Daewoo Leganza 2000 problems
The Daewoo Leganza is an executive car (E-segment), sometimes classified as luxury large family car (D-segment), that was manufactured and marketed by the automobile manufacturer Daewoo. The Leganza was available as a front engine, front-wheel drive, four door, five passenger limousine in South Korea over a single generation for model years 1997-2002 and internally designated as the V100.
The Leganza replaced mid-size luxury car Daewoo Prince and was succeeded by the Daewoo Magnus (V200) using a new version of the Leganza's platform. The name Leganza was a portmanteau of the Italian words elegante (elegant) and forza (power).
Development
The Leganza (V100), along with Lanos (T100) and Nubira (J100) were central to Daewoo's effort to develop a proprietary range to replace vehicles previously licensed from GM.
Daewoo turned to global consultants and suppliers in developing the three new lines. Under design direction of ex-Porsche and ex BMW engineering chief Dr. Ulrich Bez, the Leganza was developed in just 30 months, using Daewoo's growing in-house R&D network in Korea, Worthing and Munich along with other global consultants. Transmissions were provided by ZF and engines were sourced from GM Australia.
The Leganza was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign, using the themes developed for Giugiaro's 1990 Jaguar Kensington concept, which also heavily influenced the 1991 Toyota Aristo (sold as the first generation Lexus GS outside of Japan). Styling was also compared to the Maserati Coupé, another of Giugiaro's designs. Bodywork achieved a Cd of 0.32 Cd.
Development of the Leganza began at the end of 1993, after work began on the Lanos and the Nubira, delaying the Leganza introduction in some markets. After initial research of the Leganza leading to development of a mid-size executive car, further work on the V100 (prototype name) began. Styling took three months, the summer of 1994, aided by ItalDesign's offices in Kensington. Road tests began in May 1995, ended exactly a year later, and the Leganza was ready for production in February 1997.

Common Daewoo Leganza 2000 problems
The Daewoo Leganza, produced from 1999 to 2004, faced several common issues reported by owners:
- EGR Valve Blockage: The EGR valves in the Leganza were susceptible to blockages from carbon buildup. Symptoms included hesitation, lack of power during acceleration, poor idling, and surging. Cleaning the EGR valve with a toothbrush and carb cleaner was recommended to address these issues.
- ABS Warning Light: If the ABS warning light appeared on the dashboard, it was likely due to a cracked ABS reluctor ring, potentially damaging the ABS sensor. Identifying the affected wheel through a diagnostic check and replacing the ABS reluctor ring and sensor if damaged was the solution.
These issues highlight some of the common mechanical challenges faced by Daewoo Leganza owners, emphasizing the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to warning signs to ensure the vehicle's optimal performance and safety.

Why did Daewoo fail?
Daewoo Group ran into deep financial trouble in 1998 due to the 1997 Asian financial crisis, increasingly precarious relationships with the Korean government under President Kim Dae-jung, and its own poor financial management.
What size engine is in the Daewoo Leganza?
The Leganza was powered by Holden-sourced D-TEC DOHC 16V I4 engines (two displacements were made using the same block and bore, differing in stroke): 2.0 L (1998 cc) – 131 hp (98 kW; 133 PS) at 5,400 rpm, 185 N⋅m (136 lb⋅ft) at 4,600 rpm of torque – used in models sold in Europe.

I've had this car for almost three years with very minimal problems. Although I am facing the drawback of resale after paying $16k in January 2000, I would still recommend it! The car has a quality CD sound system, comfortable leather seats, and good handling on snow. While the fuel injectors can be a bit sensitive and cause the engine light to come on, it's nothing to worry about. I would suggest adding a bottle of injector cleaner to your fuel tank every couple of months. Additionally, my local Toyota (formerly Daewoo and Toyota) dealer assures me that service will not be a problem even with the discontinuance of the Daewoo line. Overall, I highly recommend this car if you can find one used for around $5000 or so!
-
Best car you ever owned! It's a shame Daewoo is no longer in the US. If given time, this car maker would have surely outdone all imports.

Hi there! I've been driving my Black Leganza CDX for 2.5 years now and I must say, it's been a fantastic car for the price. If you're looking to save some money upfront compared to other brands like Toyota, then this car is definitely worth considering. Plus, the custom Konig wheels give it a really cool look! The only minor issue I've experienced is some occasional buzzing from the equalizer when starting the car, which can be a bit frustrating. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase!
-
I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my new vehicle that I purchased for $16500. While I was initially excited about it, I failed to consider the resale value. Last week, when I went to trade it in, I was disappointed to find out that one dealership offered me only $2300 and another said they could squeeze $5300 (with $600 of that being because of the leather). Despite my car being clean, shining, and beautiful, it was worth nothing. I was shocked by this realization!

This car is great for passengers, with lots of room in the backseat and plenty of trunk space. The stock stereo speaker system is decent and it has a lot of get-up-and-go, making it feel like it wants to go faster! Although there are some minor issues, such as the malfunction indicator light malfunctioning, the Daewoo Leganza is unbeatable for the price! We do a lot of driving between Bellingham, WA and Seattle, WA, and this car has held up beautifully.

I bought my Laganza used and fell in love with its style (I even mistook it for a Lexus at first!). When I sat in the car, I was pleasantly surprised by the ample leg room, which sealed the deal for me. Although I had to replace the sensor light twice, it was covered under warranty, and otherwise, the car has been very reliable and dependable. I find everything under the hood easy to locate. While the car's get up and go is okay, I would prefer more power when the A/C is on. The gas mileage is fair. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

I've driven my Daewoo a lot and, overall, it's been a good car. Unfortunately, the company is in trouble, which is a shame because I believe these cars are better than those made by other Korean car makers. The handling can be a bit sloppy for its type of suspension, but that's a minor issue in the grand scheme of things.

Hi there! We've had the car for 2 years and unfortunately, we've had quite a few problems. These include odometer issues, cruise control problems, engine running hard, bad brakes, and various cosmetic issues on the interior.
