2009 Hyundai Veracruz problems
The Hyundai Veracruz (Korean: 현대 베라크루즈), also known as the Hyundai ix55 in Europe and Russia, is a mid-size crossover that was manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai from 2006 to 2015. The Veracruz was sold in the United States, Canada, South Korea, China, Morocco, South America and the Middle East.
It was also imported to Europe and parts of Asia from 2007 to 2011. The Veracruz was discontinued in other countries, except South Korea. Its name refers to the Mexican state of Veracruz; however, despite being named after the Mexican state, it was never actually sold in Mexico.
History
The official date of unveiling in South Korea was October 12, 2006, and was made available in the United States as a 2007 model. The Veracruz went on sale in March 2007, and is Hyundai's largest crossover SUV.
It replaced the truck based Terracan that was sold worldwide except for North America. The Veracruz is built on a Hyundai Santa Fe platform. The revamped 2011 Veracruz was based on the same platform as the Kia Sorento.
The Veracruz gets its name from a state in Mexico, continuing the Western theme from the small Tucson SUV and mid-size Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. Powering the Veracruz is a 3.8 L 260 hp (190 kW) V6 engine with an Aisin sourced six speed Shiftronic Automatic transmission.
In Europe, it was sold only with 3.0 L CRDI V6 diesel S-Line engine with Variable geometry turbocharger and 240 hp (180 kW). In 2008, the Veracruz was also sold in some European countries as the ix55.

Common 2009 Hyundai Veracruz problems
The Hyundai Veracruz, a mid-size crossover SUV introduced in 2009, is known for its sporty design, spacious interior, and a wide range of features
. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems based on complaints from owners.
- Harsh Shifting and Transmission Slips: Several owners have reported issues with the Veracruz's transmission, including harsh shifting and slipping. This problem can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out transmission components or issues with the vehicle's torque converter.
- Hesitation due to Faulty Oxygen Sensor: Some Veracruz owners have reported issues with hesitation and poor acceleration, often caused by faulty oxygen sensors. These sensors are responsible for monitoring the amount of oxygen in the vehicle's exhaust system, and issues with them can lead to poor engine performance and reduced fuel efficiency.
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Issues: The Veracruz's PCM, which controls various aspects of the vehicle's engine and transmission, has been known to cause issues for some owners. These problems can range from poor engine performance to complete engine failure in some cases.
- Alternator and Battery Drain Issues: A major recall affecting the Hyundai Veracruz and Santa Fe models built between 2007 and 2012 has been linked to oil leaks on the alternator, which can cause the alternator to stop working and the battery to drain. This issue can lead to the vehicle stopping with very little warning, posing a significant safety risk.
- Door Handle Issues: Some Veracruz owners have reported issues with the door handles falling off, particularly on the 2011 model year. This problem can be caused by a variety of factors, including wear and tear or issues with the handle's mounting hardware.
- Electrical Issues: Electrical problems, including issues with the vehicle's electrical system, have been reported by some Veracruz owners. These problems can range from minor issues, such as dashboard warning lights coming on for no reason, to more serious issues, such as complete electrical system failure.
In summary, the Hyundai Veracruz has several common problems, including engine noise, transmission issues, oxygen sensor problems, PCM issues, alternator and battery drain issues, door handle problems, and electrical issues. While the Veracruz is known for its sporty design and spacious interior, these common problems can lead to significant repair costs and safety risks for owners.

- VIN: km8nu73c49u
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I have received three recall letters form Hyundai VeraCruz regarding an interim recall in January 2021, March 2021 and May 2021. I had the vehicle in for mechanical repairs to the rear brake system in Late February 2021 and was informed there was several leaks noted at the time. Within the next few weeks, I noted that when accelerating onto the highway that the battery light, security light and seatbelt light would flash for about 10 seconds but then go off. . I waited to hear on a repair solution from Hyundai but only received another interim letter in March. In the end of April, I had spoken to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle ,Auto Warehouse of Brighton, and was told Hyundai would have to repair due to the recall. I have contacted three Hyundai service centers and have been told that they are unable to repair under the recall as there has not been a remedy for the recall. On Sunday, May 30, the vehicle was making an odd noise and I asked a mechanic friend to look at it. While inspecting, he stated the bearings in the alternator seized. The vehicle is now not functional, Hyundai Customer Care cannot provide a possible date for the recall to be remedied. This recall has been going on now since November 2020 and is unresolved. I am without a vehicle due to this and have not been provided any possible timeline when the issue may be resolved.

