2011 Hyundai Veracruz problems
The Hyundai Veracruz (Korean: 현대 베라크루즈), also known as the Hyundai ix55 in Europe and Russia, is a mid-size crossover that was manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai from 2006 to 2015. The Veracruz was sold in the United States, Canada, South Korea, China, Morocco, South America and the Middle East.
It was also imported to Europe and parts of Asia from 2007 to 2011. The Veracruz was discontinued in other countries, except South Korea. Its name refers to the Mexican state of Veracruz; however, despite being named after the Mexican state, it was never actually sold in Mexico.
History
The official date of unveiling in South Korea was October 12, 2006, and was made available in the United States as a 2007 model. The Veracruz went on sale in March 2007, and is Hyundai's largest crossover SUV.
It replaced the truck based Terracan that was sold worldwide except for North America. The Veracruz is built on a Hyundai Santa Fe platform. The revamped 2011 Veracruz was based on the same platform as the Kia Sorento.
The Veracruz gets its name from a state in Mexico, continuing the Western theme from the small Tucson SUV and mid-size Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. Powering the Veracruz is a 3.8 L 260 hp (190 kW) V6 engine with an Aisin sourced six speed Shiftronic Automatic transmission.
In Europe, it was sold only with 3.0 L CRDI V6 diesel S-Line engine with Variable geometry turbocharger and 240 hp (180 kW). In 2008, the Veracruz was also sold in some European countries as the ix55.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-24
- VIN: KM8NU4CC6BU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Tired of engine and electrical failures. As recently as 7/11/2023, I brought my vehicle, 2011 Veracruz Limited FWD suv, to the Brandon (FL) Hyundai delaer for a supposed recall repair. I brought in the car, and picked it up the following day, and was assured that the recall (due to "leaky head gaskets") was taken care as well as the CHECK ENGINE (CE) light - the alternator was NOT replaced (as I had replaced it on 6/28/23 [$241.86 + tax]) with the excuse "it had passed all tests". A couple of days later, the CE light came back. I brought in the car again 7/24/23 and was told upon pick up THAT SAME DAY, that the engine "had a connector loose". Back on the road again, on 7/27/23 the CE light came up again. I decided to check the car myself and noticed: #1. NO (recall related) WORK had been done!!; #2. I decided to see what the CE light meant (P0420) so I removed the Bank 1 Catalytic converter and was astounded at the enormous amount to oil leaking and covering every nook and crany of the front engine - pictures included!! I purchased a new exhaust manifold gasket ($23.30 + tax) and throttle body spray cleaner ($38.43 + tax) to repair and take it back to the dealer for a thorough check up - keeping my fingers crossed. This has been the latest expenses in a litany of expenses (tools, parts, chemicals, related accesories), time off, trips to the dealer and what not in the history of this suv since I purchased back in 8/2010. Hyndai has refussed to pay a penny for all my expenses or repairs all the way to te point of charging for a recall repair NEVER DONE! BTW, I have had the alternator replaced, by myself and by the same dealer, four (4) times!!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-17
- VIN: KM8NUDCC1BU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: The car would not start so we had it towed to a local repair shop. (The closest Hyundai dealer is located 91 miles (182 round trip). The local shop diagnostics indicated an oil leak in the valve cover gasket which dripped onto the alternator and the drive belt. The obvious way to fix the problem was to replace the valve cover gasket, the alternator and the drive belt. The parts were obtained from an online parts distributor. The diagnostic work was done by the shop and the labor was performed by a well known Master Mechanic with over 25 years of experience and is recognized by the ASE. I filed several claims with Hyundai who keep coming up with reasons why they can't pay the claim for a total $600.00 out of pocket cost. The car was fixed 7/9/2021 and has run great since then with no leakage! I have filed claims several times and each time they request more documentation be furnished. The latest rejection is dated 5/16/2023 and Hyundai has assigned a Consumer Case #21314437.

A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

Negative 2011 Hyundai Veracruz car reviews
Positive 2011 Hyundai Veracruz car reviews
-
We chose the Veracruz for its 7 passenger seating and to replace our minivan. It has truly given us the best of both worlds. While we mostly use it as a 5 passenger vehicle with the back seats folded down, it's great to have the option to load up the car with kids when we need to. The ride is incredibly smooth and quiet, and the car handles well. It's extremely comfortable for 5 passengers, although legroom can be a bit tight for 7 - but that's to be expected. Overall, I highly recommend this vehicle and am so glad we made the purchase.

