The Buick Verano (Chinese: 威朗) is a compact car manufactured by SAIC-GM for the GM's Buick brand since 2010. It debuted at the North American International Auto Show on January 10, 2011, during a preview of Buick's then upcoming 2012 model. It is the first compact marketed by Buick in the United States since the 1998 Buick Skylark. Verano is Spanish for summer.
The Verano, the Buick Excelle GT, which was developed for the Chinese market, and the Opel Astra/Vauxhall Astra sedan share General Motors' Delta II platform with the Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Orlando, and Opel/Vauxhall Zafira Tourer. In the US, it was manufactured by General Motors from 2012 to 2017.
First generation (2011)
Jim Federico, Executive Director and Vehicle Chief Engineer for Verano, led the vehicle development team and David Lyon, Buick design director, styled the exterior.
The Verano is essentially a North American-market version of the Chinese-market compact Buick Excelle GT. The Verano's unibody construction uses galvanized steel for its front fenders, hood, roof and door panels and thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) bumper covers. It incorporates acoustical laminated glass, triple door seals, a five-layer interior roof liner, sound absorbing mats, recycled denim insulation and specially manufactured 18-inch forged alloy wheels, which minimize road noise. Buick's VentiPorts reappeared at the Verano's introduction, a styling feature unique to Buick dating back to 1949.
The standard powertrain is a 2.4 L Ecotec direct-injected DOHC I4 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4 L engine is rated 180 horsepower (130 kW; 180 PS) at 6,700 rpm and 171 lb⋅ft (232 N⋅m; 24 kg⋅m) of torque at 4,900 rpm. The engine is flex-fuel capable, meaning it can use either gasoline, or E85 ethanol (2012–13) • 2.4L, or any combination of the two fuels. EPA fuel economy estimates are 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp) city and 32 mpg‑US (7.4 L/100 km; 38 mpg‑imp) highway for gasoline. A 2012 on-road mixed highway-city review by the website MPGOMATIC showed an average 26.5 mpg‑US (8.9 L/100 km; 31.8 mpg‑imp) on E85, and 29 mpg‑US (8.1 L/100 km; 35 mpg‑imp) for gasoline.
A 2.0 L turbocharged version became available in late 2012, for the 2013 model year, as did a 6-speed manual transmission. The 2.0 L turbo engine is rated at 250 horsepower (186 kW; 253 PS) and 260 lb⋅ft (353 N⋅m; 36 kg⋅m) of torque. GM estimated acceleration from 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) is 6.2 seconds, matching the number posted by the Buick Regal GS.
For 2016, the Verano added a new Sport Touring Edition which included unique 18″ aluminum black pocket wheels and a rear lip spoiler.
The Verano was phased out from the US market after the 2017 model year. The second generation Verano is sold exclusively in China, leaving Buick without an entry-level sedan in the US market.

- Summary: My 2014 Buick Verano, that I have owned for several years now, is consuming oil at an alarming rate. The problem is that the manufacturer put a PCV valve into the engines intake manifold that gets clogged and produces too much pressure. With the pressure being so high, it forces oil into the air intake breather box and up through the throttle body and gets burnt off. If the oil pressure gets too high, the additional risk is that the rear main seal may get blown. Because of this, I have to continuously check for proper engine oil level, and even while doing that often (weekly), there are times that I find the car needing more than 2 quarts of oil to be put into the engine regardless of how long it has been between oil changes. Additionally, there has never been an oil light or any indicator light showing any trouble at all. GM knows there are problems with these 2.4l engines because they sent letters to some owners of 2012 GMC Terrains with the same problems. As there are still many Buick Veranos and other vehicles on the road sharing the same engine, I believe that GM should still be held responsible for repairing a known problem. I have not taken this to the dealer for this problem, as I have read many other accounts of people being charged diagnosis fees with $5000 plus repair bills for this issue.

A Google search revealed the location of blind spot radar module. Inspected right rear module (located in bumper) and found corrosion. Difficult to remove module because of swollen internals. Pried open module after removal to expose corrosion damage to radar cells. The module mount location is openly exposed to road grime and salt. This infiltrated the module and ruined it because the module cover (white panel) is too thinly sealed.

- Summary: Vehicle started flashing multiple indicators on the dashboard, including those related to the charging system. Radio screen went off and then the power steering lost electrical boost while turning the steering wheel. Radio screen came back on its own but then it started cycling among its options (AM, FM, Bluetooth, etc) until settling in FM radio. Second occurrence was similar, although with different manifestations with the dashboard indicators although most concerning behavior dealt with the steering loosing boost almost causing an accident. Have reconnected the battery (changed about 4 months ago, currently showing 12.38V) and retighten the connections to the poles. Retightened the cables going to ground (they were NOT loose).

