2018 Infiniti Qx60 problems

infiniti logo

The Infiniti QX60, called the Infiniti JX until the 2014 model year, is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV with three-row seating produced by Infiniti, the luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Nissan. It is underpinned by an elongated Nissan Murano platform also used by the Nissan Pathfinder.

In keeping with Infiniti's naming scheme for 2014, in which cars begin with Q and SUVs begin with QX, the JX was renamed to QX60. While the number previously denoted engine displacement (for example, 35=3.5L engine), the new number, 60, is largely to do with its place in the product lineup, with larger numbers usually corresponding to more expensive vehicles.

First generation (L50; 2013)

The Infiniti JX35 was announced in April 2012 in the United States as a 2013 model. A concept version had been debuted at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event, while the production model was unveiled at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. For 2014, the car was renamed the QX60.

The QX60 was the first three-row crossover to be released by Infiniti. Design work was done through 2009, by Naoyuki Ohkoshi under Shiro Nakamura. In 2012 Nissan announced that the Pathfinder would also have the same platform as the QX60 for the 2013 model year.

The QX60 had previously been under consideration for the Australian market, but the numbers for right-hand-drive re-engineering and local homologation failed to add up and get approved by Australian authorities unlike its Nissan Pathfinder sibling. This results that the QX60 would not be available in RHD markets as it would only be available exclusively in LHD markets.

Common 2018 Infiniti Qx60 problems

The 2018 Infiniti QX60 has encountered several common problems reported by owners:

  • Safety System Issues: Some owners have experienced safety system issues within the first 10,000 miles, usually due to sensors malfunctioning. In some cases, resetting the safety system can resolve the problem, while in others, sensor replacements on the bumpers may be necessary, costing around $250.
  • Paint Fade Issues: Owners have reported paint fade problems around 55,000 miles, particularly on large flat surfaces like the hood and roof when left in direct sunlight unprotected. Resolving paint fade requires repainting affected areas, with an estimated cost of around $1,000 per panel.
  • Brake Fluid Leak Recall: A recall on the 2018 QX60 involves brake fluid leaking into the ABS pump, increasing the risk of a fire. Infiniti offers to replace the ABS actuator for free on affected models.

These issues, while relatively common among 2018 Infiniti QX60 owners, are considered minor and manageable with proper maintenance and timely repairs.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-07-15
  • VIN: 5N1DL0MN0JC
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: Malfunction of Power Train from 2018 Infiniti QX60. On July 19th, I visited Infiniti of Beachwood due to engine error light (error code P0776, CVT tranmission malfunction) of 2018 Infiniti QX60 (VIN: 5N1DL0MN0JC533475, mileage 79600). Infiniti dealer service at beachwood asked me wait untill they receive transmission warranty approval from their regional Headquarter. During last 3 weeks, I called more than 20 times but warranty service was still not approved, and on 7th August Infiniti Service manager asked me to bring the car back regardless of driver's safety with mal-functioning transmission when I complained by phone. According to Court Quality Action on March 29th 2022, CVT Warranty of 2015-2018 Infiniti QX60, effective from June 1st 2022, was extended to 96th months/94,000 miles from 72 months/70,000 miles, therefore Infiniti should approve and provide warranty service immediately without approval pending on this. However, Infiniti does not respect Court decision of transmission warranty, nor does not provide warranty service properly timely either including irresponsible attitude of service employees as well. I want Infiniti USA to follow up the court decision of transmission warranty coverage of transmission to be applied immediately to replace it.

POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-02-01
  • VIN: 5N1DL0mm7JC
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
  • Summary: I purchased my 2018 QX60 in 2021 at Competition Infiniti as a certified pre-own vehicle. I soon began to hear a rattling noise and the steering wheel would vibrate a little. I brought the vehicle back to the dealer several times with this complain and they keep telling me that their is nothing that the can do for me because that’s the way the vehicle is built. The noise as I was told is common in QX60 models and that I’m not the only person that has complained about it. I told him that I don’t expect for a $30,000+ Luxury vehicle to sound that. They also explained to me that it was something that was built in the vehicle to help with fuel efficiency. I think he called it a Droner or something like that. I love the look my vehicle but I hate driving my vehicle because of this noise. I filed a complaint with Infiniti consumer service as well, who instruct me to have the fail inspected by another Infiniti dealer to make sure the dealer is not refusing to fix the problem. I am disgusted that a vehicle that I purchased at an Infiniti dealer is sounding like this. If you can provide any help in this matter, it would be greatly appreciated.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-03-25
  • VIN: 5N1DL0MM2JC
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: THIS PROBLEMATIC INFINITI QX60 HAD FAILED ONCE AGAIN WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. IT'S JUST DEAD AND THE ENGINE REFUSED TO START. I HAD TO CALL THE TOW TRUCK TO DROP OFF AT THE KINGS INFINITI AUTO SHOP FOR REPAIR. FIRST, IT WAS A HUGE INCONVENIENCE THAT THEY COULDN'T TAKE A LOOK AT THE VEHICLE UNTIL A WEEK LATER. SECOND, NO ONE EVER OFFERED ME A LOANER CAR TO TAKE HOME AND HAS STILL DENIED THIS REQUEST. WE DEPEND ON THIS FOR WORK AND SCHOOL. THIRD, JUST TODAY I WAS INFORMED BY THE INFINITI TECHNICIAN THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR FEES OF $13,000 DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE! SERIOUSLY?! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF IT FROM ANYWHERE. TO ME THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND I STRONGLY BELIEVE IT IS THE MANUFACTURER GUILTY OF THE CAR ISSUES AND SUSPECTING THIS IS A CAR DEALER FRAUD. $13,000 REPAIR COST IS RIDICULOUSLY HIGH, YOU COULD PUT DOWN A DOWN PAYMENT FOR A CONDO OR TO BUY A LOWER GRADE NISSAN SENDRA. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AT THE UNRELIABILITY OF THIS VEHICLE AND THE COMPANY IN GENERAL. I'VE BEEN LEASING VEHICLES FROM NUMEROUS CAR BRANDS FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED AN ISSUE EVEN REMOTELY TEDIOUS AND FRUSTRATING AS THIS. WE'VE ALREADY DEALT WITH THE MINOR ISSUES OURSELVES BUT HOW COULD WE BE EXPECTED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ENGINE FAILURE THAT ISN'T OUR FAULT? AS I HAD MENTIONED ABOVE, I HAVE REGULARLY KEPT UP THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE AS LISTED ON THE CAR MANUAL FOR ALL TYPES OF OIL CHANGE, CHANGING ENGINE FILTER, ETC. I'M ATTACHING ALL THE RECEIPTS WE COULD FIND FOR THE MAINTENANCE SERVICES THAT WERE DONE FROM THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE THAT THE ENGINE COULD FAIL DUE TO "LACK OF MAINTENANCE".

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-12-03
  • VIN: 5N1DL0MM7JC
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I PREVIOUSLY LEASED THE QX50 AND HAD NO ISSUES WITH THAT VEHICLE. WE TRADED IT IN FOR MORE ROOM AND UPGRADED TO THE QX60. BRAKES BEGAN SQUEALING INTERMITTENTLY 6 MONTHS AFTER LEASING (LEASED BRAND NEW IN JUNE 2018) AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WE LEASED IT FROM. THE SQUEAL OCCURS WHEN DRIVING IN REVERSE DURING APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES. (MY HUSBAND BELIEVES ITS AN ISSUE WITH THE CALIPERS.) WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. AT THE SECOND SERVICE DEPARTMENT (SERVICED IN JULY 2019 SINCE THE SQUEALING HAS GOTTEN MUCH WORSE) I WAS HANDED A "SERVICE BULLETIN" SAYING THAT THE NOISE IS NORMAL, AND NO SERVICE ACTION IS NECESSARY (SEE ATTACHED BULLETIN FOR MORE DETAILS). I CONTACTED THE INFINITI CONSUMER AFFAIRS GROUP AND FILED A COMPLAINT. I WAS TOLD TODAY (7/26/19) THAT THERE WAS NO COURSE FOR VEHICLE REPLACEMENT OR REPAIRS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AT THIS TIME. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH ON INFINITI VEHICLES AND THERE ARE REPEATED ISSUES WITH BRAKES ON DIFFERENT MAKES AND MODELS. ONE WAS A SEVERE ACCIDENT IN 2012 WHERE THE BRAKES FALTERED ON A QX56 AND 3 FAMILY MEMBERS WERE KILLED. INFINITI WAS HELD LIABLE AND PAID $25M. ANOTHER MORE RECENT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT (2016) HAS BEEN FILED ON THE QS50 BY AN INDIVIDUAL IN CALIFORNIA, THAT CLAIMS HE HAS HAD NUMEROUS BRAKE ISSUES (SEE CASE NO. 2:16-CV-07378) WITH NO RESOLUTION WITH INFINITI. IN THIS PARTICULAR CLAIM, IT SITES A 2014 LITIGATION OVER DEFECTIVE BRAKES THAT WERE CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE IN MULTIPLE MODELS. NO OTHER DETAILS WERE AVAILABLE ON THE 2014 LITIGATION. WHAT CAN THE NHTSA DO TO EITHER TAKE INFINITI OFF OF AMERICAN ROADS UNTIL THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED OR TAKE SERIOUS ACTION AGAINST INFINITI TO FORCE THEM TO PROVIDE THEIR DRIVERS WITH SAFE BRAKING SYSTEMS?

