Hyundai Veracruz problems
The Hyundai Veracruz (Korean: 현대 베라크루즈), also known as the Hyundai ix55 in Europe and Russia, is a mid-size crossover that was manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai from 2006 to 2015. The Veracruz was sold in the United States, Canada, South Korea, China, Morocco, South America and the Middle East.
It was also imported to Europe and parts of Asia from 2007 to 2011. The Veracruz was discontinued in other countries, except South Korea. Its name refers to the Mexican state of Veracruz; however, despite being named after the Mexican state, it was never actually sold in Mexico.
History
The official date of unveiling in South Korea was October 12, 2006, and was made available in the United States as a 2007 model. The Veracruz went on sale in March 2007, and is Hyundai's largest crossover SUV.
It replaced the truck based Terracan that was sold worldwide except for North America. The Veracruz is built on a Hyundai Santa Fe platform. The revamped 2011 Veracruz was based on the same platform as the Kia Sorento.
The Veracruz gets its name from a state in Mexico, continuing the Western theme from the small Tucson SUV and mid-size Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. Powering the Veracruz is a 3.8 L 260 hp (190 kW) V6 engine with an Aisin sourced six speed Shiftronic Automatic transmission.
In Europe, it was sold only with 3.0 L CRDI V6 diesel S-Line engine with Variable geometry turbocharger and 240 hp (180 kW). In 2008, the Veracruz was also sold in some European countries as the ix55.

Common Hyundai Veracruz problems
The Hyundai Veracruz, a midsize crossover SUV, has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners.
One of the most common issues with the suspension of the Veracruz is the premature failure of the front struts. This problem can cause noise, vibration, and poor handling, making for an uncomfortable driving experience.
For the 2007-2009 Veracruz models, engine stall or failure to start is a common issue. This problem can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty fuel pump, a bad ignition coil, or a clogged fuel filter. In some cases, the engine may simply fail to start, while in others it may stall while driving, which can be a serious safety concern. To address this issue, owners of 2007-2009 Veracruz models should have their vehicles inspected by a certified mechanic or dealership.
Electrical problems are also common in the 2010-2012 Hyundai Veracruz models. These problems can range from issues with the electrical system, such as malfunctioning power windows or locks, to issues with the engine's electrical components, such as a faulty alternator. One common electrical issue reported in the Veracruz is related to the power windows and locks. Some owners have reported that the windows may not function properly, or the locks may fail to engage or disengage. These issues may be caused by a malfunctioning power window motor, faulty wiring, or a damaged switch.
Another common electrical issue reported by Veracruz owners is related to the alternator. The alternator is responsible for providing power to the vehicle's electrical system and charging the battery. When the alternator fails, it can cause a variety of problems, including a dead battery, flickering headlights, and issues with the vehicle's electronic systems. To diagnose and repair electrical problems in a 2010-2012 Veracruz, it's recommended to consult a certified mechanic or dealership.
It's worth noting that while these issues were more commonly reported in specific model years, they can potentially occur in other model years as well. Therefore, it's important for Veracruz owners to stay informed and take preventative measures to keep their vehicles running smoothly. If you experience any issues with your vehicle, it's always best to consult a certified mechanic or dealership for proper diagnosis and repair.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2007-2012 Veracruz vehicles that were previously recalled under recall number 14V-415. Oil may leak from the front cylinder bank cover gasket, potentially dripping onto the alternator and causing the charging system to become inoperative.