TIRES,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-10-20
- VIN: KM8NU13C09U
- Components: TIRES,WHEELS
- Summary: TIRE VALVE W/TMPS FAILS. THIS IS A SIMPLE AND VERY STANDARD BUT CRITICAL COMPONENT TO MAINTAINING TIRE AIR PRESSURE. THE VALVE BROKE OFF IN THE SIMPLE ACT OF REMOVING THE CAP TO ADD AIR. BREAK WAS THE END OF THE VALVE STEM AND PREVENT AIRING THE TIRE. THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT INSPECTED ALL WHEELS AND FOUND TWO MORE CAPS WHICH THEY REFUSED TO TRY TO LOOSEN SINCE THEY WERE OUT OF VALVES TO REPLACE. THIS SERVICE DEPARTMENT SEEMED TO RECOGNIZE THEIR EFFORT WOULD LIKELY HAVE SAME RESULT. THEY SEEMED TO KNOW THIS IS A PROBLEM. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THIS TO BE A COMMON EXPERIENCE. THE ABILITY TO PRESSURIZE THE TIRE IS A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE TASK WHICH MUST HAVE ROBUST TIRE VALVE, SINCE TIRE PRESSURE IS CRITICAL SAFETY REQUIREMENT. THE TYPICAL USER IS VERY USE TO REMOVING A TIRE VALVE CAP AND NOT HAVE A PROBLEM. THE VALVE DESIGN BEING USED BY HYUNDAI APPEARS TO BE COMMON DESIGN FOR MANY MODELS/YEARS. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH A DESIGN FOR A CRITICAL SAFETY COMPONENT. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN. *TR
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-08-26
- VIN: KM8NU73C09U
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING AT 70 THE CAR JERKED, COMPLETELY STOPPED ACCELERATING. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. LUCKILY WE WERE NEAR AN EXIT, WE WERE NOT REAR ENDED BY A TRUCK AND WERE ABLE SHIFT LANES AND TO ROLL OFF AND PUT OUR HAZARD LIGHTS ON. AFTER CHECKING THE ENGINE, A LOCAL SERVICE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THERE WAS AN ERROR CODE RELATED TO THE THROTTLE CONTROL. ON RESTARTING THE CAR THE ENGINE LIGHTS RESET AND THE CAR RAN NORMALLY. RETURNING HOME WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO HYUNDAI. WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AS THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES IN MEMORY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THE THROTTLE SENSOR. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL AN ERROR WAS RECORDED IN THE MEMORY OF THE COMPUTER BECAUSE HYUNDAI USA WOULD NOT COVER ANYTHING UNDER WARRANTY. WHEN I ASKED IF IT WAS LIKELY TO OCCUR AGAIN, I WAS TOLD IT MOST LIKELY WOULD HAPPEN SOON AND TOO BE CAREFUL. A MONTH LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN TRAVELING AT ABOUT 65 MILE PER HOUR. THIS TIME THERE WAS NO SHOULDER BUT I WAS ABLE TO PARTIALLY PULL OFF THE ROAD AND PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AS CARS DROVE BY AND AVOIDED HITTING MINE. THIS SAME SITUATION OCCURRED FOUR (4) MORE TIMES AS I WAS ABLE TO GET MY CAR FINALLY BACK HOME TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER TO SERVICE THE CAR. THE HYUNDAI DEALER REPLACED BOTH THE THROTTLE SENSOR AND THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY. HAVING RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM WITH ACCELERATION, I HAVE LEARNED THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SIMILAR AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. AFTER SPEAKING WITH OTHER HYUNDAI SERVICE TECHNICIANS I WAS TOLD OFF THE RECORD THAT THIS WAS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM. AS THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR IS LESS THAN $29 I AM NOT SURE WHY HYUNDAI DID NOT ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM WHEN I FIRST BROUGHT THE CAR OR AS A RECALL AS THE CONSEQUENCES COULD BE MUCH MORE SERIOUS. *KB
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-08-16
- VIN: KM8NU13C79U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING, IT FELT LIKE A JERK OR SHIFT IN THE ENGINE TWO TIMES AND THEN THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING. I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK. NOT FIVE MINUTES EARLIER I HAD BEEN DRIVING 65 MILES AN HOUR ON INTERSTATE 35 - AN EXTREMELY BUSY AND FAST-MOVING HIGHWAY. IF THE PROBLEM HAD HAPPENED THEN, I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE RESULT. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AND THAT THIS WAS A "COMMON PROBLEM." THE SENSOR IS BEING REPLACED AS I TYPE. I LOOKED ONLINE ON EDMUNDS CAR SPACE AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER HYUNDAI OWNERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM AS FAR BACK AS 2007 (PROBABLY EVEN BEFORE). THIS IS A LIFE ENDANGERING PROBLEM THAT HYUNDAI IS APPARENTLY IGNORING UNTIL OWNERS BRING IN THEIR VEHICLES. *TR
2009 Hyundai Veracruz recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2009 Hyundai Veracruz.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OIL/LUBRICATION:SEALS/GASKETS
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2007-2012 Veracruz vehicles that were previously recalled under recall number 14V-415. Oil may leak from the front cylinder bank cover gasket, potentially dripping onto the alternator and causing the charging system to become inoperative.
- Consequence: An inoperative charging system can result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the valve cover gasket and repair it as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 7, 2021. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 197.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2007-2012 Veracruz vehicles manufactured from December 26, 2006, through July 24, 2012. The affected vehicles may experience an oil leak from the front cylinder bank valve cover gasket. If there is a sufficient amount of oil dropped onto the alternator, the alternator will be damaged causing the charging system to become inoperative.
- Consequence: If the alternator is damaged, the charging system warning lamp in the instrument cluster will illuminate, and the engine will lose power and the vehicle will eventually stop operating while being driven. An unexpected failure of motive power while driving increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect/repair or replace the alternator and the front valve cover gasket, free of charge. Hyundai sent out an interim letter to owners on September 3, 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 121.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