- Summary: All occurrences happened on city streets and all during the daytime. First time this occurred was on 6/15/2022 with 148,467 miles. It went to the dealer. Lots of low voltage and lots of comm codes stored in a lot of modules. All were cleared out. They could not replicate the problem. Then it occurred again on 7/23, 7/24 and 7/25. Then on 7/26/2022 (twice) with 151,261 miles and again at 151,264 miles. Then 08/01/2022 at 151,475 miles four to five times. And so it goes. The car suddenly lurches like it’s downshifting. If you were to keep driving the car, the transmission does not shift. The faster you go the higher the tachometer goes. When I took it to the dealer, I had to use the highway. Could not go above 60mph. The tach reading was too high. All four door locks start unlocking and locking and they keep doing this till you shut the car off. Vehicle chimes start going off. A “Service Power Steering” message appears on the center message board. A “Service Stabili Trak” message appears on the center message board. A “Service Parking Assist” message appears on the center message board. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp icon is on. The Brake System Warning light is on. After pulling to the side of the road and you put the car in reverse, there is no backup camera picture. After shutting the car off and then restarting it, all is well until it happens again. Since the first occurrence, I’ve also noticed when using the remote control FOB, the car starts then shuts off within three seconds. But it does not do this every time.

- Summary: A "Service Side Detection Error" is causing multiple electrical issues in the front dash: prevent defrost and heat from working in the middle of a Vermont winter. This prevents me from seeing where I am going. This has also caused erratic problems with any function/feature on my electric panel, and erratic errors that come and go. There is a VERY HIGH NUMBER of Buick drivers who have had this error with the SAME EXACT issues. The sensors in the back wheel wells are not water proof. They get corroded. Additionally, after the sensors are replace, Buick requires the computer be reprogrammed only through them. non-GM service centers literally cannot reprogram them. I plan to get on each forum to request all drivers with this error file reports with NHTSA. I don't feel enough drivers know that they should/could do this and just end up paying this repair because they are just barely out of warranty, or GM says it is not covered. I also home to start a class-action lawsuit as electric panel issues involving our heating/cooling system fans and defrost, and other random electric problems related to this are vital to a drivers safety.

- Summary: February 2021 Electronic parking brake activated while vehicle moving without being activated. Vehicle slid to a stop. This is a major safety issue for both the driver and other vehicles on the road as the vehicle is braking on its own and locking the rear wheels. Service parking brake light illuminated. Vehicle was brought to Jim Curley Buick GMC in Lakewood, Nj. Parking brake module was replaced at customer cost. October 2021 Same issue reoccurred. Vehicle was brought again to Jim Curley. Dealer replaced parking brake module again. Issue reoccurred while in dealer possession. Dealer is now replacing all rear calipers, rotors, and pads at customer cost. Vehicle is a major safety risk as this issue causes the vehicle to unexpectedly brake and lock the rear wheels causing the driver to lose control.

- Summary: ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS MY CARS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WILL RANDOMLY FADE IN AND OUT AND SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS MOST EVIDENT IN THE POWER STEERING, RADIO CONTROLS AND AIR CONDITIONING. I HAVE TESTED AND REPLACED BOTH THE BATTERY IN THE ALTERNATOR. I HAVE ALSO BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP SO THEY COULD RUN A DIAGNOSTICS. NOTHING CAN BE IDENTIFIED AS A CENTRAL PROBLEM, BUT THE ISSUE STILL CONTINUES. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AS I LOOSE MY POWER STEERING WHILE TURNING. THIS HAPPENS ON SHORT TRIPS AND LONG TRIPS AND MANY TIMES WHILE ON THE FREEWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS.

- Summary: 2/15/2020 AS I WAS LEAVING WORK AT 10:08A.M AS SOON AS I PULLED OUT OF PARKING LOT AND STARTED TO GO MY CAR SHUT DOWN. I WAS GOING PROBABLY 23 MPH: THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, EVERYTHING CUT OFF. THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN PARK. I WAS BLESSED TO NOT BE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND COULD COAST TO THE CURB AS I FOUGHT WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET OUT OF THE STREET. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO START IT AND IT WOULDN'T, I GOT NOTHING, THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. THE KEYS WOULDN'T COME OUT BUT I FIGURED IT OUT. HUSBAND CAME, TOOK OUT BATTERY AND TOOK IT TO GET CHECKED OUT, IT WAS 100%. I CALLED A ROADSIDE SERVICE TO HAVE IT TOWED TO CHEVY, WHERE I BOUGHT IT IN 11/2015, BUT WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS RECONNECTING THE BATTERY THE CAR CAME TO LIFE. I CALLED AND CANCELLED THE TOWI, DROVE HER HOME NO PROBLEM; HOWEVER, SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG 😕THIS CARE IS GETTING TRADED SOON NO MORE BUICKS FOR ME🙋

- Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014 Buick Verano and Chevrolet Cruze vehicles. The left and/or right-side roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflators may rupture at the inflator weld joint. This recall is an expansion of Recall 23V-674.
- Consequence: An inflator that ruptures may partially inflate the air bag and cause sharp metal fragments to enter or exit the vehicle, increasing the risk of an injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the left and/or right-side RRAB modules as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 22, 2024. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 and Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N232425640.