Hyundai Veracruz 2010
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-16
- Date Complaint: 2024-05-07
- VIN: KM8NUDCC9AU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Driving at approximately 35 mph Check Engine Light came on P0331 Knock Sensor - light was cleared drove 14 miles CEL was back on. Called Hyundai about the code & knock sensor in reference to all the Hyundai models being recalled for the same problem and a warranty extension being granted. Hyundai advised me to take it to a local dealer for diagnosis and pay the fee of course. I did just that. The dealer clear the codes and sent me home. CEL was on again. Car was back at dealer confirmed knock sensor replacement needed. I inquired about extension of warranty on my car. I was told it's not on the list. Called Hyundai back advised of the confirmation of diagnosis just to be informed that my car isn't covered under the extension warranty. We established that already. I asked to be escalated & was given a supervisor who suggested while the problem is being investigated I could ask the dealer to request Goodwill from Hyundai. Denied. Called Hyundai to follow up on my claim, I was advised claim closed my car isn't covered under the extension warranty for the same problem as other models and out of original warranty. Which I already knew. I was trying to find out if my car should be added to the list covered. I was told once the claim is closed it is closed. Hyundai needs to protect the owners of all Hyundai vehicles not just the popular ones. Since they closed my claim that fast. I would love an explanation as to why I was advised to take it to the dealer pay the fee and 25x the price for repair vs an independent shop. This is the 3rd time I've been without my car while it sits at the dealer waiting on parts. I'm left with a large bill, an unsafe engine and no vehicle. Hyundai needs to be held accountable. We shouldn't fear for our safety while driving. Bought in 2011 & it currently has 106,350 miles. Still within the 15 year, 150,000 mile warranty extended to other Hyundai owners whether original or not. I'm the original owner. My vehicle needs to be safe to drive.

- VIN: KM8NU73C28U
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: ABS Anti-Lock Brake System Failure (ABS Control Unit) As seen in NHTSA CAMPAIGN [XXX], for newer year models, The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving. This recall should also include 2008-2010 Hyundai Veracruz's as the ABS Module is the same part number and can leak brake fluid. This can lead to serious injury or death as the car may not function as intended or catch on fire. I noticed a strong burning smell similar to burning toast when the car was dropped off at the shop. My Mechanics noticed my ABS Control Unit had liquid coming out of the poorly sealed module, and told me to report this to the NTSHA. The unit had to be replaced for about $3800. The first symptom is the ESC Light flashing while driving. Others include the AWD Light, Brake Light, ABS Light, and, Traction Control Lights. On many forums like the link shown below other people have experienced this issue on the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz as well. This indicate that the recall should be pushed to ALL Veracruz models. Hyundai should be responsible for the safety of all Veracruz owners just not a few. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I spotted the VC when I went to look at the Muranos next door. I was amazed by the build and material quality when I got in it. The VC is as luxurious as my Lincoln Towncar, and even quieter. It's the most SUV for the money, hands down. Although it's not a full-sized SUV, it can seat 7 people. However, it could be longer to provide more space behind row 3. I think the GLS with premium package should have a power passenger seat and auto AC, but unfortunately, it doesn't. The VC has no maintenance issues whatsoever, and the Shiftronic transmission is great on hills. I do wish it had more power (260 hp) for 19 mpg combined, especially since Ford makes a V6 with 355 hp. It's worth noting that Europe has it in diesel, but the US does not.

Driving the car was enjoyable at first, with its comfortable, quiet, and stylish design. However, we experienced some issues with recalls during the two years we owned it, with four recalls in total. The final incident that prompted us to trade it in was when it would not drive faster than 5 miles per hour, but fortunately, the issue was fixed for free. We ultimately decided to trade it in for a Toyota Venza. While we appreciate Hyundai's guarantee of 200,000 miles, we have decided not to purchase another Hyundai in the future.

When I was searching for an SUV, I went shopping like most consumers do. To be honest, I initially went to Volvo and liked the SUV, but it didn't have the space I needed. During the process, my daughter reminded me that I am a loyal Hyundai customer and suggested I check them out. I visited Rick Case Hyundai on a chilly day, and the salesman called me from outside, inviting me to come in and get warm while telling him what I was looking for. That evening, I drove away in my Hyundai Veracruz, and they delivered everything they promised. I absolutely adore my Hyundai, and I am grateful to Rick Case for their excellent service.

Just purchased this vehicle. It's great! It seems to be extremely well built, rides like a dream, has a classy interior, and looks fantastic. My wife absolutely loves it. We replaced our 2007 Santa Fe Limited with this unit, and we're so glad we did. Hyundai has really made huge inroads into the Luxury SUV field.