2019-11-08
  • Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
  • Park Out Side: 1
  • Park Out Side: 1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP
  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Nissan Murano, 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima, and 2017-2019 Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and unrepaired, or inspected and determined to not need a repair, under recall number 18V-601. In addition, this recall expands the previous population. The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) actuator pumps may allow brake fluid to leak onto an internal circuit board.
  • Consequence: A brake fluid leak on the circuit board may result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ABS actuator, free of charge. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available, currently expected to be during summer 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Note: If the ABS warning light remains illuminated for more than 10 seconds after engine start up, owners are advised to park the vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles or structures and to not drive the vehicle.

Negative 2018 Infiniti Qx60 car reviews

  1. Merlin Fahey 2024-10-12

I previously owned an rx3tp for 12 years without any issues, but when it was time to get a new car, I decided to go with Infiniti as it seemed like a better value. Unfortunately, I have regretted this decision ever since. The car has loose trim pieces and lacks quality, with rust appearing after only 2 years. Despite thinking that the loose trim pieces would be covered by warranty, the dealership refused to fix them and told me to go back to the dealership I bought the car from, which is far away. Additionally, while I paid for an oil change and tire rotation, Infiniti charged me full price to change my tires from winter to summer, unlike Lexus who would include this service if you paid for a tire rotation. It seems like Infiniti nickel and dimes their customers and won't repair things under warranty, which is not what you would expect from a luxury dealership. While the car is okay and I don't mind the cvt, which I was initially worried about, the ac is terrible and blows hot air in the summer at anything below the lowest temperature setting. The dealership has acknowledged this as a known issue, and I have seen reviews that mention this as well. The lane centering in this model is brake-based and not steering wheel-based, making it practically useless. The car is also out of date without android auto, but this doesn't bother me too much. In hindsight, I realize that I thought I was saving money, but this car will end up costing me more than a Lexus when you take into account resale and warranty work that I have to pay out of pocket. I strongly advise against buying this car, as it may seem like a deal, but you will regret it.

My QX60 has a drumming noise that is not tolerable for long distance driving. The dealer's attempts to resolve the issue have been unsuccessful. It is imperative that this issue is addressed as soon as possible to ensure a comfortable and safe driving experience.

Although I initially had some issues with this vehicle, I have taken the necessary steps to address them and am now satisfied with its performance. The rattling noise in the back seat behind the driver's seat was fixed by the dealer, and I have found the heating system to be adequate with the help of the heated seats and steering wheel. While it may not be perfect, I have no doubt in the quality and reliability of this vehicle.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Infiniti. While I've always been impressed with the longevity of VW's, my Infiniti has unfortunately required some brake maintenance after only 42,000 KMs and 20 months of ownership. However, I do want to note that my vehicles are always serviced by the dealership where I purchased them. Overall, my Infiniti is a comfortable and good vehicle, but the brake issue was a bit disappointing. Thanks for listening!

Positive 2018 Infiniti Qx60 car reviews

The Infiniti QX60 is designed to comfortably seat seven people. However, the headrests of the second-row seats can obstruct the view of the entertainment screens for children sitting in the third row. This can make it difficult for them to enjoy the entertainment. Additionally, putting the kids in the second row seats to view the screens can make the grandparents in the third row feel cramped, especially when it comes to foot space. It can also be challenging to talk over the entertainment happening in the second row. Infiniti should consider real-world usage scenarios to improve this aspect of the vehicle.

The quality is superb and although the controls may take a little getting used to, they are fine once you get the hang of them. The dealer sales person was a true professional who knew the product well and took the time to find out what I wanted and what would best fit my needs. The whole experience was hassle-free and so far, my expectations of what a new car should be have been met. Now that I have driven it for 6 months, I am pleased to report that the gas mileage is fantastic for such a large car and it still rides as nicely as it did when we first drove it. I would highly recommend this car to anyone.

You drove for a month? That's great to hear!

I really love this car and everything about it, except for one thing. Unfortunately, the technology is not up to par with other car companies. While almost every other car company provides Apple CarPlay or some type of better option, this one just lacks in options and shuts the music down when you open certain things. I was spoiled by the Apple CarPlay in my previous Honda Civic and expected to like the technology in this car better, but it's just boring and bland. As a growing family, we upgraded and I wish they would improve the technology. Despite this, I still love everything else about the car. Considering even the base model is expensive, I would expect a better tech experience.