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Buick Verano and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu as the electronic park lock lever may allow the ignition key to be removed without the transmission being in PARK. Also, certain 2013 Buick Encore, 2011 Buick Regal, 2013-2014 Buick Verano, 2011-2016 Chevrolet Cruze, 2010-2013 Chevrolet Equinox 2013-2015 Chevrolet Malibu, and 2011-2013 GMC Terrain vehicles may have been serviced with similar defective replacement electronic park lock levers. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
- Consequence: If the key is removed without the transmission in PARK, the vehicle may rollaway as occupants are exiting, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the key cylinder lock housing, free of charge. The recall began on October 14, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick 1-800-521-7300, and GMC 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 50490 and 50491.

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Buick Encore all-wheel-drive vehicles manufactured August 23, 2012, to September 9, 2013; Verano vehicles manufactured August 8, 2012, to June 20, 2013; Chevrolet Cruze vehicles manufactured August 7, 2012, to August 16, 2013, and 2012-2014 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles manufactured May 10, 2011, to August 16, 2012 equipped with a Calix oil pan/block heater. In cold temperatures, the insulation on the engine block heater cord can become damaged, allowing the wires to be exposed.
- Consequence: Exposed wires increase the risk of electrical shock and personal injury if the cord is handled while it is plugged in.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the engine oil pan/block heater cord with a new cord that is rated for temperatures of minus 40 degree Celsius. The recall began in August 2014. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14257.

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Buick Regal, LaCrosse, Verano, and Enclave, and Chevrolet Impala, Malibu, Cruze, and Traverse, and GMC Acadia vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable adjuster may disengage from the transmission shift lever. As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect." They also fail to conform to FMVSS number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
- Consequence: If a vehicle's shift cable disengages from the transmission shift lever, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the driver may be able to shift the lever to the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any affected transmission shift cable adjusters, free of charge. The recall began on April 10, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Buick owners at 1-800-521-7300, and GMC owners at 1-800-462-8782. General Motors' number associated with this recall is 14048.

One of the best cars I have owned out of about 20 new cars! It's so quiet and has a smooth ride. The triple door gaskets and glass with a laminate sandwiched in the middle make it feel like a high-quality car. I was amazed by the build quality for a car in this price range. My sister and mother each bought one too and they love them. If Buick keeps building cars like this, they will definitely keep their customers happy!

I've had my Verano for about a month now and I'm really impressed! The ruby red color attracts a lot of attention and shows off the car's great lines. The interior finishes are fantastic and make it look like a more expensive car. The seats are very comfortable for four people and the trunk is big. The car is loaded with features and has more than enough acceleration. I'm very happy with my selection!

This is a great little car! It has enough room for two passengers and plenty of trunk space. You won't have any problems on a long drive. The seats are really comfortable and it's a solid car. It's quite impressive!

We have been driving the Verano for three years now, and my first impressions have proven to be long-lasting. Although it is a heavy vehicle with a so-so engine that drinks gas, especially in winter, the cabin heats up very quickly in the cold. The view out of the back is poor, and it's a two-wheel drive car, which can result in poor performance in winter. Unfortunately, we get five months of snow a year. One January day last year, my wife got stuck, and three separate sets of neighbors had to push the car down our street. However, on the positive side, my daughter and wife both love the Verano because its bulk makes them feel safe.

I had a new problem with my car since my last review. The Climate Control stopped blowing cold air and started pumping out high heat like the heater was on, just 3 blocks away from my dealer. I immediately pulled into the dealership and the Service Adviser and Service Manager acknowledged the issue. The Service Adviser was able to get the cold air working again, but unfortunately, it stopped working again as soon as I left the dealership. I returned and the dealer put me in a loaner and said they would call me later that day. When they did, the Service Adviser informed me that the mechanic couldn't get the Climate Control to fail, so they couldn't find anything wrong. I understand that this can be frustrating, but I hope we can work together to find a solution. I have a car with leather trim that has every convenience except for a sunroof. The exterior is a beautiful white pearl, while the interior has a two-tone taupe with wood trim, chrome, and a large Infotainment Center. The dashboard has many buttons, but it didn't take long to learn how to use them and change the settings. The car has a comfortable and quiet ride, but it may become less so with higher mileage. The heating is above average, but the air conditioning is average. The brakes and audio are some of the best features of this car. The gas mileage averages around 24 miles per gallon. The car has been fairly reliable, but there were some unusual issues, like the thermostat getting stuck and oil problems. Based on these issues and the electronics on this car, I would recommend buying a service contract.

I purchased this vehicle used with 31k miles and have since put 28k more on it. However, I must say that I am not impressed with my experience so far. The entry and exit are extremely difficult, and the front seats are quite uncomfortable. Additionally, the headrest and doorpost create a bad vision when backing out of parking. On top of that, I have had to spend $3300 on camshaft sensor, center dash unit, and complete brake replacement. Overall, my experience with this vehicle has not been satisfactory and I find myself yearning for my old PT Cruiser.

The ambient noise level coming from the doors and windows is louder than expected. However, it is important to note that luxury does not necessarily equate to complete silence. It is recommended to test the noise level at higher speeds before making a decision on purchasing or leasing a Verano. It is worth noting that the road noise may not be to everyone's liking.
