Infiniti Qx60 problems

infiniti logo

The Infiniti QX60, called the Infiniti JX until the 2014 model year, is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV with three-row seating produced by Infiniti, the luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Nissan. It is underpinned by an elongated Nissan Murano platform also used by the Nissan Pathfinder.

In keeping with Infiniti's naming scheme for 2014, in which cars begin with Q and SUVs begin with QX, the JX was renamed to QX60. While the number previously denoted engine displacement (for example, 35=3.5L engine), the new number, 60, is largely to do with its place in the product lineup, with larger numbers usually corresponding to more expensive vehicles.

First generation (L50; 2013)

The Infiniti JX35 was announced in April 2012 in the United States as a 2013 model. A concept version had been debuted at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event, while the production model was unveiled at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. For 2014, the car was renamed the QX60.

The QX60 was the first three-row crossover to be released by Infiniti. Design work was done through 2009, by Naoyuki Ohkoshi under Shiro Nakamura. In 2012 Nissan announced that the Pathfinder would also have the same platform as the QX60 for the 2013 model year.

The QX60 had previously been under consideration for the Australian market, but the numbers for right-hand-drive re-engineering and local homologation failed to add up and get approved by Australian authorities unlike its Nissan Pathfinder sibling. This results that the QX60 would not be available in RHD markets as it would only be available exclusively in LHD markets.

  • VIN: 5N1AL0MM5FC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The car intermittently will not accelerate after being idle at stop signs etc. this has occurred on 3-5 instances in the last 4 months. All but one time when getting the vehicle later it didn't have any issues. The battery has been tested and is good, I cleaned the terminals and still had it occur. Upon reading an Infiniti forum it sounds like it is an intermittent alternator issue or electric module. This put my daughter in a stalled vehicle in an intersection several times after trying to troubleshoot issues to resolve it.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-01
  • Date Complaint: 2024-09-19
  • VIN: 5N1DL0MM7HC
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Vehicle began ticking in early 2023. Then received check engine light and trouble codes P0014 and P0017. Took to Infiniti dealership. Dealership claimed "sludge - you did not change oil regularly, " which I did - either at Valvoline, Wal-Mart, or by myself. Multiple online forums about Infiniti QX60 indicate all the dealership mechanics are saying the SAME thing to customers who are having this issue. Dealership claimed vehicle would need NEW engine priced at over $17,000!! They are doing this nationwide and globally. Infiniti KNOWS there is an engine defect leading to sludge and failed engine. My engine did fail in April 2024, but thankfully in my home driveway and not at high speeds - this would have been deadly had it happened on a major highway!

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-02
  • Date Complaint: 2024-08-06
  • VIN: 5N1DL1GS3PC
  • Components: LANE DEPARTURE
  • Summary: Warning light came on saying that the Lane departure warning and Forward were not working. Another message said "Unavailable High Cabin Temperature". After further investigation 2 of the 3 advanced navigation aids were flashing which means they may not be working correctly. In reality 1; the lane departure warning and functions stopped working. 2; Cruise Control was working. 3; Vehicle to vehicle distance control or AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) seemed to work. I did not feel comfortable fully testing this last mode out. I did not want to accidently crash into the vehicle in front of me. 4. The Blind spot stopped working. 5. The TSR (Traffic Sign Recognition) seemed to stop working also. We have pictures and a video of the issues on the instrument cluster if needed. We were driving from Del CA to our home in Mesa AZ. First part of the trip Del Mar to Yuma AZ was fine. We stopped for lunch in Yuma AZ for like an hour. Outside temperature was like 109. No issues when we continued on toward glia Bend AZ. We stopped in Gila Bend AZ for a quick break. My safety was put at risk on my last quarter of my drive between Gila Bend AZ to my Home in Mesa AZ. I could no longer rely on the lane departure, Intelligent Lane Intervention and Blind Spot detection/intervention etc... We took our 2023 Infinity QX60 to Coulter Infinity Mesa to have the vehicle checked out on 8/3/24. No issue found. I even notified them that After understanding that the air was due to the cabin temperature, that I set my side of the vehicle to the LO setting which is 60 degrees. My wife already had her side of the car to like 68 degrees. When we got home I opened the hood almost immediately to check (feel) the AC units lines. They were both the same temperature as the outdoor air. Like 110. If there is technology that would allow these cameras to operate at above the 104 degrees stared in Technical Service bulletin ITB22-035 dated October 10, 2022, I feel a recall is in order. Thank You