We chose the Veracruz for its 7 passenger seating and to replace our minivan. It has truly given us the best of both worlds. While we mostly use it as a 5 passenger vehicle with the back seats folded down, it's great to have the option to load up the car with kids when we need to. The ride is incredibly smooth and quiet, and the car handles well. It's extremely comfortable for 5 passengers, although legroom can be a bit tight for 7 - but that's to be expected. Overall, I highly recommend this vehicle and am so glad we made the purchase.

My wife and I really appreciate the comfortable seats that are easy to adjust. The spacious interior and well-designed layout make for a great driving experience. The build quality and materials are on par with the Ford Edge and Saturn Outlook, and the A/C works really well. The ride is fairly smooth and the interior is quiet, making for a relaxing drive. However, we were disappointed to see that the gas mileage was only 13-14 miles per gallon on average, especially in the city. We also had some concerns about the reliability and warranty coverage, and unfortunately had some negative experiences with the dealers. Despite these issues, we still think it's a great car overall.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my new car. I decided to trade in my Santa Fe for this one because Hyundai gave me the highest trade in value. While the exterior is just okay, the interior is great! The soft touch material and good looking leather really caught my eye. It drives quietly and the Infinity radio is decent. However, after about a month, I noticed that the leather started to fade and it began to pick up road noise. I also noticed some rattling here and there. The most serious issue I had was with the transmission. I had heard great things about the Aisian transmission, but unfortunately, my transmission had trouble shifting from 3rd to 4th gear and rumbled quite a bit. I took it back to the dealership, but they told me that there was nothing wrong. They also broke their promise about a loaner car, which was disappointing. Overall, I have some regrets about my purchase, but I hope this information helps you make an informed decision. Let me know if you have any questions!

11/5/17: I recently sold my car and have decided to replace it with a Honda CRV.5/3/17: Since my previous review, I have had a few issues with my previous vehicle which had 68,000 miles on it. I had to discuss two oil leaks on two different occasions and last month the engine seized up and the dealer found metal shavings in the oil pan. I had to replace the entire engine which cost over $10,000. Although I bought my Veracruz as a 2-year-old vehicle with 20,000 miles on it, I found that there were a few things about the vehicle that will keep me from buying another Hyundai. However, I have to say that I haven't needed to have the car into the shop very often. First, the car was modeled after a Lexus RX, meaning Hyundai used the RX as the standard for the product. A few years into ownership, I received a recall from Hyundai that there was an oil leak on my car and that it had to be repaired. Although having an oil leak on a car at less than 50,000 miles is unheard of, the dealership replaced the defective gasket with the same gasket system, which proceeded to leak. Hyundai has not redesigned the defective part yet. The new gasket seems to have fixed the problem. Also, the driver seat is wearing very fast and there is a clanking noise when I put the car in reverse. I'm going to go back to my Japanese imports. While they are not perfect, I haven't experienced problems like this in 25 years of ownership of Toyotas and Hondas.

Good build quality. Not bad looking. Nice interior space. Great third row seat - adult size. Fuel economy is just as advertised. Although the seats are a little too firm, the ride is smooth. However, the shifts are too early in first, so there is no acceleration off the mark without flooring it. Additionally, the blue digital display is not easy to view and the tailgate release on the key fob is almost useless. Overall, it's a decent car with some minor drawbacks.

During the first week of owning it, I had to have the battery replaced. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the car recently. The other day, when I put it in reverse, it gave a hard jolt and later on, when I pressed the gas pedal down, it would only go 5 miles an hour. I was quite worried and called road service. However, when they arrived, the car was miraculously back to normal. The next day, it wouldn't start at all. As a first-time Hyundai owner, I was quite discouraged as I have always owned Toyotas and never had any problems with them. However, I do have a 100,000 mile warranty and I hope that whatever the problem is, they find it, fix it and I have no more problems. I have always relied on my cars and it's important to me that they are reliable.