You're in for a treat! I've owned over a dozen cars in my driving life, including Lexus, Toyotas, Porsche, Corvette, Mercedes, Chevys, and Fords too. But let me tell you, this Hyundai Veracruz is something else. It's equal or even better than any of them! The fit and finish, overall performance, comfort, and amenities are all superb. I did my research and shopped around for Highlander, Venza, CX-9, Traverse (GMC and Buick also), and others, but none of them matched the performance, options, and especially the price of this car. You simply can't beat it for the money. And the options are just fantastic - power lift gate, keyless entry/start, sunroof and rack, automatic A/C everywhere, dynamite sound, power trim and tilt, seat memory, Michelins, five spoke wheels, and more. This car is a real winner!

I recently purchased the Vera Cruz after test driving several other vehicles. Initially, I was set on getting a Toyota 4-Runner or Highlander Limited, and I didn't even consider trying a Hyundai since I had never owned one before. However, I realized that I would be missing out if I didn't at least take a look. I'm so glad I did because the Vera Cruz is the clear winner! The number of options you get for the price is amazing, and the performance and comfort are top-notch. It even has a cooling center console! I highly recommend giving it a chance. It's definitely worth your time and money. Plus, you get the best warranty, options, and performance, all while saving thousands!

We've had the Veracruz for a month now and have taken it to several soccer tournaments. The ride is comfortable, and the interior space and amenities in our Limited model make for a pleasant experience. The value for money in this vehicle is excellent, especially when compared to its competitors. We've driven five of them and also own a Highlander Limited, but the Veracruz is just as well-appointed and quality-manufactured, with the added bonus of a better warranty. We've found that the mpg is slightly better than advertised, with 24-25 on the highway and 18-19 in town.

The display has black letters on a blue background that may be difficult to see from the driver's seat, especially if the sun is shining directly on the panel.

The 2011 Veracruz limited that I purchased unfortunately had several issues, including a loud grinding and knocking sound from the brakes, which posed a safety hazard. Despite taking the car back to Hyundai five times to address the issue, the problem persisted and was not resolved. While I own another Veracruz and have driven others without experiencing this issue, the factory rep sent by Hyundai refused to take a closer look and dismissed the problem as normal. Regrettably, I had to part ways with the car to avoid any potential accidents due to brake failure. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend this car.

Good build quality. Not bad looking. Nice interior space. Great third row seat - adult size. Fuel economy is just as advertised. Although the seats are a little too firm, the ride is smooth. However, the shifts are too early in first, so there is no acceleration off the mark without flooring it. Additionally, the blue digital display is not easy to view and the tailgate release on the key fob is almost useless. Overall, it's a decent car with some minor drawbacks.

11/5/17: I recently sold my car and have decided to replace it with a Honda CRV.5/3/17: Since my previous review, I have had a few issues with my previous vehicle which had 68,000 miles on it. I had to discuss two oil leaks on two different occasions and last month the engine seized up and the dealer found metal shavings in the oil pan. I had to replace the entire engine which cost over $10,000. Although I bought my Veracruz as a 2-year-old vehicle with 20,000 miles on it, I found that there were a few things about the vehicle that will keep me from buying another Hyundai. However, I have to say that I haven't needed to have the car into the shop very often. First, the car was modeled after a Lexus RX, meaning Hyundai used the RX as the standard for the product. A few years into ownership, I received a recall from Hyundai that there was an oil leak on my car and that it had to be repaired. Although having an oil leak on a car at less than 50,000 miles is unheard of, the dealership replaced the defective gasket with the same gasket system, which proceeded to leak. Hyundai has not redesigned the defective part yet. The new gasket seems to have fixed the problem. Also, the driver seat is wearing very fast and there is a clanking noise when I put the car in reverse. I'm going to go back to my Japanese imports. While they are not perfect, I haven't experienced problems like this in 25 years of ownership of Toyotas and Hondas.

The passenger and back seat experience can be uncomfortable due to feeling every bump and pothole magnified. Additionally, the fuel economy may not meet the advertised standards.