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-02
  • Date Complaint: 2024-08-03
  • VIN: 5N1AL0MN9FC
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: We purchased this vehicle 3 days ago. Day 2 there was a transmission shudder. I know these cvt transmissions have issues but with less than 18k miles??? I looked up and yes infiniti extended the warranty but we no longer qualify for this I don't think this is fair! IT HAS 18K MILES on it. The fact infiniti didn't recall the transmission is ridiculous. There are thousands of people experiencing shudder issues, cars dying, this is a danger to the drivers and their families. Why is there no recall? Extending a warranty didn't do anything! This cvt needs to be recalled and fixed so people aren't in danger of crashing.

Latest negative Infiniti Qx60 car reviews

  1. Marlin Ritchie 2025-11-13

    Vehicle year: 2023

We really appreciated all the amenities and styling that the new QX60 offers, but unfortunately we experienced some issues. Firstly, the front heated seats only get lukewarm at best and the dealer has informed us that there is no fix available at this time. Secondly, we have had trouble with the wireless charger, which does not operate properly. Despite providing video proof to the dealer, they were unable to duplicate the problem. Thirdly, we have found that the TPMS does not work in the same way as other vehicles on the market. When we had a flat tire, the TPMS lamp did not illuminate, and we were told by the dealer that you have to drive at 25MPH for it to register. Finally, the radio screen went black, but the dealer was able to update the firmware and so far it seems to be working well. We would caution against purchasing an INFINITI as our experience with their service after the sale has been disappointing.

  2. Antonio Zulauf 2025-11-12

    Vehicle year: 2014

I purchased this car a year ago and unfortunately, I have had some issues with the music system and navigation, which had to be replaced twice. Additionally, there have been some rattling and creaking noises that have persisted despite multiple visits to the dealership. Although it has been frustrating, I am hopeful that the issue will be resolved soon. I have reached out to consumer affairs for assistance. Thank you for your understanding.

  3. Garrison Littel 2025-11-10

    Vehicle year: 2018

I purchased my QX60 2018, however, within a week, I encountered several issues such as the engine light turning on, the FEB system turning off by itself, and the auto start not functioning for three days. These electrical problems have been persistent and I have had to visit the dealer four times within a month. Despite this, I remain confident that the issues will be resolved soon.

  4. Ford Fisher 2025-11-08

    Vehicle year: 2014

I bought my 2014 QX60 after doing thorough research on mid-sized luxury SUVs. As someone who has always driven a Toyota, owning an Infiniti was a new experience for me. The car worked beautifully for 18 months, but then I started having some start-up issues in July 2015. Several times a week, it would take 3-4 tries to start the vehicle. I thought it might be the battery, so I took it to the dealership. They jump-started my battery, which they said was still good, and suggested that I drive my car more often. A few weeks later, the problem returned. I held off on bringing the car in until September when the car didn't start one morning. Infiniti road service jumped my car, and the dealership agreed to replace my battery. Three days later, my car stalled twice while driving in reverse, and the power steering failed while the vehicle was in drive. I took the car in the next morning, and they checked it and said everything seemed fine. Luckily, while pulling the car back from the service garage, the car stalled for the service technician. At that point, I was given a loaner vehicle. During this visit, they noticed that a wire was loose underneath the car. I believe it was the body control module wire that was loose. For this visit, they really thought they had the problem solved and returned the car to me the following day. Four days later, the car stalled again while driving and did not start on the first try. I returned it to the dealership and got a loaner for the second time. During this time, they replaced the hybrid battery as well as the key remote battery, and they even replaced the new battery just to make sure all batteries were new at the same time. They kept my car for 2 weeks just to be sure it was fixed before returning it to me. Four days later, the car took 3 tries to start, so I took it directly to the dealership and got another loaner vehicle. During this visit, they have been replacing both the hybrid computer and the body control module computer. They have had my vehicle for 3 weeks and it is still not working. Now, they think they will replace the harness. Unfortunately, while the vehicle was at the dealership, it was parallel parked in an unofficial parking spot in an overcrowded lot, and a delivery truck backed into it. As a result, the side bumper needs to be replaced, and the estimate for damages is 4000 K. This has been a frustrating experience for me, especially since this is my first luxury vehicle and it has turned out to be my least reliable car ever. I have started the buyback process with Infiniti, and I want to warn others not to waste their time or money on these cars.

