1987 Dodge D50 problems
The Mitsubishi Triton or Mitsubishi L200 is a mid-size pickup truck produced by Mitsubishi Motors. In Japan, where it has only been sold intermittently and in small numbers, it was originally known as the Mitsubishi Forte and from 1991 as the Strada. In the United States, Chrysler Corporation sold captive imports as the Dodge D50, Dodge Ram 50 and Plymouth Arrow truck, and Mitsubishi marketed it as the Mitsubishi Mighty Max until 2002.
For most export markets the name L200 is used, though it has also been known as the Rodeo, Colt, Storm, Magnum, Strakar (used in Portugal since 1999; Strakar is a portmanteau of Strada and Dakar), and others. In 2015, Fiat Professional launched a rebadged version as the Fiat Fullback. In 2016, Ram Trucks launched a rebadged version as the Ram 1200 for the Middle East market.
Cumulative sales of the first three generations exceeded 2.8 million units around the world. As of February 2021, the pickup truck is sold in every available Mitsubishi market except the United States, Canada, Japan, India and China. In Japan, it was previously sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza.

Common 1987 Dodge D50 problems
Exhaust Leak at Header Pipe
One of the common problems with the Dodge Ram 50 1987 is an exhaust leak at the header pipe. This issue can occur due to loose or damaged exhaust manifold bolts, corrosion, or a damaged gasket between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head. The leak can cause a decrease in engine performance, increased emissions, and a loud exhaust noise. To fix this problem, the exhaust manifold bolts should be tightened or replaced, and the gasket should be checked for damage and replaced if necessary.
Whining Noise from Oil Pump
Another common issue with the Dodge Ram 50 1987 is a whining noise from the oil pump. This noise can be caused by a worn-out oil pump, low oil pressure, or a damaged oil pump drive gear. The noise can be heard when the engine is running, especially at idle or low speeds. To fix this problem, the oil pump should be replaced, or the oil pump drive gear should be checked for damage and replaced if necessary.
Engine Noise due to Carbon Buildup
Engine noise due to carbon buildup is also a common problem with the Dodge Ram 50 1987. This issue can occur due to the accumulation of carbon deposits on the intake valves, piston rings, and cylinder walls. The carbon buildup can cause a knocking or ticking noise from the engine, especially during cold starts or at high speeds. To fix this problem, the engine should be decarbonized using a chemical cleaning agent, or the intake valves and piston rings should be cleaned or replaced.
Engine Oil Leaks
Engine oil leaks are a common issue with the Dodge Ram 50 1987, and they can occur due to worn-out or damaged seals and gaskets, loose oil drain plugs, or corrosion. To fix this problem, the oil seals and gaskets should be checked for damage and replaced if necessary, and the oil drain plugs should be tightened or replaced.
Excessive Engine Oil Consumption
Excessive engine oil consumption is a common problem with the Dodge Ram 50 1987, and it can occur due to worn-out piston rings, damaged cylinder walls, or a faulty PCV system. The excessive oil consumption can cause a decrease in engine performance, increased emissions, and a risk of engine damage due to low oil levels. To fix this problem, the piston rings and cylinder walls should be checked for damage and replaced if necessary, and the PCV system should be inspected and repaired if necessary.
Fuel Injector Issues
Fuel injector issues are a common problem with the Dodge Ram 50 1987, and they can occur due to clogged or dirty fuel injectors, a faulty fuel pump, or a damaged fuel pressure regulator. The fuel injector issues can cause a decrease in engine performance, increased emissions, and a risk of engine damage due to fuel starvation. To fix this problem, the fuel injectors should be cleaned or replaced, and the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator should be inspected and repaired if necessary.
Carburetor Issues
Carburetor issues are a common problem with the Dodge Ram 50 1987, and they can occur due to a clogged or dirty carburetor, a faulty fuel pump, or a damaged fuel pressure regulator. The carburetor issues can cause a decrease in engine performance, increased emissions, and a risk of engine damage due to fuel starvation. To fix this problem, the carburetor should be cleaned or replaced, and the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator should be inspected and repaired if necessary.
Overheating Issues
Overheating issues are a common problem with the Dodge Ram 50 1987, and they can occur due to a faulty radiator, a damaged water pump, or a low coolant level. The overheating issues can cause a decrease in engine performance, increased emissions, and a risk of engine damage due to high temperatures. To fix this problem, the radiator should be checked for damage and replaced if necessary, and the water pump and coolant level should be inspected and repaired if necessary.
Transmission Issues
Transmission issues are a common problem with the Dodge Ram 50 1987, and they can occur due to worn-out clutch plates, a damaged torque converter, or a low transmission fluid level. The transmission issues can cause a decrease in vehicle performance, increased emissions, and a risk of transmission failure. To fix this problem, the clutch plates and torque converter should be checked for damage and replaced if necessary, and the transmission fluid level should be inspected and repaired if necessary.
Suspension Issues
Suspension issues are a common problem with the Dodge Ram 50 1987, and they can occur due to worn-out suspension components, a damaged steering system, or a misaligned suspension.
