Common 2001 Jaguar S-type problems
The Jaguar S-Type, produced between 1999 and 2009, has gained a reputation for several common problems that owners have experienced. This article will discuss these issues in detail, based on the complaints and experiences shared by Jaguar S-Type owners
- Rear Suspension Bushings: The Jaguar S-Type's rear suspension bushings, known as Hydra bushes, are fluid-filled and tend to wear out relatively quickly. This wear can lead to a terrible clunking sound when driving. The bushings in question include the rear shock lower bushing and the three bushings on the rear lower control arm. While these bushings can be replaced, it requires pressing out and pressing back in, which can be a complex process.
- Automatic Climate Control: The automatic climate control system in the Jaguar S-Type is prone to failure, particularly the climate control valve (CCV) located in the engine compartment. This failure can result in the system not functioning correctly or even triggering a check engine light. The CCV is a critical component of the climate control system, and its failure can affect the overall performance and comfort of the vehicle.
- Transmission Issues: The 2003 Jaguar S-Type, equipped with a five-speed Getrag transmission and sport package, has reported issues with the throw-out bearing. This component is integrated with the slave cylinder in a concentric way, and when it fails, the entire transmission must be replaced. Additionally, the transmission mount can also fail due to leaks, causing the rubber to melt away over time.
- Evap Leaks: Evap leaks can trigger a check engine light, and they can be difficult to diagnose. These leaks can be small or large and may require the use of a homemade smoke machine to locate the source of the problem. While the parts needed to fix the issue are not typically expensive, accessing some of the components can be challenging, especially the carbon canister, which is buried between the body and the rear subframe.
- Seat Belt Warning System: The seat belt warning system in the Jaguar S-Type has been known to malfunction, triggering a warning even when the seat belts are properly fastened. This issue can be caused by a faulty sensor or wiring problems related to a sensor. Other potential causes include an improperly released park brake or a door or bootlid not being fully closed.
These common problems with the Jaguar S-Type can significantly impact the vehicle's performance, comfort, and safety. Owners of these vehicles should be aware of these issues and consider addressing them promptly to ensure the longevity and reliability of their vehicles.