  5. Erick Grady 2025-11-07

    Vehicle year: 2023

I've had this car for just under two weeks and unfortunately, it has been a very disappointing experience. Despite its attractive appearance, driver comfort is the most important feature and unfortunately, this car falls short in that regard. The heated/ventilated seats are not up to par and it's difficult to tell if they're even on. The air conditioning is also not very effective, especially on hot days. The infotainment system can be unreliable and locks up intermittently, which can be frustrating. The steering assist feature is not very good and can be dangerous, especially when trying to take control back from the car. The 17 speaker stereo is also not very impressive. Overall, I regret purchasing this vehicle.

After considering both the 2017 MDX and the 2016 QX60, it is clear that the QX60 is the winner. Infiniti impressed us with the ease of accessing the third row and the ample legroom it provides, which surpasses that of the MDX. The QX60 also offers more practical features for this segment, with packages that make more sense than those of the MDX. For instance, the around view monitor, heated steering wheel, and USB ports in the third row are included in Infiniti's mid-level package, while Acura requires the highest level package for these features. Moreover, the service we received at the Infiniti dealership was superior to that of Acura, which further solidified our decision to choose the QX60. We feel more confident about any future services we may require.

You can expect to receive some unsolicited feedback on the exterior design (which, by the way, everybody seems to love). The overall mileage is about 22 mpg, but the road mileage is up to 26 or more. The power is smooth and makes it feel like you're going slower than you actually are. Additionally, the car boasts incredible safety features.

If you're looking for a spacious, stylish, reliable, and comfortable luxury SUV, the QX60 is definitely worth considering. When we compared it to other options, it was an easy choice. At this price point, no other choice gave us everything we were looking for, and the lease deal on the 2015 model, after negotiation, was very reasonable. While there are some needed improvements, I would still choose this car again. The front seats can be a bit hard for long hauls, and there is a subtle engine vibration that the 2016 model has improved engine mounts to address. However, overall it is a solid car. You can get better mileage by paying attention to the driving modes - sport for around town and climbing, and standard or economy for cruising. The QX60 has great acceleration and handles very well considering its size, with decent steering and braking. It is also very quiet at speed and mostly provides a smooth ride. I had a 2012 FX35 prior, and it was just too stiff and uncomfortable for most driving conditions. The QX60 is a much softer ride!

I'm glad to hear that you've been enjoying your Infiniti QX60 for the past 8 months! It sounds like a great SUV that provides a comfortable and quiet driving experience. I appreciate that you took the time to test drive other SUVs before making your decision. Your likes for the QX60 are impressive, especially the easy-to-use navigation system, comfortable seats, and stylish design. It's also great to hear that the safety features, cameras, and eco mode are working well for you. I understand your neutral stance on the stereo, engine, sunroof, and gas mileage. As for your dislikes, it would be nice to have real roof bars that you could tie rope to, and the navigation settings could be improved. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice with the Infiniti QX60!

We test drove the MDX, Pilot and Highlander but the ride, look and features of the QX60 sold us. As Honda/Acura owners, we currently own a Ridgeline and love it, but decided to venture out and go with the QX60. The MDX didn't feel as roomy and the two screens and the touch features were overkill for us. The third row seating in the QX60 felt roomier too. I really like the 360 degree camera, blind spot warning system, driver seat memory and bluetooth connectivity - incoming phone calls are very clear! The interior combination of leather, wood and brushed metal accents are spot on. It has only been less than a month, so it may be too soon to rate it, but so far, we absolutely have no regrets and simply love it!