I spotted the VC when I went to look at the Muranos next door. I was amazed by the build and material quality when I got in it. The VC is as luxurious as my Lincoln Towncar, and even quieter. It's the most SUV for the money, hands down. Although it's not a full-sized SUV, it can seat 7 people. However, it could be longer to provide more space behind row 3. I think the GLS with premium package should have a power passenger seat and auto AC, but unfortunately, it doesn't. The VC has no maintenance issues whatsoever, and the Shiftronic transmission is great on hills. I do wish it had more power (260 hp) for 19 mpg combined, especially since Ford makes a V6 with 355 hp. It's worth noting that Europe has it in diesel, but the US does not.

Driving the car was enjoyable at first, with its comfortable, quiet, and stylish design. However, we experienced some issues with recalls during the two years we owned it, with four recalls in total. The final incident that prompted us to trade it in was when it would not drive faster than 5 miles per hour, but fortunately, the issue was fixed for free. We ultimately decided to trade it in for a Toyota Venza. While we appreciate Hyundai's guarantee of 200,000 miles, we have decided not to purchase another Hyundai in the future.

Congratulations on your new purchase! Your 2008 Hyundai Veracruz Limited FWD sounds like an excellent choice. It's great to hear that it comes equipped with so many features, including a third row seat that can comfortably fit two adults. The fit and finish of both the exterior and interior sound impressive, and it's wonderful that it's so quiet at highway speeds. The six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode and all the convenient features like power liftgate, leather heated seats, heated side mirrors, and sunroof make it a great choice for anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your vehicle! It sounds like you've had experience with a few different brands, but have found that this one really stands out. The interior ergonomics seem to be a particular highlight, which is great to hear. It's also good to know that you have plenty of room for your daily commutes, even with a larger family. I can imagine that longer trips might require a bit more storage space, but it's great that you have the luggage rack on top to help out. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

My wife and I really appreciate the comfortable seats that are easy to adjust. The spacious interior and well-designed layout make for a great driving experience. The build quality and materials are on par with the Ford Edge and Saturn Outlook, and the A/C works really well. The ride is fairly smooth and the interior is quiet, making for a relaxing drive. However, we were disappointed to see that the gas mileage was only 13-14 miles per gallon on average, especially in the city. We also had some concerns about the reliability and warranty coverage, and unfortunately had some negative experiences with the dealers. Despite these issues, we still think it's a great car overall.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my new car. I decided to trade in my Santa Fe for this one because Hyundai gave me the highest trade in value. While the exterior is just okay, the interior is great! The soft touch material and good looking leather really caught my eye. It drives quietly and the Infinity radio is decent. However, after about a month, I noticed that the leather started to fade and it began to pick up road noise. I also noticed some rattling here and there. The most serious issue I had was with the transmission. I had heard great things about the Aisian transmission, but unfortunately, my transmission had trouble shifting from 3rd to 4th gear and rumbled quite a bit. I took it back to the dealership, but they told me that there was nothing wrong. They also broke their promise about a loaner car, which was disappointing. Overall, I have some regrets about my purchase, but I hope this information helps you make an informed decision. Let me know if you have any questions!

During the first week of owning it, I had to have the battery replaced. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the car recently. The other day, when I put it in reverse, it gave a hard jolt and later on, when I pressed the gas pedal down, it would only go 5 miles an hour. I was quite worried and called road service. However, when they arrived, the car was miraculously back to normal. The next day, it wouldn't start at all. As a first-time Hyundai owner, I was quite discouraged as I have always owned Toyotas and never had any problems with them. However, I do have a 100,000 mile warranty and I hope that whatever the problem is, they find it, fix it and I have no more problems. I have always relied on my cars and it's important to me that they are reliable.

I traded in my Tucson for the Veracruz and have been happy with the size and third-row seats. However, I have been a bit disappointed with the power train. It can be difficult to get moving from a stop, which can be problematic in sticky situations. Additionally, the transmission seems to get confused about when to shift, and the engine can easily overpower the transmission before it shifts. It's better to use the manual shift. The fuel economy is not bad, but it could be a bit better. I have had a few quality control issues, such as the car being sold with a bad tire and/or rim, the rear quarter filling with water from the rear AC unit, and both under-mirror lights popping out. Overall, I hope my experience can help others make an informed decision.

Hyundai cars are not reliable. I had a bad experience with mine and had to take it to the shop frequently. However, I was able to make the best of the situation and even made lemonade with it!
