4 adults were able to exit the vehicle timely but the fire was very large. Many onlookers stopped to check on our welfare. There was an investigation done but all that was said was that there was in fact a fire, and it did in fact start near the front of the vehicle by the engine. Chrysler said they could not determine anything further as there was damage from the fire. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-01
  • VIN: 1C4PJMDN2KD
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Failing part - 8.4" Uconnect radio/control center of the Jeep. The Uconnect system is failing and started ghosting the vehicle, changes the radio, heat and AC, turns on backup camera, calls 911, etc. This specifically becomes a when it starts calling phone numbers and turning backup camera and becomes a distraction to the driver. The problem has been confirmed as the system control panel has delaminated and needs to be replaced by a Jeep Dealer. We were advised to have a Dealer check and confirm the control panel has delaminated and confirm it needs to be replaced. We followed this guidance from Chrysler/Jeep and Uconnect and told that once we did this and they confirmed it needed replaced they would start the process to replace the control panel. There were no warning signs that this was starting and first started about 6 months ago. It has now progressed to nearly every time use the vehicle the control panel starts ghosting all the controls. We have researched and understand that this is an issue with all the Uconnect 8.4 control systems, doesn't matter which vehicle it is in. What we have been able to find is it has been determined a safety issue in other vehicles and Chrysler/Jeep is replacing them. But for us we were told they would only warranty it to 60,000 miles. We have about 89,xxx miles on our Jeep. I don't understand how it can be determined a safety issue and Chrysler/Jeep can get by only covering this to 60,000 miles. It becomes a major safety issue when it randomly and constantly starts changing the temperature, fan speed, back up camera, radio, calling numbers including 911, this can only be stopped by turning the system completely off. this causes loss of many functions to the vehicle.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus 8/2018. I noticed that while driving with the air conditioner on, my car made a loud almost horn sound under the hood for about 30 seconds. It only happens when I use the air conditioner and during this time, I get a warm burst of air on my legs, only on the driver's side. When I took it to the service department, they said they couldn't recreate the issue. However, they were able to solve the problem with my radio screen by updating it. This summer of 2019, during a humid morning, my car was sluggish for the first couple of minutes. Last week, my transmission jerked really hard pulling into traffic, and the next day did it again mildly. I just picked it up from the service department, and they said I have to wait until it is bad or a warning light comes on, as they couldn't recreate either problem. I have the extended warranty, thankfully, but it's still frustrating. So, my question is, what happens if I'm on a road trip and get stuck in a secluded area? Thanks for your help!

If you're considering purchasing this car, I would strongly advise against it. Our experience with it has been extremely disappointing. Despite having only 2800 miles on the odometer, we are already looking to trade it in. The acceleration is poor, and we are only getting 13 miles to the gallon, which is very low for a 4 cylinder car. In fact, it's the worst vehicle I've ever owned, and I've had some bad experiences in the past. I want to be clear that I don't just dislike this car, I really can't stand it. I hope this information helps you make an informed decision about your purchase.

The car experienced a complete failure within three days of purchase and had to be towed in on a flat bed. Despite multiple visits to the shop and the use of three loaner cars, the issue persists with a persistent noise while the window operates. The car has spent more time in the shop than in my possession, which is six months. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this car.

The vehicle stalls out unexpectedly, which has been a recurring issue for many owners of this particular model. Despite purchasing my Latitude in December 2018, I experienced this problem for the first time when I stopped at a busy intersection and the car wouldn't start again. After turning it off and on again, it eventually started but the issue persisted. I took it to the dealership and they claimed it was a bad connection, which they fixed. However, the problem resurfaced two months later when the car stalled again while I was leaving work. The dealership then attributed the issue to the need for an oil change, but I found it strange that the car was running fine when stationary. Although I was overdue for an oil change, the amount of oil that had leaked out was excessive for only 10,000 miles. Despite the dealership's insistence that the issue was due to the oil, I remain unconvinced and will continue to monitor the situation.

I bought the 2019 Latitude in mid-November 2018. Unfortunately, by Christmas, I noticed that the rear passenger floorboard was soaked. I initially thought it was due to the rain in our area and people tracking in water from their shoes and boots. However, in January, I noticed an awful smell coming from my purse and leather coat that I had put out of sight while at work. It took me two weeks to schedule an appointment to have the wet floor checked, and the dealership kept my Jeep for a week. They reported that the issue was caused by a lack of sealant where the two sides of the body meet underneath, but even after they replaced all the carpets, the smell persisted. Unfortunately, I ended up getting a bad sinus infection and had to take a week off work. One month later, the carpet was wet again under the front passenger seat and floor, and the rubber floor mats were covered in mold and mildew. I had to take my Jeep back to the dealership, and this time they had it for five weeks. They found additional leaks in the wheel well and replaced all the carpets and installed a new headliner. I've had my Jeep back for 10 days now, but I'm still afraid to drive it in the rain or wash it. I'm currently waiting for Chrysler Corporation and the dealership to work out the details so that I can get into a new Jeep. I'm not willing to tolerate any additional repairs, as the value and stability of my current Jeep have been compromised too much.

Positive 2019 Jeep Cherokee car reviews

I hope you're enjoying your new car! It sounds like you made a great choice with the loaded limited Cherokee and the upgraded turbo engine. The interior and exterior are both beautiful, and it's great to hear that you love it even more than your previous Grand Cherokee. Plus, it sounds like you got a good deal on the price. Congratulations!

I love this Cherokee! It's really smooth and the 2.4 Multair is perfect for NYC driving. The fit and finish are good, and the uconnect system is fantastic. I will always get a Jeep from now on.

I read a lot of reviews on the 2018 model and noticed that many people were complaining about the inline-4 engine. That's why I decided to go for the V6. The Jeep replaced our 2016 Mazda CX5, which we had leased. After comparing the two, we found that we love the feel of the Jeep much more. It's more comfortable inside, has a more solid ride, and the transmission is more responsive. By the way, we absolutely love the sunroof! The only drawbacks we've noticed are the small gas tank and poorer MPG, which means more trips to the pump. Other than that, we have no complaints. We've had it for 8 months now, and (knock on wood) we haven't had any issues so far. If possible, I'll update the review in a year or two to see if any problems come up.

I'm currently three weeks into my lease of a 2019 Cherokee Limited with panoramic moonroof/nav package and 3.2L V6 engine. While the car is very smooth and quiet on the highway, I have noticed some issues with the 9-speed auto transmission when driving locally. From a standing stop and accelerating from an intersection, there is a hesitation that can make it difficult and dangerous to merge with fast-moving traffic. Additionally, I have to manually turn off the ESP every morning when I leave home because going over speed bumps in my complex and on local streets makes the ESP kick in and stall the car for a few seconds, no matter how slow I take the bump! I wish there was an option to disable it completely. On my previous car (Lincoln MKZ), the remote start had a green/red LED indicator that confirmed whether or not the remote actually started the car. Unfortunately, the Jeep does not have this feature, so I sometimes have to check if the car is running or not. Furthermore, the car did not come with an owner's manual, which was disappointing. I spoke to Jeep, and they said it was the dealer's discretion to include one or not. Also, there is no cargo area cover included, which is surprising for a car at this price point. I had to make an additional trip to Jeep to buy the cover for $150, on top of the $40 for the owner's manual. Lastly, I was informed by my local dealer that I will have to wait until 2019 to buy a tow hitch, as they currently have no part numbers or photos. If I could get out of this lease right now, I would.

I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your selection! The Trailhawk is truly a unique small SUV, with its powerful 3.2l V6 engine and impressive towing capacity. Its good looks have also been improved from the 2018 model. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us.
