The Hyundai Veracruz (Korean: 현대 베라크루즈), also known as the Hyundai ix55 in Europe and Russia, is a mid-size crossover that was manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai from 2006 to 2015. The Veracruz was sold in the United States, Canada, South Korea, China, Morocco, South America and the Middle East.

It was also imported to Europe and parts of Asia from 2007 to 2011. The Veracruz was discontinued in other countries, except South Korea. Its name refers to the Mexican state of Veracruz; however, despite being named after the Mexican state, it was never actually sold in Mexico.

History

The official date of unveiling in South Korea was October 12, 2006, and was made available in the United States as a 2007 model. The Veracruz went on sale in March 2007, and is Hyundai's largest crossover SUV.

It replaced the truck based Terracan that was sold worldwide except for North America. The Veracruz is built on a Hyundai Santa Fe platform. The revamped 2011 Veracruz was based on the same platform as the Kia Sorento.

The Veracruz gets its name from a state in Mexico, continuing the Western theme from the small Tucson SUV and mid-size Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. Powering the Veracruz is a 3.8 L 260 hp (190 kW) V6 engine with an Aisin sourced six speed Shiftronic Automatic transmission.

In Europe, it was sold only with 3.0 L CRDI V6 diesel S-Line engine with Variable geometry turbocharger and 240 hp (180 kW). In 2008, the Veracruz was also sold in some European countries as the ix55.

  • VIN: KM8NU73C47U
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: 2007 Hyundai Veracruz AWD Limited died while young female driving in dark, winter, remote location. Towed to nearby reputable repair center. Front Valve Cover gasket & rebuilt (no new available for this old of veracrus) alternator installed and owner notified of up and coming recall not yet formalized: NHTSA # 20V705000 RECALL #197. Paperwork submitted to Hyundai along with extensive proof of work completed thru receipts and pictures. Hyundai international indicated closest Hyundai service center would have to sign off on work completed. That Hyundai dealership refused to sign off that work had been completed. Stating oil still in area. Failed to notify young female that bottom oil gasket leaking as well as other problems. Owner drove back to original repair shop that performed recall #197 work where inspection showed bottom gasket failure which was replaced...nothing to do with recall but could have caused major other failures if not identified and addressed. Since that time, female stranded again remotely when rebuilt alternator failed. Repair shop warrantied part but not labor associated with, as no new alternators are or were made available for 2007 Hyundai veracruz recall. To this day, Hyundai has failed to reimburse owner for original recall performed nearing $1000 in repair costs plus additional $500 for rebuilt alternator failure as Hyundai has failed to make new retrofit parts to complete recall #197. Hyundai international closed this case with no action on their part. Please advise

  • Summary: This is recall 197. We have been waiting since 20 October 2021 for the dealer to get the part(s) to fix this issue. We have not driven the car since. We submitted a complaint to Hyundai via telephone on October 26 2021 and they gave us a case number 18905484, saying they would get in touch with us within 5 days. No one contacted us. So we called Hyundai again on November 15 and were told a case manager would call on November 16 from a prefix of 833. On November 16 the call came in with poor reception and the person told me she did not know when the parts would be in and offered to reimburse me for up to $50.00 a day for a rental car. She told me the conversation was being recorded. I declined the rental car offer. The dealer also called on November 16 and said they still did not know when the parts would arrive. On November 18 Hyundai called and said they were still trying to find parts. That is the last I have heard from anyone.

AN INOPERATIVE CHARGINIG SYSTEM CAN RESULT IN AN ENGINE STALL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. this recall has never been addressed and it is my feeling that HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA is just letting it go without corrective actions until all of the models are off the road and they don't have to address this at all, also the problem is well understated as the oil not only gets on the alternator but the belt system that poses an even mere berater risk. if the NHTSA will monitor each safety recall to make sure owners receive safe, free, and effective remedies from manufacturers according to the Safety Act and Federal regulations, than why are they not addressing this? Although my car had 293000 miles on it it could have made another 200000 miles if HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA would have taken steps to correct this? after sending an email (will upload) they seemed to question me on the vehicle but after learning a junked the car they appear to take the stand that that owe me nothing not even the time of day, and I would like to file a formal complaint against HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA for lack effort to resolve this issue as this year alone I have gotten 5 recall notices stating no repair available?

IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.
  • Consequence: ANY OF THESE MALFUNCTIONS, ALONE OR IN COMBINATION, MAY LEAD TO A CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 29, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE HYUNDAI CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-633-5151.

Negative 2007 Hyundai Veracruz car reviews

Although the look and feel of this car is impressive, it is unfortunate that there have been some serious issues with it. In the first week, the TPMS light went on and had to be reset by the dealer. Within a month, there were quirky electrical problems such as keyless entry not working and the passenger seat heater not operating. The dealer had to remove the dash to get to the root of the problem. Recently, with only 13000 miles on the car, I had to have it towed to the dealer as the transmission seems to have failed. Despite pressing the accelerator to the floor, the car could only go 15 MPH and could not get up my slightly inclined driveway. These issues are certainly unexpected and disappointing for a new car, but I am confident that the dealer will be able to resolve them in a timely and satisfactory manner.

I purchased this vehicle in the FWD Model and not the AWD version. Unfortunately, it has not performed well in snowy conditions and I have found it to be less effective than other FWD vehicles I have owned. Additionally, I have experienced hydroplaning on the Interstate with just a little rain. I did have an issue with the driver's side window, but it was quickly resolved by the dealership. The brake rotors required some attention to eliminate shimming when the brakes were applied. Overall, I am disappointed with my purchase of this 29,000 dollar vehicle and have decided to look for something that will better meet my safety needs.

I purchased the SE AWD with entertainment package. I waited for it to come out and wasn't disappointed. Our only problem was getting it for the price we wanted to spend. We are very happy with it except for a couple of minor problems. The vehicle doesn't auto-lock doors when the vehicle is engaged, but there's not much else to complain about. We love the car and it has lots of toys.

I wasn't even considering purchasing a Hyundai SUV, but the sleek design caught my attention. After test driving it, I was pleasantly surprised by the ride and comfort. The price was reasonable, and the warranty is exceptional. It's clear that Hyundai has made great strides!

We signed on the line after feeling pressured by the dealership. However, with 13,000 miles on the car, we are starting to question our decision. Unfortunately, at 10,000 miles, my wife, who is the primary driver, got stranded and we had to return to the dealership. Initially, they thought it was the transmission, but later determined it was the throttle body. After a week in the shop, we got the car back, but we noticed that every time we slowed down for a red light, the transmission would jump and slip, and the driver's seat stopped working. We have also noticed that we are only getting around 22 mpg on a 500 mile trip and just over 1 mpg in town. Needless to say, we are not very happy with our experience so far.

After considering the Rav4 and the Santa Fe, and neither fitting within my budget ($23k out the door), I looked into used Highlanders and Veracruzes. I found some 2007 models with all the perks (premium packages - leather, etc.), everything but the DVD player or navigation systems. This Veracruz is the most comfortable car ever! It's soft on the road, and powerful when needed. Although the gas mileage is not the best (15city/22highway), it's still acceptable. The seats are super comfortable, and the interior space is great! Even the 3rd row is not bad, and I've sat back there (I'm 6'0). Everyone who's ridden in it loves it, and I think I'm a future Hyundai owner for life! The price was sweet at $22,300 (walkout) with 29k miles.

  5. Gunner Dickinson 2024-07-16

The Pilot doesn't stand a chance against this fully loaded SE. The Logic 7 audio is just as good as Bose, and my friends have even mistaken it for a Lexus RX, especially after riding in it. The interior is dead silent, the 2nd row is very comfortable, and the 3rd row is not bad either. The gas mileage is not too shabby, and the transmission shifts like a dream. It's definitely a great value for the money. While navigation is not an option, I personally believe that if you don't know where you're going, you shouldn't be driving. If you must, a portable navigation system is cheaper and makes more sense. If you're shopping in this class, you're shortchanging yourself if you don't take it for a spin. Don't let the badge fool you!
