The Jaguar XJ is a series of mid-size/full-size luxury cars produced by British automobile manufacturer Jaguar Cars (becoming Jaguar Land Rover in 2013) from 1968 to 2019. It was produced across five basic platform generations (debuting in 1968, 1986, 1994, 2003, and 2009) with various updated derivatives of each. From 1970, it was Jaguar's flagship four-door model. Series 1, 2, and 3 (1968–1992)
Overview
The first generation Jaguar XJ was produced for a total period of 24 years, with two major facelifts – in 1973 and in 1979, with a raised front bumper and less tall grilles.
For four years, the 1968 introduced XJ was always a four-door, straight-six saloon on a 2.76 m (108.75 in) wheelbase. In 1972, a more spacious, 4-inch (10 cm) longer wheelbase (LWB) option, and a 5.3 litre V12 engine were added. On the XJ series II (from 1973), the standard wheelbase (SWB) saloons were cancelled in 1974 – but a SWB two-door (series II only) coupé was sold from 1975–1978.
The 1979 series III saloons received a redesigned greenhouse (upper body) and bumpers. The 6-cylinder series III models were replaced by the second generation Jaguar XJ in 1987, but the V12 models not until 1992.

- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Jaguar XJ vehicles manufactured September 12, 2016, to October 26, 2016. The affected vehicles have a front passenger air bag inflator initiator that may fail to ignite during a crash, preventing the air bag from deploying.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash of sufficient severity, the front passenger air bag may not deploy as required, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 20, 2017. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J080.

This is a fantastic luxury sedan that I have owned for two years without any issues. While the electronic features may be overwhelming for some, they are a popular feature in today's cars. In comparison to my previous Mercedes CLS 550, this car is far superior and trouble-free. I am now a proud owner of two Jaguars and have no plans to return to Benz.

UPDATE: Hi there! Just wanted to share that this is still my absolute favorite car out of all the ones I've owned. It's incredibly reliable, super quiet at cruise speeds, and handles corners like a dream. The only downside has been the dealer service, which has been a bit inept - I've had to return 4 times just to reset the service indicator warning. But overall, it's simply the best car I've ever owned! I've owned many Mercedes in the past, but I grew tired of their mundane interiors and lately their Rube Goldberg exterior styling. The interior of this car is so much more luxurious and inviting than any Mercedes I've owned. The doors close with a solid 'thunk', which really reflects the quality of the car. The instrumentation is straightforward, and the audio quality is far beyond anything we've heard from Mercedes. Despite the negative reviews of the audio/navigation system, we've found this system to be much more user-friendly and easier to program than Mercedes' clunky system.

My 'Italian Racing Red' car has been running flawlessly for the past three years with only regular maintenance required. I purchased it in February 2015 with 15,000 miles on the odometer and have taken meticulous care of it ever since. If I notice any issues, I schedule an appointment with my Jaguar dealer. During the first year of ownership, I experienced some issues with the steering, water pump, electrical system, and a few other items, but all were covered under warranty. After all the bugs were shaken out during my first year, I have total confidence that the car is in excellent shape and I am extremely happy with my purchase. I even drove from Long Island, NY to Arizona (where I spent a few months) and back without any issues. The real-world MPG going to Arizona was 30.5mpg. I now have 48,200 miles on the car and it is out of the 'Jaguar Certified' period. In my opinion, it's always best to have a Jaguar dealer work on the XJ, as a special set of tools is required for this model and other Jaguar model tools will not work with the XJ. While oil changes, tires, and parts can be expensive, the service interval is every 10,000 miles. You'll be riding in a car that turns heads, is comfortable, and a pleasure to drive. As of December 2021, I have 58,000 miles on the car. I was reimbursed 100% by Jaguar for the oxygen sensor that was replaced earlier and was given a 15-year/150,000-mile extended warranty (a Jaguar initiative) on all my oxygen sensors. I had a manifold coolant leak repaired by Jaguar ($1900) and also replaced the front tires (for the first time). I had the battery replaced by Jaguar (for the first time) even though the old battery was still okay; I just wanted it changed because it was over 8 years old. All else is solidly good! I'm still extremely happy with my car.

It's a big, comfortable car that's beautiful to look at and drive. You can't go wrong with the Jaguar XJL if you're looking for a fine automobile that will get you noticed!

I've owned performance oriented cars of all kinds, but this is my first foray into the luxury side of things. I've had two previous Jaguars and absolutely adored them for their speed, comfort, and beauty. One thing I appreciate about these cars is that they stand out from the typical German crowd. Unlike the German cars, they offer a variety of color and interior choices, which is a refreshing change. By the way, I've also owned several German cars in the past.

I've had my 2016 XJL Portfolio for a year now and while I love the car's luxurious look and driving performance, I have to admit that the infotainment system is not up to par with other luxury car brands like Mercedes, Audi, and BMW. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth and hands-free system have never worked properly since day one and are completely unreliable. I've also had trouble playing music from my phone. Dealing with these electronic glitches has been a hassle and getting assistance from Jaguar and the dealer has been difficult. Despite my disappointment with these issues, I still appreciate the car's luxury and performance. However, I would not recommend this car unless you have a lot of patience.

The XJ's performance in rain and snow is subpar, despite being equipped with AWD. It is worth noting that the heated windshield may cause glare for those who wear eyeglasses, as reported by some users on Google. Unfortunately, when attempting to exchange the vehicle after three months and 2400 miles, we were informed that its value had decreased by $30,000 from the original purchase price. However, we are fortunate that it is a lease and we eagerly anticipate the end of the term.

This car is undeniably comfortable and beautiful, with an unbeatable Meridian Sound system. However, the infotainment system has proven to be unreliable, with issues such as difficulty indexing an iPod, repeating songs, and other odd behaviors. The clock also resets to military time without explanation, and sensors occasionally turn off. While these issues are frustrating, they can be resolved with firmware upgrades, which unfortunately only provide temporary solutions. At its price point of $80,000, it is unacceptable to have to deal with these daily frustrations. A more reliable infotainment system would greatly enhance the overall experience of owning this car. Additionally, the service at Jaguar of Marin could be improved to better meet the needs of customers. Despite these setbacks, I remain confident in the quality of this car and its potential to provide a truly exceptional driving experience.
